Learning How To Be Me Again
Blake can't remember the last time she's had the best sleep ever. Blake woke up on the empty bed feeling so refreshed.
Last night, Blake can remember feeling the sleeping Yang hug Blake in her sleep. Blake's face turns pink as she felt Yang's face nuzzle against her neck. To the faunus's surprise, she felt safe. Comfortable. And so sleep wasn't an issue.
Blake got her clothes on and went to the living, seeing that no one was home. That had confused her, till she heard laughing coming from outside. Blake looked out the window. Seeing Ruby and Yang in their farm outfit. Ruby was all dirty after she slipped into the mud. To which Yang died from laughing. Blake chuckles a bit.
"Good mo-"
Blake screamed. She turned her head around, her ears pinned back, till she realized who it was. It's Tai.
"A-Ah shit, I'm sorry." Tai apologized.
"No no, it's okay. You just scared me." Blake waved her hands as she laughs nervously. So suddenly, Yang barged into the house.
"Blake! I heard you scream! Is everything okay??" Yang was worried.
"I'm okay. Sorry I worried you. Your dad scared me, is all." Blake smiles, expecting Yang to smile back, but she didn't. No. There was anger on Yang's face.
Yang looks at her father. "Dad! What the hell?! You can't just sneak up on people like that! Also what are you doing!? You should be helping us with the farming!" Yang shouted. Blake took this as a time to leave. She went outside with her shoes. Seeing Ruby play with Zwei, before waving at Blake, yelling "good morning!" Blake waves back, giggling. Ruby runs up to Blake. Keeping a distance so she doesn't get Blake dirty by accident.
"Where's Yang?" Ruby questioned till She heard Yang and Tai fighting. "Oh." Ruby sighed.
"I feel guilty. I'm the reason why they're fighting right now." Blake looks away, staring into the distance. Everything was wet, but it's a beautiful day.
"Why don't you help me release our horses to the fields?" Ruby offered. Blake looks back at the house, seeing Yang from the window. They're still going at it. Blake nods.
"Okay. I'll help you." Blake smiles. She was led to the stables with Ruby.
"Just gotta take them out of their pens and release them to the fields. Easy peasy!" Ruby exclaimed. Blake went to go release Gambol. She enters, opening the gates to release the horses. Gambol grufts and ran out. Running around the fields. Making the Faunus smile.
"Whoa! Ember! Ember!"
Blake left the pen to see Ember freaking out. Ruby is going to get hurt if she doesn't step in. Blake ran, grabbing Ruby and pulling her away from Ember.
"Ruby, what happened?" Blake let go. Staring at Ruby in confusion. Ruby was the same way.
"I don't know. Usually Yang is the one that interacts with Ember so maybe its that? But Ember would not hurt anyone." Ruby frowns a bit. Blake looks at the horse. Mostly watching its actions.
"Ember is scared."
"Huh? How can you tell?"
Blake doesn't answer. She slowly walks up to Ember. Who was sending out all of the warnings to Blake. But she kept going.
"Blake? Maybe we should wait for Yang! You could get hurt!" Ruby was worried. Blake took a deep breath.
"Hey... hey... its okay. You're okay..." Blake whispered. She's inside the pen now. Ember did seem to be relaxing a bit. Blake slowly reached her hand out.
"Yeah... you're okay. Good girl... good girl..." Blake smiled. She puts her hand on Ember's snout, to which made a grunt noise.
"Hey... you did it." Ruby was impressed. Blake sighs in relief. She was about to open the gate for Ember to enter the field till there was a bang sound. Like someone slammed the door. Ember freaked out again, and accidentally knocked into Blake, hearing Ruby shout in panic. making her fall back. For your information, Ember is a Shire horse. She's pretty big. So having the huge body get slammed into her, wasn't a good sight in Ruby's eyes. Especially when Blake hit her head onto the walls.
Plus, Blake must have fallen on something because she's on the ground groaning in pain, crying. Ember is still freaking out. Blake held her head for protection. Ruby panicked and immediately rushed to the house.
Ember was all over the place. Blake pressed herself up against the pen. Hoping she wouldn't get stepped on.
"Blake!"
