Ultimate Friendly Neighborhood Spider-man Chapter 6: Alright, Start Talking.
This world… was boring.
With all its uniqueness, all the talent it can produce, the capabilities of those on this planet were just so incredibly boring.
How can anyone stand to live in a world of unadulterated boredom?
It was maddening really.
There was nothing new to this world.
Nothing new to expect from anyone from anywhere on Earth.
Everybody was so damn predictable. From the most common hack to even those who have an "Ultimate Talent".
Those are the ones who were really bothersome. Having such incredible abilities and talent yet due to their talent, they're so easy to predict. So easy to figure out their personality, their ideas, their talents, all of it.
It was all just so drab, unoriginal and again, boring.
These were the thoughts that constantly plagued the girl known as Junko Enoshima.
If one were to take a quick glance at her, several quick assumptions would be made. She has a naturally pretty face with impeccable taste in fashion.
But if someone was of the observant variety, one look in her eyes spoke a different, more demented personality. Rather than the vibrant, outgoing persona she puts out on the outside, her eyes tell of a girl entrenched with only one emotion which is her very being.
DESPAIR.
It's all she is and all she ever will be.
And one day… one day she will bring her despair and make the whole world experience it.
Enough of this brain-addling, monotonous everyday bullshit.
Junko craves to bring out the worst in humanity to the surface and let Despair reign supreme.
But that's something she has planned for the future. Right now, she was at an airport in Japan, waiting patiently for her flight to wherever. She already knows where she's going, not really caring all that much.
This was all just too boring.
Even that crowd of people gathered beneath a large television screen was just another "random" event that's rather planned to control the masses and…
Wait… what the hell was that?
Junko's eyes narrowed for a moment as she observed the television screen from behind the crowd of people beneath it.
The headline was something about a fight that had taken place within the city of Hope's Peak Academy.
But it wasn't just any ordinary fight.
Far from it.
No, it looked like something pulled straight from a manga or a comic book.
Junko's eyes widened at the sight of a man garbed in a tight red and blue battling against another man, likely an American who just so happened to have four additional mechanical arms. Then, the screen cut to the same red and blue individual combatting a hulking behemoth of what appeared to be a human being that looked like a bipedal rhinoceros.
What… what was this?
This wasn't… this was nothing at all what Junko could have ever envisioned happening.
What was going on right now?
There were multiple angles displayed now of this battle, watching the one in red, blue and gold combat the two larger foes. This individual with the skintight suit appeared to have a counter to the man with multiple limbs, four other golden spider-like legs protruding from his back.
The gargantuan horned fellow, on the other hand, well, Junko can say he's undoubtedly one of the more terrifying things she has seen this side of the globe. But what was even crazier was the same red, blue and golden-clad individual from before stopped the rampaging horned being and hefted him over his body and slammed him down.
All around her, onlookers pointed and gasped, openly talking in disbelief at what they were seeing on the screen.
Some believed this to be a film of some kind but seeing the breaking news on top of the news anchors being recognizable faces covering this sudden occurrence only lent credence that this may indeed be real.
But all of that didn't matter to Junko Enoshima.
To her, this… this was something she could have never foreseen.
In a world of endless possibilities where everything would end up being as she had predicted and anticipated, this right here was completely new.
Completely fresh.
Completely out of her analytical mind.
And she wanted to know and understand more about it.
Taking another moment to examine where this battle took place, Junko's grin widened considerably.
Turns out she'll be going to Hope's Peak sooner rather than later.
All the while, within the very school itself, a meeting between three adults and an interdimensional visitor was taking place.
Headmaster Kirigiri sat at his desk, hands laced together, eyes closed with a very comical look of uncertainty.
On the couch to the left of the desk, Talent Scout Koichi Kizakura was helping himself to a full bottle of alcohol, constantly mumbling to himself that it was not enough with several more bottles lined up next to him.
To the right of the Headmaster was the other couch occupied by a calm but keen-looking Kazuo Tengan whose eyes were sharp and attentive. Despite his outward appearance, those with a more perceptive sight would have been able to pick up on the troubled glint the elderly gentleman possessed.
In front of these three men was one Peter Parker, garbed in his iron spider suit, appearing unsure of what to say right now.
Granted, moments prior, there was a lot he did talk about but seeing the men before him in their varying states of response made him want to wait and see how he should talk next.
"So, uh…" Peter coughed into his hands. "Any questions?"
"Too many to count." Koichi managed out, moving onto his second bottle, draining half of it in one go.
Normally, when seeing such behavior from the scout, the man would be given looks of disapproval or be verbally reprimanded for such behavior.
But after hearing the story of Peter Parker, one tends to discard such notions, instead trying to figure out just how to make sense of a tale that one still has difficulty understanding.
Kirigiri rand his hands through his hair, a conflicted expression making its way onto his face whilst Kazuo slowly stood, beginning to pace back and forth between them all.
"How about we just start from the top?" He suggested.
"And be here for another few hours?" The blond drunk grumbled out.
"Bullet points." Tengan quickly tacked on. "No need to add to the collective headache we're having right now."
"Here, here." Koichi drunkenly saluted.
Jin released a sigh, eyeing the troubled teen with an analytical eye.
