Chapter 1
If here was one thing Sirius hated, it was the end of the school year. He hated packing. He hated leaving James. He hated leaving Pete or Remus or Lily or Mary or Marlene... And most of all he hated going back to the number twelve, Grimmauld Place.
"What if we stayed here this summer?" moaned Sirius in frustration.
"NO WAY DUDE! I AM GOING HOME." James slammed his suitcase and smiled with excitement. "We are going to visit abuelita Sophia and Tía Maria! I am so excited to go to visit Spain again!" James did a little happy dance and teasingly grabbed Pete's socks and threw them on Remus.
Remus grabbed them and threw them back annoyed. "Dude, really! Leave me alone."
"Irritated, aren't we?" James stuck out his tounge.
"You would be as well, if the moon had the same effect on you as it does on me. So leave me be."
Sirius stood in front of Remus protectively, "YES! Leave Moony alone, James!"
James held up his hands in surrender, grinning mischievously. "Alright, alright, I'll leave Remus alone for now. But just you wait, Moony, I've got plenty of pranks planned for the summer." He winked at Remus before turning to Sirius.
"Seriously, Padfoot, you should come with me and my family to Spain," James said with a pleading tone. "Abuelita Sophia makes the most amazing paella, and Tía Maria always has the juiciest oranges in her garden. Plus, it'll be a nice break from Grimmauld Place."
Sirius frowned, crossing his arms over his chest. "As tempting as that sounds, Prongs, I can't. I've got some things I need to take care of this summer," He didn't elaborate further, but his friends knew that he was referring to his strained relationship with his family and the unpleasant memories associated with Grimmauld Place.", besides I can't leave my little Reggie alone."
The two boys nodded.
"You could at least visit us for a bit when we come back? There is always the traditional week before school when we all meet at my house. You are invited, as always!" James said.
"I see what I can do." Sirius answered and turned around erasing his happy expression. He wanted to do anything but come back to the Grimmauld Place.
Few moments later Pete stuck out his head from the bathroom. "It's free guys."
"Finally." Remus sighed, annoyed, and dropped whatever he was doing to go use the bathroom.
"Where are my socks?" Pete looked around the room confused.
"They decided to attack Remus." James explained.
"Haha, very funny, Prongs." Pete rolled his eyes and grabbed his socks off the ground.
As the boys shared their last moments of the school together and finished packing, Lily entered their room. "It's so unfair, guys!" she complained.
Her sudden appearance made the boys curious "What's wrong Lily?" asked James.
"Marlene and Mary are going to Egypt! Without me! Egypt of all places! I wish I could go with them! I AM so jealous!" Lily threw herself at Remus's bed.
"You could come with us to Spain if you want Lily." Offered James.
"No, I'm fine. I promised my grandma and grandpa I would spend the summer with them on the farm. I just home my sister comes as well." Lily sighed.
"I'm pretty sure that is going to be fun," said Remus as he returned from the bathroom. "but now I would appreciate if you left my bed." his tone was the most unpleasant Lily ever heard him use.
"WOW! What's with him today!" Lily put her hands up addressing Pete and James, who just shrugged their shoulders. "Fine I am leaving." she span on her heel and left the door.
"Rude." spat James at Remus and acted to be offended by his friend's behavior.
"Get used to it." Remus spat back.
James chuckled at the banter between Remus and Lily, knowing that deep down they were good friends. He then turned to Sirius, who seemed lost in thought.
"Padfoot, are you okay?" James asked, putting a hand on his friend's shoulder.
Sirius snapped out of his reverie and forced a smile. "Yeah, I'm fine," he said, although his eyes betrayed his true feelings...
When it was the time for students to board the train Sirius decided to stay behind and take Remus aside.
"Hey Moony," he started. "I know either of us have the best day today, but I want to show you something." Sirius began to undress, he unbuttoned his shirt and Remus couldn't help but stare.
"What are you doing Sirius." Remus panicked.
"It's fine trust me don't worry," Sirius soothed his friend. "it took me the full year to master it. So I'm sorry I didn't get to show or help you earlier. But next year. During your transformations..."
Remus interruped him. "W-what are you talking about Sirius?" he said confused.
"... let me finish." Sirius continued "... I have read some books from the forbidden section. And I found out, that werewolves don't usually attack Animagi in their animal form, so naturally,"
"... no you didn't." Remus stared at him in disbelieve.
"OH, yes I did." Sirius smirked. Taking a deep breath, Sirius closed his eyes and whispered the incantation. A surge of magic coursed through his body, and he felt his bones rearranging, his body changing shape. He opened his eyes and found himself standing on all fours, covered in sleek black fur. He had successfully transformed into a large black dog, resembling a majestic and powerful Grim. With a wag of his tail he stepped closer to Remus. Jaw of his friend was on the floor.
"W-w-ow, Sirius. W-wh-- How?" he managed to stutter out. "I mean I know they taught us how in our 3rd year, but McGonnagal said it takes years to master it!" Remus didn't get an answer from Sirius. The black dog just was just breathing heavily with it's tounge stuck out. Remus knelt down and Sirius came towards him. If Remus didn't know the dog was his friend he would have been positively terrified. Sirius look menacing. Remus held out his hand and Sirius allowed himself to get pet. A wave of relief and peace come over Remus when he touched his friends fur.
"You would have been a great therapy dog, Sirius." Sirius gave him his paw, signaling to Remus he wants more scratches. Remus was still in shock. He couldn't believe he was now snuggling his friend Sirius, who is a dog. "Is this real?"
"GUYS WHERE ARE YOU, COME DOWN OR WE WILL LEAVE WITHOUT YOU." The voice came from down the stairs, it belonged to Pete.
"WE ARE COMING!" Screamed Remus back as Sirius changed back.
"Just letting you know Moony," Sirius grinned as wide as he could, rubbing his ears. "no screaming while I'm in dog form. My ears hurt like hell."
"C'mere you rascal." Sirius never heard Remus's accent get so strong as it did then. Remus pulled him into a hug so sincere it made him tear up. "I fuckin' lov ya, mate." Remus mumbled into Sirius's shoulder. "Promise me, you'll come back back to Hogwarts alright." urged Remus.
"I will, I promise Moony." Sirius returned the hug as tightly as he could.
"GUYS!" screamed Pete again
"A'right. We should probably go," laughed Remus nervously avoiding eye-contact handing Sirius his clothes back.
"Ehm, yes, yes- right, totally- -" agreed Sirius, both of them secretly wishing the moment lasted a bit longer.
