Part 2

Pav, Gwen, and Wendy are all walking around the spider society. They were in a part of the society where they could research villains and other things that would be important to know. Gwen and Pav were off in one corner and making their way slowly to Wendy who was using the screens to search for something in particular. She looked focused as she scrolled through various articles and information.

She was looking for what villains could be in store for Pav. If she compared some of the things in her universe and other universes, then maybe she could predict a little of what might happen to him. He was still somewhat naive to how hard it is to be a spider and she wanted to prepare him a little for what was to come. It was the first two weeks Pav’s been spiderman and Wendy has been his mentor for one week.

Gwen and Pav, however, were talking about something else.

Gwen: So what do you think of Miguel so far? Have you had time to talk to him?

Pav: Not really. He just seems so…serious. It’s hard to judge what he’s thinking like ever.

Gwen: (Laughs) I don’t think I’ve ever seen him smile.

Pav: Yeah, what’s up with that?

Wendy: Didn’t you learn that at like, what is it called? Spider orientation? Man has been through a lot more than you could ever imagine.

Gwen: I thought you were focusing on what you were looking for.

Wendy: I can multitask.

Pav: What has he been through?

Wendy: I don’t think I can speak on that. You’re going to have to muster up the courage to ask him yourself.

Gwen: We’ve all been through a lot too. Why does his grief outweigh ours?

Wendy: To be honest, grief is not a “who has had it worse” contest. Every person is hit by grief in a different way. No one person has had it worse than another. He just so happens to…use his to try to improve the multiverse. Though I’m not sure how accurate his theories are. He seems to stray further and further from his vision every day.

Gwen: How so?

Wendy stops scrolling for a minute to realize what she’s saying.

Wendy: You know what, I probably shouldn’t be telling you guys this. Don’t let me hear you telling others what I told you. Got it? Change the subject please.

Gwen: Okay. Got it.

There’s a long silence before anyone speaks.

Pav: Hey, do you ever wonder what Miguel has in his fangs? I mean, I’ve seen them pointing out of his mouth, but I’ve never known what they were for.

Gwen: You know, I’ve noticed it, but never really gave it much thought.

Without thinking, Wendy answers them.

Wendy: His fangs secrete venom that can paralyze his foes. I should know.

Pav and Gwen look at each other.

Pav: Whaaatt does that mean?

Wendy finally turns around.

Wendy: What?

Gwen: You said “I should know.”

Wendy’s face turns beet red and she looks back at the screen to try to hide it within the blue light.

Wendy: You are not privy to that information. Forget I said it.

Pav: Oh my gosh, no way. You’ve totally been bitten by him before! That’s so weird.

Wendy: No I haven’t.

Gwen: You are an incredibly bad liar. Where did he bite you?

Wendy: Honestly that’s none of your business. All I’ll tell you is curiosity killed, well almost killed, the spider. I...asked him to bite me on the neck.

Gwen: You “asked” him and he actually did it? I didn’t think Miguel had it in him to do something like that. When did you say this was again?

Wendy swiftly changes the subject and closes the screen. She downloaded all the information she needed on her gizmo and turned toward the two teens to lead them out of the area.

Wendy: Okay, Pav, I got everything I need. Let’s get to actually looking at this stuff. It might take us a while.

Pav: Awwe, you’re not going to tell us more about Miguel? How long did it take to neutralize the venom in your bite?

Wendy: I said we’re not talking about that. Now, please, drop it.

Pav: Okay, fine. But now we know you’re not as by the book or calm as you may seem.

Wendy: What ever made you think I was by the book?

Pav: The way you carry yourself. You’re all stern and serious sometimes too.

Gwen: I’ve seen her when she’s really angry. Maybe when you see that you’ll change your mind.

Wendy: Let’s go guys. We have a lot of work to do. Jess has given me the task of training you too, Gwen. It’ll be perfect to have you two train together to see what your dynamic is. You ready?

Gwen: Ready as I’ll ever be.

Pav: You’ve got it, captain!