"Alright, let's set the record straight." He declared, standing from his seat. "You, Peter Parker, are not from this universe."
"Y-Yeah."
"And in that light, you're telling us that the concept and idea of the multiverse is real. That there are endless universes and realities where likely anything and everything exists?"
"It kinda plays into the initial singularity in how we understand it." Peter went off. "What we're looking at is an eternal inflation system, exponentially growing without any end in sight. It completely changes our understanding of the quantum-"
"Kid." Koichi cut through the scientific rambling. "We get it, you're a super genius. But we're morons so ya gotta simplify things for us here."
"Oh, uh, right, right, sorry bout that." Parker sheepishly apologized.
"A multiverse." Tengan murmured, holding a contemplative expression. "And those recordings you showed us? All those individuals, you going into space… that being… Thanos…"
The adult men all shifted about uncomfortably as they recalled the footage Parker showed them of him encountering alien life and then going into space to fight a being that threatened his universe. And he told them that Thanos won at one point, half of all life in his universe being eradicated by the apparent snap of a finger.
All this, trying to comprehend and wrap their minds around it was… they had seen some extraordinary things in regards to the many Ultimate Talents that have passed through the hall of Hopes Peak.
They may have gotten more baggage than they had initially suspected when taking on this young superhero.
"I really don't know how to process all this." Jin Kirigiri freely admitted, plopping back into his seat, arms dangling on the sides.
"Join the *burp* club." The Scout in the room muttered, wiping liquor from the corner of his mouth.
"And what about those other two… men." Tengan rubbed his chin. "If we can call one of them a man that is. Do you know them?"
Peter shook his head. "I met those two psychos yesterday. But… but they did know me. They knew my name right off the bat until Doc Ock saw my face. He said I'm not Peter Parker."
"And what's that supposed to mean?" Was Koichi's slurred question.
Peter frowned, looking down in thought for a few seconds, pacing about slightly.
"Well… if we're talking about the multiverse…" Parker slowly said. "And the whole concept of infinite realities and possibilities existing… then Ock is from a universe that has its own Spider-man, one whom he knows personally who is also called Peter Parker."
Jin grunted, feeling a migraine coming on.
"And you mentioned the larger one, the one who called himself Rhino," Tengan brought up. "He also knew your name."
"So what does this entail, Mr. Parker?" Jin inquired.
"Does that mean he has a Spider-Man called Peter Parker as well?" Koichi surmised, burping aloud.
Peter didn't even seem to know if he should answer that, too amazed at the idea and really, the realization of there being a Multiverse.
And the fact that the two villains he just faced encountered alternate versions of himself!
That idea alone was almost too surreal to wrap his mind around. Let alone already traveling the multiverse and winding up in another reality.
"I think… no, yeah, that's probably it." He shakily said, unable to hide a small grin of awe at the thought of it. "They have their own version of Spider-man that they've fought in the past."
"So glad you can find some amusement in this." The drunk of the group slurred out.
"I can't help it." Peter unabashedly admitted. "I mean, the whole idea of infinite realities, infinite universes where anything that can happen undoubtedly will happen. How cool is that?"
"It's a bit much to wrap my mind around." The Headmaster of Hope's Peak quietly said. "Kinda makes me feel a hell of a lot smaller than I already am in the grand scheme of things."
"Then it is best for now that we don't dwell on it." Tengan declared in a firm tone. "We already have… well, I don't want to make Parker out to be a burden. He is already burdened with the knowledge that he has and the position he finds himself in. I shall endeavor to do what I can for you, my boy."
Peter felt a bit bashful, grinning at the aged gentleman. "Ya don't have to do all that for me, sir. I feel like I'm the one who owes you more." The boy then became slightly crestfallen. "If those guys were attacking the city… it was probably cuz of me. They recognized me as Spider-man so-"
"None of that." Kazuo interrupted. "A young man like yourself shan't not burden yourself with such responsibility. What matters is you acted fast, running into danger to prevent those men from causing more damage than they already have. For now, I'd worry more about the explanation you will have to give to your classmates."
The Headmaster and Scout both grunted at the same time.
"Yeah, not sure how we're gonna make them drop any of this." The latter remarked. "They ran headfirst into that insanity themselves. They ain't gonna just let us forget about it so easily."
"What should I tell them?" Peter asked, looking to the three adults for some guidance.
"Normally, I would suggest you just avoid the topic entirely but that would be a fool's errand." Jin stated, rubbing his chin in thought. "The best I can advise you to do is give them some form of the truth, not all of it."
"Uh…" The young hero had a hand over his head. "Are you sure about that?"
"No." The Headmaster bluntly admitted. "But it's better than nothing. They will pressure you into telling them just what happened so you must be smart in going about explaining yourself."
"And how do I do that?" Peter asked, now nervous at the thought of it.
Koichi unceremoniously belched aloud, wiping his mouth with his sleeve and stood up.
"You leave that to me kid." The Scout assured. "I'll cover your ass from anything they'll ask."
"Are ya sure?"
"No but gotta keep them off your back till… well, I don't know what exactly is supposed to happen but having a conversation about this whole other universe bullshit to stress over ain't exactly something we wanna cover again."
"Uh… I guess." Peter was clearly unsure about all this but then again, this universe wasn't like his own.
