Loki/Peter Parker (Fluff and Angst Frost Giant AU)

Fitting in with the Avengers had proven to be a challenge for Loki from the beginning. He never really fit in anywhere to be honest. Because of his actions in New York, no one on the team really trusted him much with anything. Especially Tony. Later on, Tony had a close call with a now defeated and jailed villain, and Loki had a key role in saving his ass. Since then, Tony had been a bit more lenient with Loki, more trusting, and had even stood up for him on occasion. Tony had never thanked him for it, but Loki could feel the gratitude. Yet, there was one person, through everything that Loki had done, who had trusted him and stood by his side. Peter, the son of Tony. Loki had never really understood their relationship because, to his knowledge, Peter’s parents were deceased. Loki never pressed him on the topic and he never brought it up anyway. Peter had always been there for him, even when he messed up sometimes, which was often. Peter always understood, and that made Loki feel seen. He had never felt seen. At all in his life, even by his mother. She was supportive, and loving, and the one thing that had kept him going for a thousand years. But, she didn’t understand.

All his life, he was pushed aside by his father, deemed weak, called a freak among other things. He never truly felt like he belonged. And then he figured out why. He understood why his father and his brother and the whole goddamn kingdom treated him like an outsider. He truly was a freak, an insider enemy. And how could Odin of all people treat a frost giant like an Aesir. Like an asgardian. Like a person. He wasn’t even truly his father. Yet he had always craved acceptance from him. He aimed to please and woo so that he may be rewarded and praised. But no matter what it was that he did, no matter how hard he worked, no matter how much blood and sweat he shed, he was never praised, never pat on the back. Never thanked for anything he did. And that’s why now he was curled up on the floor balling his eyes out in his so-called ’room’ because Peter had thanked him for getting a spoon for his cereal. Not one single person had ever thanked him, not once. And now he was being thanked for a fucking silver spoon. It was the nicest thing anyone had ever said to him.

“Hey, are you alright? I…I can get you a bowl of cereal too?” Loki could hear Peter shouting from outside the door.

Loki was silent for a moment, dreading talking to the boy out of embarrassment.

“I don’t wish to speak to you in this state, I would rather much talk to you later.” He replied, voice shaking and raspy from sobbing.

“Uh, okay. Are you sure you don’t want to talk? I mean, I don’t have to look at you, we can talk through the door?”

Loki heaved a sigh, wrought with the weight of his heavy heart, “Thank you, Peter. But please, just leave me alone for right now. I’ll talk to you later, I promise.”

“Oh, okay then. I’m here if you need me.” Loki could hear his retreating footsteps. And with a long breath in, he let a small sob out.

Even when he was crying and a hot mess, Peter was still there for him. Even if he wasn’t really there physically, Peter had found a small pocket in Loki’s heart, and woven himself in ever so delicately and meticulously. It gave Loki a warm comfort. One which he had only ever felt in his mothers embrace. Since her death, he had only felt the cold, bitter, blinding rage of his anger and pain. It was a nice change. But he was scared. So very scared.

An hour or two had passed and Peter was beginning to worry about Loki. Steve had said that Loki just needed some alone time, just like Peter did. Which didn’t really help his worrying, but calmed him down a bit. He had been pacing and muttering, and honestly, Steve was worried about Peter. He managed to sit down, but that didn’t mean he was still.

Just then, the threat alarm went off around the tower, signaling a meeting among the Avengers. They all rushed, flooding the room and quickly gathered around the mission table. Peter was the last to get to the table.

“Alright, we have a code 103-,” Steve started.

“Code Mr. Doom is throwing a tantrum again,” Tony interrupted, everyone could clearly see he was hungover.

“Uh, yes. Doombots have been seen on the East and South side of New York. They don’t seem to be attacking, but this could be a good opportunity to see what Doom is up to so we can be ready.” Steve brought up a few videos of doombots flying above businesses and carrying something.

“So, we’ll split up into 2 groups. Clint, Bucky, Natasha, and Bruce will be with me on the East side. Tony, Wanda, Vision, Sam, and Rhodey will be on the South side.”

“Oh, oh. What about me?” Peter said, raising his hand.

“Um, Peter. We thought it’d be a good idea if you stayed out of this one. Because of last time.” Steve said slowly.

“What? But I-,” Peter was interrupted.

“You almost died the last time we fought Doom. We want you to stay out of these kinds of missions. You’re not ready.” Tony said. His concern was hidden by his sunglasses.

