Look at the stars, they shine for you

Sprite was on one of her story-telling sprees again. She’d already told three stories in a row now, her tiredness showing only slightly. Kingo only knew because he was used to her hiding it from him. Him and every other eternal.

He knew she loved the attention – not so different than him – and as long as she was comfortable with it, he found no reason to interfere. That was if Sprite didn’t continue to push herself. When he had asked her to stop, she had covered her fatigue behind her cheeky words and sharp wit. But he had nagged her enough that she had promised that this would be her last tale today.

So, he continued his watch while Sprite carried on with her story. Her illusions painted quite an enchanting picture on the night sky. Even if she didn’t realize it herself, her power was quite amazing. Proven by the many entranced humans surrounding her.

Once her story reached its end, the crowd slowly dispersed. Laughter followed the people who were going back to their homes or to continue mingling with one another. Pushing off the wall he was leaning on, he walked towards the ginger-haired eternal. She sat cross-legged on the ground, staring up at the deep night sky. He wasn’t sure if she was sitting because she wanted to or if it was because she didn’t have the strength to stand. He hoped it was the former.

He joined her on the ground. “What are you looking at?” He asked softly.

She only just seemed to notice him. “Why are you still here?”

Just like her to snap first and think later. “Making sure you keep your promise,” she snorted “-and,” he continued “also because I wanted to see you tell your story.”

Silence.

“It was amazing,” he added, “as always.”

“Are you being sarcastic?”

“Surprisingly? No, I’m not.”

She encircled her knees and rested her chin on them. “Thanks.” He heard her mumble. He didn’t ask her to repeat it because hearing her say that was a rare occurrence in itself.

Taking a chance, he reached up and patted her head. He swiftly moved away when Sprite reached up to swat at him.

He chuckled. “You're welcome.”