It's Yang, who rushed inside. "Ember! Ember... shh.. its okay. It's me... its okay." Yang whispered. Ember eventually calmed down. Yang opened the gate for Ember to leave. Yang's attention was now on Blake. To which she crouched down, helping Blake sit up.
"Blake...! Are you okay?!"
Blake looks at Yang's eyes. Seeing fear in Fer lilac eyes. Blake tears up. "My wrist really hurts. So much." Blake's tears fell as she spoke.
Yang looks at Blake's wrist, seeing that she's holding onto it. Yang held out her hand while maintaining eye contact.
"Can I-? Look?"
Blake nods. Holding out her hand. Yang examines. There was a faint purple bruise. Yang can tell her wrist is getting swollen. Blake's hand is shaking a bit.
"Let's go back to the house. I'll get you an ice pack. Can you stand? Ruby told me you hit your head." Yang held Blake's arms, gently trying to pull her back up on her feet.
"Yeah... I'm okay. It's just going to be an annoying headache. But I'm not concussed." Blake smiles a bit. Yang sighs in relief. She took Blake back inside, telling her to sit down on the chair that was in the dining room.
Blake was examining her wrist now that she's not scared or freaking out anymore. She winced when she tried to curl her finger.
"It doesn't feel broken. I still can feel my hand... I most likely sprained my wrist. Might be a grade 2 sprain."
"You sure know your stuff." Yang chuckles as she hands Blake an ice pack. To which Blake gently pressed on her wrist. To her surprise, she felt Yang gently hold her head. Tilting her head around a bit.
"Yang...?"
"Sorry. I'm just making sure you don't have any other injuries." Then she smiles at Blake, looking a lot more relieved.
"Good news, we have wrist cast for things like this!" Yang smiles.
"I don't know if I should be worried or not that you said that."
"Hey. I work at a farm. Things can happen!" Yang said , putting an arm on her hips. Grinning.
"True... but you could always prevent it. Sometimes. Anyways, why don't you get the cast and I'll wash my hands." Blake stood up and head to the kitchen. Turning the faucet on. Rinsing her hands. Getting rid of all the dirt and stuff. Here wrist was getting swollen, there was a visible bump. She sighs.
"Kay I got. Do you need help putting it on?" Yang questioned. Blake shakes her head. She grabs the cast and puts it on tight but not too tight.
"Thanks, this is gonna suck." Blake mumbles.
"What happened back there?" Yang leans against the counter.
"Well, Ruby was trying to get Ember out on the fields and she just was freaking out. So I jumped in and calmed her down. It was fine till what I think must have been the wind slamming the door shut, must have scared Ember and slammed into me. I'm sorry about that."
"Ember is scared of loud sudden noise. There must have been thunderstorms last night. I'm sorry this happened to you. Ember is a very sweet girl. I'm sure she's feeling guilty about accidentally hurting you." Yang smiles a bit.
"Yeah. Oh Ruby must be so worried about me! I should go check on h-" before Blake could even leave the kitchen, her phone rings. Blake blinks. She pulls the phone out of her pocket. Checking to see who it is. It's unknown number. Blake shrugs and answered it, heading to the living room where its quiet.
"Hello?"
"Ah, finally. It's good to hear your voice again, my kitten."
Blake's eyes widened. Her hands started to shake.
"Wh-Why won't you just leave me alone?!" Blake shouted into the phone. Tears threatening to pour.
"Blake? What's going on?" Yang rushed to the living room, standing there. Blake's face went pale. "Blake?"
"No... no no! Just leave me alone! I want nothing to do with you! I want to live my life normally! I'm actually happy for once!" Blake shouted into the phone.
"Tsk tsk... hm. Is someone in the room? Put me on speaker. Or I'll send those pictures."
Blake shudders, but she puts her phone on speaker.
"Is everything okay?" Tai came to the living room after hearing Blake's shouts. Ruby was at the doorway, curious.
"Good girl. For those who took my precious beautiful girlfriend away, I'll be coming for you all. I know where you are Blake. You're at the farm aren't you? Just happily living with some strangers you went with?"
"Who is this?" Tai raised his tone. There was a small chuckle.
"Blake's boyfriend obviously. Blake abandoned me, and she's lost. So I'll be coming to pick her up."
