Chapter 2
Little did they know Sirius was lying when he promised to come back to Hogwarts alright. He made a promise that he was wishing to keep, however breaking it was inevitable, not by his choice. It was his mother that broke the promise first. Second they stepped off the train in London, someone grabbed Sirius's hand and teleported away. It was his mother, no need to say it didn't surprise him. He was just disappointed he couldn't say goodbye.
First thing that came was a lecture, Sirius was used to them at this point, the never-ending coming of howlers in Hogwarts didn't even faze him, so screaming face to face, wasn't much of a change. He was numb. He had been looking forward to returning to Hogwarts, to be with his friends.
Sirius stood in his childhood home, staring at his mother as she unleashed her wrath upon him. Her voice was piercing, her words like venom. She accused him of being a disgrace to the family, of tarnishing the Black name. Sirius knew better than to engage in an argument with her. He had learned long ago that logic and reason were futile against her blind fanaticism for pure-blood ideology.
After what felt like an eternity, his mother finally stopped yelling. She glared at him with disdain, her eyes filled with disappointment and anger. "You will not be returning to that cesspool of filth and mudbloods," she spat. "I will not allow it. You will stay here and learn what it means to be a true Black."
Sirius clenched his fists, his jaw set in determination. She cannot do this to him. He won't let her. "No-" A simple 'no' was all the managed to say before he couldn't move.
The next thing Sirius knew, he was lying on the ground, his body wracked with pain, like he was used to. His mother stood over him, her face twisted with the same expression of rage as she always had. All Sirius could do was scream. Scream in agony and pain, hoping it would stop, as soon as possible, but it takes hours It always felt like hours.
So there he was, again, at the mercy of his mother, trying to not lose his sanity.
"You will stay here and learn what it means to be a true Black." She repeated herself.
There was no way in hell.
And so an idea was born. He will just leave. Leave and never come back.
I'm so sorry Reggie.
The ground was cold, maybe... no he can't.
I have to say goodbye, at least to Reggie.
When the younger brother came home and Sirius was still on the ground. He was sitting leaning against the wall as he signaled to Reggie to come to him. He didn't trust his legs to hold him up.
"Can you help me up?" Regulus silently obeyed and walk him to his room. "I'm leaving, I don't know where I'm going. But I can't stay here."
"What?" Regulus said surprised. "Nonononono- please you can't leave." Regulus panicked. "Please, you can't leave me alone here. Please Sirius." the boy urged.
"You can go with me, Reg, if you want. Come with me."
"NO! ARE YOU MAD!" Regulus resisted. "What if she finds out." he whispered.
"She won't care." Sirius shook his head. "Not about me. I am not honoring the legacy properly. I am a disappointment, remember? I am not a Slytherin.... that's where it all went wrong..." he laughed in desperation.
The brothers look at each other with understanding. Regulus nodded. "I understand." They shared a moment of silence. "But promise me... promise, you will come back, at least for a day. I will get your stuff for you, before we go to Hogwarts. At least one day."
"I will. I promise."
Sirius knew this was a promise he could keep.
