Ultimate Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Chapter 5: Ok, We were minding our own business
Luck
What a strange, intangible concept to fully quantify or even begin to understand.
How do you explain the concept of being the Ultimate Lucky Student?
That's the conundrum of a life that is Nagito Komaeda, one of the newest students to Hope's Peak Academy.
If one were to ask the boy how he feels about coming to a school meant to cultivate and enhance talent, he would go on a glazed speech of absolute devotion towards the prospect of just being in the presence of those with Ultimate Talent. He'd also make sure to couple this with the unadulterated loathing he holds for himself, viewing his existence to be unworthy of being in the presence of those he has come to label as "the chosen".
Still, he wasn't about to let his time at Hope's Peak Academy be wasteful.
Nagito promised that he would do anything and everything in his power to make sure that he would assist the Ultimates of his class to attain greater heights than before.
And he knew he had his work cut out for him as the class of Ultimates he had been placed with are nothing short of extraordinary.
All of them were already well known, having achieved a high degree of fame and notoriety both in their fields of expertise and beyond.
To be placed within the same class as them was beyond Nagito's wildest dreams. It was truly as if the world was finally showing him a measure of genuine kindness. Or maybe it was his luck.
Or both.
Though he secretly prayed that his luck wouldn't turn this around into misfortune. That's the last thing he wanted to happen.
His luck was something that was a blessing just as much as it was a foul curse. People always have the presumption that if you have luck that it would always equate to the good side of it. But bad luck lurks around every corner in life and it can end everything one holds dear in a matter of seconds.
That was how Nagito ended up without parents.
Since that day, he positively abhorred both his luck and himself. Who was he to survive whilst his parents died in front of him like that? How was that fair?
How can that even be considered Luck of any kind?
It was just… it was just cruel.
When it comes to self-loathing, no one does it better than Nagito Komaeda.
Which is why he was all smiles right now at being in the presence of not one but three Ultimates at this very moment. Granted, they were to be his classmates and there were fifteen of them in total but for once Nagito found himself thanking his luck for this truly blessed day.
He was exploring the very school where Hope was grown and meant to flourish and he wasn't alone in that regard.
With him were three of his classmates, three individuals that had been chosen by destiny to inspire Hope across the World and bring it forward into a new, brighter future.
One was a figure, slumped over in defeat at not being able to be in the same group as a certain princess from a far-off country.
The other two couldn't be much more of an opposite duo yet somehow, in a bizarre way, Nagito was able to recognize an unusual kinship forming between Mioda Ibuki and Saionji Hiyoko. Ibuki's over-the-top personality and bombastic eccentricities clashed with Hiyoko's overall snobbish haughtiness. Yet it was in that there seemed to be a bond appearing.
The carefree, unfazed personality of the rockstar seemed to be completely immune to whatever mean-spirited or snide remarks the kimono-garbed dancer that she sent in her direction. It was subtle, almost unnoticeable to most everyone.
But to someone as observant as Nagito, he was able to pick up the comfortable air Hiyoko began exuding with the outgoing Ibuki.
The same couldn't be said for poor Soda who was on the receiving end of some soul-cutting comments sent his way from the traditional dancer.
Calling him stuff like a grease monkey, loosely bolted, depressingly pathetic and a dumpster loser can drive one's spirit down quite considerably. It appears the bravado and confident persona Kazuichi tried to portray in their initial introductions had quickly fallen to pieces.
Hiyoko can be ruthless it seems.
Thinking on the introductions back in the gymnasium, Nagito's mind was once again awhirl with awe and wonder at the fact that he was here. Once again he was consumed by the feeling of overwhelming gratefulness that someone as scummy as he was had been granted the privilege, the gift of being in the presence of the future Hopes of mankind.
It was almost too much for the pale young teen.
But in the midst of his erratic and "hope" filled thoughts, his mind settled upon an odd outlier to them all.
Nagito was someone who worshiped the idea of Hope and the perceived Ultimates that were meant to represent them. In that, he always went out of his way to research and observe up-and-coming individuals that garnered the title of Ultimate from whatever talent they excelled at because they would undoubtedly make their way to Hope's Peak Academy.
