New Problems
For the next little while, I divided my time as much as I could with work and family but spent a lot of time with Steve. We would go to all of our favorite places, I was teaching him, and him teaching me. Plus we both had stories we shared with one another. I had a lot more fun than I thought I would and not after too long realized I was falling for him. But also knew that he loved Peggy and it would never work for us. So I would forever be a friend, the granddaughter of one of his friends.
I was working on things for dad when my phone started to ring. Looking I saw it was Phil.
"Hi Phil, can I call you back in a little."
"Rebekah"
"What happened?"
"Agent Barton has been compromised."
"Where do you need me?"
"We are going forward with Fury's plan for The Avengers. Can you meet us at the water base?"
"I will be there. Do I need to get anyone?"
"It's all being handled."
"I will see you then." I got off the phone with him and headed out.
Once I got out I saw an agent waiting for me and he took me to meet the others.
At the base, I went to the command room and saw I was the first one. Fury was looking over things.
"How bad?"
"Bad, Loki is here."
"As in Thor's brother, Why?"
"The tesseract."
"Of course, that is what he wants, it is what everyone wants."
"We need to get it back."
"He has it?"
"Along with some agents, including Barton."
"We can't let anything happen to him, he has to make it home."
"We will do all we can."
"Are the others here?"
"They should be coming at any moment." They started to get things for us to go up and I stood back watching, that is when I saw them walk in.
"Hi Nat"
"Hi sweets" She responded before hugging me.
"We will get him back."
"I know, we always do." She walked to check things out and I slowly made my way to Steve.
"What do you think?"
"Not what I expected."
"Nothing ever is with them, you will see."
"They are bringing in everyone for this?"
"You have no idea how big this is about to get."
We all walked around and I listened to them talking about what to do. Before Nat left with Bruce.
I tried to help work on the tracking before we got a hit on Loki. I followed the others to the jet.
"You're coming?" Steve asked me.
"This is personal and I don't like waiting on the sidelines. Plus I know how to help fly this thing."
"Rebekah is actually pretty amazing at a lot of things. You will see Captain."
We all got on the Jet and headed off. The ride was not too long and really was not that bad. I was in the back setting by Steve looking things over on the tablet.
"So you have always known about all of this."
"I was born into S.H.I.E.L.D. I guess that is what happens when your mom works for them and your grandfather helped start it."
"None of this is ever too much for you?"
"All the time, but I know I can't just hide from it. I have the ability to help people and can't turn my back on them."
"You truly are something else."
"Thanks, I think."
"Definitely a compliment." The rest of the ride is not too bad and we let Steve off to go to Loki while I wait in the jet with Nat. I watch them fight for a moment before Shoot to thrill starts to play and dad shows up.
"Always has to make an entrance." Once dad showed up we were able to get Loki and get him on the jet. He was buckled in the back and I was watching as Dad and Steve were talking.
I sat down next to him.
"So are you the quiet brother, or are you both quiet when S.H.I.E.L.D has you?" He looked at me and I smiled.
"I was in New Mexico, I met Thor. I know what you did, saw it first hand."
He continued to stare at me.
"You know I have been known to talk a lot, I can keep talking until we get there or you can start to talk."
"Rebekah, what are you doing?"
"What I have been trained to do."
"Well, I need you to go set up by Agent Romanoff."
"Her name is Nat, and I'm a big girl. I know what I am doing." I told him as I stood up.
"Now Rebekah."
"You are suffocating. You know I am really good at getting people to talk. I am one of the best even ask Nat. I get in trouble all the time because I don't do what they say and I always get people to talk."
"They are not your father now go."
"Fine, you try then, I would love to see you do better." I went and sat behind Nat on the ground and sighed.
"Don't worry, I know you could do it."
"Thanks, Nat." We fly for a little longer while Nat is talking to Fury and dad and Steve are back to talking.
"Dad, be nice." They keep talking when we get some lightning.
"What's the matter? Are you scared of a little Lightning?"
"I'm not overly fond of what follows."
"O boy, things are about to go down," I tell Nat just as we feel something hit the jet. Dad and Steve grab their mask to put on and dad opens the back before Thor comes in. He throws dad back and grabs Loki before going off.
"Wait" I called but they were gone.
The others start to talk, and dad goes to go after them.
"That is Thor, he's a good guy I have met him." Dad looks at me before taking off. Nat tells Steve to wait and he still jumps out.
"Guys really don't listen, do they?
"Best if you learn now sweets."
"I met Thor in Mexico with Clint. He really is a good guy."
"If you say so then it is true." We continue on our path waiting to hear from the others.
After some time had passed we got the guys and were back on our way.
"Hello, Thor."
"Lady Rebekah, It is lovely to see you again." I smiled before giving him a hug.
"You as well just wish it was under different circumstances."
"Yes, I as well. I trust you have been well."
"I have, and you?"
"Until now, yes."
"How do you know my daughter?
"Your daughter?"
"I'm his daughter, I know Thor because I met him when I helped Phil with that case in Mexico. You know the time when you were dying and didn't tell me."
"Well of course I do, you bring it up all the time."
"I have earned that right."
"It was not that bad."
"Yes it was, you were out of control. You were blasting watermelon. Nat, it was bad right?'
"I'M on Rebekah's side, you were a little out of control."