The impossible came in the form of people of extraordinary talent in one field.
His was… well, he was now aware that the Multiverse existed. And apparently so was Doctor Strange who protected his universe from other multiversal threats.
And just thinking of Dr. Strange made him crestfallen.
When he thought back to the ritual that Strange had promised him would help fix the problems he had back in his reality, it dawned on Peter that really, it was his fault he wound up here. His constant butting in, interrupting and blurting out the names of his loved ones caused the spell to go haywire.
Maybe… it would have been better had he just faced the consequences.
Or Stephen should have really laid out the parameters of the spell better. Thinking back on it now, he could have had it that people forgot all about Mysterio. But then again, would that have really worked?
The memory of Beck being erased was one thing but what about the damage that he had caused and social media having the videos?
Would the magic have erased that too?
Probably. Stephen seemed pretty confident in that spell.
Or maybe-
"Oi, Parker." A sharp voice cut through his thoughts, startling him back to reality.
"Huh, what?" Was his dumb response, seeing Jin, Koichi and Tengan all looking at him with varying degrees of bewilderment and concern.
"You alright there?" The Headmaster of Hope's Peak inquired. "You look troubled. More than you were earlier."
"Oh, uh," Peter released a strained chuckle. "Sorry, I was just… lot on my mind."
"We can see that." Koichi commented, going over to pat the teen on the shoulder. "Don't worry… Okay, stupid thing to say honestly but take it one step at a time, kid. We've got your back if anything so don't hesitate to lean on us if ya need it."
'It's cuz of me doing that is what lead to this mess now.' Were his inner thoughts but still, he couldn't help but give them an appreciative smile.
"Now, let's get going." The alcoholic appreciator stated, lightly slapping Peter on the back. "Class is about to start and I don't wanna keep the other rugrats waiting."
"Do you even have a lesson plan in mind?" Kirigiri dryly asked.
"Just keep em distracted enough till my replacement comes." Koichi cheerfully said, guiding Peter out of the office, knowing the flat look that his old friend was directing toward him.
"It's gonna be a long two weeks." Was Jin's low response, Kazuo chuckling at the Headmaster's mood.
"He'll hold them over long enough, old friend."
"Oh yeah?" Was the younger man's wry response. "You do realize it's Koichi we're talking about here, right?"
"At least in this instance, I do believe the class will be more united than prior ones. Young Parker will undoubtedly be a focal point of discussion for them."
Kirigiri released a tired sigh, running a hand through his hair.
"Do you believe any of it?" The Headmaster asked, tone displaying clear uncertainty. "What he just told us… it's beyond anything we've ever encountered, let alone thought of as a concept."
"Those suit recordings are a convincing argument to be certain." Tengan murmured.
"And how do you think that wasn't part of the fabrication?" Jin countered but even he felt lame in saying this, something that the elder of the two picked up on given the look he just got.
"Those are some hell of a fabrication if that is the case." Kazuo flatly said, making Kirigiri sigh in his seat, hands in his head.
"God… I think we got more than we bargained for with that boy." The well-suited man grumbled into his hands.
His predecessor chortled sympathetically. "Apologies, my friend. I can only do so much."
"Well, what can we do? Really? How do we deal with something like this?"
"I wish I could tell you." Kazuo sighed. "But unfortunately, other universes and realities fall outside my jurisdictions. I'm used to cultivating talents."
"And what of the board?" Jin's tone took on a darker inflection. "What will they-"
"They will do nothing." Tengan firmly cut him off, a voice that brokered no arguments. "That boy is outside their field and therefore will remain that way."
"Is that gonna stop them?"
"Likely not but this is beyond them as it is us."
"Is it? Is it really anymore?"
Tengan gave Jin a questioning gaze, a silent query of "What do you mean?".
"Those two, Doctor Octopus and Rhino. They came here, attacking Mr. Parker knowing him when he did not know them. And how he concluded that they, from their own universes, have Spider-men of their own." Jin took a moment to organize his thoughts. "So what if… what if we can get other Spider-men and worse, adversaries that know who he is?"
The former headmaster of Hope's Peak frowned at the concept, though not a concept at all as it had already come to pass, they were just unaware of it.
Thinking back to Koichi's first encounter with Peter, he mentioned that he fought a creature of some kind akin to an oversized lizard. The beast could speak and it also knew Peter by name, the same as the other two enemies.
One of Peter's newest classmates, the Nurse girl, was present with him, seeing him fight this creature. He had been meaning to speak with her as well on this matter, see what she had to say about it.
But thinking about what Jin said, Kazuo's brows creased together in thought, mulling over what the current Headmaster had said.
Other Spider-men possibly appear along with the adversaries that can come with them or appear separately from them. Regardless, that is now something that they had to take into account.
And frankly, how can they really prepare for something like that?
Dealing with super-powered, super-human individuals that can level city streets in mere moments… Hopes Peak has special individuals and all but this?
This is far outside the scope and realm in which they operate.
"It's best we handle this one step at a time." The Elder gentlemen released a derisive chuckle. "I don't even understand how to do that honestly."
"We're in the same boat, my friend." Jin said with a tired smile. "For now, let's just do what we must for what's to come. However we can do it."
