Secret SHIELD
Two days later I head out to go to work, well more or less to meet up with the others to see how much they knew of what I had been learning over the last few days.
Pulling into the underground base I parked and made my way to the entrance.
Now I understood why mom, Peggy, and the others were so quiet about meeting here because not all of S.H.I.E.L.D knew so Hydra didn't find out.
Walking in I saw the others were already there and walked over to them. There were ten of us, five that were the grandkids of the original members and then me, then four others who came in later or were grandkids or kids of later Howling Commandos. For the most part, all of us were close and the six of us originals have known each other most of our lives.
David was talking to Trip and Sam while Kara, and Bells were talking to each other.
"Hi Beks"
"Hi, Bells, Kara, Sam, Trip, and David. Where are the others?"
"Off on a mission, hopefully, that is alright," Kara answered me.
"Of course, I wanted to talk to all of you first and get your thoughts before we brought it up to the others as well. How much does everyone know about how secret all of this part is?"
"Well, I think we were all always told that this was a special section of SHIELD and that we were not to talk about it with anyone not cleared to know. That is why we were all at level 11 because we knew things others are not meant to know." David said to which the others agreed.
"Well, the other day after the battle I found a video my grandfather made for me and in it, he talked about HYDRA and how they were in SHIELD and that is why they created level 11 so they could watch them. Though he was worried that they were after him. Which now makes the accident look more as if it was planned and maybe even my mom's as well. She took over running this from Howard and Peggy and we all know that the two of them didn't trust just anything to chance. You know that they knew something was up."
"No, your right grandma Peggy always is nervous if I bring up things about SHIELD or HYDRA now that she is somewhere she doesn't know if anyone is listening that should not be." Bell's said
"Bell's grams was a spy and always looking over her shoulder maybe she just is different now because she is not able to remember like she use to," Sam told her.
"No, Bell's is correct. Every time I have gone to see Peggy she is nervous about something like she is waiting for something to happen and she gives me riddles to figure things out.
That is how I found the tape and a lot of other info that I need to share with all of you. She gave me the clue while my dad was missing before becoming Iron Man and I didn't figure it out until right before the battle in New York. She is afraid of something and I have a strong feeling that it has something to do with HYDRA and whatever they may be up to."
"So what do we do?" Tripp spoke up.
"Well I will start to bring in the info I found from them and you all help me go through it all. See if you can see things I have missed. I don't know if there is a pattern or what but I know something is not right and I also know the longer this takes to figure out the more people are in danger. I don't know who all we will be able to trust but I know for sure HYDRA is in SHIELD and it is our job to make sure that we take care of it and get rid of HYDRA once and for all because I am so sick of there games and them thinking they can do what they want."
"So who do we trust then?"
"I don't know for sure. I know anyone working here is in the clear because only level 11s know and they are all devoted to SHIELD. So that gives us fifty of them plus the six of us and the other four so that right there gives us at least 60 people. I'm sure when the time is right we can bring in the Avengers and Fury and Maria. I know we could trust Phil but he's gone now. I'm sure there are plenty of agents that are good but we need to figure out who and how deep this might all go."
"So we will be pulling double spy then?"
"For now yes, we need to be on guard and pay attention to everything and everyone. The Six of us have access to more than any other agent and we need to make sure that we are doing things to help keep people safe. We signed up to be the SHIELD for the world and for those we work with. Now we need to figure out who had turned and when we do we don't let them know we know. We watch and we wait so that they can't slip back into the shadows. We take them down once and for all."
"We are all with you," David said as we looked around at each other.
"I am glad that I have people I trust completely to have my back."
We all agreed to that.
"For the moment let's try and get some work done and we will come up with a plan to handle all of this as well."
We parted ways and got busy doing what each of us needed to do today.
Walking down the hall to head out I stopped at an office door that was closed and stared for a moment before walking in. It had been Howards and Peggy's office and then my mom had used it. It was mine if I wanted to use it but I had not been in this office since mom had passed. Slowly I pushed open the door and went in.