“That’s totally unfair! I am ready! I am! And besides, it was just a scratch.”

Bruce interjected, “Actually, you had multiple life-endangering lacerations to your upper body that would have killed you if I hadn’t patched you up in the middle of the battle.”

Peter was quiet at that. Bruce had made a very valid point. It wasn’t until now that he realized that Loki wasn’t there. And like the very wise young man he was, decided to drop it since he would only be worrying about Loki the whole time and would probably end up getting himself killed. Peter walked away from the table and flung himself onto the couch very dramatically to not worry the rest of the Avengers about how easily he gave that argument up. He was very stubborn, especially when it came to missions. Eventually, they left on their mission. Which left the tower empty, except for one particular god of mischief.

Peter started down the hall, palms beginning to sweat from nervousness. What if Loki wasn’t okay? What if he was hurting and Peter couldn’t help him? The very thought put an awful dread in his heart. He made his way around the corner and finally to Loki’s door. Karen called his room a ‘containment chamber,’ but Peter didn’t like it very much, so he just called it a room. That’s what it should be. Peter breathed slowly and knocked on Loki’s door lightly.

“Go away.” Loki said from the other side.

“It’s Peter. I was just w-” Peter began, but was interrupted by Loki swinging his door open.

He looked like shit. He looked beautiful. Wait. What? No. …what?

Peter blushed lightly, “I, uh-, well-”

“I’m sorry for worrying you. I know how you get. I understand that I owe you an explanation.”

“Uh, yeah. That’d be nice.”

“Come in.”

Peter didn’t hesitate and walked into his room, looking around a bit. He hadn’t been in Loki’s room much aside from the few times that they had hung out. It was very kept and yet unkempt at the same time in a very organized neat way. He sat down on his bed, Loki following. Peter felt the depression of the bed as he sat down. It wasn’t very noticeable though, Loki was very light. A silence enveloped the room; Peter could hear his slow breathing.

“Well, first of all, I’m sorry for just running off like that. It was very rude of me, and well, confusing I assume.”

Peter sighed, “Yes, very confusing.”

“I guess, it’s just, no one has ever really appreciated me like you do Peter. I am very grateful for it.”

“What do you mean? I’m sure your brother appreciates everything you do for him…?”

Loki chuckled slowly, Peter could see pain in his eyes, “Peter. I enjoy your optimism. My brother and I have a very complicated relationship, one that I don’t quite understand sometimes, but you must understand. He doesn’t love me. He may like my presence from time to time, but I am not the brother he had when we were children.”

He shook, exhaling loudly. Peter realized he was crying, “I mean, I wouldn’t put it under him, it makes sense even. Really, only a fool could love someone like me. No matter how hard I try, no matter what I do, I will always be the monster.”

“But, Loki that’s not true. You’ve changed, what happened in New York, that’s the past. Plus, you were brainwashed, so it’s not your fault-”

“No, Peter. You don’t understand. It doesn’t matter that I’ve changed. It won’t change who I am. What I am.”

“Loki-…”

A sliver of green slowly made its way down Loki’s body. Right before Peter’s eyes, inch by inch, was blue skin. Blue and dark lines etched into his long face. Dark lines that were that of…of a Jotun prince. The blue continued down his neck and disappeared under Loki’s asgardian clothes, the green continued until all of his skin was icey blue. And his eyes. His eyes were a deep blood red, like he used blood for eye drops. Sclera and everything. There was a very uncomfortable silence then.

“Now you understand. I’m a monster. I’m an enemy to the throne. I can never be trusted. It’s in my blood to betray.”

Peter stood up and paced slowly for a moment, hand over his mouth. Loki was still crying. Peter took a long breath and turned toward him. His eyes were closed when he spoke.

“Loki. You’re not a monster. And even if you were,” Peter slid his spider ring off.

Loki had remembered that ring from the first day they had met. He always wore it, all the time. It was like he never took it off. And then he understood why. Before him stood a very much blue skinned Peter with dark lines etched into his skin.

“Then I guess I am too.”

The realization hit Loki like a brick, “Peter, your-“

“Half-Frost giant.”

“But, Tony-“

“Tony adopted me, remember? My mom was a Jotun actually. She came to Earth to find a new life for herself. And she met my dad. And she gave me this ring. To conceal my appearance from regular humans.”

“Peter. How? Does Tony know?”

“Yeah, he knows. And, I don’t know how. I have a hard time believing it myself sometimes.”

Loki took a moment to take everything in.

