Chapter 10
Buck woke up the next day and he turned over and saw his husband's face and he smiled.
“If you're going to stare then you could at least give me a kiss” Eddie says smirking.
“Well I don't know if you deserve one,” Buck says.
“Oh really well I guess I can convince you” Eddie says and he starts to tickle his husband.
Buck starts to laugh and wriggle around and Eddie loves hearing his husband laugh and he doesn't stop.
“Eddie… Eds” Buck tries to say but he can't say anything as he is laughing too much.
Chris opens the bedroom door and he sees both his dad and papa having fun and decides to join in.
Chris walks up the bed and climbs on and he starts to tickle his papa.
“Two against one is not fair,” Buck says.
Both Eddie and Chris laugh and they continue to tickle Buck.
15 minutes later and all three Diaz men are tired and they all lie in bed and get their breathing under control.
“OK let's get up and get some breakfast” Eddie says.
Chris gets off the bed and goes to his room and he gets his crutches and heads to the kitchen.
Buck and Eddie get out of bed and head to the kitchen themselves.
“Morning you two” Helena says.
“Morning,” Buck says.
“Morning mum” Eddie says and he gives his mother a kiss on the cheek.
“So what made all three of you laugh this morning?” Ramon asks as he comes into the kitchen.
“I got attacked by these two” Buck says and points to his son and husband.
“We don't know what you're talking about” Chris says trying to act all innocent.
“Oh I'm sorry it was just daddy who was ticking me then” Buck says.
“Yes he was the only suspect,” Chris says.
“Mijo I'm shocked” Eddie says but his voice shows that he is not angry but is hiding a giggle.
“Well I'm sure that we can let Buck know where you are ticklish,” Ramon says.
Buck smiles at that and even though him and his husband have been married 7 years he loves to find out new things about him.
Eddie looks on and tries to act offended but the man is failing.
“OK breakfast is up” Helena says as she puts the last plate of food on the table and everyone digs in.
Buck tells his in-laws that he is meeting his mother at 12 pm as she wants to see him and Eddie says that he will go through Chris's school work with him and Ramon says that why don't we all go out to lunch and everyone agrees.
Ramon and Helena leave for work as they both decided to get part time jobs as they didn't want to just sit around the house.
Buck leaves the house at 11: 30 am and heads towards his parents house.
Grant- Nash household.
Athena woke up earlier than normal today as she knew she needed to have a clear head and to think about what she was going to say to her son.
Bobby walks out the bedroom and he is all ready and he gives his wife a look and grabs his bag and heads to work.
“Did you and dad have an argument?” May asks.
“Yeah honey we did” Athena says.
“How come?” Harry asks.
“I made a mistake and I have lied to your brother about something” Athena says.
“Why did you lie to him?” Harry asks.
“I never meant to but a part of me was scared that he was going to get hurt and I guess I thought he was still that little boy I needed to protect” Athena says.
“But he's not and now he is going to be mad and you know what he gets like when he gets mad” May says and she gets up from the kitchen table and storms to her bedroom.
Athena knew she deserved he daughter having a go at her and it's true as when Buck gets mad he closes himself off and won't speak to anyone for at least a few days.
May and Harry leave for school not long after and Athena cleans the kitchen and she then goes and gets ready and by that time she has come up with a way to explain why she did what she did.
12 pm comes and there is a knock on her door and she knows it's her son.
Athena opens the door and she greets her son with a kiss on the cheek and a hug and let's him inside.
Buck walks in and he goes to the sofa and he wonders what his mother wants to talk about.
“So is this about the case?” Buck asks.
“Kind of” Athena says and she sits next to Buck but makes sure she is facing him.
“Well what's this about?” Buck asks.
“First of all, I want you to know that I'm so sorry and I never meant to hurt you or lie to you. It just happened so I hope that you'll understand and won't be too angry with me,” Athena says.
“Mum I'm kinda confused how did you lie to me?” Buck asks.
“So you know when you asked me who that woman was and why she was in your house and I said we don't know her name?” Athena asks.
“Yes,” Buck says.
“She did give us her name and told us why she was in your house” Athena says.
“Who is she?” Buck asks.
“Her name is Maddie Buckley,” Athena says.
Buck sits there in shock and it's like his brain has stopped and he doesn't know what to think let alone say.
“No you're wrong” Buck says.
“Sweetheart I'm not I'm so sorry” Athena says.
“Sorry you're sorry, you lied to me and acted like you didn't know who she was” Buck says.
“Evan please I know you're angry but I need you to understand” Athena says.
