Peggy Carter

The following days, weeks, and months we spent busy with work and trying to make sure everything was running smoothly. I had decided that it was a good time to go see Peggy. It had been a little while since the last time I saw her and I missed her. When I was little I had always spent so much time with her. So the last little while seeing someone that was always so strong and capable, slowly getting older and unable to do things that I had watched her do so many times broke my heart. It was even harder watching her slowly forget things that used to be the things she told me.

I knew that she would not always be around but it still didn't make it easier knowing she would one day leave this life and I knew my life would be very different without her. I walked to her room after being told she was having a good day. I knocked on her door and she looked up. Once she saw me she started to smile.

"There is my favorite girl."

"Peggy, I have missed you." I walked over and gave her a hug.

"I have missed you, my dear. Look how beautiful you are, growing up into a wonderful lady."

"Thank you, Peggy. I just need to head to S.H.I.E.L.D at 4. Work is never done after all."

"Don't worry, I will make sure you are there. We have at least an hour together."

"I wish we had more time though but I'm always running from one place to the next anymore."

"You should find time for yourself."

"If only it would work out like that."

"How old are you now?"

"Twenty"

"I remember that time, I can't believe it has been that long since we lost Howard and Maria. So happy things though, are you seeing anyone?"

"No, I guess there is no guy here for me."

"There is someone out there for everyone. Even I found love. I think loving Steve helped me with that."

"What do you mean?"

"Steve helped me see myself. He helped me to be better. After he was gone I didn't think I would find love but I did and I was very happy in my life."

"Well, I'm glad you found your love. I don't know if there is love for me though. Everyone now likes me so they can get close to dad. Before the world knew he was my dad, no one liked me."

"I'm no one, the others are no one?"

"You know what I mean. I have no friends my age. No one outside of Shield or people other than I work with. The people I grew up around. The school was miserable because I had no friends at school. At the time everyone thought my dad was not around."

"You will find your people, I have faith in you."

"Thank you, Peggy."

"You know your grandfather was probably one of my close friends. I think I was one of his as well. I remember when he found out about you he came to talk to me.

'Howard was pacing about in front of Peggy in the office.
"I just can't believe in Peg's, I have always told him to be careful."

"You like Lilly thought. We all Like her, she is good for him, and this baby will be good for them. I know that as soon as the baby is here you will be wrapped around the little finger of the baby. So what is really the problem?"

"Peggy, how am I supposed to be a grandfather? I'm not even that good of a father."

"Howard, you may not be perfect but you love Tony. I know you don't always see eye to eye. What if this is all happening for a reason. This baby could bring you all closer together. You and Tony could bond over this baby."

"I guess you are right."

"I'm always right Howard."

"It might be fun having a little Stark around again. To be a grandfather, maybe he will be just like his dad and granddad."

"Well, then we will hope for everyone that it is a girl and she takes after her mom."

"Lilly is amazing so a granddaughter like her would be pretty amazing as well."

"This is good Howard, I promise."

With that Peggy and Howard hugged.'

"I didn't know that."

"No one knew, Howard and I were always close friends, after all, we had gone through together and we trusted each other with things like that."

"You two really were best friends."

"We were, you know I was the first person he called when you were born."

'Peggy picked up the ringing phone seeing that it was a little after 1 am.

"Hello"

"Peggy, I have a granddaughter."

"Howard"

"Yes, she was born at 12:05 this morning. She's beautiful Peggy."

"They are both doing alright?"

"Yes, mother and daughter are doing great."

"What's her name?"

"Rebekah"

"That's beautiful."

"She's so amazing Peggy, I can't wait for you to meet her. I know you will love her."

"I know I will as well."

"I will let you get back to sleep. I just wanted you to be the first to know."

"Thank you, Howard. Tell them congratulations for me."

"I will. Talk to you later Peg's, Goodbye."

"Goodbye Howard." With a smile, she went back to bed.'

"I was also the first one to meet you after you were born."

'Peggy was in the office waiting for Howard to get there.

"Sorry, I forgot what it was like having a baby with you."

"It's fine Howard, where are the others?"

"Lilly and Tony are coming, they just got stopped to talk to people and Maria is getting more baby things. She likes having a granddaughter to spoil."

"Of course, she would, Now are you going to introduce me to her?"

"Peggy I would like you to meet my granddaughter Rebekah Peggy Stark."

"They named her after me?"

"Lilly was set on the middle name. You know how she adores you."

"I am so honored that she would name her after me."

"Would you like to hold her?"

"I would love to," Peggy told him. Howard picked up the new baby and carefully passed her to his best friend.

"She is beautiful."

"That she is. Peg's can I ask you something."

"Of course Howard."

