Chapter 4
The following day the bunch of mutants decided to go on a picnic. Not a real one though, at least Illyana thought so. Picnics are supposed to be at an amazing venue right?
They decided to have a picnic on the school grounds. Whatever. The five of them got the food ready, put it in a basket (Why you ask, when they only had to walk like ten steps or so? Illyana just didn't question it anymore) and walked through the corridors of the school, heading outside. There was this massive tree, a bit out of sight, it was the perfect place to hold a picnic.
When they got to the door Dani's name was being called, they turned around to see who it was. It was Illy's least favourite person ever, The Professor.
"Dani" He started "Could I have a word?" The Chayenne agreed and told the group she would catch up. She saw The Russian look at her, worried. The others had already headed outside, leaving the two to have their privacy. "Be careful" The Blonde warned her "I still don't fully trust him." (Understatement of the year but okay)
"Don't worry, Ill be fine" The Chayenne reassured her "And besides, if he tries to pull something I'll just do the same as last night." She gave her girlfriend a quick kiss on the lips and left.
Illyana watched the pair as they walked away, when they were out of sight she went after her friends (Family?) who were already quite a distance away. "Hey guys, wait up" She said as she ran towards them. "Why'd you leave?"
"Well, we figured you and Dani wanted a moment alone so.." Sam explained.
"It's basically a nice way of saying that we don't always want to see you two kissing. Don't get me wrong, it's cute. But sometimes we don't want to witness all the relationship stuff." Berto commented, Sam hit him. "Ow dude, why hit me when I only speak facts"
The Russian was embarrassed by Berto's comment and hid her face, trying to stop the blushing. "Ahw you guys, stop it. You made her feel shy" Rahne said as she hugged Illy. In that moment The Blonde was very grateful to have her.
Don't get her wrong, she loved all of them to death but sometimes the guys just teased her so much. She, of course, always got them back but not this time. She was too flustered. They got lucky... this time.
In that way they really were her family though. Berto and Sam felt like brothers to her and Rahne, well... before this whole adventure they didn't really talk much but now she sees her as her sister. Always there to protect her from anything, even the boys.
They settled down near the tree and relaxed a bit. Sometime later Berto had this weird idea to go frisbeeing and of course Rahne, how much she defends herself that she isn't a dog or a wolf or whatever, was still super excited to join him. So those two got busy doing that, leaving Sam and Illyana with each others company.
They honestly didn't mind, they were having a conversation anyway.
"You know, I really think this could be the place for us" He said "With a little time, I think so too." Illy agreed, she continued "This place feels good I think? Even though there are so many people, I really like it here."
"That's what we want right? To feel home" Sam smiled, but it was more like a fatherly smile. Illy laughed at him.
"What?" He asked confused.
"Your smile" She said "It feel like you're my dad or something."
"I'm truly offended" The older said playfully. "But seriously. I'm glad you're happy, with Dani and with us"
"Are you flirting with my girlfriend again? Guess I'll need to step up my game then" A voice said behind the pair. The two of them watched as Dani came walking into view, smirking.
"Nah, isn't worth the effort. He's doing a poor job. Plus, no one can beat you anyway"
"Ouch, thought we were friends Rasputin" Sam commented. "Oh, using my last name now? I must have hit a nerve"
"Your last name is Rasputin?" An unknown voice said, turns out it was Raven. "Rasputin, as in the guy who-" She was cut off by Illyana. "Like the holy man who destroyed the Russian empire, yes I know. Ironic isn't it? With me being Russian and all"
"Well, it's interesting for sure. I've heard a lot of names and surnames but this is a first. So as I said before, certainly interesting. But anyway, I came here to say that we're all ready for training. You know, find out what your powers are and how to use them etc." Raven mentioned.
"Great, let us pack up and we'll be right there." Dani countered. Raven left after that, satisfied with the answer she was given.
Sam went to grab the other two from their ridiculous game of frisbee and it actually took him quite a while, as they were too caught up in their game to notice the poor guy. But once they did they were quick to break things off and join the others.
In the time Sam was trying to grab the attention of the other two goofballs, Illy and Dani started to pack up. The Chayenne asked her if she would show her 'extra' power when in training. The Blonde looked at her, conflicted, and decided to respond with "I honestly don't know, I mean it's a power for sure but I don't really like to use it. It only reminds me of all the pain I had to go through to get it, not even wanting it in the first place."
"I understand, if you don't want to then don't. But I d need to ask you to use it one more time, to let you show me all your memories. I want to understand you in all ways possible, and I want to be there for you. I think the memories will help me understand better." Dani said carefully, not wanting to potentially upset Illy.
The Russian was so touched, this girl was just unreal. How did she deserve her? She kissed her, but was soon cut off.
"Ehw, quit it you two" The pair heard and saw that Berto was doing the fake gag thing again. They laughed and Illyana playfully rolled her eyes. "Well tell me then, how should I otherwise make it clear that she's awesome huh?"
"You could just tell her" Berto responded.
"And this is exactly why you score no girls Berto" Rahne commented. "Hey," He defended "Don't start attacking me now. It's not like I'm into girls anyway"
"Fine, let me change my comment. This is exactly why you score no 'boys' Berto" Rahne mocked, but she gave him a hug. He returned the hug immediately though, he was a hugger after all.
After that fiasco the five of them started to head back to the school. Excited to know what 'training' actually contained for them.
