Curse come true
Wendy: Move! Move! MOVE!
As the building crumpled around them, Wendy pushed the other spiders ahead of her trying to get them safely out of the way. Then there was darkness as debris fell on top of them and they could barely see with the dust and chaos. Miguel was the one who had brought the building to the ground by using his fearsome claws and spider webs to destabilize it. It seemed like he didn’t care that the spiders were in there. It was in a suburban area of the city but the building was still two stories. Think an abandoned school building a little bit outside the city.
Miguel had been chasing them this whole time and he was out for blood. They found the band after they found Miles and they were now stuck in the Earth 42 universe. Miles 42 and Aaron 42 were off trying to distract the other Spider Society members who followed Miguel there. And Miguel personally saw to it that he ended the Earth 1610 Miles himself. Hobie, Gwen, Pavitr, Miles, and Wendy were in the building in an effort to hide Miles somewhere Miguel couldn’t find them. Peter B. Parker and the others split up to help Miles 42 and Aaron 42 to distract the others, but they’d all decided to meet up at another said location before the turn of events.
When the dust settled and the building stopped falling, Gwen was the first one to pop her head up and look around her. She ripped her mask off and took in the rubble and the damaged buildings surrounding the lone building.
Gwen: Is everyone okay? Are you all there?
One by one Hobie, Pavitr and Miles popped their heads out of the rubble and ripped off their masks to get more air. Miles ran up to Gwen and hugged her.
Miles: I’m here and I’m okay. Oh my god that was crazy. He nearly killed us!
Gwen: I don’t know what he’s thinking now. Does he want us dead or does he want us to go back to the Spider Society? I’m so confused.
Miles: We can get-
Hobie helped Pavitr up from the pile of rubble nearest them.
Pavitr: Guys, where’s Wendy?
Dead silence between the spiders as they all realized the mentor was nowhere to be found. Their hearts dropped as they realized further that they couldn’t hear her. Immediately they split up, their hearts beating fast.
Hobie: Wendy Bird! Where are you?
Gwen: Wendy! If this is a joke it isn’t funny!
Miles: We’re here! We’re going to find you!
Pavitr: Wendy! Please answer!
As they got closer to one part of the debris and rubble, a shaky hand lifted up from the ground and a hoarse voice could be heard.
Wendy: I’m…here!
Pavitr was the first one over to where Wendy’s voice was coming from and what he saw broke him down almost instantly. Wendy was laying under a bunch of rubble bricks, wood, piping you name it. But that wasn’t the most harrowing part. If the weight hadn’t crushed her, the pipe that impaled her through the abdomen was surely to kill her. A pool of blood surrounded her form and stained most of her clothing. Her face mask was pulled off when the building fell.
Pavitr: GUYS! HELP! She’s here!
Pavitr’s cries were the worst anyone had ever heard and struck them to the core. All three of the other spiders immediately ran to where he was at and finally saw the outcome of the chaos. Gwen let out a scream. Hobie took a couple steps back before his knees gave out from under him. Miles bent over, a wave of nausea crashing into him.
Miles: I think I’m going to be sick.
Wendy was convulsing from the sheer amount of pain she was feeling, but she was still able to smile though blood coated her teeth.
Wendy: It’s…it’s going to be okay. You’re going…to be okay.
Pavitr: How can you SAY that? You’re dying right before my eyes!
Gwen carefully starts to move the broken pieces from Wendy’s body to see the wound fully. She tries her best with a spare cloth to get the bleeding to stop, but it only causes Wendy more pain. Pavitr kneels down to her and takes her hand in his. She slowly turns her head to look at him.
Wendy: You’ve done…so good. I am very proud of you. Look at how…you’ve grown.
Pavitr: We need to get you help! Stop complimenting me and save your energy! We’re going to get you out of here!
Tears are now spilling out of his eyes and his hands are shaking almost as much as Wendy’s.
Wendy: Listen to me…Pavitr. I don’t have much time.
Pavitr: Don’t say that! Please don’t say that! (Turning to Hobie) Hobie, tell her she’s wrong!
Hobie is still on the ground, shock taking over his whole body.
Hobie: It’s not looking good, mate. It’s not looking good.
Wendy: Pavitr…
She says this and Pavitr turns back to her. She was getting weaker. The strength in the hand Pavitr was holding was barely there and she was very pale. She’s lost so much blood already.
Wendy: You…are going to do great things. Okay? Don’t blame…yourself. We knew this would….this would happen eventually.
Pavitr: It didn’t have to happen this way! There could have been other ways!
Wendy: I-I know…I’m just…I’m trying to make myself…feel better.
Another long pause as Wendy gathers the last of her strength to say two more things.
Wendy: Is…is everyone safe?
Gwen: We’re all here, Wendy. We’re safe.
Wendy: Good…
With her last word, Wendy let’s go. Her body goes limp, including the hand Pavitr is holding onto, her eyes cease to see, and her chest stops moving. Realizing this, Pavitr loses it.
Pavitr: Wendy! WENDY, NO! Please don’t go! PLEASE DON’T LEAVE ME HERE!
Hobie picks Pavitr up off the ground from around his waist and Pavitr holds onto his arms as he wails and cries out loud. His sobs and screams echo throughout the surrounding neighborhoods finally alerting Miguel and the rest of the spiders and others who came back (Peter B. Parker, Spyder Byte, Jess, Miles 42, Aaron 42, Peni Parker, Noir)
Gwen: Is this what you wanted? Is this canon enough for you?! (screaming at Miguel)
Gwen breaks down crying finally and collapses to the ground. Miles kneels down next to her and rubs her shoulders, tears coming out of his eyes as well.
Peter B. finally realizes what’s going on having seen Wendy’s body and immediately grabs Miguel. He tries to punch the stronger man, but Miguel was able to ward off his punches, but purely out of self defense and there was no malice in it. He was a shocked as well.
Peter: Do you know what this means? It means that you lied to her! Gave her a false sense of security and now she’s dead! Are you happy with yourself? You thought this canon thing was so important that you had to sacrifice one of your own to get to it!
Miguel: I didn’t think-.
Peter: You didn’t think what? That you’d actually have consequences to your stupid actions.
Jess: She was right about everything. About dying as a mentor. About the kids being crushed. And you swept it under the rug like it was nothing. How can we trust anything that you say now?
Miguel: Jess, I can explain my thinking. This was never a part of the canon. If the anomaly-.
Peter pushes him to the ground before he could continue speaking. Any respect or empathy he once held for Miguel was gone as he finally realized the lengths he would go to to protect his precious canon. He walks on toward the circle of spiders surrounding Wendy’s body.
Peter: You’ve done enough. If you’ll excuse us, we have some spiders to comfort. Or is that not part of the canon?
Peter and Jess swing down to the rest of the spiders and Miles 42 and Aaron 42 who are all near Wendy’s body. Miles 42 looks up to Miguel who is still on the ground and snarls at him.
Miles 42: Miles explained him pretty well, but there’s one thing he got wrong.
Aaron 42: What’s that?
Miles 42: He’s ten times worse than expected. He has no heart. Someone with a heart wouldn’t try to explain away the death of one of their team members.
Peter stands between Miles and Gwen and holds them tight while Jess holds onto Pavitr with Hobie. Pavitr is still sobbing.
Jess: It’s going to be okay. We’re all going to be okay.
Pavitr lets out more sobs and then one sustained scream.
Pavitr: WENDY!
