Hidden Injury Part 2
Wendy is sitting upright in a hospital bed at the spider society drinking some water and trying her best not to stretch her stitches. Someone had gone to check on her universe and inform Gwen of what happened. Thankfully it was a weekend when she left.
She was sitting alone when Hobie and Pav walked in. Pav nearly burst into tears seeing her and ran up to her and Hobie smiled and waved. Pav gave her a small hug without stretching her stitches too much.
Pav: I can’t believe you’re okay!
Wendy: You bet I am! Did you think any differently?
Pav: YES!
Hobie: (Said at the same time as Pav) Well you did give us a good scare. So there’s that. What happened anyway?
Wendy: I was cut by the anomaly as a last ditch effort to get one of us before they went back to their dimension. By the time the adrenaline wore off and the pain registered we were in the lobby.
Pav: So you didn’t feel anything before that?
Wendy: Not really. I felt like I got punched more than anything.
Miguel was walking in the room and heard the last bit of the conversation. Everyone turned to look.
Miguel: Be a bit more careful next time. You want to set a good example. I’m…glad you’re okay.
Wendy: Thanks? I guess.
Miguel: You know what I mean.
Wendy: Okay, I’ll pretend that I do…how much blood did I lose?
Miguel looked between Hobie and Pav who had their eyes averted to the side or down at their hands. They knew the answers already.
Miguel: You almost died. I was afraid we were going to have to tell Gwen the bad news.
Wendy gulped hard and let out a large, shaky sigh. How deep had that anomaly cut her?
Wendy: Wow. That’s…just wow. I’m sorry about that.
Miguel: No need to apologize. Just…get better soon.
With that he left, leaving the three still there in silence. They were too scared or shy to say anything and Wendy soon had to break the ice.
Wendy: You know if he didn’t look so constipated all the time, people would actually believe him when he wishes them well.
Hobie: I wasn’t going to say it! She said it!
Pave: Honestly, I’d have to agree.
Wendy: He cares deep down. You just have to get through all the trauma and logic. I believe he’s good inside.
Pav: How can you tell?
Wendy: Because he’s been nice before. Why shouldn’t he still have that in there somewhere?
Hobie: You’re too trusting of people sometimes, Wendy. That’ll get you in trouble one day.
There was a short silence as they let what Hobie said set in.
Hobie: We’ll see you later, alright? Get better and don’t hide wounds again.
Wendy: (Said sarcastically) I’ll have to remember that next time I get cut by an anomaly.
Pav: Tell us when you get out so we can actually go get lunch.
They both wave goodbye and left Wendy to her lonesome to contemplate what Miguel was all about.