So it was a surprise to be sure to be meeting an Ultimate that he had never heard of before. And not just any ordinary Ultimate.
The Ultimate Superhero.
That was the talent of one Peter Parker.
Someone Nagito had never heard of.
Of a talent that should no less basically scream attention and popularity.
A teenager who apparently is a superhero is something that Nagito feels should be more common knowledge.
Hell, most Ultimates are treated as such due to their almost supernatural and superhuman abilities that come from their talents. So for Nagito to have never even heard nor hair or rumor about this newcomer…
Something felt really off about it all.
Not that Nagito got a bad vibe from Parker, far from it actually. He saw that this American was something special, especially for his talent.
It's just the circumstance of his arrival coupled with the limited or really lack of knowledge surrounding him that's bothering the lucky student. How could he or really, any of his new classmates have not heard of him?
The only one who appears to hold some awareness about Peter was Mikan and the teacher who scouted all of them into the school.
So this was a fascinating development as a whole and a mystery to be solved.
"Hey, what was that?" Soda abruptly asked, snapping Nagito out of his thoughts.
"What was what?" Hiyoko inquired, annoyed just because it was the mechanic who spoke.
Kazuichi looked unsure of himself as he pointed out a nearby window towards the city. "That."
Nagito, Hiyoko and Ibuki all turned in the direction Soda had pointed to and their eyes all widened at the sight of smoke coming from somewhere deep within the city.
"What the- what's going on out there?" The kimono garbed girl said in shock.
Nobody was able to answer as what sounded like an explosion going off in the distance prevented them from doing so.
"It looks like an attack." Komaeda mused aloud, rubbing his chin in thought.
"Huh? What're they doing?" Ibuki remarked, causing her classmates to turn their heads towards what had captured the musician's attention.
Down below on the academy grounds, the quartet saw seven students running towards the city. Seven of whom they recognized as their fellow classmates of class 77B.
"What?!" Soda exclaimed. "Miss Sonia?! Why is she running towards the city like that?"
"Why are all of them running there?" Hiyoko stated the real question that needed to be asked.
"What are you guys all yelling about?" Asked another female voice.
The four turned to see another group of four composed of the rest of 77b.
Peko, Akane, Teruteru and Ryota all stood before them. Well… three of them.
The Ultimate Cook was being dragged by the Ultimate Gymnast who had a well-cooked meat stick in one hand whilst the other was holding the poor chef's ankle.
"Uh…" Soda looked down at the stout young student with a hesitant expression. "What happened to him?"
"We asked you guys first." Akane said through stuffed cheeks. "What-"
"What's that?" Ryota inquired, spotting the smoke coming from the city out of the corner of his eye, making his companions all look towards it as well.
"What the hell?" The busty gymnast said aloud, gulping down her food. "What's goin' on out there?"
"That's what we were wondering earlier, ya bimbo." Saionji snidely said though it appeared the wild-haired girl was unaffected by the insult.
"There's somethin' brewin in the city." Ibuki excitedly said. "The rest of our classmates went off in that direction. Ibuki is super curious."
"The rest of our class?" Peko parroted in uncertainty.
"Yeah, everyone." Kazuichi stated. "Well… everyone but that Parker guy. I didn't see him anywhere."
What everyone failed to notice was the brief moment of the Ultimate Swordsman becoming still as stone upon hearing that her charge Fuyuhiko had gone into the city where there was a clear and present danger of some kind going on right now.
"Well then what are we waiting for?" Ibuki jovially asked, jumping into the air and somehow staying there for a few seconds longer than physically possible. "Ibuki smells an adventure! And an adventure can give the inspiration Ibuki needs for her next song!"
The musician dashed off, leaving her seven classmates in a bewildered state until there was a jolt of movement and they all ran to catch up with her.
-Scene Cut-
"What the hell happened?" Kazuichi asked in total shock and astonishment as he and the rest of the class of 77b now found themselves in the city, standing before what could only be described as the aftermath of a warzone.