"Adam! I don't want to go back with you! You can't make me!" Blake took quick breaths.
"Oh but I can! Just imagine it Blake. I stabbed you before. What makes you think I won't kill your so called friends? I'll be here tonight. Either let me have Blake, or there will be bloodshed. If you call the police, I'll set the damn farm on fire."
"Please don't... I'm begging don't-"
The call ends. Blake felt heavy. So heavy. Why is it getting harder and harder to breathe? Where did the sounds go?
Why is this happening? What did she do to deserve this? Blake wanted to control her own life, and she did after she left him... but why? Why won't he give up? Also... why is Yang opening her mouth?
Oh. She's trying to talk. But there's just a static sound.
It all goes dark.
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN?! ARE YOU TELLING ME I LET A WOMAN WHO HAS A PSYCHOPATH BOYFRIEND WHOS AFTER HER INTO MY HOUSE?!"
"WHY IS THIS SUCH A BIG DEAL!? WE ARE PROTECTING HER!!"
"HE. JUST. SAID!!! HES COMING HERE TONIGHT AND WOULD KILL US!!!"
"And?! WE HAVE A GUN! WE CAN EASILY DEFEAT H-"
"NO! IM NOT LETTING YOU GIRLS GET HURT! YOU WILL BE STAYING HERE!!! I'm going to take Blake somewhere that's not here."
"DONT FUCKING TOUCH HER!"
"DO NOT SPEAK TO ME LIKE THAT!!!"
Blake groans a bit. She wakes up, seeing Ruby who was on verge of tears. She has Blake's head on her lap while sitting on the couch. Blake sits up after she remembered the phone call.
"Wh- What happened!? Why- he- oh my god... I- I"
"Y-You fainted from. Uh... breathing so quickly."
Hyperventilation.
"Blake...!" Yang came to Blake's side. Yang was crying. Tai looks pissed. Ruby is scared. This... this is all her fault.
"I- I- can't be here. I can't! I- I won't let you guys get hu-"
"No. You're gonna stay with me. I'll protect y-"
"No. You won't. I'm taking her away!" Tai interrupts. Blake's eyes widened. She did say she can't be here but, she hoped Yang would stop her. Because Blake doesn't want to leave. But... she. She can't leave this house. She won't. This is the only place she felt safe and like she's at home.
"No... no..." Blake started shaking.
"DAD! what the fuck!? You're not putting a single finger on her! I will not hesitate to push you away!"
"You do not get to threaten m-"
"I don't give a shit. Blake is a family!"
"She's a guest that needs to leave. I will not put you two in danger." Tai raised his tone.
"You unbelievable! So fucking unbelievable! I- GOD THIS IS WHY I HATE YOU SO MUCH!!! You're never around to help us! You lie! And now you're gonna give Blake more trauma! YOU ARE AWFUL!" Yang screamed. She grabbed Blake's arm and pulled her outside. Tai was shouting and he was about to grab Yang's arm to pull her back till Yang started running off.
"Yang..?!"
Yang didn't say anything. She just ran to the stables. Getting the saddle on Ember before getting on.
"I'll help you."
"Yang I don-"
"Please." It's obvious Yang just wants to be away from the house for a bit. Blake slowly reached out, being pulled onto the saddle. Sitting behind Yang before Yang took off.
Ember was just walking along the dirt road. Passing by fields of crops.
"Yang... I'm so sorry..." Blake felt so guilty. She looks at Yang, who sighed.
"It's not your fault." Yang responded. There was a silence again. Blake's ears fold back. She pressed her head against Yang's back.
"It feels like it though... You've been fighting with your father because of me... and now you three are in danger! I- I'm so sorry Yang...!" Blake sobbed.
"Blake..." Yang looks over her shoulder. "I'd hug you if I could. It's not your fault. It's Adam's fault. He's the one that fucked up your life is he not?" Yang checked. Blake nods. "It's all his fault that we're here like this. You could be at home with your family. Living your life."
Blake was quiet. Only a few quiet sob would fill the silence. Yang looks ahead. Making Ember trot.
"Where are we going...?" Blake sniffs. Yang smiles a bit.