“And I must be one hell of a fool, too. Because I do love you Loki. I love you very much, and I have for a very long time. Practically since we met. I don’t care if you like me the same, I’ll love you, no matter what you do.”

“I-…oh, this is all so much. Peter, you’ve been there for me, when no else was. And you’ve never judged me. Even after everything. I, …I don’t want to hurt you, Peter.”

Peter stepped toward him, “You’d never hurt me, I trust you more than anyone else.”

He leaned in and kissed the god on the cheek.

“Peter, of course I reciprocate your feelings. But,” Loki exhaled, “this could never work.”

Loki stood and stepped away from him, “This, this could never be a thing. Tony would kill me if he ever found out. He’d throw me out, I’d be all alone again.”

“Who said he had to find out?” Peter stepped forward once more, merely inches from Loki’s lips.

Hot breath linked; one movement and their lips would meet. Loki looked in his eyes, a beautiful chestnut brown laced with the pain of rejection. And his own filled with the pain of love. He leaned in and met soft lips. His own were chapped and dry from crying, but Peter didn’t seem to mind. He was colder than expected, but they were both in their true Jotun form. It was a long moment before they moved again, Peter kissing him once more before pulling away.

“I’m sorry,” Loki said, voice raspy.

A single frozen tear fell from Peter’s eye.

“I’m sorry too. I can fix this, I can make it work. We can do this.” He held Loki close to him for a short time before parting.

Peter walked towards the door, “I know we can. I love you.”

“I love you, too.”

Tony was working in the lab on some nanotech. He had this great idea to implement some kind of it into his suit so it would be easier to get the suit on when he was out and about. He didn’t notice Peter standing right next to him.

“HOLY- shit, Peter. Don’t sneak up on me like that.” He said, getting up.

“Oh, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to. I actually wanted to talk?”

“Sorry Peter, no can do, I gotta run some papers down to Bruce. Later?” He said, already walking out of the room.

“Sure.” Peter sighed, facepalming.

‘That went great!’ He thought. Peter decided to check on Steve while he waited for another opportunity.

Tony had made his way back up to the main part of the tower, 5 hours since he had left. Walking back into his workshop, he noticed Peter was tinkering with some device.

“Hey, Pete. You wanted to talk?” Tony asked, sitting down next to him.

“Yeah, and what took you so long?”

“Oh, just…lots of papers to go over.”

“Okay. Anyway, I…I’m in love with someone.”

“I’m sorry, I thought you said you were in love?” Tony said, turning to face Peter.

“Yes, and I was wondering if you were okay with that. He’s scared you won’t be okay with it.”

‘He?…Oh,’ Tony thought.

Tony cleared his throat, “Well, Peter. I guess we’ve never really had this talk before. Um, you know I love you, regardless of who you love or what you identify as. So, I don’t care if you date boys. As long as they don’t hurt you, I am perfectly fine with you liking boys.”

Peter flung himself into Tony for a hug. He smiled and started sobbing.

‘Shit! Did I say something wrong?’ Tony started to panic.

“Thank you, Tony. That means a lot to me. I’m glad you're my dad.” Peter said, pulling away and wiping his face with the sleeve of his sweater.

“Of course, Pete. And I wouldn’t know what to do with myself if I wasn’t your dad to be honest.”

“I don’t know what I would do with myself if you weren’t.”

Even if Peter didn’t know, he really was Tony’s world. He never had kids, and he never really had a great relationship with his dad, so he strived to be nothing like his dad and raise his son to know he is loved.

Peter eventually separated from Tony and went off to bed. Of course, the first place he went was Loki’s room.

When he opened the door, Peter rushed to hug Loki, “Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh. Loki! Tony is okay with it! Tony is okay with us!”

“R-really? I have a hard time believing that.”

“No really, he said he doesn’t care who I date. And that it’s okay for me to date you!”

Peter reached up and kissed him softly, tears threatening to fall. Loki deepened the kiss and pulled him into his room, shutting the door gently and pushed him against it. Peter’s hands found their way to Loki’s face, and Loki’s to his hips. Peter was elated. But Loki still held fear. Maybe not about hurting Peter, but what might happen if he wasn’t there to save him from being hurt by someone else.

———————————-

Peter and Loki walked into the common area, holding hands and went into the kitchen to get some breakfast. It was around 9:00 AM, so the majority of the Avengers were in the common area at this time. Including Tony, who watched Peter kiss Loki on the cheek.

Tony groaned, “Peter, that’s not what I meant.”
