Chapter 6
It had been a week since Athena and Bobby had been in El Paso and they had completely fallen in love with Eddie and was so happy their son had found his person and Christopher was amazing. They loved getting to know him and they couldn't believe they had a grandson already.
It was their last night and everyone was gathered in the back garden of Helena and Ramon's and celebrating that two families had come together and Ramon had announced that he and his wife as well as his mother and sister we will be moving to L.A. in a months times to be with their son,son in law and their grandson.
Everyone was excited and Buck said he wasn't their son in law yet and he got told he just needed to make it official but in their eyes he was already married to Eddie.
Christopher was excited to have his grandparents moving to L.A. with him and he couldn't wait and he made sure all the family knew his dad and his Buck were going to get married and be his Papa.
Ramon and Bobby had got on after Bobby apologized again for accusing Eddie of using Buck just for his money and with Buck's permission he told Ramon why he went straight in to Papa Bear mode and told him about Buck's parents and his sister and why he was put up for adoption and it broke Ramon's heart that Buck's own sister could hurt him but he is glad that Buck's biological parents got him out and he got a loving family.
In the Kitchen Helena and Athena are talking and they are both having their own conversation and Helena understands why Buck's parents reacted the way they did and Helena made sure to let her daughters know that they need to learn to keep their mouths shut and think before they speak.
While the two women are speaking the doorbell goes and Helena goes and gets it and she opens it to find a man in a suit holding some documents.
"Can I help you?" Helena asks.
"Yes I'm looking for Helena Diaz, Ramon Diaz and Evan Buckley" The Man says.
"I'm Helena Diaz. Can I ask what's this regarding?" Helena asks.
Athena goes and gets Ramon and Buck and they all head inside and both of the men go and stand next to Helena.
"You've been served" The man says and hands the documents over and walks away.
All three of them are shocked but they close the door and head out into the garden where their family is.
"What was that about?" Athena asks.
Buck takes the documents from Helena and looks at them and sees that they are from El Paso County CourtHouse and he opens the document with his name on it and reads it and once he is done looks up.
"Sophia, can you go and put Chris in his room for me?" Buck asks.
"Sure" Sophia says a little confused but she picks up her nephew who doesn't want to go to his room and starts screaming and walks away.
"These are documents from the El Paso County CourtHouse and they are saying we need to be there in two days as the police have arrested Shannon and they need us to testify against her" Buck says
"That's why you wanted Chris in his room?" Eddie asks.
"Yes I don't want him to hear us talking about her" Buck says.
Eddie loved how Buck always thought about other people and he loved that he always put their son first.
"When is the court date?" Bobby asked.
"In two days" Buck answers.
Bobby and Athena walk away and pull out their phones and get in touch with both their bosses and request time off for another few weeks and they tell them that their son was a witness to a crime that involved child abduction and he is being called to testify against the person responsible and they want to be in El Paso to support him as it will take a lot out of him.
Both Bobby and Athena’s bosses grant them three more weeks of leave and they hope that their son will be OK and Bobby says he will inform Firefighter Howard Han that he will be acting Captain for three more weeks. Bobby's boss is fine with that.
Bobby phones Chimney and informs him that he will be acting Captain for three more weeks and Chimney tells him to enjoy his holiday with his wife but he doesn't mention Buck and Bobby finds that odd.
Athena phones Hen and asks if she can look after May and Harry for three weeks and tells her what happened and Hen agrees and says she hopes Buck and Buck's Boyfriend's son is OK.
Bobby and Athena come back into the garden and tell everyone they have three more weeks so they can support Buck,Ramon and Helena in what might be a grueling trial.
Helena and Ramon thank Bobby and Athena for the support and they get told they are family.
Buck asks who is looking after his siblings and Bobby says Hen and Karen and then Buck asks who is the acting Captain and Bobby says Chimney and Buck scoffs at that but he goes and checks on his son and sees if he has stopped throwing a tantrum.
Bobby is surprised at the way Buck is acting when he brought up Chimney and he gets the feeling there is more going on than Buck has ever told him.
"What was that about?" Eddie asks.
"I don't know," Bobby answers.
"Does Buck not like this Chimney guy?" Abuela asks.
"I thought he and Chimney got on but actually Chimney didn't ask about Evan when I told him what was going on he just said enjoy your holiday" Bobby says.
"It would explain why he stopped coming to the firehouse when he was a teenager and preferred to just meet you at home or come with me to the station," Athena says.
"Maybe but I think there is more to it but for now let's worry about the trial" Bobby says.
Everyone agrees and waits for Buck to come back and when he does he looks annoyed.
"Everything ok?" Eddie asks his boyfriend.
"Yeah Christopher is just in full blown temperature tantrum and is refusing to go to sleep" Buck says.
Christopher is not one to have tantrums that much but when he does they last awhile and both Buck and Eddie have gotten annoyed at him.
They love their son but they can't wait until the terrible twos are over with.
"So what's the plan?" Buck asks.
"Why do we need a plan?" Eddie asks, sounding confused.