"It's more of a favor really."

"Whatever it is, you know I am always here to help."

"I know I have not been the best father to Tony and I want to do better by Rebekah. To be the grandfather she deserves. I want her to always be looked after and taken care of. So I need you to make me a promise really. That if anything were to happen to me you would look after her and keep her safe. Tony is older now and does not want me to look after him. Rebekah though is a baby and people will try to use her against us. I need to know that if things happen that she is safe and I trust you, I know that you would never let anything happen to her."

"Of course, I would watch out for her, but nothing is going to happen to you Howard."

"You know what I know Peggy, It's only a matter of time until it comes to light."

"I know Howard but we do need to find a way to make it better."

"I agree, we keep our families safe at all costs."

"Whatever it takes."

"So you will keep her safe if things happen."

"With my life." They hugged with Peggy still holding Rebekah.

"What do you think?" Lilly asked as she and Tony walked into the office.

"She truly is a beautiful baby, and I am honored you named her after me."

"It's only fitting we both love you and want her to love you as we do," Tony said.

"Well, I am sure she will, After all, we are family."

"That we are." Howard responded and they enjoyed time with the baby who stole all of their hearts.'

"Peggy, do you remember what you and grandpa were worried about?"

"You have the key to that one my dear one."

"What does that mean?"

"When the time is right you will understand everything. Just know that there are things I don't even know and Howard and I did all we could to keep you safe. You need to listen to your heart and always trust your gut. You're already an amazing person, if anyone can do what will need to be done it is you. We all believe in you. You know more than you think. You will know the best way to handle things so that you are able to help people and save things that we have worked so hard for."

"That doesn't really help me, Peggy."

"I know dear but it will. I promise, you know it is dangerous to know too much at once. You will figure it all out in time. That is the thing about you, you always figure it out just when it is the most important moment to do so. I know for a fact you will find a way to fix everything. The things Howard and I were not able to do. The things that no one else would be able to fix and make better. That is what you always do, you make things better when no one else is able to or can."

"I hope you are right."

"Dear, I always am."

"Peggy"

"Yes"

"Thank you for watching out for me all of these years. It really does mean a lot to me."

"It has been a pleasure, my dear. I do think you have to go through, you have your meeting soon." I looked at the clock to see it was a little after 3 and I had to get to Shield by 4.

"You're right, I will see you soon Peggy, love you."

"I love you, my dear. Take care and remember you hold all of the answers you seek."

"Thanks, any other clues you can give me?"

"So much of Stark in you."

"It was worth a try." I kissed her cheek promising to visit soon and headed out before getting in the car with Happy and heading off to Shield.

I spent the ride over to Shield thinking about all that Peggy told me.

Knowing she was trying to tell me something important but didn't want to say it for fear of someone else hearing. I thought back to what she had told me while dad was missing.

'The key to everything is in the love they hold for me.' I had thought about that so many times since she told me that and still had no idea what she could mean by it.

Plus how was I supposed to help people if I had no idea what I was doing? I could not help anyone if I had no idea how I was meant to help people.

"Rebekah."

"Yes, Happy."

"We are here, are you ready to go in or do you need a moment?"

"I'm fine, Happy, thank you. I will let you know if I need a ride after this."

"I will be waiting if you do."

"Thank you, Happy" He got out and opened my door.

"See you later."

"See you soon Rebekah."

I walked up to the building still trying to figure things out and really getting frustrated with it all because I had no idea what she meant.

With a sight, I walked in and it was a crazy sight. People running all over, talking over one another and everything. Confused, I went to meet Fury and Phil to see what was going on. On my way to the office, I saw them talking in the hall with someone else.

"Fury, what is going on here."

"Rebekah, have you not heard what was found?"

"No, that is why I asked."

"They found him."

"Who?"

"Come with us." Furry and Phil led me down some different halls and through a few different rooms before we came into the lab.

There were people running around doing something I was not sure about.

In the middle of the room, there was a man who looked to be on ice laying on a table.

"What is this?"

"That one thing your grandfather wanted."

"I don't understand."

"Look closer." I looked at the men on the table and that is when I saw it.

He was wearing the suit I had seen so many times at the museum. The one in all of the pictures I would look at growing up. The men that laid in front of me was the men I had wanted to meet all of my life. To see if all of the stories I had always been told were true.

"Is he alive?"

"Yes"

"How?"

"We don't know, we are trying to figure it out."

"Do you think it could be the serum?"

"Not sure yet, but it is a possibility."

I looked at the men that my grandfather tried so hard to find. The men who unknowingly changed my life in so many ways. A man I saw as a hero even if it drove dad crazy that I liked him so much. In front of me was

Captain America.