Destroyed lampposts, cracks and craters all over the roads and pavement, crumbled building walls and smashed-up cars littered the area. Paramedics, firefighters, police and more first responders were busy with cleanup and helping any and all civilians who had been unlucky enough to be caught up in whatever it was that happened here.
"Truly a strange spectacle." Teruteru mused aloud, rubbing his chin in thought, frowning at the sight of injured people getting wheeled away on stretchers into ambulances.
"Was there a shootout here?" Ryota inquired a tad bit nervously.
"I am not so certain of that." Peko Pekoyama remarked. "There are claw marks and other strange shapes that I don't believe match any bullet type or bomb."
"And how can you be sure?" Hiyoko asked in a slightly accusing fashion.
The swordsman simply closed her eyes, arms crossed. "One sees much in what I am involved in."
"Jeez, did ya have to make it sound so ominous?" Kazuichi complained while nervously rubbing his head.
"Still, this is concerning." Ryota spoke up again. "What could have caused all this?"
"A serious throwdown, that's what." Akane emphatically declared, smacking her hand into her fist.
"But what kind are we talking here?" Hiyoko asked, squirming slightly at the sight of a young girl who was uninjured but unconscious as she was carried away by a paramedic.
Of the group, Nagito was silent in all this as he took in the environment, running through a number of possible ideas and scenarios that may explain just what had happened here.
"Ibuki is really confused." The eccentric and outgoing musician stated, eyes darting about the place until she spotted something familiar. "But Ibuki figures who may know what happened here."
The group regarded her for a moment before looking ahead to what she was now pointing at. Or rather who she was pointing at.
It was the rest of their classmates all huddled around an ambulance.
"What the-?" Soda blinked at the sight of them. "What the hell are they doing here?"
"They went here, remember?" Nagito pointed out.
"Let's go and ask what happened here." Peko stoically said, walking ahead of the group she was a part of.
Ibuki pranced after the swordsman with the rest following suit a second later.
"Hey you guys!" The eccentric musician boisterously greeted, announcing the arrival of the other half of Class 77b.
"Everyone?" Mahiru spoke up in surprise. "What are you guys doing here?"
"That's a question we should be asking all of you." Hiyoko shot back. "What in the world happened here?"
"It looks like a damn warzone." Akane pointed out, looking about with a curious gaze.
"That's one way of putting it." Fuyuhiko said with a grunt from a stretcher he was laid out upon.
Peko's eyes widened, jaw locking and body becoming rigid at the sight of the Yakuza heir being bandaged and tended to by Mikan. Kuzuryu saw this of course and with a single look at the swordswoman, got her to back down, albeit with great hesitation.
"Oh dear." Teruteru rubbed his chin again, clearly troubled at the sight of Gundham, Nekomaru and Fuyuhiko all appearing to share injuries. "The better question would be is what happened to our new classmates. It seems you are all seriously hurt."
The newly arrived eight students took note of the trio of injured boys, some wincing at the state they were in.
"We received these injuries due to our foolhardy attempts at assisting the hero." Tanaka exclaimed though regretted it immediately as he felt as though he nearly pulled his arm.
The hit he received did more damage than just to his abdomen. His right shoulder, arm and back also sustained injuries that were covered in bandages courtesy of Mikan. They were healing thanks in no small part to the talented nurse but dammit if it didn't still hurt.
"Yeah, we got a first-hand account of our classmates' talent." Nekomaru muttered, forcing himself to stand up despite Mikan fretting over him not to.
"Huh?" Was the collective response of the newly arrived students.
"Peter." Mahiru clarified. "There were screams and explosions going on in the city and he went in to figure out what was happening."
"Then those two strangers with the claws and Rhinoceros suits attacked him." Chiaki remarked.
"Ah man, you're telling me I missed a fight?" Akane indignantly asked.
"No, Akane." The Ultimate Team Manager's words were stern and fierce. "This was not a fight that you should ever have considered involving yourself in. This was Parker's domain, not ours. You would have just gotten in the way like the rest of us."
Well, that wasn't troubling to hear.
