Peter & Tony - Origin Swap

Tony Stark is a middle class mechanic who returned to New York at the death of his parents to be at their funeral

After the service Tony mopes in the streets of NY before ending up in a park, and sits down on a bench

Random kid comes up and greets him, asking if he’s alright

Peter feels almost like a clear sunny day after being locked inside a whirling hurricane, and Tony finds the kid sassy and very clever

Peter gets found by his bodyguard (Tony just thinks he’s the father, or relative, or something), sighs, and says goodbye to Tony

But before he leaves he gives Tony a shiny rock they had been kicking back and forth, and he tells the man something cryptic that pretty much sparks intrigue and interest (this is going to push Tony through the loss of his parents, not working through emotions, no, but distracting himself as best he could)

—————————————————

The next time they meet is at the cemetery

Peter’s family has headstones but they’re completely blank, he explains that it’s not for lack of funds, it’s just that his parents hadn’t written their wishes or talked about tombstones before they died and his guardians decided that (good reason why). He says he lives with his aunt now.

Tony shows him the Stark graves, explains they were scientist (maybe explore that more). He’s full of conflicted feelings.

Peter suggests they go get ice cream (hot dogs?) - Tony humors him. Peter tries to pay but Tony won’t let him (Peter pouts)

When Tony gets home he realizes that the kid had slipped a 50 dollar bill into his wallet.

—————————————————

The next time they meet, Tony is drunk.

He’d gotten in a bad argument with Pepper (his ?girlfriend) and had gone to the pub to drink his sorrows away

Eventually the owner kicks him out, and Tony is an absolute wreck. He’s angry, and shouting, and absolutely sick.

Peter finds him at the gate of the cemetery, puking his guts out before he passes out.

Peter panics and immediately tries to help Tony.

When Tony wakes up he realizes he’s in a hospital. The nurse present reassures him that it was just to make sure he was alright, and tells him that he won’t have to worry about the bill because his friend took care of it.

Tony doesn’t have any rich friends.

Tony gets a call from Rhodey asking to let him in - Tony tells him he’s at the hospital

Rhodey freaks and comes to pick Tony up and stays with him for several weeks

During this time, Peter interrupts a pizza worker’s delivery (telling the dude he’s picking the pizza up for his dad) (after doing some snooping to figure out where Tony orders pizza) and comes to check in on Tony (under the guise that he works at said pizza place)

Tony is startled, and Rhodey is instantly suspicious of the ‘illegitimate child’ possibility

Peter leaves after a little bit, after Tony (Rhodey is again surprised) reminds him he’s on shift.

The moment Peter leaves Rhodey starts to grill Tony about who the kid is - and Tony doesn’t really know much about the kid.

Rhodey still isn’t ready to let go of his theory.

The next time Tony meets Peter he feels like it’s intentional at this point.

Tony’s getting groceries when notices Peter having a conversation with a rather irritated customer (Karen/Kyle alert) over what looks like the last box of oreos.

He’s about to step in to help when instead the heir of Oscorpe, Harry Osborne, cuts in and rather aggressively fends off the lady.

After, Harry scolds Peter, mentioning he’s a Parker and shouldn’t let people push him around like that.

Tony is shocked, and ducks into one of the isles, thoughts racing as he stares sightlessly at the various pop tarts in front of him.

Self contemplation is interrupted by Peter and Harry turning down the isle and Peter noticing Tony.

Peter pretty much is excited to see Tony, remembers Harry is there, passive aggressively tells Harry to leave Tony alone, and quickly books it out of the store.

Tony is in shock.

Tony makes is way home and when he’s finally at his apartment door he’s shaking too bad to properly unlock the door.

ENTER JARVIS!

Best Boi Jarvis comes and helps Tony out, the general fatherly stuff.

Tony unloads on Jarvis, panicky and confused.

Jarvis is ever calm and ever the voice of reason.

“Maybe Peter Parker has been craving the normality that he’s never had his entire life. Maybe you remind him that he’s a kid.”

The next morning, Tony is nervous boi. Pepper’s in his kitchen, having made breakfast. She wants to talk and finally apologize.

He’s noticeably different when he’s still nervous and hesitant but he doesn’t brush her off or pretend he didn’t hear her. Pepper tells him after asks why she looks so surprised when he sits down beside her.

They converse, Pepper tells him that she isn’t going to commit to this relationship if he’s not willing to. But she wants the two of them to work out.

Tony reflects on the time he’s spent with Peter, another relationship that’s growing in his life.

He talks to her, promises that he wants this and he will work for this.

Pepper looks at him and tells him he’s changing . . . for the better.

The next time Tony meets Peter it’s Tony that sees Peter first, sitting on that same bench where they first met.

Peter looks tired and has a black eye, and is startled when Tony sits behind him.

Man asks what happened - Kid says kids at school [it’s actually from patrol]

Tony asks why Peter keeps looking for him, talking to him, he’s a strange adult man - Peter shrugs and says there isn’t a whole lot a random person in the park could do hurt him, he’s constantly under guard, and he says it looked like Tony had needed someone to talk to.

They sit in silence for a moment before Tony invites Peter to his repair shop (welcomes his guards to come as well), and Peter is in awe of the lab

Tony sees the genius kid in action and for the first time the way that someone is thinking or talking makes sense to his brain. The kid thinks like he does and it’s so incredibly relieving.

Gets a call from Rhodey and answers it. Tony makes the convo short (which he knows means Rhodey will call again, or worse, fly over on the first flight to New York) before turning back and helping Peter on a small little launcher [web shooters XD].

The next time Tony meets Peter, it’s because the kid is bleeding out from a gunshot wound, Spider-Man suit an absolute mess.

Tony panics but helps Peter with first aid (he’s much too skilled for just a regular mechanic, but being paranoid and having a friend in the marines was more than enough explanation)

Asks Peter if his aunt knows - when he finds out she doesn’t, Tony demands that if Peter isn’t going to tell her then he needs to at least tell someone he can trust.

Peter looks him in the eyes and says “I told you.” before explaining his spidey sense around Tony.

Tony is snatched

Thinks its about Peter (doesn’t say anything about the kid though)

Osborne comes out and starts asking about his parents, their research, their notes

Tony realizes his parents were shady scientists at best, terrorists at worst

Lying, Tony says he doesn’t have the notes because his parents burned them but he’d read them.

Makes a suit instead ( manages to make mostly face covering, part of his right arm, and his right left)

Tony breaks out as Iron Man - gets out on the news, everyone sees this random vigilante bursting from Osborne building

Pepper realizes it’s Tony and helps him escape without notice of the public eye.

Upon getting home, Tony tells Pepper everything, talking about his new paranoia and fear (mostly about Osborne and what he could do to Tony’s life and the people he loves)

Pepper is the one to suggest that he built a new suit

Frantic knocking at the door, and opening it reveals Peter Parker who looks like an absolute mess, and May Parker is barely even a step behind him

Finds out Peter had started to panic and finally told his Aunt about Tony - they had been looking for him for the 4 months he had been gone

May is immediately like, ‘this man is for sure iron-man’ and ‘we’ll help protect you from the Osbornes’

Rhodey come in a fury (can’t take military leave at the drop of a hat, and has finally arrived- was out in the field didn’t know until recently)

Jarvis comes in, realizing that Tony is back
