There were rumors of a settlement currently floating at the southwest of Menagerie.
Well, calling it a settlement would be more than an understatement.
It used to be just a settlement, but so many people who've grown tired of the Four Kingdoms of Remnant moved to this place. It became so populated that the founder, with the help of a highly advanced underground alien race and the Faunus of Kuo Kanna, turned a vast piece of land the size of Menagerie into a technologically-advanced paradise floating leagues above Remnant's seas and turned the settlement into a full-fledged country.
A country that expanded upon an already established network with the settlements in Remnant, except for the ones from Atlas.
A country that is not yet recognized due to its solitary and elusive nature.
A country named Velhallis.
Inside it is a very prosperous society. Farmland soil is fertile, businesses are bustling, and the day-to-day technology improved the population's overall quality of life. The long-established network with the other settlements on Remnant expanded upon by Velhallis' five previous leaders certainly helped the country thrive.
As for the other settlements, they maintained contact with Velhallis even after decades thanks to the Archway, two metal pillars connected by a metal archway and fitted with slipspace technology. Invented by human and alien scientists on Velhallis, each settlement has an Archway Room built under the town hall, with pathways connecting to the outside.
Because of this, it isn't all that common for the settlements, notably the ones on the frontier, to rely on the Four Kingdoms. It was until the fourth king visited some of them that he found out about the settlements' joint vow to only call for Huntsmen and Huntresses twice a week to maintain Velhallis' secrecy.
The walls are lined with hard-light shields and artillery rivaling that of Atlesian weaponry; some manned by soldiers in blood-red armor, others remotely controlled by those in eight towers at the central parts of the settlement. Velhallis is guarded day and night by five maroon supercarriers floating around it.
It is protected by an army of 798,250 soldiers. A major portion of the army is comprised of Humans and Faunus who moved to the former settlement years before it was transformed into a full-fledged country; though for years, not all Faunus were receptive to the idea of leaving Menagerie until three weeks after the White Fang changed. But there are a few portions of the army that isn't just from either race. Some of them are from the highly advanced race that made their home in Remnant and lived underground for centuries; others are robot/vehicle hybrids with a high level of sentience created by the founder's successor 79 years ago; and there is a squadron of genetically-enhanced super-soldiers clad in very strong armor.
The country thrived in secret, away from the eyes of the rest of Remnant... until five soldiers spotted a multitude of Bullheads, all bearing the insignias of three of the Four Kingdoms.
As soon as the soldiers entered the northern gates of the walls, they didn't wait for their commanding officer to clear them, using their jetpacks to fly straight to the fortress using of the current King to tell him of the urgent matter. Their superior just shook his head, letting out an exasperated breath upon realizing that they might've had a matter to take to the king.
The fortress itself was... more of a glorified and very detailed cuboidal structure than an actual fortress, surrounded by four towers that are twice its height. The fortress had solar panels, water towers and a helipad on its roof. Heavy artillery lined the topmost part of the walls and the towers. The residential, single-function, commercial and industrial districts surrounded the fortress's walls on one side, while the farmlands, forestry and wildlife surrounded them on the other.
In the fortress, the King was in the master bedroom with his silver-haired daughter and a midwife tending to one of his wives, a woman with purple hair highlighted with pink, who was minutes away from giving birth. The king sensed five souls coming to his abode, so he stood up and reassured his wife that he'll be back in a few minutes before walking out into the terrace.
Upon reaching their destination the soldiers didn't need to find him. As soon as he spotted them, he immediately motioned for them to come over.
Once they landed on his terrace the king asked, "Good day to you all. Judging by how out of breath you are, I'd have to assume that you all have vital information. What is it?"
After catching her breath and brushing her bangs so that they covered her left eye, the lead soldier answered, "Your Highness, we've spotted multiple Bullheads; all of them bore the symbols of three of the Four Kingdoms!"
The king's eyes widened a little, before tightening his lips and furrowing his brows in contemplation.
"Sir?" asked one of the soldiers, a silver-haired young man with prosthetic legs.
"Somehow, I should've expected this." The King said.
"What do you mean, sir?" Asked another one of them, this time a dark-skinned woman with light-green hair. Upon seeing the soldiers' interested expressions, the king explained.
"I saved a woman before I became this country's king; a Huntress named Summer Rose. She was on the verge of death, laying on the snow in a forest far away from a Vale settlement. She was about to be turned into a meal by an Ursa Major and two Beowulves that surrounded her, so I killed them all and healed her until she regained consciousness. Looking back I probably should've made sure that she promised not to tell anyone about me before leaving, considering her superior is the latest reincarnation of Ozma, archenemy of the ashen witch."
All of the soldiers looked at each other and back at him, their eyes widening at the information he had just divulged.
"Alright, report back to base. Find the Chief and the Arbiter; inform them and the other generals of the situation. We need to be ready just in case this ordeal gets bloody."