Kazuo mirthfully shook his head, leaving the office a few moments later and he went back to conduct his own work at Hope's Peak Academy.
All the while, in classroom 77b…
Mikan Tsumiki was a quaint, quiet young girl who always felt as though she was more of a burden than a benefit to society. So she set out on her life to find a way where she could finally excel at something other than being a complete waste of space(her own self-loathing, mind you) and give back to the world in some way shape or form.
Thus, through many studious nights alone, the plum-haired teen would eventually end up becoming the Ultimate Nurse and would join Hope's Peak Academy. This was something she never would have thought in her short existence here on Earth that she would ever find herself in.
The girl hoped and prayed that she would not be a burden and be the beneficial help she always aspired to be.
However…
Being interrogated by her new classmates, while not the last thing she had expected, was definitely somewhere toward the bottom of her list.
Right now, she sat rigidly in her seat in the homeroom of class 77b with the attention of all her classmates fixed firmly on her.
The morning was… it wasn't normal, let's be real.
This morning was the one that came after the stunning and insane events that took place on their orientation day here at Beacon. In what was supposed to be a day where everyone got grouped off into learning about one another, it spiraled into something that could only be found in a comic book or Manga.
One of their classmates who went by the high school level talent of Ultimate Superhero lived up to his namesake when trouble occurred in the city.
Peter Parker, or Spider-Man as he calls himself, swung headfirst into danger in the most literal of ways.
There, class 77b bore witness to a clash of superpowered beings for the first time and it was mind-bending to be sure.
Yes, many of these students had seen many crazy things in their short lives as usual, if you're an Ultimate, your life is seldom ever normal.
Cooky, crazy, and eccentric was a bit normal.
But even that was beyond anything any of them would have ever expected to see in their lives.
This is what leads to here and now, Mikan about to be grilled by her classmates.
See, whilst many of them spoke of what transpired yesterday, it was the Ultimate Lucky Student who pointed out a missed little tidbit.
"Say, doesn't Mikan know Peter before coming here? Koichi-Sensei said so during orientation."
This in turn caused one Kuzuryu Fuyuhiko to slam his hands down on Tsumiki's desk and give her a piercing glare that caused her to wilt and sweat profusely.
"Alright, Nurse, it's best you start talkin'." The well-dressed teen all but demanded. "Nagito is right. I remember you and Peter were already chummy with each other so spill it. The hell is his deal?"
"The prince of crime is correct." Gundham Tanaka dramatically posed next to the Ultimate Gangster, his hamsters all making gestures of their own. "Speak now healer, What do you know of the hero?"
The poor girl was trembling, lips curling up and down as she looked down to avoid the intense gazes of the pair when Sonia Nevermind stepped in.
"That's enough, both of you." She exclaimed with authority, hand out with a pose of her own. "Is that any way to speak with a lady like Mikan? After her treatment of your injuries from the day before?"
The shorter blond rolled his eyes, lifting his hands from Tsumiki's desk.
"That's not what this is about and you know it. Not that I don't appreciate her patching us up yesterday but come on," He gestured at the nurse. "You can't lie and tell me you're not in the least bit curious."
"We're way past that." Kazuichi Soda practically exclaimed. "That was some of the craziest shit I've ever seen in my life. I still can't believe that all happened yesterday. How and why are we even here?"
"I do declare this to be the mystery of the century!" Teruteru stated in an unusual southern US twanged accent.
"Come on you two, give her some room." Nekomaru Nidai said, placing his hands on Gundham and Fuyuhiko's shoulders and pulling them back.
Then, Chiaki stepped forward, pulled up a chair and seated herself in front of the jittery teen.
"Mikan, I know they just asked you this but I'll ask you more gently this time." Hearing this made Fuyuhiko roll his eyes. "But Nagito is right. You and Peter do know each other before coming to Beacon. Why is that?"
"They both said they saved each other." Komaeda brought up.
"You did?" Soda scratched the top of his head. "I don't think Parker is the kind of guy who looks like he needs saving."
"Guys, we should give her a chance to talk." Ryota spoke up.
Mikan stammered and stuttered, unable to form a coherent sentence that didn't have at least several repeating syllables.
"Just start from the beginning." Sonia encouraged kindly, seating herself next to the nervous nurse.
The plum-haired teen found herself smiling shyly at the support, trying her best to compose her demeanor despite how much pressure was on her right now. Eventually, after a few seconds of jitteriness, she managed to put herself together.
"Th-There was s-something that happened when I f-first found Peter." The nurse mumbled, wracking her memory of the night she met the New Yorker. "I w-was leaving the clinic I worked at when there was this crazy lightning storm and-"
"Lightning storm?" Peko spoke up, Fuyuhiko's own head perking up. "A lightning storm you said?"
Mikan hesitantly nodded, intimidated by the intense eyes of the blade master.
"One that was incredibly unusual, if not outright dangerous? More so than your typical lightning storm?"
The nurse nodded again, slower this time as she caught on to what the Ultimate Swordsman was talking about.
"You saw it?" She quietly asked with Peko and Fuyuhiko nodding.
"So it wasn't some freaky dream or occurrence." The gangster remarked with a disgruntled frown.
"Wait, what?" Soda spoke up in bewilderment. "What lightning storm? What are you guys talking about?"
