ALBUS DUMBLEDORE’S FILES

MOEFY TRANSFORMATIONS P1

Ever since Harry Potter accidentally discovered the spell for special anthropomorphized transformations, I have done research about it and how it affects each of the transformed objects and creatures. In this entry I will document the original batch.

First and foremost, I have understood a few things about on how the spell works:

  • It requires an emotional connection between the caster and the object or creature. If they can’t bring up feelings or love or a connection it won’t work. Hence at the point that Harry casted the spell, only these four were initially accepted.

  • It is hard to block or contain. Despite many of the objects and creatures transformed being magical objects with great resistance or protective charms, they can be affected still. Is it because it is an unknown magic no one has found wards for? Or is the power of love, like I always seem to think, strong enough to bypass it?

  • Aside granting sentience, it enhances the existing magical prowess of the object or animal that is affected. It even provides healing like it did for Maria, whom was suffering from Dragon’s Blight. The transfiguration proves to be able to heal those it transforms and it requires more study, but it may be the key to several uncurable diseases to no longer be uncurable.

  • It grants sentience to transformed objects. They come into the world knowing how to walk, talk, think and even have some knowledge about what happened around them when they were still objects. I am not sure how that happens. A Japanese friend of mine told me a legend on how objects if they live long enough they gain life force, and become Tsukogami. Maybe it’s a form of that? Maybe the caster and creators of the original objects had left something of themselves behind? Hard to tell.

HEDWIG THE OWL

Originally Harry’s pet, familiar and postal owl. First birthday gift he ever received, first living being that loved him unconditionally. Of course she’d be affected. Currently in her transformed state she has taken up a motherly role in Harry’s life that he desperately needs.

Classification: At the moment Hedwig’s appearance may indicate a sort of Harpy transformation and for the moment has been classified as such. Harpies mostly have traits of eagles or hawks, but never owls before. Hence Hedwig can be classified as the first Owl Harpy in existence.

Biology: Her biology is also similar to harpies. Her bones may be hollow like birds, but they are reinforced with magic and minerals to make it durable enough that she can carry loads heavier then herself. While having more human traits has displayed some aspects of owl biology aside the obvious, mostly the fact she can turn her head around 180 degrees.

Diet: Her transformation has granted her a human face and hence human teeth, which would imply omnivore. However, her diet still seemed to consist of meat like before. She can process processed and cooked meats better then before, as she is able to consume unholy amounts of bacon without ill effects, which seems to be her favorite. She still seems to like to eat small rodents, birds and reptiles still.

Abilties: Aside the natural flight, head turning, keen sight and claws she still has form being an owl, some traits are enhanced. She is obviously is much stronger, faster and agile then a normal owl.

Her postal own magic has enhanced in that she can now use a form of apparition that is normally only seen with Phoenixes and Diricawls. It jumps faster then Diricawls, but not up to the power of a Phoenix. Still, it is a different enough version of apparition that it bypasses the Hogwarts Wards, not unlike House Elf Magic. The limits haven’t been tested but she was able to jump from Scotland to Crawley to deliver a letter for Hermione Granger. So still plenty powerful.

Intelligence: While given full sentience, her knowledge was hampered upon transformation. She didn’t even initially know how to read or write. Odd compared to other transformations whom could. However, her intelligence is staggering because she is able to pick up knowledge quickly, and Miss Granger was able to learn her how to read in a few weeks, a month tops. In the tutoring classes she shows no experience with magical courses and is on the level of a first year Muggleborn starting out, but she is also getting caught up quickly. There is a reason owls are associated with intelligence and wisdom.

Magic: Is able to wield a wand to cast spells, as much as any other wizard and witch. She currently wields a sister wand to Harry and Voldemort, with a core provided by Fawkes. The Affinity with the wand is either due to herself being a magical bird or her own budding feelings for Fawkes.

Weaknesses: While she is stronger then she appears, she is also much more frail then the other transformed beings. Relies on agility and speed, not brute force.

Some owl instincts still shine through. While they are minor they are possible to be exploited. Having not shown true aggression against anything but a Death Eater in disguise and being fairly good at self-control otherwise makes the problem minor. She at times has, when worried or flustered carried Harry to his nest and sat on him like a baby egg out of protective instinct.

