The Secret

It was the night before the Wedding Ceremony, and Loki was heartbroken.

He hasn’t heard a thing – he was hoping to be the one to marry King Thor. He would have surely heard something by now, wouldn’t he?

There was a knock at Loki’s door.

Loki sulks to the door and makes his way there begrudgingly, he turns the doorknob and is greeted by a soldier.

“Sir Loki, you have been chosen to wed King Thor. You are to be at The Palace at 5:00AM tomorrow to prepare and get ready, feel free to bring any family or friends with you in your party,” the solider says.

Loki just looks at the solider in disbelief, he cannot believe it. He’s going to marry King Thor!

The soldier nods and walks away. Loki closes the door behind himself and his mind is absolutely spinning. What is he possibly going to do? He’s elated, and absolutely at that, but at the same time, his mind is swirling of the negative possibilities. What about his parentage? What will his father think? He can’t say no to Thor, he was chosen.

Loki walks back to his room and sits on the foot of his bed, his head in his hands.

There is a knock at the bedroom window now.

Loki makes his way to the window, drawing back the blinds and shifting the window up to open it. There was Thor, in all his glory, in beautiful maroon robes with gold accents among his shoes and belt.

“Loki,” says Thor with a huge smile on his face, his cheeks blushed a sweet shade of crimson.

“Thor..” says Loki, climbing out of the window as his eyes well up with tears.

“Loki, what’s the matter, my sweet?” says Thor, taking Loki into his arms as Loki cries into his shoulder softly.

“Thor, I can’t. I can’t marry you. I can’t.”

“But why, Loki? Is this not what you wanted? It is certainly what I want. I didn’t write anyone else letters, I didn’t choose anyone but you. This must be your anxiousness – it is speaking for you,” says Thor.

“It isn’t, Thor, it’s not that-”

“What is it, then? You must be scared out of your little mind, I understand. All of the people you must meet. All of the tasks you will be assigned, all of the fittings for your royal robes, and..” Thor’s voice trailed off.

“Thor, there is something I have not told you,” says Loki, “and I cannot marry you until I speak of it.”

Thor looks at Loki with confusion swirling in his eyes, but agrees nonetheless. “Okay, tell me. Anything you speak of, it will be okay, Loki. I promise.”

Loki looks at Thor straight in the eyes, gazing up at him through glassy eyes and speaks in a serious tone.

“We must take the Bifrost to Jotunheim.”