"Yes sir!" The soldiers chorused.
"Good. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to get back to Kaina. She's-" The king was interrupted by his daughter, who slammed the terrace door open.
"DADDY, IT'S HAPPENING!" His daughter called out to him, as he heard his wife's pained screams amidst the midwife ordering the doctors and nurses assigned to his wife from inside.
"... She's about to have our first child." The king said before turning to re-enter the room, a small smirk on his face as he heard the female soldiers getting excited as they and their male comrades flew away.
"HHHNNNNNNGGGGGAAAAAARRRGGHHHH!! IZUKU! GET THE FUCK BACK IN HERE OR SO HELP ME I'LL FIGHT THROUGH THE PAIN AND DRAG YOUR ASS BACK MYSELF!!!" Lady Kaina Midoriya screamed out, louder this time, as the doctors and nurse tried to calm her down. And that prompted King Izuku Midoriya to come back inside.
"Woah... I never knew this place existed!"
"You say that like you're the ONLY one who didn't."
"Oh gee, Weiss; sorry for pointing out what we've all been thinking."
"Why, you little-!"
On one of the two Bullheads bearing the insignia of Beacon Academy, Vale's top Huntsman/Huntress academy, two students started bickering with each other, while their other classmates either watched or minded their own businesses. Meanwhile, the professors and huntsmen onboard talked amongst each other while occasionally telling off the students for getting loud. They were still far from the rock that the country was built on, but all the occupants of each Bullhead could already see the supercarriers that guard it and the grandeur it held.
"First most of the Faunus left Kuo Kanna less than three years ago, then half of the criminal underworld started to crumble down. And now this? A secret country that only the outer settlements and apparently Vacuo knew existed?" Asked a professor named Peter Port, making a Cat Faunus' ears perk up at the mention of the Faunus' former home.
The three-year-old news that almost all Faunus from Menagerie were gone still stirred the pot, so most of Remnant's Huntsmen and Huntresses were thorough in investigating the matter. The White Fang took this especially hard, as it was evident when the organization lost 3/5's of its members shortly after hearing the news. Then after a few months of investigation, the headmaster of Beacon and Atlas' General received a tip from a Huntsman named Rhodes who heard a rumor about "a one-of-a-kind paradise" in a small bar at Dormir, one of Atlas' settlements.
And as if that wasn't enough, Vacuo was apparently the only Kingdom to know of its existence. Though Qrow Branwen pestered the head of Shade for information about it after being told by Ozpin of the tip from Rhodes, he never got any information from him, as the ruler of Velhallis made him swear an oath of secrecy.
"Hard to believe we've never heard of this place yet. Surely someone would've told us about this Velhallis before all this farce," said a professor with blonde bunned-up hair named Glynda Goodwitch, talking to Ozpin, Beacon's headmaster.
"No, no one from the settlements would've told us outright," Ozpin replied.
"And whose fault is that?" At Qrow's retort everyone gave him a look, which he pointedly ignored.
"Indeed! I hope we can successfully establish relations with this country and learn about its history." A rather excitable bespectacled man named Bartholomew Oobleck replied, his wild hair moving with his head as he nodded.
One of the occupants onboard, a Huntress with silver eyes, flinched slightly, hoping no one noticed it.
Unfortunately, two people did notice her slight flinching, although her husband decided not to say anything about it.
On the other hand, Qrow decided to ask her about it. "What's the matter, Summer?"
Summer perked up and looked around, each of them having a look of interest on their faces, worry more so from her husband and daughters. She just let out a breath before answering.
"... I know one of the people there." At that, all eyes were on her, making her continue. "The country's ruler saved me from certain death, almost eleven years ago. Apparently, when he healed me he was travelling around the world as a part of his country's tradition called 'Trials of The King', a year-long ritual to become the ruler of his country."
Her family's eyes all widened. Qrow nearly dropped his liquor flask.
"Ah, so we can expect our 'first contact' with them to go as smoothly as we can hope." Ozpin said. Professors Oobleck and Port and the students murmured in agreement, while Summer just looked away.
"Not quite."
Everyone gave her a look of confusion, more so from her family. "Just because he saved my life doesn't mean we were acquaintances, nor are we on friendly terms. Don't expect him to be as amicable as my mother; if anything, he would just see all these Bullheads as us trying to intimidate him," Summer explained further.
"Knew we all should've just gone on one of those Atlesian airships," Taiyang commented. Qrow silently agreed with him.
"I'm sure he'll understand," Glynda said, though her eyes held some doubt as to whether this impromptu meeting will go as smoothly as Ozpin thought earlier.
Just then the voice of General Ironwood sounded throughout the Bullhead's PA system. "Now now, Mrs. Rose, have faith. I'm confident that this will go as planned." Ozpin agreed, though he could tell that even the general was starting to get cautious.