Personality: Motherly, caring and affectionate. Takes great pride in what she does and is touchy when someone butts in on her ‘territory’, as she, prior to being charmed by Fawkes was a bit jealous that Fawkes tried to act motherly. Deeply caring and most of the time sense of reason, unless bacon is involved. I would call her a mama bear, but a mama bear has nothing on a mama owl.

MARAUDER’S MAP AKA ‘MAPS’

Originally created by the Marauders, James ‘Prongs’ Potter, Sirius ‘Padfoot’ Black, Remus ‘Moony’ Lupin and Petter ‘Wormtail’ Pettigrew. It is a detailed map of Hogwarts that is able to keep track of everyone and everything in the castle, and can easily see through magical disguises and invisibility cloaks. It was created so that they could easily sneak out to support Remus during his transformations without getting caught, though admittingly it is quite useful for pranks and sneaking around. The fact it connects Harry to his father, godfather and honorary uncle he grew to love, she of course was transformed.

Classification: It is hard to tell whether to classify her as an Elemental (since she isn’t composed of natural elements) or a sub-species of golem (though unlike actual golems have sentience). I may need to invent a subspecies called Sentient Construct, as she is much more sentient then any other animated object, and is much more her own person then a shadow like Ghosts or paintings.

Biology: She consists entirely out of magical ink and parchment. She can take any shape but she prefers a human form, probably to make her more approachable for Harry and his friends.

Diet: She doesn’t need food to sustain herself. Everything she eats does nothing for her, not even empty calories and just are broken down completely. The only satisfaction she gets is taste. She doesn’t need to, but she can and wants to eat. She seems to prefer sweets the most, as she is prone to inhaling desserts at every meal and snatch my candy stash every chance she gets.

What truly sustains her is ink. She drinks the ink students use for class. The fact we have a giant squid whom can provide a lot of magical ink means she never runs out.

Abilities: Like before she can keep track of everyone in the castle and see through their disguises. However, she needs a certain focus if she wants to look or scan a person, as she didn’t recognize the fake Moody as Bartemius Crouch Jr. Until she gave it her attention. Over time she may be able to use her magic more easily.

Due to being composed of ink, she can shapeshift in any form provided it isn’t too much bigger or smaller then her. She can break pieces of her off to act as extensions though the range isn’t unlimited. She isn’t affected by blunt force, and several spells made to affect human beings won’t affect her biology. She can also regenerate from minor wounds quickly. She is also stronger then she looks, able to easily throw people and heavy objects across the room.

Intelligence: Incredibly intelligent. The Marauders were some of the most intelligent students I have and they have updated the Map until the very end. So she has the knowledge of James, Remus, Sirius and Peter at the time of their graduation. So she has a wide array of knowledge about any Subject, aside from Muggle Studies and Divination. She could easily sit her Newts, but hasn’t done so since she wants to stay close to her new family. She, like the Weasley Twins and the Marauders, is good at crafting items and substances and great planning but uses that talent for pranks.

Magic: She can easily wield wands. In fact she can wield four, and each is a replica of one of the Marauders’ wands. She can work well with any, but she seems to switch between wands depending on the original wielders’ innate talents. She uses James’ wand for Transfiguration, Lupin’s for defensive spells and Sirius’ for Charms. I haven’t seen her use Peter’s wand aside from when she wields the four of them at once. When dueling, she can wield any of the wands without a problem. Also unlike most people whose magical core would be strained using multiple wands, she suffers no ill effects.

Weaknesses: Her ink form is strong and hard to damage, but she is affected by ink solvants and liquids, making it harder for her to keep herself together, so she cannot be near large body or water or acidic potions.

While she has the mindset of the Four Marauders, near graduation when they started to mature and prior to Peter’s descent to darkness…she still has the arrogance and immaturity of the Marauders. While she hasn’t resorted to heavy bullying she can get carried away. She has enough empathy to acknowledge it at least.

Personality: Mischievous prankster, tends to be arrogant and prideful as well as a snarker. But is caring and loyal, chivalrous and brave and doesn’t hesitate to stand up for others. Fun-loving and cares a lot for her family.

THE CLOAK OF INVISIBILITY AKA ‘CLOAK’

The Cloak of Invisibility, one of the Deathly Hallows of Legend, and a heirloom of the Potter family. As a heirloom, Harry would have an emotional connection to it.

