The Great Outdoors
Lizzie's POV, January 2nd
"Where the hell are you going Downey?" Scarlett muttered under her breath as she took yet another windy uphill turn.
"At this point I think it's best we don't ask," I replied.
"Fair enough," she laughed, "So, uhh, Quin today."
"Yeah," I chuckled softly, "I mean she seemed to really come out of her shell today."
Scarlett hummed in agreement before coming to an abrupt stop.
"Apparently we're here," she announced.
"Okay? And where exactly is here?" I asked as we stepped out of the car.
"Well ladies," Robert called out as he stepped out of his own car, "This is the great outdoors," he continued as he spread his arms out, gesturing to the trees and land around us.
"The great outdoors?" Scarlett mocked, "Isn't that a bit much?"
"Whatever Johansson. It's a mountain and it's cool out here. Come on kid, help me out over here."
"I think it's cool," Quin agreed as she walked over to our car to retrieve her stuffed dinosaur.
"Hey Robert, where's your partner?" I asked.
"Don't tell me you left him at a gas stations," Scarlet joked.
"Ha ha, you guys are hilarious. I didn't ditch him, he's just setting some things up."
"What kind of things?" Quin asked as she tried to sneak around to catch a peak at the back of Robert's car, dinosaur still in hand.
"That's a no," Robert called out as he ran over to Quin, picking her up and setting her beside me on the hood of our car.
Quin crossed her arms (or at least she tried to with the giant dinosaur in her arms) and let out a huff, unintentionally blowing her bangs up and out of her eyes. Adorable
"Never fear," Chris said in a goofy superhero voice, "I've finished," he continued as he ran around from behind Robert's car and struck a superman pose.
We all laughed and Quin leaped off our car and raced to see what it was that Chris had set up for us.
Now Robert had one of those big cars, with 3 or 4 rows of seats and a sunroof. And upon getting here he (Chris really) had converted it into a little skywatching unit. He had lowered the second row of seats and reclined the passenger and driver seats all the way back. He then proceeded to cover the rest of the car with those little blow up air mattresses (electric ones of course) and thrown blankets and pillows on top. He had thrown blankets over the side windows and hung up little battery powered fair lights.
"Jeez," Scarlett said as she stared at the vehicle.
"How the heck did you do this so fast?" I asked.
"This ain't my first rodeo," Robert replied as he climbed into the drivers seat.
"Now we have the perfect view of the sunset and then we'll be able to see all the stars," Chris said as he jumped into the backseat via the trunk.
Scarlet moved to sit in the passsenger's seat and me and Quin climbed into the trunk, leaving it open for now.
"Oh, there's also a little camping stove and some food and beverages over hear," Robert said, gesturing to a bag that was sitting in the space between the passenger and diver seats.
After a while of sitting and watching the sunset Quin finally whispered, "This is amazing."
"You think?" Robert asked, to which Quin just hummed contently in response.
