The Letters

Loki was extremely nervous about the letter writing, to say the least. He doesn’t have a clue what to write. He sits down at his writing desk in his room surrounded by plants, papers, and pens.

After thinking for a few moments, he grips the glass pen and dips it in the ink.

“Dear King Thor,

I wanted to say thank you for the apple, it was delicious.

It warms my heart that you are considering me as a suitor.

I think you are the most handsome King, and I anxiously await your first letter.

Regards, Loki.”

Loki folds the letter in half and stuffs it in an envelope, and walks outside to tend to his garden.

As Loki walks outside, he is greeted by a soldier.

“Sir Loki,” says the soldier, handing him a letter.

Loki takes the letter in his hands and thanks the soldier with a simple “thank you,” and hands him his letter.

Loki half walks-half runs back into his home and practically rips open the letter.

“Dearest Loki,

I must admit, it makes me slightly nervous writing to you. You are one of the most beautiful Asgardians I have ever had the pleasure to meet.

I had the most wonderful time speaking in The Orchard with you.

I await your next letter, shy one.

Love, Thor.”

“Dear King Thor,

Thank you very kindly. I had a lovely time meeting in The Orchard, as well. Please tell me, what is your favorite meal to eat? Mine is toasted bread with avocados that I grow in my garden smeared atop with salt and pepper.

I have a lot of things in my garden, actually, different spices like rosemary, thyme, dill, and oregano.

Another thing I have a lot of is plants. I truly love each and every one. They all have names. Don’t tell them, but I do have a favorite – her name is Sylvia and she is a knockout rose from Midgard. I know that may not be so impressive to you since you’ve been to Midgard I assume several times now at this point but I have never been. I would love to go someday.

Your loyal subject, Loki.”

“Dearest Loki,

Your garden sounds absolutely precious. I would love to come and see it sometime, if I am ever allowed. Perhaps Sif will be able to arrange something similar to the last visit again before the week is up. You’d surely enjoy that, I presume?

And my favorite thing to drink is ale, and to eat, probably steak. A good and hearty steak is my truest favorite.

I have been to Midgard, many times at that, but it is surprising to me that an Asgardian such as yourself has the resources if not in the kingdom, as a civilian.

But, someone as kind and as bashful as you I’m sure has the proper channels to go through to get exactly what you want. You strike me as the type to be shy at first, then strike when everyone least expects it.

With love, Thor.”

“Dear King Thor,

I suppose you could say I am a little spunky. I am shy at first, until I get to know you and your motives. I like to observe everything and everyone around me, as my father taught me to do. It has great advantages – listening does. Those who constantly speak and not listen are at a great disadvantage.

I figured as such – Midgard seems like such a magical place. I figure you’ve fought many battles within the nine realms themselves, anyway, and I admire your great courage of being such a warrior. It truly is admirable.

This is my last letter to you. I truly hope it finds you well, and I do hope we meet again.

Your loyal subject, Loki.”

“Dearest Loki,

I knew it was as such. You do seem like the observatory type as well. That is very smart to do – and a little tricky, as well. Could you be a little trickster, too? Or is that an incorrect guess?

I appreciate your kind words. I take great pride in all the battles fought, and won. Losses are things to learn from and I learn from every one of them.

I’d say I look forward to your next letter, but this is the last one, you are correct.

I do hope we meet again, as well, my beautiful subject.

Your King, Thor.”
