Chapter 3
Night had fallen and Buck had fallen asleep as the next thing he knows is he is being gently nudged awake by Helena who tells him to go take a break and get some coffee in his body.
Buck does as suggested and he grabs a coffee from the canteen and he turns his phone back on and sees that May has called about 5 times and he has a missed call from his mum and a voice mail from her telling him to call them and the hope he is OK.
Buck finds his Mums number and presses the call button.
"Evan, is everything ok? May told us you're in hospital" Athena says
"I'm fine first of all I'm at the hospital not in the hospital May needs to stop jumping to conclusions" Buck says
Buck tells his mum to put him on speaker and once she does and tells him his dad is with her too he tells them everything and tells them about little Christopher and how cute the boy is and how he wouldn't let go off Buck and how the Diaz have treated him and how he is going to get in touch with his CO and take the three months that they owe him and say that he is finished and that he is still going to stay in El Paso.
"Son we are so proud of you and I'm glad your OK and we can't wait to see you back home" Bobby says
"Your dads right sweetheart we are extremely proud to call you our son" Athena says
"Thanks Mum and Dad it means a lot to me. Look I'm going to go and head back in to see Christopher talk later" Buck says
Ok sweetheart talk later" Athena says and hangs up.
Buck went back to Christopher's room and both Ramon and Helena told Buck to go back to his hotel and get some rest and at first Buck didn't know if he should but Helena said that he won't be taken of the visitor's list and he will still be allowed to see Christopher as they know that Christopher won't want to let go of his new friend so Buck went back to the hotel and he crashed hard as all the adrenaline just washed away from him.
One week has passed and Buck is more integrated into the Diaz's lives and Christopher has completely fallen in love with his Bucky and Buck was being honest he had fallen in love with Christopher the boy had taken a piece of his heart with him the first time he called him my Bucky.
3 days later Christopher was back home and he was constantly attached to Buck and wouldn't let him go anywhere without him and would get upset if he couldn't find his Bucky.
Ramon and Helena got a call from Eddie telling them that he would be back the next day so the Diaz's decided to throw a massive party for their son and they knew their grandson couldn't wait to see his dad.
Buck had said the Diaz's that he would give then some time alone with Eddie and it was a family event and Helena and Ramon said to Buck he is family and welcome to come but Buck was adamant and the whole Diaz clan knew Buck could be stubborn they still feel guilty allowing him to pay for Christopher's medical bills and his PT but Buck said he is doing it so they let it go.
The day off of the party came and Christopher was in a grumpy mood. The little boy wanted his Bucky and when people tried to tell him that he would see him the next day or the day after that he screamed in their faces.
Eddie stepped off the plane and made his was to a taxi to take him to his parents house that he had been staying at since his and Shannon's marriage fell apart and he needed the support as he had taken her to court and got her parental responsibilities terminated and Eddie is not ashamed that he needed to lean on his parent's that's what your parents are there for so no Eddie won't feel like he is weak just because he had to move back in to his mum and dad's house he did what's best for him and his son.
Eddie walked into the house and called out and his father said they were in the garden so Eddie went into the garden and froze.
"SURPRISE" Everyone shouts.
Eddie is completely overwhelmed and he feels so much for his family right now.
"You guys didn't have to do this" Eddie says
"Of Course we did sweetheart we are so proud of you and have missed you like crazy so we wanted to show you that" Helena says
"You're mother is right not day went by when we prayed that you were safe but we knew that you would not turn your back and would want to help your country but your fellow humans" Ramon says
Eddie hugs them both and when his Abuela brings him his son he has tears in his eyes and takes him in his arms and holds him close to his heart.
Christopher is not in a good mood today he is sore and tired but most of all he misses his Bucky.
Eddie can tell something's not right with his son and he only now notices that his leg is bandaged and his heart breaks that his son got hurt and he was away.
"Mum, why is Chris' leg bandaged?" Eddie asks
Ramon and Helena tell Eddie everything and what Shannon did and how Buck saved Christopher and from that moment on Christopher has been calling Buck my Bucky.
After hearing everything Eddie is stunned he can't believe what has been going since he has been away.
"How much is this going to cost?" Eddie asks
"Eddie,Buck has taken care of everything we didn’t pay Buck won't let us" Ramon says
Eddie is again given another piece of information that makes his brain nearly short-circuit; whoever this Buck is,he has been a huge help to his family.
"Is this why Christopher is being fussy?" Eddie asks trying to get Christopher to settle down
"Yes it is. Chris loves Buck and his face lights up when he is around" Helena says.
"How come he is not here then?" Eddie asks if he would like to meet the man who saved his son and is taking care of his medical bills.
"He is not here unfortunately Buck said he wanted to give us time with you and this was a family event" Ramon says
"That boy is too kind hearted and he is family" Abuela says coming up to them and taking Chris from Eddie.