"Later." Fuyuhiko curtly said. "Keep talking."
The nurse jolted at the command, getting Sonia to give the gangster an annoyed look yet the jittery girl continued her tale all the same.
"W-Well, I was leaving my c-clinic and all when I saw that thunderstorm. I thought it was dangerous and I thought it looked like a few places were struck by bolts of lightning."
Class 77b was silent, hanging on to every word she said.
"After it all p-passed, I heard something in an n-nearby a-alleyway, and I-I… I found him. I took h-him to my clinic and I found his suits and…"
There was bated silence that caused a level of anxiety to begin to build up in the classroom.
"When I placed him on the examination table in my clinic, s-something happened that I th-thought I imagined u-up." Mikan nervously bit her thumb, looking down as the memory flashed in her mind.
"What was it?" Chiaki softly asked.
The Nurse was silent, replaying the memory in her mind of the night she first met Peter. Thinking hard, she recalled the strange symbols that appeared on his body, glowing brightly before there was a light shockwave that expelled itself from his body.
"I don't know what it was but… these symbols, r-runes maybe, appeared a-around him." Mikan explained. "They were glowing and the-the they just…"
She trailed off as her gaze was directed to the entrance of the classroom.
The others wanted to ask just what she was about to say when they all turned to what she was staring at.
Or rather who she was staring at.
Standing at the doorway, sensing the tension in the air, was the very subject of their discussion.
"Peter." The teen Nurse whispered.
"Uh," The spider-themed superhero awkwardly raised his hand in greeting. "Hey guys."
"Peter!" He was immediately swarmed by his classmates, especially those who were first with him when he fought Doc Ock and Rhino.
Mikan was right in front of him, showing no inclination toward personal space, patting him down.
"Are you ok? Are you still injured? Have you healed? What's your temperature? Do I need to-"
"Mikan." Parker interrupted, gently grabbing her wrists and putting them down before placing his own hands on her shoulders. "I'm ok, promise. Nothing I haven't dealt with before."
"That is something you've dealt with before?!" Fuyuhiko remarked in disbelief.
Peter opened and closed his mouth a few times, shrugging slightly.
"Er… yes? Kinda? Look, it's really complicated."
"Then uncomplicate it." Mahiru interjected, hands on her hips. "You know you had us all really worried with how we saw you fighting those two freaks. They almost butchered you!"
"Trust me, I've nearly been killed before, this isn't anything-"
"WHAT?!" He was interrupted by several of the girls and guys crying out at the same time.
"Superhero." Parker quickly said, holding his hands up to try placating them. "I know this doesn't sound all that convincing but Ultimate Superhero, remember? This is what I do."
"Sure as shit never seen that kind of lunacy before." The Ultimate Yakuza retorted.
"You have brought forth the enemies of the other worlds." Gundham Tanaka dramatically stated, posing with his Guinea pigs. "A rift within our world has now unleashed the powers of the endless darkness that can swallow everything in its path."
It was insane how spot-on Tanaka was to a degree right now.
"I don't know what Gundham is talking about but what we saw yesterday was beyond anything we've ever seen." Nekomaru voiced the thoughts that all in the classroom shared.
"That stuff yesterday was something out of an anime." Ryota remarked, pulling out a bag of chips he dug into.
"You better explain yourself, Peter Parker." Mahiru stated, one hand on her hip with her other poking his chest.
"Jeez, full name, huh?" Peter quipped, giving a strained smile at the photographer who only puffed her cheeks out in response.
He looked around at his new classmates and felt a sense of conflict rise up.
Pragmatically, he really didn't want to explain himself because, frankly, he didn't know his class all that much. The only person he knew personally was Mikan and it wasn't by much.
It's not that he wasn't appreciative, Peter held a great deal of gratitude towards the fretful nurse after she took him into her clinic and patched him up.
And those who were with him, they had willingly rushed in to help him fight against those crazy supervillains when they had literally only known each other for a few hours. But that's just it, he only knew them by this point for a day.
Still, going back to them coming to help him in spite of the danger they put themselves into…
"Ok," Peter raised his hands. "I know that this is gonna be annoying to swallow but I can't tell you guys anything just yet."
He was met with the expected response, outcries of "What?" and "What do you mean?" and "Why not?" and all that in between.
"Guys, guys, guys," Peter raised his voice slightly trying to placate their mood. "I understand, believe me, I do but this is way more complicated than you think. I've already spoken to Misters Kirigiri, Tengan and Koichi about all this and they told me that until they and I understand this better, we can't go talking about it to anyone."
"Ah, come on, that's bullcrap and you know it." Soda said in an overdramatic fashion, pointing at the New Yorker emphatically. "That shit we saw yesterday was completely insane. Can't you tell us something?"
The apologetic look he got from the brown-haired teen conveyed the answer he got.
The pink-haired mechanic only grumbled and whined whilst the rest of the class appeared conflicted. Well… most of them.
"Well this is great." Ibuki Mioda suddenly exclaimed, throwing her hand around Peter's shoulders. "This is exactly the kind of inspiration I need for my music. Nothing like a little bit of mystery to spice things up!"
"Oh~ spice things up you say?" Teruteru remarked with a gleam in his eyes and a suave gesture. "I just so happen to be a proficient master of spices."