"You are on her side because everyone at S.H.I.E.L.D is wrapped around her finger, especially you. Maybe Coulson and Fury."
"Not everyone, dad."
"Just a lot of people. Rebekah is easy to love because she has so much love to give to everyone."
"Thanks, Nat, even though not all of it is true."
"From what I understand you have a lot of people who truly care for you," Steve added.
"How do you know my daughter?"
"I have been helping him."
"I don't like it."
"Never said you had to." We were all quiet after that and I was relieved once we got back to the base.
I walked in with the others and was set at the table next to Nat. We watched Fury talk to Loki before he left.
The others started to talk around the table and I sat back listening to them. Dad came in and started to talk to them as well. My mind started to wander off when Steve brought up HYDRA weapons and I remembered I had yet to go back by the club and look at the picture. Now that I thought about it though I had a feeling there was something bigger that I was missing. I had a feeling that if I did not figure it out bad things were going to happen.
I came back into the conversation as Dad and Bruce walked out. Steve left not too long after and then Nat before I was alone at the table. Deciding to figure things out I walked off. Not sure what I was looking for I made my way down to the lower level only to see Steve trying to get into a door.
"I could open that for you if you would like."
"You know how to get it?"
"Well, my code won't work but I know an override code that won't tip them off."
"Alright" he moved back and I opened the door with the code before we walked in.
"Have you ever been in here?"
"Never have had a reason to." We walked in and when we saw agents he looked at me and silently asked me to come with him. I knotted and he grabbed me before jumping up and pulling us onto the bridge.
"Are you alright?" He asked, whispering.
"I'm fine thank you." We walked around trying to find any kind of answers.
Finding a metal box he opened it only to see weapons.
"Are these what I think they are?"
"HYDRA weapons, yes."
"There is more going on then?"
"Come on, let's go." He grabbed one and then pulled me out making sure we were not caught on our way back up.
Walking into the room I saw that Fury was now in there with them. They all started to talk before Nat and Thor came in as well.
The talking started to turn to Arguing and I watched the scepter start to glow more than it was before.
"Guys stop." It fell on deaf ears though because they all continued to argue. When Banner picked up the scepter dad pushed me behind him as I was closest to him now.
Steve told him to put it down then a computer started to beep. He put it down and walked over to the computer. They were talking and then dad and Steve started to fight again.
"Stop" they both looked at me for a second before there was an explosion. We were all thrown and I was pretty sure I hit my head pretty hard because the room was spinning.
"Rebekah?"
"I'm fine, go." I sat there for a moment listening to everyone and trying to get the room to stop spinning.
"Are you alright?" Fury asked before helping me up.
"I will be fine, go, they will need you." He takes off and I lean against a table that was still standing. I was starting to feel sick but knew I needed to help.
Slowly making my way out I held onto the walls and started to walk out. Trying to focus was getting harder and people were running around. There was chaos everywhere and the room was still spinning around me. My vision started to fade and I knew something was wrong with me.
I heard them talk about the ones on board that was dressed as agents and so many things happening around me. Before we started to tip and it was not helping me.
"Fury"
"Rebekah, where are you?"
"I'm not sure, I think I was wrong."
"What do you mean? Rebekah?" I was not able to answer because everything went black.
I woke up in one of the med bays and set up.
"Miss. Stark, you should really rest."
"Do I have a Concussion?"
"No, but you should still take it easy."
"I will be fine thanks." I made my way out and ran into dad.
"You're alright, what about everyone else?"
"Sweetie."
"What happened?"
"Collulson didn't make it."
"No, dad, no, he's fine he has to be fine. He has to be alright, he promised he would stay."
"I know sweetie." I fell into dad's arms and let him hold me while the tears kept streaming down my face.
All the time I had spent with Phil started to flash through my head. The times when I was little and he would get me snacks while mom was busy. When I wouldn't listen but he could never stay mad at me too long. How he was always just there whenever I needed him.
I let the tears fall for yet another person I lost because of all of this.
He held me a little longer until I was able to stop crying and reassure him I would be alright before he went off to do something else.
I walked down to find Fury.
"He's really gone then?"
"I'm sorry, I know how close you were."
"Why did you keep it from me?"
"What?"
"The things you were doing, do you know how it looks? I have put my trust in you and you have to keep secrets from me. That's not fair, you promised after mom you would not keep secrets from me."
"I didn't want you to worry. You should be able to be a kid."
"Fury, I'm almost 21. In a few days, I will be, you all need to stop treating me like a kid."
With that, I leave and go to check on Clint and Nat.
I find them talking in another med bay room.
"Mind if I join?"
"Come in, How are you feeling?"
"I'm alright, no concussion."
"Rebekah, I'm so sorry"
"Clint, it is fine. It's not your fault and I'm not mad at you at all."
"I would never be able to live with you being hurt because of me.
"Well, all of this is because of Loki. Now we all need to work together and find him so that we can stop him and save everyone."
Clint went to the bathroom and Nat and I waited. Steve walked in telling us it was time to go and asking if we could fly one of the jets.
Clint walked out.
"I can."
"You got a suit?"
"Ya"
"Then suit up." He walked away and the rest of us walked out.
"Are you sure you want to come with us?"
"Yes Nat, I can do this."
"You have never done anything like this before."
"None of us have."
"Fair point." We got on the Jet and after we got the other agent off we took off following dad.
