Goodbye
He looked outside as the loom slowly destroyed itself, the light shining brightly as he pondered. They had one shot at this. One shot and one shot only
They could all die
He turned to his left, staring at Loki’s side profile. He had a worried yet hopeful expression on his face. If this was their final moment- their final short time together- he had to say goodbye. To say something- anything to him
As he slowly approached, the god of mischief shifted entirely
His posture was straighter, his face more determined and those eyes- those apple green eyes he appreciated to lose himself in so much- looked tired, worn
As if he’d seen it all before
He turned around, looking at everyone individually before pausing on him. For a minute Mobius thought he recognized that look. That desperate longing look, with watery eyes and a small smile dancing at his lips. That stare he had grown fond of, that seemed to be reserved to him and him only
The next event was unexpected
In all honesty, he was ready to volunteer himself and go out there again, having done it once
But as Loki walked down those stairs, he looked like a whole new and different man
A man who had gone through way too much
He was in daze- shock- to see his best friend run down that way. He didn’t want him to go- as selfish as it was. He would rather risk his own life than Loki’s. He was just an old man who works behind a desk, if he was gone, no one would miss him
As Sylvie ran down after him- Mobius snapped out of his trance and followed her quickly, only to find themselves locked out. This was not happening. There was no way this was happening
‘’Loki? What are you doing?’’ she asked, probably as confused as he was
He banged on the door. This was not happening. ‘’Open the door’’ he was in distress, imagining the worse
The god turned around, tears at the edge of those perfect eyes. He looked destroyed, lost
‘’I know what I want’’ he said. It sounded shaky, yet certain. ‘’I know what kind of god I need to be’’ he took a deep breath, holding back the emotions as he stared at him in the eyes. He looked broken, as if all hope was lost and this- this suicide was the only answer. ‘’For you’’
Mobius could feel his heart racing and his breath shortening. This was not happening. Not like this. He needs to say more- to do more- they need more time-
‘’For all of us’’ he added, before giving a smile. That smile he grew to like, that smile that carried no worries and was always carefree of the world or disaster they were facing against
‘’No!-’’ he screamed, staring in panic as his friend turned around and focused his magic- his power- on opening the strong welded doors
The radiation should’ve destroyed him. It should’ve taken him apart atom by atom, leaving him a bloody stain on the floor- yet it didn't. He backed down slightly as a wave hit him, but he stood strong and started walking. Mobius stood there as all sound around him faded. He was stunned and horrified. Loki looked glorious walking confidently towards the self destructing branches, yet worry settled deep in his core
This was not happening
He ran upstairs to join the others, captivated
His clothes were changing, he was changing
He became the god he always wanted to be, and he was beautiful doing so. His hands raised in front of him as he reached the middle of the walk path, and everyone’s eyes drifted to the fluorescent loom
But not Mobius
He stared at Loki. Loki, the god of mischief. The variant. His lifelong study. Loki, the enemy turned into a friend. The all-powerful being who chose to stay by his side, even if he could’ve escaped anytime.Loki, the man who wanted to do good, no matter the cost. The friend who lost too much, but always stood back up. Risking his life for millions of others. Loki, with a smile that could brighten a whole room. With those eyes that always had a fond, kind expression. Loki, the guy who never ceased to amaze him, no matter what
Loki, the man he-
He watched as this god- this time and space manipulating god broke the loom and released the timelines
He watched him free the multiverse and get lost in the darkness
This isn’t happening. This can’t be happening
He grabbed branch by branch, healing them with his magic. One by one, step by step, he took them in his hands and made his way up into the endless abyss. A light shone through the darkness, revealing something beyond the chaos
The end of time
His heart was thrumming in his chest as Loki- his Loki- turned around and stared from a distance at them
He saw the loss he was experiencing
He saw those green eyes, one last time
He saw the man he cherished, the man he grew fond of grab every single branch with him through the light before leaving him in complete darkness
Gone
Loki was gone
His world went silent, the only sound being his own short breath and his racing heartbeat. He could feel his eyes blur, but he didn't care
This wasn’t happening
This couldn’t be happening
He could’ve done more
He should’ve said something
He should’ve-
He was gone
He could feel a hole tear through his chest as he felt himself fall to his knees, unable to stay upright anymore
He felt so empty, so broken
As if the man had left with his soul
With every inch of happiness he once had
Why was he so shattered? Why did he feel as if someone had gutted him?
As if
As if his heart broke
Realization quickly hit before being followed by heartbreak as he stayed there, zoned out into the darkness, alone
Loki, the man he loved