“Understand that you thought that it would be a good idea to lie to my face and get your boss to lie to me as well because I'm guessing she knew you hadn't told me the truth,” Buck says.
“I never meant to lie to you but when I saw you and Chris laughing I thought how could I break that happiness and tell you that the person who hurt you and treated you badly is now back in your life” Athena says.
“I had the right to know,” Buck says.
“I know but I thought I was protecting you and keeping you safe like I used to do when you were a little child” Athena says.
“I'M NOT A CHILD ANYMORE” Buck shouts.
Athena takes a step back and she looks at her son and she sees the anger and pain in his eyes.
“I'm so sorry Evan please believe that” Athena says.
“Why should I. I have always felt like I could trust you but today just showed me that you still think I'm that helpless little boy that got tosses aside and that's what hurts the most so I won't forgive you and that trust has been broken so I hope your happy with the decision you made” Buck says and he goes to the door and he opens it but before he leaves.
“Eddie will bring Chris over to see you and dad but that's about it as of right now I can’t have you in my life” Buck says and he walks out the door.
Athena breaks down in tears and she sees what Buck said is true and it hurts knowing he is keeping her out of his life but she made the choice to lie and now she is facing the consequences for it.
A few minutes later Athena stops crying and she goes and gets her coat and heads to the firehouse.
Athena gets to the firehouse 15 minutes later and she walks in and heads up the stairs and she sees her husband and her best friend talking.
“Hey guys” Athena says.
“Athena, good to see you I thought you were working today?” Hen asks.
“Day off as I had some things to do” Athena says.
“OK if you sticking around then why don't we talk” Hen says.
“Let me guess you and Karen need a babysitter?” Athena asks.
“Only for this weekend please we need some alone time,” Hen says.
“Yeah, that's fine,” Athena says.
“Really Bobby just said you had plans with Buck and Eddie?” Hen asks.
Bobby looks at his wife but he can tell the conversation between her and his son didn't go too well.
“Buck had to cancel he said something came up that he couldn't get out of” Athena says.
“OK thanks for helping, I'll let you talk to Bobby” Hen says and walks off.
“So how angry was he?” Bobby asks.
“Angry enough to cut me out of his life” Athena says.
“What did you expect?” Bobby asks.
“I get that I messed up Bobby but not for him to do that” Athena says.
“Athena when we first met Evan he was a wreck and it took us months before he would open up to us and you know what that woman did to him and for you to lie to him about the one thing that would hurt him is what I can't understand but as I said your my wife I will have your back but I'm going to need time to figure out how I feel” Bobby says.
“I know I did wrong but I just thought about what if she gets too close to him and then hurts him and it's not just Evan that I'm scared about it's Chris and Eddie as well” Athena says.
“I get that but Evan is not that little boy anymore and we promised years ago that we would be open and honest about the Buckley's” Bobby says.
“I know I screwed up but I'm just scared that Maddie Buckley being in our son's life means trouble” Athena says.
“Then we face that trouble together and that means being honest with all members of the family” Bobby says.
Buck got back to his in laws house and he could hear Eddie explaining something to Chris and he didn't want to go in the house all angry so he walked back to the car and he sat in the car until he was feeling calm.
While Buck was lost in his thoughts he heard a knock on the car door.
Buck looked up and saw Abuela was standing there.
“Abuela, what a nice surprise” Buck says as he rolls down the window.
“Is everything ok Evan?” Abuela asks.
“Not really,” Buck says.
Abuela gets in the passenger seat and she waits for her grandson in law to talk to her.
“That woman that broke in yesterday she's my biological sister,” Buck says.
Abuela looks at Buck and she is in shock and she hopes that this woman isn't here to hurt her lovely grandson in law.
“Why is she here and I thought you didn't know who she was?” Abuela asks.
“I don't know why she is here and it turns out my mum lied to me,” Buck says.
“Oh Evan I'm sorry that your mother lied to you” Abuela says and she hugs Buck.
“Thank you and when I found out I got into a massive argument with her” Buck says.
“Is that why you're in the car?” Abuela asks.
“I didn't want Eddie and Chris to see how angry I am,” Buck says.
“Well I'm sure your husband has seen you angry but I understand that you want to protect them from this side of you” Abuela says.
“I guess I'm just feeling lost again,” Buck says.
“Well inside that house are the two people who will battle any type of weather to save you so let's go and let them know they need to be your lifeguards” Abuela says and she gets out the car and Buck does the same and he heads to his lighthouse.