"We know that he is family but I think Buck feels like he might be imposing" Ramon says
"Or maybe he wants some time alone he might feel we are being to much" Abuela says
"We never thought of that, what if we are and Buck didn't know how to tell us?" Helena asks
"We will ask Buck when we see him" Ramon says
Buck was in his hotel and he was bored. Since meeting Chris and the Diaz family he has been having a great time and always keeping himself busy. Buck had gotten in touch with his CO and said he was leaving the NAVY and ending his contract since he only had three months left so instead of them paying him for his leave they agreed to just let him take the three months as unpaid and he would only have to do a passing out ceremony at the end of the three months so as far as anyone is concerned he has left the NAVY now and his CO said good luck in your next future career.
Buck decides that he will pop over to the Diaz house just for a little bit and meet Eddie and hopefully he gets on with the guy as Eddie might not like Buck hanging around or paying for his son's medical care.
Over at the Diaz house everyone is happy that Eddie is back and they are all having a good time and enjoying that the family is together but it seems that Chris is not happy at all as he just seems to be fussy and every time Eddie tries to settle him he gets more cranky and when someone says Buck's name Chris looks around for him but when he doesn't see him he gets more upset.
Eddie is feeling helpless as it seems that no matter what he does his son won't settle down.
"vamos Chris, está bien, papá está en casa ahora." Eddie says
(come on Chris it's OK daddy's home now.)
Eddie tries soothing his son but it doesn't work so Eddie hands Chris back to his Abula and walks away.
"Eddie, está bien." Helena says
(Eddie, it's OK.)
"No, no es mamá. Le estoy fallando a mi hijo". Eddie says
(No, it's not mum. I'm failing my son.)
"No le estás fallando a Christopher." Helena says
(You are not failing Christopher.)
"Sí, lo soy. He fallado como esposo y estoy fallando como padre." Eddie says
(Yes, I am. I have failed as a husband, and I'm failing as a father.)
"Eddie, no has fallado como padre. Has demostrado que eres lo suficientemente valiente como para pedir ayuda, y algunos matrimonios no duran, no significa que fallaste como esposo, significa que tu persona todavía está por ahí." Helena says
(Eddie, you have not failed as a father. You have shown that you are brave enough to ask for help, and some marriages don't last. It doesn't mean that you failed as a husband, it means that your person is still out there.)
Helena pulls her son into a hug and just lets him have a moment where he can just let his emotions come out.
After a few minutes they both got themselves together. They were heading to the garden when the doorbell went off and eddie said he would get it.
Eddie opened the door and his jaw nearly dropped and stood in front of it was a blonde muscle man with the amazing blue eyes Eddie had ever seen.
Eddie didn't know how long he stood there but by the man's face he was looking at Eddie like he was thinking Eddie was a weirdo.
"Sorry, how may I help?" Eddie asks
"I was looking for Ramon or Helena? I'm Evan Buckley but my friends call me Buck" Buck introduced himself.
Eddie never thought that this man was the Buck everyone was going on about; he is gorgeous Eddie thinks to himself.
"Sorry I'm being really rude. I'm Edmundo Diaz but my friends and family call me Eddie" Eddie says introduces himself to Buck.
"You're Christopher's dad" Buck says
"Yes I am" Eddie says
Before both Eddie or Buck could say anything else they hear a happy cry behind them and it's Christopher waddling towards his Bucky and his Daddy.
Buck leans down and hugs Christopher and ruffles his hair and that gets a giggle from the little boy.
"My Bucky and My Daddy" Chris says and hugs them both and runs off all happy that his Bucky is here.
"I guess Christopher wanted us to meet since he is more happier now then he was an hour ago" Eddie says
"I guess so" Buck says
Eddie stands aside and Buck enters and before he knows it Eddie is hugging him and thanking him for saving his son and paying for the medical bills.
Buck hugs Eddie and tells him he doesn't need his thanks and Christopher is an amazing kid he should be proud of such a great job he is doing.
After a few minutes the two men hear a voice shouting MY BUCKY and MY DADDY so they both go into the garden and everyone greets Buck.
Chris is in such a great mood now that his Bucky is here and Eddie gets to know him some more and finds out he is an ex NAVY SEAL so they have something in common with being both military after that Buck tells Eddie about his family and that he has a law degree and that he is going to join a firm in a few months after his vacation.
Eddie tells Buck about himself and how his marriage ended and that he has sole custody of Chris and that he has a degree in teaching so when he gets used to being back he will start to look for teaching jobs in high schools.
Chris goes up to his dad and makes grabby hands so Eddie picks him up and Chris falls asleep happy that his daddy is home but also happy that his Bucky is with him too.
A few weeks pass and Buck and Eddie have become inseparable. They are always together and get on like a house on fire and Eddie's parents are happy that their son has found someone who loves Chris like his own son and looks at Eddie like he is the only person in the room.
With some encouragement from his family Eddie decides to ask Buck out on a date and Eddie hopes Buck says yes.
"Hey Buck" Eddie says as soon as he sees the blonde come through the door
"Hey Eddie" Buck says
"Can I ask you something?" Eddie asks
"Sure go for it" Buck says
How do you feel like going on a date with me?" Eddie asks.
"Yes I would love to go on a date with you" Buck says.