All the while, something out of the corner of the eye caught the attention of the Ultimate Mechanic. It took him a moment to register what it was he was looking at. And by doing that, Kazuichi had no clue as to who or even what he was looking at.
"What the fuck is that?!" Soda cried out, watching as the gargantuan hulking from a grayish silver individual being loaded into a heavily armored crate linked to a truck.
Several of the other students who had not seen the behemoth fighting Peter had their jaws drop at the sight of him.
"Whoa~~~~!" Was Ibuki's reaction.
Peko's posture became tense and eyes sharp as she saw the ways the rest of her classmates that did see this man in action gazed at him nervously.
Nagito was wary as he was thoroughly put off and confused. Just what had happened here so suddenly?
Being the unusual teen that he was, his mind began to take him places to explain just what in the world transpired here.
Teruteru, all the while, mirrored Soda's reaction whilst Ryota and Hiyoko were unsure if they should be so close despite their being a reasonable distance from the unconscious super villain.
"What the hell is that?!" Akane exclaimed, eyes wide in awe and disbelief. "He looks strong as hell!"
"Rhino." Peter said with a grunt, hand over his shoulder. "And yeah, he is damn strong. Some kook who knows me apparently."
"And so does that crazy fucker over there." Fuyuhiko stated, pointing directly at the man who had multiple limbs and was still being held in place by his own mechanical claws.
"And who is that supposed to be?" Peko inquired, a wary eye directed at the man who was grumbling to himself whilst stewing in his own defeat.
"We never got his name." Sonia murmured.
"Sure got a good idea of who that bastard is." The Ultimate Gangster remarked, hands over his stomach again.
"They are all emissaries of the voids beyond our understanding and realities." Gundham dramatically declared.
"He's talkin' batshit but hell, I'm inclined to agree." Fuyuhiko grumbled.
As the classmates conversed with each other, Peter approached the multi-limbed man without his mask on. The man had stopped struggling by this point, only gazing intently at the teen hero who was wary with his approach.
"Can you talk normally now, please?" Peter asked tentatively.
"That depends." The man snidely said in return. "Can you explain to me what the hell is going on?"
"I was about to ask you the same thing." Parker shot back, hands on his hips. He mulled over how to speak with this man as candidly as possible or maybe he should be blunt…
Let's go with the blunt route.
"Ok, first of all, who even are you?" He questioned. "And how do you know my name?"
"How are you Spider-man?" The man shot back.
"Cause I am Spider-man."
"Not the one I know." He said in a low voice.
"The one you know?" Peter felt the hairs on the back of his head stand up. "Wait a minute… are you… you can't be…"
The multi-limbed man looked at Peter irritably. "What? What are you saying boy, speak up."
"You know a Spider-man, yeah?"
The man nodded slowly, unsure as to what the web head was asking. "Yes."
"And do I look like him?"
"No." Was the immediate response.
"Um… what…" Peter began pacing about in front of him, his mind beginning to go crazy. "Oh my God, I wasn't the only one. Oh my God, Oh my God, Oh my-"
"Will you please just stop for a second." The man shouted, breaking Peter out of his dazed thought process. "Will you tell me what is going on already? And release me from this humiliation!"
Spider-man eyed the man, looking down at the tentacles he was still in control of thanks to his suit that were wrapped around their owner.
He mentally commanded the tentacles to unfurl themselves off from the man but moved to firmly plant themselves on the ground as to prevent him from moving forward.
"This doesn't make it any better."
"Well, least you're not tied up anymore."
"Is that supposed to make me feel better?" He rhetorically asked.
The teen hero paused for a moment until he exploded. "Who even are you?! Can you tell me your name already?!"
That seemed to be enough of a shock for ire the shaded man had, shaking his head to rid himself of his surprise.
"Doctor Otto Octavius."
"Doctor Otto Oct… wait, what? Like… like…" Peter looked at the four mechanical limbs, playing the last name of the now identified man in his head repeatedly. "Wait like… like an Octopus? Doctor Octopus?" Peter then snorted. "Doc Ock?"
