Every Woman in the World - Air Supply
Overnight scenes, dinner and wine
Saturdays girls
I was never in love, never had the time
In my hustle and hurry world
Laughing myself to sleep
Waking up lonely
I needed someone to hold me, oh
Carson Shaw was never in love. Hell, not even to her husband, Charlie. She was naïve and careless back then to see the difference between platonic and romantic love, which led her to marry her best friend whom she thought was her greatest love, romantically.
It's such a crazy old town
It can drag you down
'Til you run out of dreams
After learning that Charlie would be back from war, Carson was confused. A typical loving housewife would be rejoicing and restless preparing the house before her husband comes home. Carson did feel restless — the thought of Charlie coming home, her not wanting it, her being scared to disappoint not just him but the whole neighborhood. It was all too much for Carson that her impulsiveness won which resulted in packing her things (mostly books) to go to that baseball tryouts in Chicago she heard from a week ago. She no longer cares what the people from her small village would say to her. She needs to leave immediately; that is the only thing that matters at the moment.
So you party all night to the music and lights
But you don't what happiness means
I was dancing in the dark with strangers
No love around me
When suddenly you found me, oh
It all happened so fast, she didn’t even know how she ended up in this bar with the Peaches. Scanning the entire place, this is all new to her. The chaos, everybody drinking, the folks enjoying themselves on the dancefloor. Carson has no experience like this when she was in Idaho. It’s either Charlie would not let her or Meg would say, “Going to a bar and partying without your husband’s company is not a very housewife thing to do, Carson.” She was so distracted with her thoughts that she did not notice Greta approaching her.
It might seem weird but she feels something is special about this woman. Maybe her hair? Her height? Her charisma? Her being hot and attractive when she didn’t like the candy from her drink? What? No. Stop it, Carson.
Carson knows to not trust someone easily especially if you only knew them for under two days, so how the hell did she let Greta drag her to this dark storage room? Yeah, well maybe it was her charisma. But why did the tall redhead bring her here if she has just something to say? Unless she's confessing a murder. Oh, Lord. How can I get away with this? Her muddled thinking was interrupted when Greta pulled herself against the wall, grasped her arm, and kissed her.
For the nth time, Carson was confused. Her first thought should be this whole thing being wrong on so many levels. One, because she has a husband, and two, what they did is not normal. Instead, it seems like something lit up in her. She never felt this kind of overwhelming sensation before. Sure, she and Charlie may have kissed multiple times. But this with Greta, it feels different. It feels… more right?
She hesitated at first, but her mind went black. She shook her head, took a deep breath, cupped Greta’s face, and kissed her again. Harder.
Everything good, everything fine
That's what you are
So put your hand in mine
And together we'll climb
As high as the highest star
Every evening after curfew, Greta and Carson would arrange to meet at a designated location to spend time alone together and do whatever they wanted, taking care to be cautious and not be caught. This secret ritual allowed them to escape the watchful eyes of others and share moments together without fear of being interrupted or judged.
As time passes by, little by little, Carson could somehow see the difference between platonic and romantic love. As she recently said to Max, Charlie is like warm bread. It’s good and nice enough to serve a meal, but it’s too plain. And Greta… she’s like pizza. Savory, overwhelming, and new to her. All different flavors coming all together, lingering in her tongue. And it’s delicious, a kind she never had before. I love him, but I think I might love her, too.
I'm living a lifetime in every minute
That we're together
And I'm staying right here forever, oh
As Max said to her, she’d rather have five minutes of this than a whole lifetime of before. And it’s true. She can’t imagine what her life would be now without Greta in it. The redhead made her feel things she didn’t even know she would. Maybe she can ask Greta to go home with her to Idaho when the season ends? No, bad idea. Very, very bad.
Girl, you're every woman in the world to me
You're my fantasy, you're my reality
Girl, you're every woman in the world to me
You're everything I need, you're everything to me
Her most unwanted event that could happen just occurred. Charlie is here, in Rockford. The least sight she wanted to see. The thought of Carson feeling this way towards her husband makes her want to throw up. She knows that she’s not the same housewife-Carson who just stays at home waiting for her husband’s return and bakes pies anymore. It’s ridiculous how things can change in just a span of months.
So when Charlie came to Rockford without a single notice, Carson did a thing she didn’t know she could. She stood up for herself, gave him all her savings from the league, and told him to go back to Idaho.
Girl, you're every woman in the world to me
You're my fantasy, you're my reality
“You can come with me to California.”
“What? Greta, are you serious?”
“Yeah.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah.”
“Yeah, yeah. Whatever, I’ll go with you.”
Girl, you're every woman in the world to me
You're everything I need, you're everything to me
Oh girl