On the wall were all kinds of pictures. Steve before the serum, the original Howling Commandos, pictures of them all through the years, the picture of me with them that also hung at the club. One with me, Peggy, and Howard. Then the one mom added of me, her, and dad before she had passed.
"I miss all of you so much, I hope I am making you proud of me." I stood looking at the pictures a few moments longer when I heard someone come in.
"First time you have been in here," David said to me, turning around I looked at him.
"Truth is, I was not sure if I could handle it. All the reminders of them and now most of them are gone. Peggy is the last one. Well now Steve is back but that is different. Even the club somehow feels different."
"Like the secret room."
"You know I knew about all of the secrets of all of this and everything but I never knew about that room. I came here so many times with them over the years and knew that this was S.H.I.E.L.D. but I had no idea it was that big of a secret and the rest of the world didn't know about it. Not until I found that room. Now I just keep wondering about all of the other secrets they kept from all of us."
"Really who knows, I know there are things that they kept here for a reason because not as many people knew about this part. People who work here you never see in the rest of it because they made sure people who worked in this part were completely loyal and they trusted."
"Do you think we are doing the right things that they would be proud of all we have done?"
"I know they would, all of us have been learning little by little and they kept secrets to keep us safe and now we are learning them all."
"I know some of them I could have gone my whole life not knowing."
"I know Rebekah but you are so strong and amazing, don't forget that, and don't let anyone take it away from you."
"Never, thanks for always being here for me."
"That is the easy part, Plus the originals were very fond of you. They would not take lightly to me not looking out for you and being here for you. You had all of them wrapped around your finger from the very beginning."
"Well if that is what you think, I am glad that they all stayed friends after everything because it has led me to all of you."
"All of us are as well."
"Do you think that we can do this and figure it all out?"
"I do, plus all of us working together on this. It kind of feels like we are doing it for them, I'm glad they decided to continue with the Howling Commandos. It feels like they are with us to finish this all once and for all."
"I get what you mean I feel the same way at times. Like when I am here or at the club, it's almost like at times I feel like they are right there watching out for us and pushing us in the right directions. You know I sat at the bar forever trying to figure out where the little key went and then just like magic I had a memory from when I was younger and I saw them in the room. I had wanted to know so bad then what was in that room but when I was finally able to I didn't even remember about that day at first."
"It's funny sometimes how things we don't even think about after they happen or don't remember about for years come back around and become something so important and tie things together in ways we never would have thought about. How sometimes the smallest things are the biggest clues that we need to figure everything else out."
" I miss this, I got so busy with everything that I forgot how nice it was to bounce ideas and thoughts off of you. You always help me to see things in a different light than what I did before talking to you."
"Well, that is what I am here for, YOU are not alone and we are all here for you. We have your back and I know the last few days have probably brought up a lot of things that have been hard for you and I know how close you and Phil were and I am so sorry Rebekah. I can't even imagine how you feel about it all right now. But If you need anything at all we are all here for you and will help and be there in any way that we can because we love you, you are our family just like we are yours."
"Thanks, I am glad that I have all of you. I love you."
"Love you too sis." He pulled me into one of those sweet big brother bear hugs and I always felt safe with him around. There was a knock on the door.
"You two we have something," Kara said popping her head in.
"We are coming," I told her as I pulled back from David and the two of us followed Kara back to all of the others who were waiting for us.
"What do you have?" I asked as we walked in.
"I'm thinking a lead on Hydra and one of their old basses that just popped back up."
"So do you think that the six of us can handle checking it out?" I asked them all looking around.
They all agreed and I made sure there were no objections to it.
"Well, let's make a plan then." We spent some time laying out a plan and worked out the details before climbing on a quin jet.
I was up flying with Trip.
"Are you alright?"
"I'm fine Tripp just a lot going on anymore and it is hard to keep up with everything."
"Is that all?"
"When did you get to be the one that could read every one?"
"I like to keep it real, girl."
"Don't ever change, you make this easier."
"Is this about Coulson? We all understand and you are allowed to greave him. You were so close to him and he was important to you. Plus you just lost him a few days ago and you are already back, it is alright to take some time we all would understand."