Otto rolled his eyes, throwing his arms up slightly. "My God."
Peter's eyes widened, a grin worming its way onto his face.
"No way, are you serious?!" Peter had to restrain himself from laughing in disbelief at his guess. "Is that legit, your name?"
Otto only snarled defiantly. "Not one I chose for myself mind you."
"But you're not denying it."
"I had more pressing matters to deal with." Octavius retorted.
Before Parker was able to ask what it was he was doing before their encounter, a familiar, gangster-like voice from the side called out to him.
"Oi, Peter."
The webhead and Octohead turned their heads to the sight of the fifteen students of class 77b now standing before him.
"Can ya explain to us just who this bastard is?" Fuyuhiko asked, openly glaring at Octavius, the man regarding the class with a more analytical eye.
"Uh, yeah he said he's Otto Octavius and… that's it." Peter lamely said.
"That's it?" Nidai parroted in disbelief. "That's all you got out of him?"
"It's really, really difficult to explain." The superhero explained. "Like… I don't even know where to start."
"Start from the beginning." Sonia suggested but Peter shook his head in response.
"That won't even work cause I just don't know where to begin." He stressed out, feeling a headache coming on from all this.
"Foolish hero." Gundham explained. "All things have a point of origin from which they come. As one of great power, it is within your capabilities to uncover that which we seek."
Both Otto and Peter could only stare at the eccentric teen with the hamsters on his shoulders and arms, posing dramatically and they swore they heard lightning in the background.
"Who even is this kook supposed to be?" Fuyuhiko questioned, still holding an intense glare at the multi-limbed villain. "He seemed to know your name."
"I thought it was someone I did know." Octavius spoke up, eyeing Peter suspiciously. "But he isn't Peter Parker." Before said individual could interject, Otto went on. "At least… not the one that I am familiar with."
"What's that supposed to mean?" Soda, voicing the question the entire class shared.
"It means… that things just got way more complicated." Peter answered, hand running through his hair, a conflicted look on his face for all to see.
"That doesn't help, Parker." Mahiru admonished, hands on her hips with a stern look on her face.
"Sorry." He earnestly said, eyeing Doc Ock once more, locking eyes with the man.
The pair fell into silence, a tense aura being generated between them, something that was felt by the rest of the class.
"Ah~" Chiaki perked up. "You're both doing it again."
Spider-man blinked, the hero looking at her in confusion.
"Doing what again?"
"That weird staredown that's like when two characters in a video game square off before the fight." The Gamer girl elaborated.
"That is enough violence for today." Sonia proclaimed, commanding authority. "Enough destruction has been caused and I do not wish to see my new classmates be placed in further harm's way."
"I agree with Sonia." Mikan spoke up, her hands interlaced together as though she were praying. "Please Peter, you mustn't fight anymore."
"That's for him to decide." Parker shot back, almost sounding petulant as he pointed at Doc Ock who scoffed at the gesture.
"I do not need to fight you boy." Octavius sneered. "Lest you give me further reason to do so."
"That's enough out of you." Mahiru said aloud, surprising the multi-armed villain by her audacity. "I wanted this to be a fresh new start at Hope's Peak but you and that Rhino guy up and ruined it and you ended up attacking my new classmates."
"You think I care for such frivolous matters?" He said, eyeing the students with an analytical eye.
Before anyone else could say or do anything more, several black SUVs pulled up to their location. Men in black suits stepped out with none other than Tengan leading them all.
"Mr. Tengan." Peter said in surprise, the elder gentlemen ignoring the young New Yorker, surveying the area first. He stared intently at Otto Octavius, the man returning his gaze with both men entering into a silent stare-off just like Peter had with Doc Ock earlier.
Eventually, Tengan sighed, turning to Peter with a wry look on his face.
"My word Parker, you certainly know how to leave a first impression." Tengan lightly "scolded", shaking his head. "Property damage on your first day?"
Peter jolted back at the words, wincing as he looked away only to flinch even more at the sight of the said destruction the former headmaster of Hope's Peak pointed out.
