Rhodey: So Bucky
Sam: Who told you????
Rhodey: Little birdy told me he was at your house all day yesterday
Sam: I’m going to murder Sarah
Rhodey: You guys are a cute couple
Sam: Not a couple just friends.
Rhodey: I don’t hang out all day playing games with my friends.
Sam: Yes you do. Stop listening to Sarah.
Rhodey: Just saying
Sam: Just friends.
Rhodey: Whatever floats your boat Samsam. I’m just glad you're finally breaking out of your shell.
Sam: I don’t have a shell.
Rhodey: Forgot you prefer bird puns. Me, Riley and Bucky are gonna help you spread your wings ;)
Sam: Goodnight.
Rhodey: It’s literally 3.
3 WEEKS LATER.
As the school year progressed more and more Sam found himself spending more time with Bucky. They had a lot of classes together so they usually studied together at least twice a week but usually three or four days. Sam was becoming a regular guest at the Barnes household and the same thing was true for Bucky. Saturdays however were days that Sam reserved for visiting his grandfather in the senior center. He hadn’t been able to come as late because he was busy with college applications but now he had finally carved out time to see his grandpa and he was excited to say the least. He always had a great time with his grandfather.
“Look what the cat dragged in” An old man chuckled as he waved Sam and Sarah over to the empty table he was sitting at.
“Grandpa Wilson, You just saw us two weeks ago” Sarah grinned sliding into a chair
“Who are all these people here gramps” Sam asked hugging the man before sliding into a chair of his own
“These teenagers are doing a project where they get twenty volunteer hours just to hang out with the elderly” Mr. Wilson shrugged.Some boy and his sister who lead the whole thing already offered to play uno with me they just ran off to get a sheet off paper and a pen so we could keep score. There they go right now” Mr Wilson said pointing to none other than Bucky and Rebecca Barnes.
“Sarah. Don’t start.” Sam whispered to Sarah through clenched teeth
“Sam. Is that you” Bucky asked, setting the board game down but not waiting for a response. “If I didn’t know any better I’d think you were stalking me”
“In your dreams Barnes. I just came here to visit my grandpa”
“Brothers” Sarah whispered to Becca rolling her eyes
“You’re preaching to the choir”
“So I assume you all already know each other” Sam's grandfather said sounding amused from his set.”Perfect. Thats gonna make whopping on you youngsters way more fun.”
They ended up playing uno for over an hour and Bucky didn’t win a singular game. Eventually Becca wandered off to hang out with other seniors and Sarah and Mr.Wilsons wandered off to who knows where leaving just Sam and Bucky playing uno because Bucky refused to lose to Sam.
“Uno out. Sam 5 Bucky ZERO. You know Bucky you should be glad you’re cute because you're horrible at board games.” Sam chuckled and began to put up the card games.
“Yeah yeah yeah. You wanna get out of here and get some ice cream” Bucky said taking the cards from Sam’s hands
“Sure. Loser buys. And by that I mean you buy” Sam grinned praying that Bucky didn’t sense all the excitement in his voice.
MESSAGE TO: Sarah
Sam: Going to get ice cream with bucky. Don’t wait up
Sarah: You couldn’t have left a hour earlier????? Now i owe grandpa 20 dollars.
Sam: YOU TOLD GRANDPA??????
Sarah: Now i’m out twenty bucks
Sam: Nobody told you to bet with the elderly.
Bucky's Pov
So Samuel” Bucky said nudging Sam’s shoulder with his.
“So James”
“Have you ever had a boyfriend before” Bucky asked quietly
“Once. But it didn’t work out”
“And why’s that”
“He lied to me and I hate being lied to. I couldn’t trust him anymore so I had to end things I can’t trust a liar and I can’t be with someone who I can’t trust” Sam said matter of factly.
“What did he lie about?” Bucky asked trying to keep the fear out of his voice
“Someones curious” Sam chuckled “You lying to me about something Barnes”
“Could never lie to you doll” Bucky lied easily. He had to call off this bet he was in way too deep. There was no way he was going to be able to take things further with this whole bet thing. But on the other hand theres no way Sam was ever going to want to take things further with Bucky if he found out about the bet. Bucky was really in sticky situation.
From there Sam and Buckys conversation picked up and they found themselves talking about any and everything under the sun over ice cream. The time seemed to fly by and sooner than Bucky would have liked.
“Hey Bucky” Sam said grabbing Bucky's hand and stopping at the door of the senior center. “I’m really glad I met you” Sam said in an almost whisper like he would die if he said it any louder he lose the words. “I’ve never met anybody like you before” Sam smiled before pulling Bucky closer and gently pressing their lips together. Before Bucky could say anything to Sam he ran inside the senior center leaving Bucky alone with his thoughts. Bucky was in way too deep.
MESSAGE TO: THE BIG THREE
Bucky: bets off. Sam kissed me.
Steve: FINALLY. I thought you were losing your mind
Nat: knew you were gonna quit. Will you be telling sam the reason you started talking to him
Bucky: ......
Nat: Barnes.
Bucky: If i tell him he’s gonna be sad. I think the best plan is to call of the bet and pretend it never happened.
Nat: Good thing you don’t get paid to think
Steve: Good point
Nat: You two are morons. You can’t build a relationship
Steve: Technically he already did
Bucky: Theoretically I didn’t build anything off a lie. Sam never explicitly asked me whether or not i started talking to him for a bet. So no lie here just a little misconception
Nat: Same thing. What are you gonna do when Sam finds out. Half the school already knows its a bet its only a matter of time.
Bucky: its gonna be fine.
Bucky slammed his phone down on his bed with a huff. This was all so unnecessarily difficult for no reason. He should have never made that stupid bet with clint. Sam was cute and sweet and everything good. Bucky just didn’t know how he could tell Sam about the bet while keeping him in his life at the same time. Senior year was not supposed to be like this. Bucky picked his phone up and saw he had a message from Sam and immediately felt bad all over again.
MESSAGE TO: bet
Bet: Hi Bucky this is Sam. I’m so sorry I kissed you. I understand if you dont like me the way I like you. Also I am so sorry for kissing you and running away and also I am super sorry if i made you uncomfortable. Have a nice night. I’m sorry.
Bucky seeing Sam be this apologetic honestly made his heart hurt. Sam was such a good guy even when he thought he messed up he was still such a sweet guy. Bucky decided he’d talk to Sam and come clean and pray to every god imaginable that Sam can find in his heart to forgive him.

Samsam <3 : Hi Bucky this is Sam. I’m so sorry I kissed you. I understand if you dont like me the way I like you. Also I am so sorry for kissing you and running away and also I am super sorry if i made you uncomfortable. Have a nice night. I’m sorry.

Sam reread Bucky’s message over and over again and tried not to let his tears fall. He really thought Bucky liked him
