Chapter 2
The doctor came over and neither anyone could read the man's body language so they only hoped that Christopher was OK.
"Mr and Mrs Diaz if you would like to come with me and we can talk about your grandson" The doctor says looking at Buck
"It's OK you can tell us in front of Buck" Helena says
"Well the good news is your grandson is alive and the surgery went really well" The doctor says
"Thank god" all three adults say looking relieved
"The bad news is little Christopher is going to be in hospital for at least 3 weeks and because of him having Cerebral Palsy he is going to need some PT" The doctor says
"Is he going to be in any agony when he is doing PT at his age?" Buck asks
"I'm sorry but who are you to the patient?" The doctor asks
"He is family" Ramon says
"Yes he is and is my grandson going to be in any agony like Buck asked" Helena says
"Yes he will be in agony I'm not going to lie to you" The doctor says
"What are his chances without PT?" Buck asks
"If he doesn't do PT it will be at least three months for him to be able to use his leg and he will be in more agony" The doctor says
"Ok thank you doctor when can we see him?" Ramon asks
"Give it 10 minutes and then I'll get a nurse to come and get you" The doctor says
"Thank you doctor" Helena says
The doctor walks away and goes to the nurse to let her know that in 10 minutes she needs to let the three adults know that they can see Christopher Diaz and once that is done he goes to the computer to type in his notes.
"You guys didn't have to tell the doctor I'm family honestly I wouldn't have minded if you guys wanted to speak in private" Buck says
"Buck you saved our grandson and put yourself in harm's way and you didn't even know him so we consider you family" Helena says giving the man a hug
"My wife is correct we can see that you are a great person who has the biggest heart " Ramon says
"Thank you" Buck says
"Excuse me Mr and Mrs Diaz" someone says
All three adults turn around and see two police officers and they know that they are to find out what happened at the carnival.
"Yes that's us, what can we do for you officers?" Ramon asks
"We need to speak to you about what happened and how your grandson got hurt" The officer says
"Of Course we will tell you anything you need to know but just to let you know that in 10 minutes we will be seeing our grandson" Ramon tells them
"That's fine Mr Diaz" The first officer says
"When your ready just take your time" The second officer says
"Ok we were at the Carnival and I had my grandson in my arms and my husband was waving a Teddy Bear in front of his face and making him laugh as Ramon had just won it and Christopher liked it so we didn't really pay attention to what was going on around us" Helena says
"We decided to let out grandson walk on his own as it's supposed to help with his CP and we don't like to be overbearing and then the next we know is everyone is running around and we lost our grandson" Ramon says
"Eddie is going to be so upset with us and he will blame himself for what happened" Helena says
"Helena I'm sure Eddie will understand and it's no one's fault" Buck says
"And who are you sir?" The second officer asks
"Sorry I'm Evan Buck Buckley I was at the carnival when things went down" Buck says
"He saved our Christopher from those terrible people" Ramon says giving a slap on Buck's back
"Can we ask why you we're at the carnival" The first officer says sounding suspicious of Buck
"Hang on just a second I hope that you are not excusing Buck of being involved" Helena says angrily
"It's fine honestly and the reason I was there is I am on leave from the Navy Seals and I decided to visit El Paso as I have never been here before and if I were you officer's I would be looking for a brunette woman as when i got there i bumped in to her and i said sorry she just ignored me and the way she was acting made me suspicious her and I followed her and she kept following Ramon and Helena and she made sure to stay back so when this happened she grabbed Christopher and ran and I followed after as I suspected she is a dangerous woman" Buck says smugly
"Ramon it was Shannon that took Chris and put him in danger" Helena
"Who is Shannon?" Buck asks
"Shannon is our ex daughter in law and Christopher's mother but she is not allowed near him or have any contact at all she has no parental rights" Ramon says
"So that's why she was keeping to the shadows Ramon and Helena I'm so sorry that I let her get to Christopher" Buck says
"Buck you were keeping an eye on her and thank god you did as you followed her and found Chris so you are not allowed to blame yourself" Ramon says
"Ramon is right looks like we were supposed to meet you as clearly you are our guardian angel" Helena says
"Sorry to interrupt but you can see Christopher now" The nurse tells the adults
"Thank you. Are we done here officer?" Ramon asks
"Yes we are and Mr Buckley we are sorry if it sounded like we were accusing you" the first officer says
"We are only doing our jobs I'm sure you understand" the second officer says
"I do understand and that's why I'm not having a go at you both and just so you know I do have a law degree so I know my rights and I also have loads of money so if you did arrest me I would be calling an expense lawyer" Buck says
The officer's look shocked as they just thought he was just some stupid navy seal but clearly they got it wrong.