"It's not like I wanted to do all that." He nearly whined. "Doc Ock here and that Rhino guy came here and nearly skewered me. Several attempts at least."
Tengan huffed, breaking down into an open chuckle where he simply shook his head, going over to the young teen and patting his back.
"There, there." He said. "No need to get yourself worked up on something out of your control. I'm fairly certain that destruction wasn't on the MO for your orientation today."
"It wasn't." The Queens native was quick to agree with him. "It really wasn't."
Tengan only chuckled softly, directing his attention to the rest of the students silently observing them.
"Ah, Class 77b." Tengan cordially greeted. "Apologies on behalf of Hope's Peak. I'm fairly certain that this wasn't what you envisioned your first day at your new school to be."
It took a moment for him but Komaeda Nagito gasped in wonder and astonishment, eyes like stars as he soon recognized the elder in front of them.
"You're Kazuo Tengan! The former headmaster of Hope's Peak Academy!"
"Ah, so you've done your homework it seems." Tengan said pleasantly enough. "Much as I imagine you have a litany of questions, I'll have to ask you to hold off on them. I have much I need to discuss with young Mr. Parker. If you would like, these cars can take you all back to Hope's Peak where you can get some much-needed reprieve from today's excitement."
The older gentleman was quick to see the hesitation shared amongst the class, especially those that were present for the entirety of what had transpired here.
"Ah," The reserved and quiet Gamer spoke up, a respectful bow directed at Kazuo. "If it would not be much, we would like to wait for our classmate until you are done with him."
Rather than deny her request, Tengan smiled softly and nodded.
"You're free to do so." He said. "Now, if you'll excuse me."
He placed a hand on Peter's back, guiding him away from his new classmates, the young teen briefly looking back at them, seeing several convey confusion and concern. Doc Ock was left where he was as he wasn't able to really go anywhere so long as Peter's suit retained control of his arms. The villain was quick to be surrounded by the men in black suits that had accompanied Tengan whilst the rest of the class of 77b were at a bit of a loss as to what to do.
"Well…" Soda was scratching his cheek, feeling an awkward air come over the group. "Now what do we do?"
The answer came from the Ultimate Swordsman.
"I believe a proper recounting of what transpired here would suffice for time to kill."
Those who were not here for the fight all murmured and nodded their heads in agreement.
Mahiru sighed, holding up her camera. "Well, maybe we should find a place to sit down for a moment because it's a bit of a long… well, in between really-"
"So medium."
"Yeah, medium-based story. With pictures."
"How'd you manage to get pictures?"
"..."
"Oh, right. Yeah, forgot for a sec."
Over with Peter and Tengan, the former felt a nervous sensation come over him and it was not hard to understand why. The look he was getting from the latter made him squirm a bit as Kazuo's eyes looked like they could pierce his soul if they could.
"First of all," The older man spoke up, surprising Peter with a comforting hand on his shoulder. "Are you alright, Peter? I saw what was happening while on my way here. You took a lot of nasty hits. Are there any injuries you need to be checked over?"
Peter blinked for a moment before smiling appreciatively at the concern.
"I'm fine, Mr. Tengan." Peter assured. "Any injuries I got, Mikan already got handled."
The former headmaster appeared unconvinced, eyes trailing over to the boy's shoulder.
"Are you certain?" Tengan said, looking directly at the spot where the Rhino stabbed his horn into before Peter was able to stop him.
Parker looked at Kazuo then the injury beneath his suit a few times, sagging his shoulders a moment later.
"You saw that?"
"The entire fight was being broadcast from multiple stations if you were unaware." Tengan revealed. "That and being the former Headmaster of Hope's Peak Academy gives one leeway and few privileges, such as security footage from all available angles. That oversized brute could have killed you."
Peter chuckled slightly. "Ah come on, Mr. Tengan. It's not the worst I've had."
All he received was a flat look in response. "That does next to nothing to assuage my concerns for you, my boy. You've only increased them."
The teen could only nervously laugh now, wincing at his own choice of words.
"Sorry."