"Well we are not taking Christopher with us when we give evidence against Shannon so we need to make sure someone can watch him as we don't know how long it's going to take" Buck says.
"It's fine, me and Sophia will watch him," Sophia's husband says.
"Watch who?" Sophia asks as she comes back into the garden with Christopher in her arms and she gives him to Buck and Christopher says sorry and he closes his eyes and falls asleep and both Eddie and Buck know he has just tired himself out so they let him rest in Buck's arms.
Sophia's husband tells her that they will look after Chris when everyone is at the trial and she agrees and knows that her parents and her brother in law will need to focus their attention on the trial.
Two days later and it's the trial and everyone is there supporting Helena, Ramon and Buck.
The prosecutor is a women who takes no prisoners her name is Hazel Bailey and she has been a lawyer for 30 years and when she got this case she made to do her research and she found out everything about Shannon and how she was not allowed to be near Eddie, his parents and the rest of his family and most importantly she was not allowed to near her son Christopher as she lost her parental rights to him.
She also found out information on Buck as well and what she was allowed access to showed that he was a very intelligent person and he was also a lawyer but he had just finished with the navy so some information was classified.
Shannon's lawyer was a guy just out of law school and he was called Jason Turner and he looked like he was terrified of what was to come and so he should be.
The judge was called Jackie Pascoe and she was a judge that played fairly but was also very strict about the rules in her courtroom.
When Hazel got up to start her line of questioning she made sure that the lawyer knew he was out of his depth and she enjoyed making sure the bloke knew never to go up against her without being prepared.
Buck was the first person to be called and he went up to the stand and sat down and he was ready for the questions.
Hazel asked him why he was in El Paso and what he was doing at the fair and Buck told her and the judge that he was on leave from the navy for three months and El Paso was somewhere he had never been and after he checked in to his hotel he went to have a look at the fair, Buck was asked about his interaction with Shannon and Buck said that he bumped into her but when he said sorry she just dismissed him and was acting weird and Buck relied on his training and decided to keep an eye on her and good thing he did as he saw her following Mr and Mrs Diaz who had young Christopher and the way she was looking at them made him more suspicious.
Buck was asked about what happened after that and he explained about the gunmen coming and scaring the people at the fair and that's when Shannon made her play to grab Christopher as everyone was distracted and he was on the floor with his grandparents holding his hand.
Hazel asked him what had happened when he found Christopher and Buck said that he was on the floor had a gunshot to his legs and Shannon was nowhere to be seen and that he picked him up and Christopher clung to him straight away and then one of the gunmen came up behind him and threatened to kill him and then the police arrived and arrested him.
Hazel had revealed that Shannon had hired the gunmen as a diversion so she could kidnap her son and take him out of the country to somewhere in Europe.
Shannon's lawyer was shocked at that as she had not informed him of that and he had to think of a different strategy but that didn't matter as Hazel made sure to destroy this woman.
Ramon was called next and he had told the court how bad a mother his former daughter in law was and how she treated her son and spoke about Eddie and when he was home on leave she would constantly bring him down and say nasty things to him and about him and it broke his heart that she could be so cruel.
Hazel asked about Eddie's sexually and how he is in a relationship with Buck and Ramon said that Buck was the best person ever and his son is so happy with him and Christopher loves him and he show his grandson so much love but he is not afraid to be the stern parent and teach Christopher about boundaries and that he can't always get his own way.
Ramon got asked about Buck having money and paying for the medical bills and Ramon said that Buck insisted and that they are not mooching off him and that they generally love him and he is family.
Helena gave her testimony and she told the court how Shannon was homophobic and the things she would say was disgusting and she genuinely thought that she may one day become an abusive person and she was worried for her son and grandson.
After Hazel was finished questioning Helena the judge asked Mr Turner if he had anything and he said to be honest there is no way I can defend my client and he is removing himself as her lawyer and when he was asked if he was sure he said he was.
Shannon didn't like what people were saying about her and she was on the edge as it was but when her own lawyer said he couldn't defend her she had enough and attacked him and told him that he was useless and he would regret not helping her and the judge got the bailiffs to take her away and to her a doctor or nurse so they could calm her down.
It took four hours to get Shannon calmed down and when they had she was brought back in and she had no one to represent her and the judge said she would be spending five years in a mental institution and then ten years in prison as she was clearly dangerous and showed that she would try anything to hurt people.
Shannon was led away and the judge ended the trial and left.
Once everyone got back to the house and told Sophia and her husband what happened they all celebrated that they can move on and look forward to a fresh start and Buck decided to get down on one knee and everyone gasped and Buck said
"Edmundo Diaz, will you do me the honor of becoming my husband and making this family complete?" Buck asks.
"Yes I will" Eddie says straight away and he pulls Buck into a kiss and they can hear everyone cheering.
Christopher is beyond excited his dad and papa are getting married and he can't wait to be the cutest best man.
Athena and Bobby are happy and they can't wait to have Eddie in the family and they are looking forward to being the best grandparents to Christopher and just spoiling him rotten.
Helena and Ramon are in tears. They are so glad their son found Buck and can't wait for him to be part of the family officially.