"Yuck," Hiyoko put on a look of angered disgust. "Do you have to make such faces when you say that? You look like a filthy swine when you talk."
While some were reacting in their own ways to these interactions, those who were with Peter at the beginning of yesterday's insanity kept their attention on him.
"Is there really nothing you can tell us?" Mahiru questioned, the webhead releasing a small sigh.
"Like I said, it's really complicated and unless you have an understanding of… actually, if I say that, it might cause more confusion." Peter remarked, garnering the expected bewildered looks.
"But what about those two freakshows you fought yesterday?" Fuyuhiko questioned. "Where the hell are they right now?"
"The principal told me they're being held somewhere in this school, apparently." Peter admitted, shocking his classmates.
"WHAT?!" Several of them yelled at once.
"WHY WOULD THEY BE KEPT HERE?!" Soda distressingly shrieked, clutching the sides of his head.
"That seems wildly irresponsible." Sonia declared.
"What foolish mortals allowed for such a folly upon this plane of existence?!" Gundham said in complete seriousness.
"Seriously? What a bunch of shitty pig-headed idiots." Hiyoko remarked in disgust.
"Whoever that dumb fuck is needs a serious whack across the head." Fuyuhiko venomously said.
"That is considerably dangerous." Chiaki noted with a frown.
"Wonder if they're in the mood for a challenge." Akane stated, slamming her right fist into her left palm, a manic grin in place.
"I wouldn't consider it, Akane." Nekomaru said in a low voice, the pain of his injuries still fresh.
"Guys, guys," Peter spoke up, trying to get them all to calm down. "I know it seems stupid but apparently, cuz of how unique they are and how unique Hope's Peak is, this place is actually the only place that has the facilities and technology to hold them… sorta."
"Sorta?" Soda parroted. "How is that supposed to make us feel better?"
"Well, Mr. Tengan mentioned how Hope's Peak is always changing and adjusting certain parts of the building and campus to accommodate new students to their particular talents." Peter revealed. "They just took some of the old ones and retrofitted it to hold them."
"I don't know if there's anything on this planet that can hold someone like that horned guy." Mahiru nervously said.
'Maybe not this planet.' Were Parker's idle thoughts.
What he wouldn't give to have some of the technology of home here. Maybe there is an equivalent here that he has yet to encounter.
He shook his head.
"So long as those cells or whatever they are hold them, that's all that matters." Peter resolutely said. "Besides, I definitely need to talk to them."
That made the class snap their heads in his direction.
"Wh-wh-what?!" Mikan stammered out, a look of terror on her face, grabbing his arm. "P-Peter, you can't!"
"Those guys are extremely dangerous." Mahiru worriedly added on.
"They're contained." Peter reassured.
"Would they even hold those bastards for long?" Fuyuhiko intensely questioned. "You saw what they were capable of."
"I agree." Peko spoke up now. "At the very least, I would advise caution."
"Don't worry, I'm going in prepared." Peter pulled his uniform jacket back to reveal his suit's utility belt around his waist. A moment later, a holographic projection of four mechanical arms appeared. "I left some of the nanomachines from my suit on those tentacles of his attached to his spine. They won't be able to do anything."
"And what about that Rhino guy?" Nekomaru pointed out.
Peter chuckled nervously. "Yeah, I'm not talkin' to him until he's trapped under a metal boulder. Maybe that'll keep him in place."
"I still don't understand all this." Teruteru now spoke up, rubbing his chin. "It feels like you're withholding a considerable amount of information."
"Oh~ Maybe this can be used for Ibuki's next album." The teen rockstar seemingly pulled her guitar out of nowhere, strumming its strings. "A ballad of rumors and mysteries! Now I just need a song title!"
"Are you sure you should be doing this?" Mahiru quietly asked, ignoring the eccentric musician. "I mean… you saw what they were capable of."
Peter put on a more confident look, giving the photographer a small smile.
"Hey, nothing I haven't handled before. Ultimate Superhero, remember? Crazy stuff like this is in my job description."
"Ya sure?" Fuyuhiko butted in. "Sure as fuck doesn't feel like that to me."
"For him, it is unfortunately." Chimed in a new, more mature male voice.
The class all turned to see the man who had scouted them individually for Hope's Peak standing in the doorway.
"Professor Kizakura." Sonia muttered, the Ultimate Talent Scout stepping into the room, walking past the students to stand by Peter, placing a hand on his shoulder.
"I know you guys have questions but Peter can't answer them right now." The fedora-wearing teacher plainly said. "Cuz he himself only knows so much."
"I think he knows more than enough already." Chiaki stated and Koichi couldn't help but smirk at her astute deduction.
'Clever kid.' He internally noted before speaking again. "Maybe he does, maybe he doesn't, he still can't talk to ya guys about it. Orders from the old man and principal."
"Wh-why not?" Mikan muttered nervously.
"I don't wanna put you guys in danger." Peter blurted out, causing his classmate's eyes to widen slightly at this proclamation. "This has to do with me, not you guys."
There was a lull of silence as the words sunk in when suddenly, Gundham of all people began to cackle to himself.
