Chapter One

Daisy stumbled into the S.H.I.E.L.D. base. She was covered in blood (some of which wasn’t her own). The mission hadn't gone in the direction it was supposed to. Her team had been ambushed by a group of rebels and she had taken the brunt of the attack.

As she walked through the hallways, Daisy felt her energy waning. She knew that she needed medical attention, but the thought of going to the infirmary was daunting. She just wanted to curl up and sleep for a week.

She knew she had to go or she wouldn't hear the end of it from Jemma or Lincoln.

She could barely stand as she made her way to the medical bay, her wounds aching with each step.

Lincoln was already in the medical bay when Daisy arrived. He had been on standby, waiting for her to return from her mission.

When he saw her… his heart sank. He had never seen her in such a state before. He rushed to her side, his medical training kicking in. As much as he wanted to be the loving boyfriend, he couldn't help but let the doctor in him take over.

"Daisy, what happened?" he asked, helping her to a nearby bed- springing into action mode.

She winced as she sat down, her breathing laboured. "Rebels... they ambushed us," she gasped out. "I couldn't save everyone." Her eyes were watering, and her breathing sounded… not the way it should.

Lincoln helped her lay down, and then he gently started examining her wounds. He knew that she had suffered some serious injuries, but he didn't want to scare her with the extent of her injuries.

She already had so much going through her head, he didn’t want to burden her with more. His caring boyfriend side peeking through.

"You're going to be okay," he said, trying to keep his voice calm. He stroked her head. "Just breathe, Daisy. I'll take care of you."

He changed her into a gown, and then cleaned and dressed her wounds as she winced in pain. Her body was covered in bruises, her ribs were cracked, and her right arm was broken from her powers.

As he worked, he couldn't help but think about how much she meant to him. He had always been there for her, supporting her in any way he could.

He hated her job, however. He didn't like how she was always in danger, and how he would always be constantly worried if she was going to come back alive or not.

He hoped that some day, it would be different. That they would leave shield, and start a life together. A family.

After what felt like hours, Lincoln finally finished treating Daisy's injuries. She was still in a lot of pain, but she was finally stable. He decided she should stay the night in the medical bay to be monitored. She was alive- but still in bad enough shape. It was the safest call.

He went to get some pillows and soft throw blankets from her room, making sure that she was as comfortable as can be.

"Daisy, you need to rest," he said, his voice soft.

She shot him a look.

He smiled softly. "I'll stay here with you, make sure that you're okay."

She looked up at him, her eyes filled with gratitude. She didnt have to speak. She didnt have to tell him those special three words. *He knew.*

Pain was etched all over her face, but it didn’t seem to matter to her. She had him. In that moment, thats really all she needed.

He climbed into the bed with her, moving the wires connected to her pumping her with pain meds, making sure they don’t get tangled between them.

She rested her head on his chest as they lay side by side.

“Thank you,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

Lincoln smiled down at her, feeling a warmth spread through him. "I'll always be here for you," he said. "No matter what."

She then turned over, her body facing his.

He put his arm around her and held her close, feeling the tremors in her body. This only happens to her sometimes- usually when she’s feeling a really strong emotion she’s struggling to control.

He wishes there was something more he could do. He *hated* seeing her like this. *Hated*.

"It's okay," he said, rubbing her back “You're okay. You're gonna be okay.” He kissed the top of her head as he continued to rub her back.

Daisy leaned even more into him, feeling his warmth. She knew that he was right, but it didn't make the pain any less.

As she lay there, feeling drained and exhausted, she thought about how much he meant to her. He was always there for her, no matter what. He had a way of making her feel safe and protected, even in the most dangerous situations.

They sat together in silence for a while, Daisy in and out of sleep and Lincoln watching over her.

Growing up- she hated doctors. Still does, but… she has her exceptions.

She especially likes the tall blonde one that she calls *Home*.
