The Day It All Goes Dark

Yang was on her motorcycle driving off. Minding her business as she drove. The wind blowing in her face felt amazing.

Yang was on her way to Blake's home. She was at a red light, waiting. She's listening to music, patting her hands on the handle as she listened. The light goes green. Yang drives off.

Then there was a sickening crack. Crash. Bang. Yang doesn't know what happened. It felt like she blacked out. Opening her eye, she can faintly see that she's on the asphalt and...

Blood. There was blood. Pooling under her. Yang knew this was not good. At all. What happened? Why does it feel so heavy to move? Her mind felt so numb.

What's going on...?

Yang doesn't have time to get answers as she falls into unconsciousness.

Blake arrived at the Cafe. It was a Monday. Blake was worried, because Yang was supposed to visit her yesterday but she never arrived. Maybe something happened and Yang had to cancel. Who knows. She walked to the door, realizing it was locked. The Cafe is closed... why?

There was a note on the door.

"Will not be open for a while. Emergency happened. Blake. If you read this, call this number please. (Phone-Number)"

Blake gulped. She got her phone and called the number. Soon hearing Weiss's voice.

"Weiss, is everything okay?" Blake questioned.

"No... no it isn't" It sounded like Weiss was crying earlier. Blake's heart raced.

"Wh-Whats wrong?!"

"It's Yang. She's been in a motorcycle accident. I'll send you the address. I'm sorry I can't pick you up. I want too but I'm filling out paperwork..." Weiss said.

Motorcycle... accident...

"I- I'm on my way! Tell Yang that!"

"W-Wait but she hasn't wo-"

Blake ended the call. Getting the address and she immediately ran off. She can't get a ride, but that's fine. Blake was sure she broke record for how fast she ran. She didn't care about anything in the world. But her precious friend Yang. God... please be okay...!

After an hour of running, which Blake didn't even think was possible for herself, she arrived at the hospital, finding Weiss and... this must be Ruby.

"Weiss...! Is she..."

"She's alive... barely." Weiss sobbed. Blake has never seen Weiss like this. Weiss is a strong confident person...

"Can... I see her?"

"We can't. They won't let us. Yang is on watch... which means that she still could die..."

Blake sat down by Weiss, rubbing her back. She felt awful. Blake took a deep breath. She didn't want to cry. She had to stay hopeful. Yang is a strong person. Mentally and Physically.

"What... happened in the accident?"

"A distracted driver ran past the red light and crashed into Yang. A-And... I- It... fuck... they said Yang dangerously lost a lot of blood." Weiss was stressed. Blake closed her eyes. Praying that Yang will be okay.

Everyone got the news saying that Yang will be okay and they can visit her. Ruby and Weiss immediately rushed into the hallway. While Blake took her time. A lot was rushing through her mind. Will it be the same after this? How bad did this hit her? Was damage really bad?

It was really bad... it was so bad...

Blake arrived, standing at the doorway. She held her breath. Staring at the unconscious blonde in the bed. Ruby was sobbing as she held Yang's hand. Pale... hand...

Yang looks so pale. Blake doesn't even know how to explain how... hard this was to look at. It's... disturbing. What hurts too is that Blake knows exactly what all these items are for. I.V for blood. Mask for oxygen which has tubes going into her nose. And... tube in Yang's mouth... Blake doesn't want to analyze anymore. It was too painful...

But... the worse part about this entire thing... No its not that Yang had bandages wrapped around her on certain places. No it wasn't the pale skin. No it wasn't how little Yang was breathing.

It's the fact that Yang's right arm... was gone. Amputated.

Blake felt tears running down her face. Why did this happen...? What did they do to her beloved sunshine...?

Blake walked to the side of Yang's bed. She gently pits her hand on Yang's chest. Her heart was beating thankfully... but even then... it just... felt so less... so gentle. Too gentle.

Blake gritted her teeth. Her ears folding all the way back. She squeezed her eyes shut as she cried.

This wasn't supposed to happen...

"What are we supposed to do?! She won't wake up... god knows when she'll wake up?! The doctor did say that Yang suffered from head trauma as well. Stupid helmet didn't do its job! A-"

"Ruby... Ruby..." Weiss held Ruby's arms. Ruby just kept crying. To which Weiss pulled Ruby into an embrace. Blake watches them. Its been a few hours. Yang's conditions hasn't changed one bit.

"We... we just wait. We'll be there for her when she wakes up... right?" Blake forced a smile. She means it, but it just felt so tiring to smile.

"Yeah... but what if she's in a coma and she never wakes up!?" Ruby cried out. Blake tenses up.

"Wait... just wait... I don't know Ruby... what do you want me to say?" Blake teared up.

"WE HAVE TO BE REALISTIC!!!"

Blake stood up, glaring at Ruby. "IM TRYING TO BE REALISTIC BUT NOT BE BLUNT!!!"

"HEY! You two will not fight here... don't even fight...! We all need to be calm!"

"HOW CAN I BE CALM WHEN MY SISTER IS IN HER OWN DEATH BED?! She could die...!" Ruby's voice broke at the end.

"SHE WONT DIE!"

"HOW DO YOU KNOW?!"

"I- I DONT BUT I WANT TO BE STRONG FOR HER!!"

"SHE PROBABLY GOT BRAIN DAMAGE AND WONT EVER BE THE SAME!!! THE YANG WE KNOW PROBABLY WONT BE THERE ANYMORE!"

