You're the Boss
Lizzie's POV, Sunday, January 2nd
After watching the sky and the sun start to set I felt my phone buzzing in my pocket. I glanced at it and saw that I had a text from Ashley. Hi Lizzie! I just wanted to let you know that there's someone coming to see Quin at 6:30 if you could have her back by then. Thanks so much! I hope you've been having a good time. I glanced at the time on my phone screen. 4:23. I looked over to Quin and Chris who were next to me in the back of the car. Both of them had crawled under some of the blankets and fallen fast asleep. Not that I blamed either of them. Chris had just spent over an hour getting his assed kicked by a six year old. And Quin had been running around the playground and absolutely destroying us all in baseball. Chris was sprawled out as much as he could be in the back of the car and Quin was curled into a little ball at my side.
As I continued to watch the sunset I had a feeling that neither of them would want to miss it. Or at least Quin wouldn't. I would be lying if I said that no part of me wanted to see Chris' reaction to being woken up after falling asleep in the trunk of a car. I stared at Quin for a moment, trying to figure out the best way to wake her up without freaking her out. I gently brushed my hand through her hair and she started to stir. Within a few minutes she was fully awake. Jeez, if that's all it takes to wake her up, I wonder how much sleep she actually gets.
Once she's awake she doesn't say anything, she just goes back to staring at the sky.
"Hey," I whisper, "How'd you sleep?"
"Pretty good," she whispered with a yawn.
I gestured to Chris who had now started to snore a little. Quin let out a little giggle.
"You wanna wake him up?" I asked.
"Really?"
"Mhm. I doubt he'll want to miss all of this," I said as I gestured to the sky.
Quin promptly jumped on top of Chris. Awakening him abruptly for his slumber. Chris screamed immediately and Quin climbed off of him, bursting into a fit of giggles.
"What the hell is going on?" Scarlet mumbled sleepily. I suppose she probably was still jet lagged.
"How was your slumber sleeping beauties?" Robert teased the two of them.
Scarlet rolled her eyes and Chris grumbled, still only half awake. Quin promptly hit both Robert and Chris in the heads with pillows causing an outburst of Hey and what was that for?
"I could've hit you in the head with something a little harder," Quin grumbled, "Now watch the sunset," her voice now dropping to a whisper.
"Okay," Robert sighed, turning his head to look at the sky, "you're the boss."
I watched as Quin's face lit up a little and a small smile came over her face as he said that.
After watching the sunset and staring at the night sky for a bit, I glanced at my phone and saw that the time read: 6:03. Oops.
"Hey Quin," I whispered, gently turning towards the girl to make sure she was awake.
"Yeah."
"We've gotta go. I told Ashley you'd be home by 6:30."
She pouted a moment before turning to the guys and saying her goodbyes while I got Scarlet.
"See ya later kid," Robert called out.
"Bye!" Quin said with a wave and a small smile.
"Oh," Scarlet called out, "We're having dinner tomorrow with her and the Crosby's. You two are welcome to join. If you're on your best behavior," Scarlet teased.
The guys grumbled for a moment before Evans called out, "Send us the address and we'll see you tomorrow."
Once we climbed into the car and started to turn around we saw the guys attempting to pack everything up. We watched as both guys stood up super quickly and hit their heads on the trunk of the car. We all laughed.
"Useless," Scarlett muttered as she continued to turn the car around.
"Well, there's no fixing that now," I said with a laugh as we drove away.