Tengan eyed the boy for a few seconds, exhaling a moment later with a shake of his head.
"I've seen and done much in my lifetime, Peter." Tengan softly said. "But what had just transpired, what I have seen blows anything and everything out of the water. The others seem rattled, shaken even but it appears you are completely unperturbed."
"Well…" Peter was rubbing the back of his head now. "Not entirely-"
"I have never seen individuals like the ones you had fought, Mr. Parker." Tengan's tone became far more stern. "I do not wish to come on as forceful or make you uncomfortable but Peter, you must explain, just what in the world was all that? What is going on? Who are those two that attacked you and why do they seem to know you?"
"Wait how did you-"
"I have my ways and sometimes, when luck wills it, camera footage can pick up on things unheard." Tengan cut him off. "That Otto Octavius individual clearly knew you but not in the way that he knows, from what I can gather. But that Rhinoceros man stated your name aloud. He knew you but you didn't."
Kazuo now bore a far more intense gaze. "Peter, you better begin to explain yourself. Your life as well as your classmate's lives were at risk today and that is not something I would just idly brush aside without reasonable justification. And it has to be a damnably strong justification for me and everyone else interested to turn the other cheek."
He was at a bit of an impasse right now.
How was he gonna explain himself on the spot like this?
What does he even open with?
He can't just go "ok, I'm actually from a different universe filled with superhumans" as his opener.
The teen felt a headache coming on as he had to think of everything that he had experienced up to this point.
The spell going haywire.
Falling through the literal Multiverse.
Arriving in this universe.
That overgrown lizard encounter.
The really, really eccentric new classmates of Hope's Peak that he had been talked into enrolling.
And then Doctor Octopus and Rhino, the former of whom dumped a whole plethora of other crazy matters to consider.
"Uh… Peter?"
The webhead blinked, realizing he had been silent all this time, looking up from the ground to see a concerned and confused Kazuo.
"Are you alright there?" He inquired. "You seem… well… conflicted I feel may be too simple a word."
"You have no idea." Peter winced at his words, rubbing the bridge of his nose. "I don't know how to tell you any of this, Mr. Tengan. This is… I don't know or think any of you guys ever contemplated the reality of my situation."
"That's a bold statement to be had, Mr. Parker."
"Not one I would say lightly, Mr. Tengan, I promise."
The older of the two gave the boy a hard gaze for a time until he sighed and patted his shoulder.
"Just give it a try, my boy." Kazuo encouraged. "I promise you that I will keep an open mind to whatever it is you have to say. Believe me, I have seen much in my lifetime."
'Not sure you've seen my kind of crazy.' Were Peter's thoughts, mulling over how to start this.
"Ok… so…" Peter stumbled over his words several times. "Gah, this is so hard."
He seriously didn't want to do this right now. But Tengan was resolute in waiting for him and well… he'd feel pretty pathetic and cowardly if he up and ran away right about now.
"Take your time." The elder gentleman advised. "Collect your thoughts and just take it one step at a time."
'Easier said than done.' The young hero internally mused, shaking his head. He placed his hands over his face, dragging them over him, clapping them together a second later.
"Alright, alright, so, how crazy of a story are you willing to entertain?" Was Peter's first question.
"I said it before, try me." Tengan goaded on.
"Ok, ever heard of something called the multiverse theory?" And that question slightly flummoxed Kazuo though for Peter, that was to be expected.
"The… Multiverse theory?" Kazuo parroted to be sure of what he heard.
Peter nodded. "Yeah, the Multiverse. The concepts that there are other universes, realities, dimensions and all that jazz beyond the one you exist in at this time."
The expression Tengan gave off was the one the Ultimate Superhero expected to see, one of complete and utter bewilderment.
"Other… universes? Realities?" Kazuo repeated, just to be sure of what he heard, the young teen nodding.
"Yeah, like… like… think of it like this." Peter strained his brain to come up with a quick explanation. "Think of yourself as you are now. Tengan Kazuo, former Headmaster of Hope's Peak Academy, a long career of locating and bringing in other students with Ultimate talents to the school."