"YANG W-"

"SHUT UP!" Weiss shrieked. She glares at Blake and Ruby. "Please... get out."

"She's my sister! I should be sta-"

"OUT!" Weiss shouted. Ruby groaned in frustration as she left the room quickly. Blake watched Rubt leave before looking at Weiss.

"Weiss I-"

"Don't... I'm sorry. You two pissed me off... just, go and cool down..." Weiss looks away. Trying not to cry. Blake left the room feeling stupid.

Blake went outside to get fresh air when she finds Ruby crying to herself. Blake gulps. She took a deep breath and walked up to Ruby.

"Ruby...?"

"What do you want...?" Ruby hissed. Blake frowns.

"I... I don't want anything. I just want to let you know that I should've not yelled at you. We are all stressed. I'm sorry." Blake said. She's about to leave when Ruby grabs her arm.

"Can we just... chat?"

Blake was surprised by this but she nods. Standing by Ruby as she looks ahead, seeing the clouds move by.

"How did you meet Yang...?" Ruby questioned.

"I met her at the Cafe when she first started working there. She immediately called me beautiful." Blake smiles a bit.

"Yep... that sounds like Yang. Let me guess, she's been very selfless?"

"Very."

Ruby smiles. "Yang has always been like that. She's the best sister I could've asked for. She became a mother when no one would. Yang basically raised me. I still show my appreciation to her.""

"Yang... really is a good person..." Blake said. Ruby hummed in agreement. There was a comfortable silence. Blake then felt Ruby hold her hand. Making her ears perk up.

"I hope my sister will be okay..." Ruby mumbled. Blake frowns, she gently places her hand on Ruby's head and gently pulls her head to her shoulder. Gently petting.

"Me too..." Blake whispered. She didn't think she'd be making a bond with Yang's little sister..  but... it felt like Blake had a young sister seeking for comfort to her pain.

"I'm sorry for yelling." Ruby apologized.

"Me too..." Blake says again. She stares at the sky. Its almost strange. She can picture Yang giving her the biggest grin on her face and telling her that it'll be okay. Adding a pun or joke to it. Blake tears up.

Would Yang truly not be the same after this...?

FEW WEEKS LATER. . .

Yang isn't sure what's happening. She just... feels really strange. Numb... and pained. Her head felt light. Too light. Her chest hurts a bit. It felt uncomfortable to breathe. She feels her finger twitch a bit. Yang is trying to wake up.

"Yang...?"

That voice... Its so familiar... Yang can't pin on who it is. She mustered up her strength to wake up. Her tired eyes fluttered open. All blurry till she blinked a few times. Clearing up her vision.

"Yang...!"

It's Blake...

"Mghya..." Yang tried to talk but there's something in her throat. It's really uncomfortable. But Yang looks at Blake, she can tell that Blake is exhausted, judging from the bags under her eyes.

"Hang on... I'll get a nurse. Be right back.." Blake said before leaving. Yang closes her eyes. It just feels so... exhausting to be awake. Then she felt the tube out of her mouth. Making her cough. She whimpers a bit. Taking in a shaky breath.

"Yang...?" Blake called out again. Yang opens her eyes again. She turns her head towards Blake a bit.

"Wh...what happened...?" Yang finally speaks. Blake frowns.

"You were in a motorcycle accident. But you're here and you're okay. You were in a coma for three weeks." Blake answered.

"Oh..." Yang mumbled. Coma... accident? All that blood... Yang barely remembers what happened and she is glad she doesn't. It saves her from the trauma.

"How are you feeling...?"

"Like shit..." Yang mumbled. Making Blake chuckle a bit. "But I'm... decent. I feel alive..." Yang had a faint smile. Blake could tell Yang was exhausted.

"Your sister wouldn't stop worrying about you. Weiss had to make Ruby take your place at the Cafe just to keep her distracted. It's been hard... but they'll be so happy to hear that you woke up."

"I owe you a date..." Yang mumbled.

"Wh-Wha-"

"We were supposed to hang out right...? Sorry..." Yang said. Blake sighed with a smile on her face. Yep. This is Yang.

"You really are so selfless. Worry about yourself, you big dum dum" Blake caressed Yang's cheek. Gently rubbing them.

"Mmgh.." Yang responded with a hum. She leaned more into Blake's hand. Only to realize something. Her eyes widened. Yang just now saw her arm.

"M-My arm...!" Yang coughed out. She tried to get up. Blake panicked. She didn't know what to do.

"I-Its okay! It's okay! That's all you lost! That's all! You can still work! And do things you enjoy!" Blake exclaimed.

"B-But... its my good hand for mastu-"

"Okay listen here, you horny little shi-" Blake immediately interrupted.

Yang laughs a bit before coughing. She stares at her arm. "This... is going to suck... how bad was the accident...?"

"I don't know. All I was told is that it was... pretty graphic. I'm just glad you're okay."

"Yeah I'm glad I'm okay too. I'm in... uh... 80% one piece." Yang said. Blake sighs. She grabs a water cup with a straw and held it by Yang. Letting her drink from it.

"How... how have you been?" Yang was concerned. Blake sighed. She knows she can't lie.

"Not well. It's been hard. But I'll get better now that you're awake."

"Okay..." Yang mumbled. She was too tired to continue. So she just closed her eyes again. Falling asleep. Blake frowns. She just hopes this will be an easy recovery for Yang.
