Chapter 1
LOVE IS a fickle and fleeting thing, it comes and goes, it changes and it evolves, but in some cases love lasts forever. well, at least in miguel o'hara's case.
immortality is both a blessing and a curse, for all his life miguel viewed his immortality as a curse. he has watched countless of friends and family die, the pain of being always the one left standing weighs heavily on his heart. but when miguel met the love of his life, his curse slowly became a blessing.
when miguel o'hara first met the love of his life he was 24, well 2400 actually, and she was 20, just 20. miguel first met (y/n) guerrera when she was thrown onto the ground in the middle of the village after being accused for practicing witchcraft. when his red orbs met her (e/c) ones, miguel felt a fluttering in his chest, almost as if his long dead heart started beating again. when the townsfolk started picking up rocks to stone her, miguel immediately threw himself in front of (y/n). he denied the claims of her practicing witchcraft and came up with a lie about her being his bride, since his family is well known and respected in the village, the people believed him and left (y/n) alone.
miguel and (y/n) agreed to keep up the act of being a couple for a few days but then a few days turned into couple of weeks, and a couple weeks turned into months. eventually they fell in love, and got married.
when (y/n) first learned about miguel's lineage, she actually didn't care. she loved the man with all her life, she didn't care if he was a bloodsucking immortal vigilante who has been protecting the village and it's people from harm, she loved him. the moment miguel offered her to be converted into his kind she didn't even hesitate and immediately accepted his offer.
miguel and (y/n) o'hara have lived hundreds of years and not once did they mind aging differently than the people around them, sure losing countless of people they love because of old age sucks, but at least they had each other and for them that was enough. their family of two soon welcomed a third member, a daughter, and the o'hara's couldn't be happier.
when gabriella o'hara was born, miguel and (y/n) decided to retire from being the village's protectors and built their home deep inside the forest. they then spent their days tending to their daughter, making sure she grew up in a home filled with joy and love. for the o'hara's it was the best of times, the happiest of times, it's just such a shame that it had to end.
Β
ON ONE chilly october night, the o'hara's are in the nursery of their manor. (y/n) rocked a baby gabriella in her arms while miguel sat next to her, reading his favorite childhood book to his daughter. suddenly, a loud banging came from their front door. (y/n) carefully placed gabriella into her crib, she looked out of the nursery's window with miguel following closely behind her. below them were a mob of villagers, (y/n) volunteered to go down and talk to them but miguel was already standing outside the nursery and insisted he be the one to go down.
(y/n) watched her husband as he talked to the mob outside their home, she grew restless as each minute goes by and a small voice in her head keeps telling her something's wrong.
"salem," she called out quietly.
almost instantly a large black cat appeared on the windowsill beside her.
"you called (y/n)?" the cat responded in a lazy voice.
(y/n) looked at her daughter and back to the mob, "can you keep an eye on gabriella for me sweetheart?" she asks to which the cat responded with a nod.
miguel is starting to get pissed, he gripped the door handle tightly. the man leading the mob kept accusing him and his family of satanism and witchcraft because they refused to interact with the townfolk and chose to mind their own business, and also due to the fact that the o'hara's basically lived in the middle of a 'haunted forest' and chose to wear clothes in darker shades.
"sir," miguel calmly spoke. "i assure you for the last time, me and my family are completely normalβ"
a loud familiar scream came inside the manor, cutting miguel off. his blood ran cold as he heard his wife scream bloody murder. miguel looked at the mob in front of him and saw them grin menacingly at him. quickly, he rushed towards (y/n)'s voice and found her cornered by another group of people, the only difference is they had torches with them.
"leave my wife alone!" miguel shouted, but before he could do anything, somebody threw their torch in front of (y/n), trapping her into a corner as the ground erupted into flames. soon enough, the rest of the mob started throwing the torches they brought. once the o'hara manor got engulfed in flames, the townsfolk left as quickly as they came.
"shit," miguel cursed as fumes started to fill his lungs. he somehow managed to get (y/n) out of the corner she was trapped in and they both ran through the halls of their home as it quickly collapses.
"i asked salem to take care of gabriella," (y/n) coughed out. "i'm pretty sure the moment he heard me scream he took our daughter somewhere safe."
miguel nodded as they try to find a way out. down the hall was an exit, it was the only one that hasn't been covered by debris. the couple immediately ran for it, but unfortunately a large piece of burning wood fell on top of (y/n). miguel looked back the moment she let out a pained cry, he felt his heart shatter as he saw his wife under the burning piece of wood. he immediately ran towards her and tried to think of a way to get the debris off of his wife.
"miguel," (y/n) called out between sobs. "you need to go, just leave me here please."
miguel shakes his head as he struggled to get her out. "no, i am not leaving you here. we can both make it out alive,"
(y/n) gave miguel a small pained smile as she shakes her head, "the longer you stay here and try to get me out the lower your chances are of getting out miguel. please, just leave me here my love. our daughter needs you. i'd rather have you save yourself and raise gabriella than staying here to save me. we both know i'd still die either way miguel, please go."
tears stream down miguel's face, he knelt down and grabbed his wife's hand. he placed a kiss on top of it and held it tightly, "te quiero mucho mi amor. prometo cuidar de nuestra hija por ti, harΓ© todo lo que estΓ© a mi alcance para mantenerla a salvo. lo siento."
miguel heard (y/n) whisper a soft "i love you" before he felt her band go limp, he then quickly ran outside of the burning manor.
that october night, miguel o'hara left his heart in the ruins of what once was his family home. he also lost his compassion for humanity, the race he and his family once swore to watch over were the ones who killed his wife and endangered his daughter's life. he vowed to cut off all anything that has to do with the human race.
miguel ended up taking salem and gabriella up north, away from all the human. he then started building a manor, one similar to the one he and his wife once built. the only difference is that he enchanted this one, making it invisible to the naked eye and almost impossible to be trespassed by anyone other than his kind.
for years, miguel o'hara lived peacefully in isolation with his daughter and the cat of his dead wife (minus the occasional visits from his immortal friends every other decade), he didn't really care for anyone or anything outside his manor. but that was until she showed up.
