tea will survive.
Tea laid asleep in their shared bed, the bed they shared with their beloved partner, Venus.
They stirred around in bed a bit, feeling hands on their shoulder and waist shaking them. They slowly opened their eyes to the sight of brown hair and a worried face. Venus...
“Tea!! Wake up! Please I need you to wake up!” were the first words they heard once they fully gained consciousness.
They sat up straight and groaned, the lights were still off. At least Venus cared about their eyesight. They looked at their partner, drinking in the worried look on their face, waiting for their brain to register the screaming and worry.
“V-...Venus...? What time is it...?” they said, “Tea!!” replied Venus. It was the same they had been saying for what feels like the past hour. “Come on tea we don’t have work tomorrow. And I..” they looked to the side, “I need to tell you something.”
Tea sighed and looked to the opposite side of Venus, tilting their head a bit. “Fine fine. What's wrong?” They looked over at Venus hesitantly.
Venus took a shaky breath and held Tea’s hand gently. “Tea I'm...” tears started forming in their eyes.
“I'm pregnant”
The whole room went silent for a minute, a minute that felt like forever.
After a while tea finally spoke up.
“Haha. Real funny Venus, what's the real reason you woke me up so late...” they were met with silence. “Venus, that’s not...” they went silent making Venus frown even more.
“...not..joking..? Tea said they hadn't even noticed the fact they stopped breathing. “I just took a pregnancy test and-” Venus got cut off by tea hugging them.
“Venus! This is the happiest day of my life!” Tea tightened their hold on Venus as if making sure they would never leave them “I love you, Venus! I love you so much!” they giggled, swaying Venus side to side “you've made me the happiest person alive!”
It was too much to handle. “Tea! Tea please, stop!” worried, tea let go quickly. “I'm sorry I'm sorry! Did I hurt you?” they asked, frowning.
“No...no you didn’t, that isn't the problem...” Venus looked to the side, frowning in shame. “Problem? venus what are you talking about. Is it because we’re both biologically the same gender? Wait. How did you even get preg-” “tea please. Shut up. That isn't what I meant...”
Tea frowned even more, “I don’t understand...” they dropped their head down a bit, still looking at Venus. “Tea please, don’t make things worse for us.”
“Venus...? What are you talking about?” Tea stepped back a bit, getting a better view of Venus’ body, trying to understand what was wrong. “Tea I...”
“I don’t want this child!”
Tea looked at Venus in shock. The whole world seemed to have gone quiet at what Venus had just dropped.
“NO! I-I can't believe you just said that!” Tea looked at Venus, an almost angry look on their face. “Tea please, hear me out!” Venus almost burst out crying right then and there.
Tea grabbed Venus by the shoulders and looked at the ground “please tell me I heard that wrong! Tell me Venus, I'm just hearing stuff, right?!” “Tea please let me explain!”
“Then explain yourself! Why don’t you want this baby!?” tea looked at Venus, it was clear they were upset. Everyone in the apartment must've been upset at all the noise.
“Tea. There's no ‘baby’ yet. I'm in my first month-” they got cut off, “so you decided that this was going to be your last month?”
“I-...Okay, let's talk about this like adults.” tea sat down on the couch next to them, looking up at tea “right?”
Nothing.
“...right...?” tea furrowed their brows before answering “right. Tell your story.”
“Thanks,” Venus inhaled and sighed before continuing, “well. At first, I believed I couldn’t get pregnant, since you know. It's not possible. But I was wrong.” they looked away
“I’m not understanding.” Tea said, their voice showed more emotion than usual.
“I still don’t understand why you-” “Because I'm afraid Tea!”
Another pause. “...you're afraid of what.” A few tears rolled down Venus’ cheek “my career. This baby...it could really make a big impact on my job! I could lose my job, tea!” Venus held their hands to their chest, Tea just watched.
“...I thought I knew you. I was wrong.” Tea glared at Venus before walking away from them. Venus stood up and froze before speaking. “You...you don’t have the right to say that to me!”
Tea stopped in their tracks, looking at Venus in utter disgust. “You know me tea! You know I can't have this baby! You know that my job...you know my job is too important!”
“...you're right, I do know. I know you’d kill our baby for this job.”
Venus stood in shock, rage overpowering all control they had over themselves. They slapped tea, sending them to the ground
Tea made no sound; they laid there. Still as a rock. Venus gasped and fell to the ground next to tea, “Tea! I'm so sorry! I lost my temper I-” “...shut up.”
Was the only things Tea said before standing up and grabbing a bag that was next to them.
“Tea...?” Venus stayed on their knees, watching tea’s every movement.” They watched tea open the drawer and grab a few outfits. “What are you...”
Once Venus realized what tea was doing, they got up and ran over to them. “Tea, I beg you, please forgive me! You don’t need to do that; I didn’t want to hurt you!” They needed a moment to breathe.
“Please don’t leave me this way! I need you! I need you now more than ever! Please tea trust me when I say I still love you!”
Tea didn’t say a thing. They walked over to the door, stopping right in front of it.
“Venus, is there any chance you’ll change your mind about this? Give this baby a chance to live?” Tea looked over at Venus, Venus looked at Tea with pleading eyes. “...it's useless tea, I'm not changing my mind.”
“...then neither will I.” Tea looked back at the door, hesitantly opening it.
“Tea please! Don’t leave me I'm begging you!” Venus ran over to tea
But like they just said
It was useless.
“You should've kept it a secret, Venus. Goodbye.” Without another word tea walked out and slammed the door behind them, leaving Venus to claw, cry, and beg for them to come back. Beg for them to not leave.
Tea looked back at the place they once called home, they looked down at their feet. “...I... I will survive.”
they took one last look at the place they once shared with the person they once called theirs and walked away.