Tengan was unclear as to where or what Peter was going with this but nodded all the same for him to continue.
"Ok now think what if," Peter emphasized. "What If you went down a different path in life? Made a different point in your life where you wound up as… a college professor for another academy or ended up becoming the Prime Minister of Japan. What if, you did make that choice and somewhere else, in another universe, that was the path you ended up on? Where you never founded or led Hope's Peak Academy at one point."
That was a hard prospect to consider since Tengan never would have dreamed of doing… actually…
'Prime Minister.' Kazuo felt a sudden flashback to a time many decades in the past.
When he was in his mid-40s, being approached by politicians, the idea of him becoming Prime Minister had been brought up a number of times. He rejected the notion, having felt a greater responsibility in helping shape the future leaders and influencers of his country far more important than leading the entire country. In a way, he was or helped in shaping its future by remaining the Headmaster of the most influential school in all of Japan.
But…
Tengan's eyes widened slightly.
What if he had taken the offer?
What if… instead of helping the new Headmaster of Hope's Peak Academy, he was Prime Minister or possibly already had done his time as such?
That was something that he had once considered and…
Wait…
"Peter…" Tengan slowly said, eyeing the boy with a look of uncertainty. "What are you implying right now?"
"Come on Mr. Tengan, I know you have it." Peter quietly responded. "I saw it. You were figuring it out."
He didn't reply for a time, deep in thought at the implications that Parker was suggesting until…
"Peter… I don't fully understand what you're trying to suggest here." Tengan's expression scrunched up as he was still trying to figure out what it was he had just heard.
He sighed, shaking his head, placing his hands on his hips and paced around.
"It's that what caused me to wind up here is way beyond anything either of us has ever experienced. And I'm gonna need a whiteboard to explain it all."
Tengan gave him a hard look before letting out a sigh, shaking his head.
'Seems like I got more with this young man than I bargained for.' He wryly thought to himself.
"Perhaps now was an inappropriate time to ask on such a matter." Kazuo relented, mentally berating himself for dropping such matters on his ward so suddenly.
He needs to assimilate into this new environment, not get interrogated by the man who took him in.
Unfortunately, Tengan knew that those who operate behind the scene of Hope's Peak will be covering that part of his job for him.
"Thanks, Mr. Tengan." Peter appreciatively said.
The gratitude was waved off, another pat on the back that edged him forward.
"You did enough for today as is." Tengan remarked. "Right now, a well warranted well night's rest is in order. For you and your classmates."
"Yeah." Spider-man winced, rotating his shoulder, feeling the bandages Mikan applied earlier shifting around the wound he got from Rhino. "But what's gonna happen with Octavius and that Rhino guy? Where can guys like that even be held?"
The elderly fellow let out a disgruntled sigh, already knowing the answer.
"Where else?" He rhetorically asked, Peter's eyes widening.
"At the school?!" The alarm was easy to hear. "B-but… they're dangerous!"
"Yes, but you should already know the uniqueness that is Hope's Peak Academy." Tengan pointed out. "That school is willing to go out of its way to renovate or even build new structures entirely to suit the needs of the requirements whatever the talent may be. Who's to say they won't do the same in holding prisoners?"
Peter's mouth opened and closed, arms moving about erratically as he tried to come up with another counter other than all the obvious ones until Kazuo waved him down.
"It would be useless to even try to argue against it, my boy." The former Headmaster stated. "There are those in power that would undoubtedly wish to see individuals of extraordinary capabilities for themselves. At the very least, they'll be able to be monitored by you if anything goes wrong."
That did nothing in lessening Peter's concerns as the mere thought of Rhino and Doc Ock being in a school full of teens where they could possibly run rampant made a shiver go down his spine.
This day…
There was just too much to process for the young superhero.
He knew that he would have to explain this to Tengan as the man isn't one to drop such a matter so idly, as he said. Then there was the rest of his new classmates.
How the hell was he supposed to explain all this?
Could he even explain this?
Better yet, should he?
All in all, an eventful, crazy and memorable first day of Hope's Peak to be sure for the class of 77b.