Classification: I’ll have to classify her as a Sentient Construct, not unlike Maps.

Biology: She consists entirely out of Demiguise hair and Thestral hair. While she appears human, she is a full on cloth-based construct.

Diet: Like Maps she is needless and doesn’t need food. She can eat though and only does it because she enjoys it even if it does nothing for her. After meeting with Luna Lovegood, she has gained a taste for pudding.

Abilities: Just like before, she can turn invisible at will but no longer needs to be wrapped around someone to do so herself. She now can turn people invisible by keeping physical contact. Though she can turn multiple people invisible, she has a limit. Up to now she has turned seven people plus herself invisible but was tired afterwards. She can regain her power by merely resting.

She also is still imbued with the same protective spells so she can’t be jinxed, destroyed or summoned. The cloth material while light is durable and strong and can easily be used to throw people around or bind them tightly.

She is also able to turn into a Veil of Death, dragging people in the great beyond into her folds. It is even able to get rid of Dementors.

Intelligence: She has a thousand years of knowledge, due to her longevity. While she isn’t specialized, she is a jack of all trades, having general knowledge about everything but master of none. Can easily sit her NEWTs if she wanted to.

Magic: She can wield a wand like any Witch or Wizard. While hers isn’t as powerful, hers is made from the same type of wood and wand core the Elder Wand, her sibling, has.

Weaknesses: I have found none. Nearly invulnerable, magic, true invisibility and a gateway to death…I doubt there are any ways to counter her.

Personality: Soft spoke, gentle, a bit shy. A total sweetheart, and a calming presence. Death isn’t violent. Death is peaceful.

FIREBOLT AKA ‘BOLT’

The Firebolt was a gift from Sirius Black for Harry. Hence he valued the gift, as well as connecting her to his love of flying, would have made her a fitting candidate for the transformation.

Classification: Like Maps I’ll have to classify her as a Sentient Construct, not unlike Maps and Cloak. She could toe the line in between being a Wood Elemental, but she has little in common with other Elementals of those types like Ents.

Biology: She is made entirely out of wood with a few metal elements that may have come for the foot stands of the original broom

Diet: Like Maps and Cloak she is needless and doesn’t need food. She can eat though and only does it because she enjoys it even if it does nothing for her. She seems to have a wider range of foods she likes compared to Harry’s other new family members, as she eats more then just bacon, sweets or pudding. She does seem to prefer high carb healthy foods, due to having the mindset of a pro athlete. So lots of rice, chicken and vegetables.

She does need maintenance so she goes through various products of a broom maintenance kit and needs some grooming once in a while

Abilities: Like before she has the power of flight. She is now much faster then before, and her speed also reflect on her running speed. She can move faster than you can blink.

Despite being made of wood, she is a very durable wood that is magically enhanced due to being a high end racing broom that needs said endurance. It is even better after transformation. It makes her more durable then she looks, and she is physically the strongest of the original batch of transformed.

As a broom, she is also equipped with standard protective spells and only powerful dark magic can directly affect her.

Intelligence: Limited knowledge. Can read and write, and has an encyclopedic knowledge about Quidditch, a thorough understanding of the physics and thermodynamics of flight and basic knowledge of spells that are relevant for broom owners or athletes. But in any other subject she is basically like a Muggleborn attending Hogwarts for the first time. It doesn’t mean she is stupid, she just didn’t come with a lot of knowledge and will be able to by if she studies.

Magic: She can channel magic but she can’t use a wand. However, due to being made of magical wood, not unlike actual wands, with a big enough magical cores she can just cast magic from her hands. After Fawkes provided countless feathers which she has woven into her body, she can cast like anyone else.

Weaknesses: Vulnerable to strong storm winds in flight. Needs to learn control over her top speed as she can’t easily turn and needs to hold back until she is able to become more maneuverable. Despite her endurance she is vulnerable to dark magic still.

Personality: Tomboyish, loud, boisterous and strong. Fondness for lame puns. Big on heart. Very sporty.

These are my notes for now. I will write more research about the transformed beings. Next batch will be the ones that were created when Harry visited me in the office; Sword of Gryffindor, Sorting Hat and Fawkes.