"I know but you need me and right now focusing on this is so much easier the focusing on that because I know if I focus on it I will fall apart. Did you know I had two godfathers? Dad picked Rhodey of course and mom picked Phil. He has been in my life so long as a friend and protector. We use to hang out while my mom was busy with work and I was with her. I even went on a few undercover missions with Phil and May a couple of times which were my favorite.
I remember one time we were undercover as a family who had just moved into a neighborhood which worked out because mom was on a mission and dad was doing some kind of something in another country and my mom was fine with it. Not a dangerous mission but my mom knew they would keep me safe. They were my godparents in my mom's eyes which I loved because I loved them both.
One day while we were undercover we went to the park and played for hours and then got ice cream and it was so magical. It was like having a real family. As much as I love my parents having them with me and being out as a family meant so much to me and made me so very happy. When that mission happened with May and she pulled away from everyone it broke my heart. Because I loved her so much I still do, she is family to me. I have no idea what losing Phil will do to her because they were so very close and I miss how things used to be. I don't know if I can handle losing anyone else I love. I have lost so much already, I don't know how to lose more without completely losing myself."
"You know that you have all of us and everyone else here for you. So many people love you Bek's and want what is going to make you happy. I know at this moment everything feels as if it is all falling apart around you but I promise you that things have a way of working out and you will find happiness that I am sure of. Because if anyone deserves some happiness at this point it is you. I want you to be happy and to be able to always show everyone the amazing, wonderful person you are because Rebekah you truly are one of a kind, Don't ever forget that."
"Thanks, Trip, and thank you for always being there for me no matter what is going on in the world I know I always have you to have my back."
"Anything for one of my angels, girl."
"You know I love how that has taken on a life of its own." We three girls had become Trip's Angels which started as a joke but was now a thing because David got jealous.
"Anything to get under his skin and drive him crazy, you know how I roll girl."
"Sometimes you are so much but you are lucky all of us girls love you."
"Don't I know it." We fell into a comfortable silence as we continued our flight and prepared for the mission ahead of us.
Once we got to the area we all went over our plan one more time and then made our way into the base.
I could tell they were just getting it up and running because there were not too many people and the guard that was there was easy for us to take down.
Making our way into the command area we started to go through the data we could find and everything they had. We made copies of the information before setting a small device that would fry everything they had but blow up the base. Getting everyone out we quickly hurried to the quin jet before taking off and watching from a distance back as it blew up.
"Do you think the rest of SHIELD would be mad to know we blew it up?" Kara asked.
"Well that is what they use to do and I don't like that SHIELD has made such a habit of holding on to things that we should not and then messing with them. Steve told Fury they should have left the tesseract in the ocean and I agree. Nothing good had come from it or will come from it at all. Some things are better left alone instead of pretending that you know what you are doing and making everything worse and more dangerous in the long run. As we take out Hydra once and for all, I also want to make SHIELD more open and honest with its agents. I want there not to be all the secrets that we have now. It's too much to try and keep everyone in the dark about everything. That is how Hydra has been able to work its way in so deep. We need to run SHIELD better, we need to be better. "
"That's what we will work on then. We won't stop until we take them all down, and fix all that they have messed up." David said.
"We should get out of here before anyone comes through." Bell's said to us.
"On it girl," Trip said and we started our way home.
"You know what we should do tonight? Go to the club and celebrate as they did before us." David said to us.
"It has been a while since we have done that," Sam responded.
"Are we going to actually have fun, Dancing and all?" Kara asked the guys. To which both Bells and I laughed.
"I mean it has been a while you know how much they all loved to dance and well sometimes you guys don't like to dance as much. So are we also dancing?"
"Well, I think we can do this once for you ladies."
"So very noble of you David. I guess we are going to the club and going to dance the night away."
We were all in agreement and Trip and I made our way back to the base as we spent the rest of the flight discussing Hydra and the best way that we would be able to take them all down once and for all.
I know it would be hard but I also knew I could get through anything with the people I had on my side. My family.
Because if all of this had taught me anything it was that family can be whoever you choose and I would choose the family I had at any time.
I was not about to let any of them down. That I was sure of.