All three adults walk away and when they get to Christopher's room they all take a deep breath and walk in and right before their eyes is the little boy and he look so small and he is connected to all sorts of machines but he is alive and that's the main thing so all three grab a chair and sit just waiting for Christopher to wake up.
Los Angeles Athena and Bobby's House
May had been trying to get back in touch with her big brother for over an hour now and all that she was getting was his voicemail and she was getting nervous and angry she just didn't understand was Buck hurt why would he not say and who was the person she heard saying the doctor was coming with an update May tried again and got nowhere so now it was the big guns and that meant mum and dad.
May went out of her room and she was thankful that she found her parents in the living room and they had their clothes on what was even better.
"Hey guys can I speak to you?" May asks
"Of Course honey, what's wrong?" Athena asks
"So I was just on the phone to Evan and I told him what I walked in on" May says
Both Bobby and Athena look guilty which May is glad for.
"What did your brother say?" Bobby asks
"He said you guys are gross but as was talking to him I heard a man's voice on the other end saying that the doctor was about to give an update and then Evan said he will talk to me later and when I tried to phone him again I just get his voicemail" May says
Both Bobby and Athena are worried now they knew their son had a habit of hurting himself and landing in hospital but they got used to it but the one thing they all agreed that if he landed in hospital then he phones them so why didn't he this time and how bad was it
"Ok May when you spoke to him how did he sound?" Athena asks the cop side trying to override the mum side
"Well he sounded normal and he didn't sound like he was trying to hide anything or not make us worry" May said
"Maybe he witnessed someone get hurt and was with them at the hospital and just wanted to wait and see if they were OK?" Bobby says
"Then why is his phone off?" May aks
"Watch your tone young lady" Bobby says
"I'm sorry I'm just worried" May says
"May sweetheart I know you are" Bobby says giving his daughter a hug
"Ok I just tried to get in touch with Evan and it went to voicemail and I said for him to phone us when he can and I was calm when I spoke" Athena says
"That's good look we know that when Evan joined the Navy Seals we would be worried but now we know what he feels like with us two and he only has three months left then he can start thinking about joining a law firm or take a break it's not like he is short of money" Bobby says
"You're right and when he does phone then we worry but at the moment let's not jump to conclusions" Athena says
"When he phones he is going to owe me the new Gucci handbag that just came out" May says
"May we did not raise you to be spoilt or superficial" Athena says
"And just because your brother made some smart choices in college and he is now rich you don't just ask him for stuff you work hard for it am I making myself clear young lady" Bobby says
"Yes I'm sorry" May says sounding annoyed
"Right go to your room and we will let you know when we hear from your brother" Athena says
May walk off and both her parents know she is annoyed and to be honest they just hope she snaps out of it.
"Evan is smart and if it was something for us to worry about then we would be informed" Athena says
"I know but I still worry about him" Bobby says
"Bobby you are allowed to worry about him but you know we raised him well and if he was really hurt then he would phone no matter what" Athena says
"Your right let's start on some dinner" Bobby says
Athena and Bobby head in to the kitchen and they both hope their son is OK and not been badly injured.
