Hidden Injury Part 1
Wendy, Pav and Hobie walk into the lobby of the spider society. The two boys were in front and Wendy trailed behind slightly. They just got back from a mission that needed all three of them. It was quite the unruly anomaly and Miguel sent all three of them. He said it would make for good training. It’s been about three months since Pav joined the Spider Society.
Pav: I’m starving. Hopefully they have something good for lunch.
Hobie: You’ll learn that the cafeteria here is filled with a bunch of rubbish.
Pav: It can’t be that bad, can it?
Hobie: Yeah. You’d be surprised. Right Wendy? You don’t like the stuff they got here either.
Hobie turned to Wendy and noticed something was off immediately. Her face was pale and sweat was running down it and she didn’t look good.
Hobie: Wendy?
Wendy: I feel sick.
Wendy collapsed to her hands and knees and the blood she was hiding finally showed from underneath her hoodie. Some of it splattered to the floor in a giant puddle.
Pav: Wendy!
Hobie knelt down next to her, his hands on her shoulders and trying to steady her. The rest of the spiders around them froze and watched in horror as Wendy lost more and more blood. Hobie was able to pull his gizmo out and call for help.
Hobie: Jess, we need a doctor, now!
Jess: What happened? What’s going on?
Hobie: That doesn’t really matter, does it? Get someone here quick.
He shut off his gizmo and paid attention to Wendy once more.
Hobie: Come on, girl, stay with me.

As Wendy’s vision blurred more and more and she got dizzier she was trying her best to keep her eyes open.
Wendy: (said weakly) I’m trying. I promise, I’m trying.
It didn’t take long after that for a doctor arriving with Jess on her motorcycle and Miguel himself to appear in the small clearing surrounding Wendy, Hobie, and Pav. The doctor immediately got to work on Wendy, by gently laying her on her back and cutting her hoodie to reveal the large gash just under her chest. Pav turned around as he saw the gash in all its glory and Hobie closed his eyes for a second.
Miguel: What happened to her?
Hobie: (said under his breath) A bit daft, innit?
Miguel: What was that?
Hobie: If I knew I would tell you! I didn’t see what happened.
Miguel: You were supposed to look out for each other on that mission. That anomaly was dangerous. I knew I should have sent more people with you.
Jess: Stop. Just stop. You can’t argue it now.
Miguel wanted to argue more, but knew Jess was right. He begrudgingly stopped arguing with Hobie and turned his attention toward the doctor and Wendy. Wendy now had her eyes closed and looked like she was sleeping. The doctor was getting the blood cleaned up, but they looked worried. Miguel’s heart sank.
Miguel: Doc, what’s going on?
The doctor shook their head.
Doctor: We need to get her to a room now. She’s lost so much blood already.
Miguel turned toward the spiders around them. He switched on his gizmo and started to speak.
Miguel: Everyone, clear out now. We need to make the clearest path to the infirmary as we can.
The spiders cleared the way for the doctor, Miguel, and Wendy on a digital stretcher to get through.
Pav: Is she going to be okay?
Jess pats his back
Jess: With Miguel watching? She’s going to be just fine.