"Somewhere special. Which we've just arrived." Yang said as she got off of Ember, tying the ropes to the fence. Blake wipes the tears away, looking at what was in front of her. It's just a... tree house? Kinda? It's pretty worn down though.
"Well? Aren't you coming?" Yang questioned. Blake nods, getting off of Ember and walking up to the tree house.
"Ah... shit." Yang realized that she can't exactly climb up with her one arm. "Your wrist is sprained too, so it's not like we-"
"You were saying?"
Yang looked up. Seeing that Blake was already in the tree house. "Wh-What the? How did y-"
"Abuse gives me pain tolerance." Blake then reached her hand out. Helping Yang climb up. They both get inside.
"That's... sad." Yang frowns a bit. She looks around, seeing just how dirty and old everything is.
"It's been so long since I've been here. Haven't came here since I moved to Atlas." Yang sighed. Sitting on the bed. Blake joins.
"Did someone make this?" Blake questioned.
"Yeah... me, mom, and dad built this. Well. Just my parents. I was helping by watching Ruby and play with her." Yang smiles a bit. "We would hang out her. Have smores, camp out here. Stuff like that... but now that mom died, this... is just a place for me to go to if I just need to get away from home. I mean.. normally I'd go to my mother's grave, but Dad knows I go there to cool off. I don't want him finding me." Yang sighed.
"I... see." Blake frowns. She then heard a croak, her ears perking up. Blake looks over to side. Seeing a frog. Blake screamed and got up. Yang laughed.
"Yeah, it's been untouched. I wouldn't be surprised if there was creatures here." Yang chuckles, till she sees that Blake wasn't smiling anymore. She's just standing there. Like... she's dissociating? Yang stood up, holding Blake's shoulder. Snaping her back to reality.
"Y-Yang. Sorry." Blake forced a smile on her face. Yang sighed.
"Liar... Blake. Its okay to be scared. I'd be scared after that... call." Yang pulls Blake into a hug. To which she started to sob.
"I tried so hard to get away from him! It was so hard! I-I can't go back! I worked so hard...! He's always... so persistent to finding me...! I just want to be happy!" Blake sobbed. Yang kissed the top of Blake's head.
"Shh... its okay. You have me. I'll keep you safe. It's gonna be okay. That asshole won't hurt anyone. I'm not going to let him, also... how on earth did he find you? We live in a private farm!"
"H-He... probably put a tracker on my phone. I wouldn't be surprise..." Blake hiccups. Yang groaned.
"At this rate I'm gonna start calling him 'Ass'-dam."
That did make Blake laugh a bit, even while crying. Yang smiles a bit. Running her hand through Blake's hair.
"We're gonna be okay... I promise."
"Don't make promises you can't keep. Didn't you tell me that things can happen?" Blake looks up at Yang.
"Well... ah you got me." Yang grins. Blake felt better. She wipes her tears.
"Okay... okay... I think I'm okay for now..." Blake said.
"That's good. We can just camp out here. I think I might still have some board games.... uh..." Yang mumbled a bit as she looks around in the tree house.
ᴮᴬᴺᴳ
Blake's ears perks up. She stays still. What was that...? It sounds li-
ᴮᴬᴺᴳ
"Yang...? I hear gunshots." Blake looks at Yang with fear, who looks back in worry.
"What?"
"I-" Suddenly Yang's phone starts to ring. It's Ruby. Yang answered.
"BANG"
"KYAH!" There was sobbing.
"RUBY GET IN YOUR ROO-"
"BANG"
"DAD!" Ruby shrieked.
Yang and Blake looked at each other in horror.
"Ruby! GET TO SAF-"
"hm... Yang Xiao Long... you must be the girl who took my kitten away..."
"GET THE FUCK AWAY FROM MY SISTER!!!"
"Oh? This brat is your sister? How cute. Too bad it'll be the last time you'll see her. Bring Blake to me and maybe I'll let her live."
"ʸᵃⁿᵍᵎ"
"SHUT IT!"
Yang is fuming. She immediately jumped down from the tree house. Blake immediately followed. She gets on Ember with Yang, to which Yang took off. Galloping.
"You better not fucking touch her!"
Adam already ended the call. Yang cursed. She's crying. Scared for Ruby's life. Blake was scared. But... she has a plan.
It wasn't going to be pretty.
