Chapter 2
"WHERE IS my daughter?!?" miguel screamed, baring his fangs out at salem (his dead wife's cat) and lyla (a faerie-like creature he took in after finding her half-dead outside the manor). the two creatures were trying their best to calm the huge man down but it only made him a lot angrier.
"i trusted the both of you to accomplish one simple task," he fumed. "watch over a one year oldβ"
"technically the kid is a hundred but go on," salem lazily says, cutting miguel off. lyla groaned and flew in front of miguel before he could lash out on salem. "we'll go look for her right now, i'm pretty sure she's just inside the manor."
miguel pinched the bridge of his nose as he dismissed salem and lyla then proceeded to go look for his daughter. the moment salem appeared in the middle of an important meeting between miguel and the rest of the society to let him know that his 1(00) year old daughter was nowhere to he found, his blood ran cold. he immediately dismissed the meeting and headed home to go look for his daughter. he and the two creatures spent two hours trying to find gabriella but couldn't find her, miguel has turned the whole place upside down but there was still no sign of his daughter.
"shit," he muttered looking out the window. it's almost sunrise. his daughter still hasn't been found which could only mean one thing, gabriella must have somehow gotten outside and is probably lost deep within the woods.
miguel knew he had to hurry and go find his daughter before the sun rose which is probably in an hour or something. he grabbed his cloak from the coat rack and walked towards the door, but the moment his hand gripped the doorknob somebody knocked on the door.
Β
A BURST of pain shot through (y/n)'s legs as she desperately tried to escape the dark forest after basically being sacrificed by her town to whatever monsters resides in the woods. the town's livestock have been mysteriously disappearing lately and are being found dead at the edge of the forest with their blood sucked out of them. so the townsfolk decided to sacrifice a human offering to whatever lives within the forest, and they unanimously picked (y/n). why? because she's an orphan who was randomly accused of using witchcraft ever since her parents died from an unknown disease.
itβs been three hours since she was dumped in the forest with only a lamp to navigate her way through the woods. the candle in the lamp was almost gone but itβs only an hour or two until sunrise which made (y/n) feel slightly better about the situation, the only thing she needs to worry about at this point is to find a safe place for her to stay until sunrise.
as (y/n) continued to walk mindlessly in the forest she heard a small cry, it sounded as if it came from a child. at first she really wanted to ignore it and go on her way, but guilt and familiarity struck her. what if this child is like her? dumped in the forest by the people she once called family. she followed the cries of the child until eventually she found a small girl, she looked to be about one or two years old.
βpoor baby,β (y/n) whispered as she walked towards the crying child.
the toddler looked at her, her sobs gradually came to a stop as she spotted (y/n). she crawled over to her and lifted her arms up, telling the woman that she wants to be picked up.
(y/n) carefully picked the toddler up, she felt a pang of sadness as the kid rested itβs head on her chest. βyouβre safe now sweetheart,β (y/n) murmured as she soothingly rubbed circles against the childβs back.
as she continued to walk, (y/n) studied the toddler who fell asleep in her arms. the cute little girl had brown curly-ish hair that are in neat pigtails, tan skin, and was wearing a cute black onesie. she looked too clean to have been abandoned or something, her parents might have lost her. that was the thing that went through (y/n)βs mind, so she kept walking and walking in hopes to find the girlβs parents.
after about thirty minutes of walking, (y/n) stumbled upon a huge manor. the lights inside are on and she saw a figure of a man that walked back in fort in what seems to be the living room.
βis this your house sweetheart?β she quietly asked the toddler in her arms. the small girl looked at the manor in front of them and lifted her arms up, her small hands closing and opening. a small chuckle left (y/n)βs lips as she started to walk towards the front doors, another wave of pain shot through her legs as she knocked on the door, fatigue finally settling into her body.
Β
MIGUEL FELT a flutter in his chest when he opened the front door, his emotions were all over the place as he felt joy, pain, and longing at the same time. in front of him was his wife, or someone who looked like his late wife, her reincarnation. when his red eyes met her (e/c) ones he felt a jolt of electricity spur in his chest, the same one he felt when he first met her all those years ago.
βexcuse me, i just wanted to ask if you lost your daughter?β her soft voice pulled him away from his thoughts. miguel finally noticed the toddler the woman was holding in her arms, his wifeβs reincarnation has found their daughterβ his daughter and have brought her safely back to him.
miguel letβs out a sigh of relief as he grabbed his daughter. βgabriella, mi bebΓ©, estaba tan preocupada.β he murmured as he pressed soft kisses on her daughterβs head. miguel looked at the woman in front of him, βthank you for finding my daughter.β
βdonβt worry about it,β (y/n) letβs out a weak chuckle as she leaned on the doorframe, hiding the fact that her legs were killing her. βiβm glad i could find the sweet angelβs father.β
miguel nodded, taking note of how she shifted between her feet until she decided to lean on the doorframe. βare you okay msβ¦?β he asked, voice filled with concern.
βiβm fine and please call me (y/n),β she replied, giving miguel a small smile. βwell now that youβve found your daughter i might as well get going.β
βwait!β miguel called out as she turned around about to walk away. βare you sure you donβt want to come in for a bit? you look tired, and itβs still darkββ
miguel was cut off by (y/n) who fainted, falling to the ground. he called out for salem and lyla who immediately appeared in front of him, the two creatures seemed genuinely concerned until they saw miguel holding gabriella.
βyou found her?β lyla asked as she letβs out a sigh of relief, floating over to check on the child.
miguel passed gabriella to lyla who immediately turned human size, holding lyla in her arms. miguel then rushed to (y/n)βs side, scooping her up in his arms.
βmiguel what isββ salem interrogated, but the moment he saw the face of the woman in miguelβs arms his jaw dropped. the cat started to tear up as he saw his old mistress, he looked at miguel who avoided his and lylaβs look as he brought (y/n)βs unconscious body inside the manor.
βhow is this possible,β the black cat questioned as he followed miguel inside, struggling to keep up with miguelβs pace. βis sheβ?β
miguel shakes his head as he placed (y/n) on the bed inside the infirmary. βsheβsβ¦ not her but at the same time she is,β he quietly told salem as he check her vitals.
βreincarnation then?β salem asked, watching as miguel checks (y/n) pulse.
miguel shrugged. βprobably.β
βwell what do you plan on doing?β
miguel tore his eyes away from sleeping figure in front of him, his gaze landing on the black cat. he burried his head in his hands as tears swell up in his eyes. βi donβt know. the only thing iβm sure of is that gabriella and i lost her once, and iβm not letting her go ever again.β