"Kekekeke, you blithering, noble, foolish hero." He said, holding up his index and middle finger to his forehead. "Unless you have failed to recall the events of the day before, you can no longer dictate the causality of the fate that has been laid out before us."
"Uh… wha-"
"In your need for duty as a hero, do not hinder or neglect our own capacity and power." Tanaka declared, now striking a pose with his four dark devas of destruction joining him in his posture. "For our destinies are intertwined as one, raging against the tides of fate to create one more unimaginable than once believed!"
"He's right!" Nekomaru yelled out, flexing his hulking muscles, the electricity that illogically flowed out of his eyes erupting out. "You ran headfirst into danger and we followed. Doesn't matter how much you try to slice it, we're part of this now too!"
"Indeed!" Sonia now spoke up, exuding the air of royal authority. "Peter Parker, we willingly followed in your footsteps towards danger, despite us not understanding nor knowing what it would be. It would be cruel and irresponsible for you to discard us and keep us from such danger!"
"I don't think keeping us out of danger is irresponsible." Teruteru muttered, rubbing his head, individuals such as Soda, Mikan, Ryota and Mahiru nodding along in agreement.
"While I understand what you are saying, Parker, I still believe that we should at least know what you know." Peko stated, her red eyes boring into his brown ones.
"I might be low-level garbage in comparison to you, Peter, but I can't deny I'm mighty curious myself." Nagito said, laughing at his self-deprecation and causing many to have sweat drops form.
"Look, how's about this," Koichi said aloud, garnering the class's attention. "Once Peter has a better grasp of what's going on himself, he'll talk, capiche?"
"Wha-" Peter turned to the talent scout in bewilderment. "But didn't Misters Kazuo and Kirigiri tell me to keep quiet?"
"Yeah, but come on, you should know how this goes." The older gentleman said with a roll of his eyes. "You and I both know they wouldn't stop pestering you until you spill everything you know."
"Oi," Soda said, slightly peeved at being called a pest.
"He ain't wrong." Akane boredly admitted, picking her ear with her pinky.
"Ugh, do you have to be so gross?" Hiyoko admonished the athletically busty student.
A loud clap of hands silenced the classroom, all turning to the sole adult in the room.
"Alright you guys, you've had your chit-chat for today. Now it's actually time for class." He declared, directing his gaze to the chalkboard at the front of the class for the rest of the teens to emulate save for Peter as the scout directed a particular gaze at him. "As for you, you best hurry up to where those freakshows are being held. The Old Man could only keep those committee bastards away for so long, ya know."
"Wait, what?" Peter said in bewilderment. "Like… like now, now?"
"Yes, now now." Koichi stressed out, lightly patting Peter's back. "Get on with it."
"Uh…" Parker glanced at his classmates, all of whom were giving him what appeared to be expectant looks before back to the Talent Scout.
"Are you-"
"Get a move on, kid." Kizakura interjected, pointing at class 77b. "No questions when he comes back. Not until we're more aware of everything."
There was an audible, collective grumble from the students, watching as Peter awkwardly departed from the classroom. A moment later, he popped his head back through the doorway.
"Wait, where are they being held again?"
-Scene Cut-
Peter Parker stood in front of a circular structure with a thick layer of see-through glass on all sides and inside this structure stood one man.
Otto Octavius.
Slowly, said man turned his head to regard the spider-themed hero, giving him an intense glare.
"Are you here to taunt me over your victory?" The multi-limbed villain questioned curtly.
"I'm pretty sure you gotta have some kind of an idea." Peter retorted, arms crossed and eyes narrowed.
Octavius only arched a brow up in response, scoffing at the teen. "If that's your means of intimidation, then it needs work."
The teen rolled his eyes, releasing a small sigh. "Look, I'm not here to try to psyche you out or anything and I sure as hell aren't trying to scare you. Learned that lesson the first time. I just wanted to talk."
"Talk?" Otto mockingly parroted. "What on earth could the two of us possibly talk about?"
Once more, a roll of the eyes from the webhead.
"You and I both know we've got a lot to talk about. Way more than you care to admit. And I'm not leaving here until we do." Peter said with finality, arms crossed and shooting the villain and piercing look.
There was a bout of silence that permeated the room for a time until Otto was the first to break it, exhaling audibly. He turned to fully face the young hero and the two went into a staredown.
"How are you Spider-Man?"
"How did you know my name?" Parker fired back and before Octavius could follow up on his question, Peter kept talking. "My name is indeed Peter Parker and you seem to know me but not… me me. Alright, that sounded better in my head but you get the gist. You know a Spider-Man that isn't me."
Otto's eyes narrowed slightly. "And what are you implying?"
"I think you're smart enough to figure it out for yourself… or not. Wait, what do you study? I mean, you gotta be a scientist, right? You recognized my suit being made of nano-technology right after you pried it off me so-"
"Alright, alright!" Octavius cut off the teen's ramblings. "Cease your chatter, it's giving me more of a migraine than I already have."
"Oh, er, right, sorry."
Otto shook his head, rubbing the bridge of his nose with his teeth clenched.
"I… am I correct to assume, or this can't possibly be… is it true then?"
Peter only raised a brow in response.
"The multiverse theory." Octavius finally said. "I recall a man by the name of Richards a long time ago at my university speaking on the possibilities of realities close to our own, overlapping us or that could be accessed through radical and reality-defying means."
