It didn't matter until you said it did
It's been 4 days since the start of their fake relationship and things were going smoothly so far.
Tony and Stephen were sitting in the shared kitchen of the tower having a rather quiet and peaceful morning.
They had fallen into this fake relationship so easily that they pretend even when no one was around.
"Can you magic me an iced coffee?" Tony suddenly said.
Stephen looking up from the book he was reading with a raised eyebrow.
"Why of course, darling "
A Venti Starbucks cup appeared infront of Tony.
"How many ice cubes are in there?" The mechanic asked while careful pulling the cup towards himself.
"Why does it matter?" Stephen asked curiously.
"Well-No never mind-" Tony started but then an unexpected voice came from the doorway.
"He doesn't like even numbers."
Rogers said as he made his was further into the kitchen and pulled a chair opposite of where Stephen was sitting.
The couple didn't know what to say .They didn't know Steve was spying on them .It wasn't really spying because both of them were so invested in eachother that they failed to notice him standing there in the first place.
"Thank you, captain but I definitely wasn't asking you. "
Stephen said coldy.
Tony pulled at the bottom of the all too big shirt to be his that he was wearing.
"Not even a good morning- wow that's just cold. "
Steve seem to look Tony over for any traces left behind by Stephen from the night before.
Rogers just assumed something went down because of the shirt and the way Tony looked unusually relaxed.
"Oh forgive me- Good morning Tony you look freshly fucked." Steve said with a smirk on his face.
"Cry me a river!" Anthony didn't seemed bothered by the comment Steve made but the same definitely didn't go for Stephen.
"What about it ? If I want I can bend him over the table right now. I'd like to avoid that tho ,at least at these hours of the day."
Stark blushed deep red while the Captain was almost shaking with anger.
The Sorcerer seemed satisfied with the results he got . And went on like nothing happened.
"Do you want me to make the ice into a uneven number?"
"It doesn't matter really-" The genius started still stunned by what just came out of the other man's mouth.
"It didn't matter until you said it did."
It was sweet of Stephen . It was a nice sentiment ,fake or not. It made Tony's heart speed up and there were butterflies in his chest. A warm feeling over all . Or maybe it was a heart attack,go figure.
Soon the kitchen started filling with Avengers. A hour went by from Steve and Stephen's little 1v1 talk and yet Rogers was still glaring at Stephen and Tony who were sitting on the couch together. Strange was reading a book and Tony was laying on his chest. It made his blood boil.
"You have a staring problem. " Came Natasha's voice from his left. (Pun intended)"They are a cute couple I give them this ."
"Shut up ,Nat." That was more of a warning then a request but nothing could scare off the Black Widow so easily.
"I'm just saying they look happy....healthy."
"Romanoff!" A few heads turn to look at him but after a moment of silence from Steve everyone went back to minding their business.
"Steve, you can't get him back now. You were too suffocating and overwhelming for him ,that pushed him away. You hurt him , badly. " Nat stood up and put her hand on Steve's shoulder. " You need to change . Be better. " Then she left.
By be better she meant " Learn from your mistakes and next time you get in a relationship don't be toxic. " . Steve took it the wrong way . He thought she meant " You will definitely win Tony back, if you start being nice."
He mentally gave himself a pat on the shoulder for figuring this out so fast.
It was like all of his problems were solved by one simple sentence.
From now on .Steve Rogers was going to " Be better " his way back in Tony's life.
As he was grinning to himself like an idiot and watching Tony laugh at something that Thor said. Steve didn't see the doctor looking at him with a confused expression on his face.
Stephen knew he was up to something and he wasn't going to let him near Tony. Even if that meant following him around everywhere.