The visitors from the Four Kingdoms finally landed just outside the northern gates. All the students of all academies went to stretch their limbs and catch their bearings, while the professionals all convened together while waiting for the students.
A while later, the gates opened, and they were greeted by Velhallis' soldiers. All of them wielded custom designated rifles, and each squadron had red military outfits. Some looked like humans; others looked like Faunus; and a number of them seemed a bit larger in size than the rest, wearing blood-red armor with varying designs.
Hell, many of the vehicles that were driving along with the soldiers started transforming into robots, all led by the two robots that turned into a red-and-blue semi-truck and a silver-and-black hover tank.
But what really got their attention were the five people walking between the red soldiers, indicating that they stand at the top ranks of the army.
The first wore green armor with the numbers 117 on the left side of his chest piece, with a form-fitting dark-gray bodysuit beneath it, and his head covered by a green helmet with a gold visor. He held his rifle in front of him, like he was waiting for a fight to start. Sitting on his left shoulder was a small, glowing female figure, watching them all carefully with a serene yet slightly tense smile on her digital face.
The second was a young man who simply wore a long-sleeve checkered shirt below a gold-accented knight's chest piece, denim jeans and brown tactical boots. His shoulder-length blonde hair flowed freely behind him, and his striking blue eyes held some kind of fierceness in them, causing many of the female students to blush harder than a virgin getting embarrassed by hand-holding. On his left forearm was a shield that doubled as a sheathe for his sword, with an emblem consisting of two gold crescent moons emblazoned in the middle. The crest surprised Athena Nikos and the Schnee's, as they thought the Arc family had long since died out in the "Fall of Arcadius" nearly sixty-nine years ago.
The third was a twenty-three year old man who looked like someone managed to make a very handsome Frankenstein with white hair. He wore a dark blue tactical bodysuit with glowing orange accents, underneath a bluish-gray long coat with metal cuffs at the end of each elbow-length sleeve and a darker gray stitch design on each shoulder. The students collectively shivered at the sight of his skin, which had been marred by the few stitched-in patches of gnarled, purple skin.
The fourth looked intimidating, and it was made evident considering Team CRDL is getting close to collectively shitting their pants from his masked glare alone. He wore a red mask that covered his face, but not the top of his head. He had bi-colored hair; orange bangs in a star-like pattern and brown hair tied in a ponytail. He wore a currant-red unitard with light-red designs under a blush-red cropped jacket with faded-maroon sleeves, though Qrow and Glynda noticed that the "unitard" seemed a little squirmy, almost like it has a life of its own. He wore a pair of dark blue combat pants with a red belt and royal blue tactical boots. Holstered on his belt are two chrome-red automatic pistols.
Beside him was a saddled bluish-gray wolf that was as tall as him, its fangs bared and eyes sharp as it growled at the outsiders.
The last looked like an alien. No, scratch that. The last one is a literal alien, and if the visitors were surprised, they sure worked very hard to hide it. He was taller than the man in green armor, even in a hunched posture. Underneath the gold ceremonial armor was a creature with dark gray skin and amber eyes, his jaw split into four parts with each one having their own sets of teeth. He held a sword made of hardened light with his right hand, and a very sophisticated gun with the other.
The Army stopped before the visitors, pointing their guns at the outsiders. Not one of them moved a muscle. just staring at the outsiders stoically.
The visitors had become wary; the ruler was nowhere to be found. Jacques Schnee started to get irked, including some council members from Vale, Mistral and Atlas. They stepped forward, despite hushed warnings from General Ironwood, Glynda and Ozpin.
"Where is your leader? We've come all this way to meet him and yet--!"
As if on cue, a pillar of ethereal fire erupted from the ground, making the Schnee patriarch shut up and stumble back in fear. From within the fire a man burst forth.
And he was not what they expected.
He had an appearance that one would not expect from a king. Hell, he had an appearance one would very much expect from a male popstar. Emerald green eyes and a freckled face with a sharp jawline that made him look a tad effeminate beneath his long forest-green hair tied up in a ponytail.
Beneath his red cape he possessed a build that perfectly hid his true strength, wearing a dark green sleeveless unitard with light accents and a pair of dark blue combat pants. His gloves and boots are dark green accented with lighter shades, with his arms wrapped by bandages. On his index fingers, he wore two rings; rings that held his weapons. On his back is a very sturdy shield that absorbs vibrations, given to him before his father passed away.
On his head he wore a crown made of ethereal flames. And on his face is a scowl that can melt all ice and snow in Atlas.
And that scowl turned harsher when the man looked at Ozpin, who was tempted to take a few steps away from him.
"State your purpose," the man addressed them, a severe tone in his voice.
At first glance, one wouldn't think he is the one who runs the country, but Ozpin could feel it, and so did everyone else present.
No one dared to speak.
No one dared to move.
They were all in the presence of a King.