Peter actually gave the villain a strained smile. "Welcome to another universe."
"I can't believe it." Otto muttered to himself. "So all of those theories, those wild ideas-"
"Yeah, likely all true." Spider-Man interjected. "Honestly, if you're dealing with a multiverse, anything is possible."
Otto scoffed, turning away from the teen.
"So, what is all this then?" The multi-limbed foe asked. "You call yourself Spider-Man but this is not New York."
"Well, not here of my own volition, actually." Peter revealed. "This is another universe but it's one neither of us are from."
That got a bewildered expression out of Octavius.
"You're not from this universe as well?" He asked, making sure he didn't mishear the teen.
Peter shrugged. "I'm in the same boat as you, dude."
"How?"
"Huh?"
"How did you get here?"
There was a brief pause as Peter recollected the events that led him to this moment and his mind went back to the memory of him standing in front of Dr. Strange. He hadn't really given it much thought at first, him having primarily focused on his whole situation in being here.
But now that he actually thought about it, replayed the memory in his mind over and over again… about Strange constantly changing the spell after every interruption he made…
Slowly, Peters' eyes widened as a pit began to form in his gut.
Otto noticed this and took a step forward in his cell.
"How did you get here?" The man asked with greater emphasis.
"I…" Peter hesitated, reliving the memory several more times until he tilted his head down slightly, his hands hovering an inch away from his face, slowly curling into clenched fists. "I think I'm the reason why I'm here. Maybe even you."
"What?" Otto sharply said, trying to move forward but jerked in his step. He turned back, seeing his tentacles were still unresponsive to his commands and he snarled slightly. Shaking his head, he turned back to face the teen. "You better start explaining yourself boy, or I'll-"
"Oi," Peter regained some of his bravado, pointing to his belt. "In case you forgot, I'm still in control here."
"Are you now?" Octavius challenged. "The way you reacted just now suggests otherwise."
"You still can't move." Parker countered, incensing the mad scientist.
"You didn't answer my question."
"And I'm not going to." Peter fired back. "Not until I understand everything myself."
"So what, you expect me to just stay here? Caged like an animal?"
"I'm not the one who went about attacking a city when he arrived here." Spider-Man snapped, jabbing a finger at him.
Otto only curled his lip upwards.
Peter released a sigh, holding up both hands. "Look, I know that you're frustrated, pissed off and angry-"
"What gave that away?" Was the sarcastic response yet the Queens native went on.
"-But I'm in the same boat as you just… you know… not so angry and not in a cell."
"You test my patience, boy." Otto growled out.
"So until then, we're stuck here. Well, you're more, more stuck than I am but you get the idea."
"Has anyone ever told you that you tend to ramble too much?" Was Octavius' dry response.
"Better a rambler than a scrambler."
"..."
"..."
"..."
"Ok, yeah, that was weak."
Otto looked up at the ceiling his eyes with a look of resigned exasperation.
"So… be seein' ya." With that, Peter turned to leave, making the prisoner snap his head back at him.
"And what about me?" He indignantly inquired.
Peter looked back with a raised brow. "What about you?"
"You mean to tell me I am to stay imprisoned here?"
The teen gave the man a bewildered look, glancing around for a moment subconsciously.
"Well… yeah, of course. Why wouldn't you be? You do remember how you caused all that damage when you first got here, right?"
"I am not some rabid animal-"
"Yeah, well, you're acting like one." Peter interrupted with a flat look. "Do you not see your face right now? I mean, pretty sure the glass is reflective enough-"
"Must you prattle about so incessantly?" Now Otto cut him off, snarling irritably.
"If it annoys you, yeah." Parker earnestly said with a shrug.
Rather than get upset any further, Octavius hung his head with a huff. "I know, we'll get him later."
Peter quirked his brow. "Huh? Get who? Me?"
"Who else could we be possibly talking about?" Otto rhetorically asked, now looking back up at the teen.
Peter squinted at him a brow raised as he tried to understand just what was happening with the man.
"We?" He reiterated. "Who's we?"
Otto didn't answer, instead a kind of warbling snarl came from the two heads of the tentacles attached to the man that were at eye level.
Peter looked at them and then at Octavius, the answer forming in his mind.
"Wait, are those things alive?" Parker asked in disbelief.
"They have their own cortex and ability to act and think independently." Otto answered, making Peters' eyes widen.
"Whoa, so you have like… four AI all at once." He then made a face. "Wait, how are you controlling them all? If they're independent and… hang on… is that thing on your back connected to your spine the way you can hear them?"
Otto couldn't help but give a begrudging grunt of acknowledgment.
"So you have as much intelligence as the Peter that I know." Octavius remarked. "You may be foolish but at least you're not stupid."
Peter deadpanned at the man but remained silent, instead contemplating on this latest revelation.
He turned to walk away, hearing Otto call out to him as to why he was leaving but he didn't listen nor did the prisoner attempt any further questions after the first one. Right now, Peter has a lot to think about.
All the while…
A lone figure in a skintight suit stood atop a building, overlooking the city below.
He glanced around in several directions, rubbing the top of his head.
"Ok Peter, where'd ya wind up this time?"
AN
