"Do you like Miles?"
When Hobie Brown was invited to go to Miles’ concert, he hadn’t expected much. 1. Because he was a friend of Pav’s, meaning the boy was probably very bright and energetic, and 2. Because he doesn’t even listen to rap.
But then- then, he sees that Miles is so bright. More than what he expected. Brighter than Pav. And he’s excited, and he’s flirty (though he doubts he even realizes it) and he’s confident but humble at the same time? And Hobie thinks that it should not be making his legs weak but it does anyway, and he feels bad.
Hobie has never been unhappy with Gwen. She’s a drummer, and she’s a damn good one too. She’s simple and speaks her mind (Which Hobie loves, because he’s very honest as well), and she’s so incredibly pretty. But when he’s with Miles- He wants more. But he can’t.
So when they go see Miles record his new song, he gets enough by hanging onto his shoulder, telling him his spanish is cool, smirking at him (and he knows Miles notices because his face heats up and Hobie fights the urge to kiss him then and there-)
But then Margo approaches him and kisses his cheek? and Hobie clutches his bag harder, but then she notices, and oh lord this looks so bad from a guy whose girlfriend is right beside him.
And here’s this : Hobie is not the jealous type. He doesn’t care when people talk to his girlfriend, or stay on call with her but he just can’t help but get that feeling (which he assumes is jealousy) when Margo is around Miles. Maybe it’s because his cheeks always heat up and he gets that goofy smile on his face.
When he first introduced Margo to him and Gwen, he didn’t give them anything. Not “She’s my friend” or “girlfriend” or “cousin”. They got nothing. And Hobie wanted to bring it up so many times, to ask “How’d you meet?” or “Are you dating?” But seeing the way Gwen had introduced him (“My boyfriend, Hobie Brown”), He knew she’d probably get suspicious, if she wasn't already.
But now he’s in Gwen’s room, while she’s in the shower. And he’s alone with his thoughts, and nothing’s stopping him from picking up his phone and asking Miles about it, so he does.
Hobie - Hey Miles
That was a horrible way to start the conversation. He thinks, face palming
Read - 9:10pm
Hobie notices that Miles leaves him on read a lot. He doesn’t know why, but he assumes he’s just the type. But he also can’t shake the feeling, that he knows how Hobie feels and is ignoring him. And Hobie hates being ignored.
Hobie - Milesss
Hobie - I know you’re there
Starboy - Sorry, Milo was beating me up for not calling him after I left
Hobie - That’s your brother right?
Starboy - Unfortunately.
Starboy - Is everything okay?
Hobie - Yup, just wanted to tell you, I loved your song with Margo.
Hobie - Speaking of which..
Starboy - What’s up?
Hobie - She seems very touchy, you guys dating?
Instead of answering, Miles sends a 2 second video of him staring at the camera then going into a fit of giggles. (Hobie definitely didn’t replay the video at least 20 times. Even if he did, nobody has to know.)
Hobie - What does that even mean?
Miles - Shrug
Hobie - Did you really just type.. shrug?
Miles - Yeah, what about it
Miles doesn’t answer his question, which makes him nervous but he can also tell Miles is doing it on purpose (Hobie can’t tell if this counts as flirting, and he hopes not- but he kinda wishes it was.) but he doesn’t get the chance to ask him about it because-
“What was all that noise? I heard a lot of laughter.” Gwen had come out from the bathroom, grabbing her phone and raising an eyebrow
Hobie, as honest as he is, grabs his phone and shows her the video. Which then results in her smiling and replaying it almost as much as he did. He feels- relieved?
“He’s so cute.” She says muttering. Hobie knows he wasn’t supposed to hear it, but he perks up anyway.
“Do you like Miles?” Her eyes widen and she quickly fumbles over her words
“NO- i mean, no, I wouldn’t do that to you- not that I’m cheating- or I would- but I mean- I don’t like him and-”
Hobie spaces out as she keeps talking. He wants to say “It’s okay, me too”
Instead,
“Calm down Gwendy” with a chuckle.
Why did he want her to say yes? Why did he think his answer would be yes?
Here it is : When Hobie met Miles, he hadn’t expected much. Like at all. He expected a copy paste of Pav, maybe just a different font. But Miles is everything better than that. He’s an artist, a singer, a rapper, and Hobie thinks he might just be in love with him.
All he had to do was get Gwen to fall for him too.
