Baratie part 12

*Sanji sits on his side of the rock.*
Sanji: Screw you, gramps. I’m not saying anything if I see a ship. I’ll be fine. I have 5 whole days worth of food. We’ll definitely see a ship or 2 before I run out. Just to be safe, I divide it for 20 days. That’s more than enough time to get rescued. That’s one less meal a day, but the depressions of this rock are filled with rain water. I guess I gotta just sit here and wait. I’ll make it through this, no problem.

*A day later*
Sanji: Not a ship in sight. That’s not a problem. It will only be a few more days. Maybe I’ll just eat a little more… No! I divided the food into 20 days worth of food and this is only the first day!

*Day 5*
Sanji: All this rain is gonna make it hard to see a ship.
*But Sanji sees a ship through the heavy storm.*
Sanji: A ship! Hey, help! I gotta build a fire!
*Sanji tries to build a fire with scraps of wood, but they’re too wet and the ship doesn’t see him.*
Sanji: Wait! Don’t go! I’m here! Please don’t go!

*Day 25*
Sanji: This is it. My last piece of bread has gone moldy.
*Sanji decides to eat, but he accidently drops it and falls into the water.*
Sanji: No! My last piece of bread…

*70 days have passed and no ship has come to rescue Sanji and Zeff.*
Sanji: I wonder if the geezer’s dead yet?
*Sanji looks on the other side of the rock and sees Zeff sitting still.*
Sanji: He’s alive. And he’s still got food! A lot of food! So much! There’s so much left!
*Sanji grabs a knife.*
Sanji: I’ve got to get that food. It’s not fair that he has so much more than me. Besides, this is all his fault.
*Sanji tries to sneak behind him, but Zeff hears him.*
Zeff: What are you doing here, you brat? Are you here because you saw a ship?
Sanji: I came over here to steal your food, old man! If you want to kill mr for it, go ahead! Soon enough I’ll starve so it makes no difference to me!
Zeff:…
*Sanji cuts open the bag but only to find it’s filled with treasure and not food.*
Zeff: Didn’t I tell you not to come over here unless you saw a ship?
Sanji: Why? Why is it full of treasure?
Zeff: Strange, isn’t it? We have all this money yet we’re going to starve.
Sanji: It’s only treasure. It’s worthless. What about the food?! You said you needed more food! How did you survive?!
*Sanji sees that his left right leg is gone.*
Sanji: You… ate your own foot?!
Zeff: That’s right.
Sanji: You gave me all the food?!
Zeff: I did.
Sanji: But without your foot, you can’t be a pirate anymore! You old fool, why did you help me?! It doesn’t make sense to sacrifice so much for me! Why?! Tell me?!
Zeff: Because for my entire life, I’ve had the same dream as you.
Sanji: The All Blue… But your men said it doesn’t exist.
Zeff: Of course it does. Never mind them. When the time comes, head to the sea. We couldn’t find it in a year’s time. But what I saw out there made me believe in the All Blue. But now I’ve lost my crew I would have sailed with there. I don’t feel like being a pirate without them. They didn’t believe in the All Blue, but they were good hearted fools. They were a good bunch…
*Zeff collapses.*
Sanji: Don’t die, old man! Don’t you dare give up!
Zeff: I wonder, how many men have lost their lives sailing the ocean? Knowing that it will soon be their grave? This isn’t my first time I’ve been hungry enough to look death in the eye. And my thoughts are the same each time. It is always my deepest wish that there would be a restaurant out in the middle of the sea.
Sanji: A restaurant?
Zeff: That’s right. I was thinking that if I make it out of this mess alive, I’d like to build a restaurant as my final purpose in life.
Sanji: Then I’ll help you do it! So don’t die!
Zeff: A weak little brat like you couldn’t be much good for anything.
Sanji: Then I’ll become strong! So die!

*Day 85, a ship finally sees them.*
Sailor 1: Hey look, there’s people on that rock! Just 2 lying there! I think they're still breathing!
Sailor 2: You know, a few months ago, I heard someone shouting on this rock on a stormy day.
Sailor 1: Is that true?!

*End flashback*
Sanji: You ate your own foot, leaving all the food for me… you saved my life.
*Sanji gets back up.*
Luffy: Sanji!
Morbius: Ate his foot?
Pearl: My surprise. How did you survive a direct hit?
Sanji: I won’t let you have this restaurant! And I won’t let you kill the old geezer either! That fool sacrificed himself to save a worthless boy. So I’ll defend him with my life and repay my debt to him!
Zeff: Repaying a debt?! Sanji, I don’t need you doing me any favors! I’m not so pathetic that I need you to protect me!
Sanji: Whom did the favor? If you hadn’t eaten your own foot for my sake, you’d never have to lose these fools.
Morbius: So Pirate Gordon Ramsey ate his own foot so Sanji wouldn’t starve to death?
Chef 1: That must be why he’s so protective of this place.
Patty: He was paying Chef back.
Carne: To think, those 2 fight like cats and dogs have such a bond?
Gin: Sanji, why are you standing? Stay down.
Sanji: Afraid I can’t do that. It’s a little too much like giving up.
