Chapter 4: мама паук (Mama Spider)

Peter was drying his face off with one of the towels when the A.I spoke, making him flinch at the unexpected voice who seemed to be coming from everywhere.

"Triple impostor is requesting your presence in the kitchen. She says you can come if you like."

"Oh, uh..."

"I am Boss's built in personal A.I, Friday, and I am programmed in every room of the tower as well as Boss's suits. It's nice to meet you, Peter."

Okay, uhm, its nice to meet you too, I guess. This is so weird. Who's triple impostor?"

"Boss has nicknames for every avenger, Peter. Triple Imposter refers to Natasha Romanov, also known as 'scary lady'."

Scary lady? Huh. Same name he had MJ saved as on his phone. Peter didn't see the similarity between the two until now.

"Okay, uh... I'll be right there. Thanks, Ms. Friday... I think..."

"It's a pleasure, Peter."

Peter spent a few minutes hyping himself up before opening the door and stepping out. As if it knew Peter had no idea where to go, which it probably did, the A.I began to read out a series of directions to get to where Natasha invited him.

Natasha was beginning to think Peter had chickened out when he didn't arrive 5 minutes later. As she was getting up to leave, all her disappointment melted away when she saw a familiar head of brown curls peek through the doorway. A smile graced her lips as she sat back down.

"Uh... hi...?" Greeted the teenager awkwardly. "This isn't supposed to be another interrogation, is it?"

Natasha chuckled. "No, it isn't. Just merely a chat between..."

"...Frenemies?"  Suggested the boy.

"You could say that." She shrugged, sliding the untouched mug of hot chocolate towards the boy, who was seating himself down. "Can't sleep?"

"Nah," he answered, looking at the mug indecisively.

"Nightmares?" Natasha furrowed her eyes slightly. The boy shrugged before bringing the warm liquid to his lips, looking timid. "Its sort of a yes or no question, Peter."

"What about you? Why are you here so early?" He avoided her question by throwing it back at her.

"Classified," She smirked. Natasha, however, had really just been unable to relax, her mind continuously drifting to the детеныш паука (baby spider), how she referred to him in her head some of the time. Suddenly, there was the sound of movement in the vents. Both heads snapped up. "I know you're in there, idiot. Get your ass down here."

"Careful with your language there! There's a kid in the room!" came Clint's voice, his voice bouncing and echoing off the metal walls of the vents.

"Now."

Suddenly, Clint came tumbling down into the room, still wearing pyjamas. "Hey, Nat! Hi, Kid! Nat been keeping you good company?" He asked enthusiastically. Natasha beat Peter to it before he could even open his mouth to answer. "Don't you know the term 'privacy'?! You should really learn it, could be a nice concept to add to your vocabulary."

"I was bored. Now, since we're all here..." he looked at the modern clock on the wall. "1 hour and thirty-two minutes into the morning, how about we have some breakfast?"

"How do your kids deal with you? Out of the way, we don't want the tower being evacuated with the smell of your cooking." She said, pushing past the man. Natasha leaned down to Peters ear and whispered; "Never let Clint cook. Ever. He'll make the microwave blow up if you even give him permission to heat up a bowl of soup."

Clint, who had heard her, suddenly shouted: "Hey! That was only once! How was I supposed to know you don't put the spoon in with it?!" When Natasha shushed him, Peter smiled, holding back a laugh. When Nat thumped Clint on the head though, Peter couldn't help it. They both looked towards the source of the noise, confused, before joining in and breaking into fits of laughter.

Steve walked in on Natasha making her 'famous waffles', Peter and Clint engrossed in conversation, leaning over the table from their seats. Turns out, Clint actually liked Star Wars! Out of all the Avengers, Peter so far liked three. Natasha, who had welcomed him into their home with open arms; Clint, who shared the same interests with him and was awesome to talk to; and Bruce, who was the best scientist ever! (Other than trying to drug Peter, of course). Steve, on the other hand, Peter didn't like and he tensed as Rogers sat down on their table, a seat away from Peter. Y'know, it was pretty hard to like someone who had been restraining you the very few times you had interacted with them. When they directed it all at Spider-man, it was a little less personal, but when they directed it at the broken teenager under the mask, when they directed the hits at Peter Parker, it was a different story. Pete shifted In his seat.

Natasha served them her 'famous' waffles, which definitely lived up to their expectations. Peter's mouth watered as he looked at the waffles with a side of berries, a chocolate drizzle to finish it off. Before he knew it, he was practically inhaling the food, unaware of the rest of the avengers entering the room (all except for the ones that weren't early risers *cough cough* Tony *cough*). When Peter looked up, he was met by Rhodey sitting on a stool by the island counter, drinking coffee; Steve now shaking a massive protein-shake next to the fridge; Clint still in his original seat and eating the waffles; Natasha doing the same next to the archer.

He didn't know why; but this environment felt like home. And Peter decided that Natasha was his favourite avenger.

She reminded him of May.

She reminded him of Peter Parker's superhero.
