Peter awoke to Mayday crying in her crib. He got up, walked sluggishly to her crib set up directly next to Peter’s side of the bed and scooped up Mayday into his scarred arms. He shushed her gently and rocked her back and forth around the room, quietly to avoid waking MJ and to help ease Mayday back to sleep. Eventually, Mayday fell asleep gently, Peter waiting a second to put her down in case she woke up from the sudden movements, which was a fairly common occurrence the previous week. She luckily didn’t.

Peter was just about to get back in bed when he heard a light crash from the living room of his and MJ’s small 2 bedroom apartment. It wasn’t overly loud, he was only able to hear it because he could hear a wider range of sounds after the bite, so it luckily didn’t wake his family. He groaned internally. It was safe to assume that it was either Team Red or some other vigilante who hadn’t heard about his break from patrol since Mayday was born last month. He was planning to return to patrol soon, just when Mayday is asleep though and he’d have to stay close to Queens.

He sighed before walking into the living room quietly. Miles stood in his living room, in full mask and suit and stance terrified. Peter walked to where he kept his suit in his and MJ’s bedroom and put it on quickly, as if second nature at this point, in his bathroom before gesturing toward the Fire escape. Miles followed him and Peter carefully closed the window as not to disturb his baby daughter and wife.

The second the window closed, the teen started talking.

“So, I know it’s late, and I know you’re on a break and you’re not really patrolling for a bit and I know you said to call first before coming over at night, but-“

Peter interrupted Miles, holding up a finger as he took a deep breath. He had a couple of guesses as to what was happening: Kingpin, Hammerhead, the Sinister Six or Doctor Doom. Miles wouldn’t have come over if it wasn’t serious. Peter had given the kid his normal phone number in case of emergency when MJ first told him she was pregnant and warned the kid he’d be gradually patrolling less and less as MJ’s pregnancy progressed.

Now, he checks in with the kid before and after his patrol and he asked Cindy to do the same. She looked after him when their patrols crossed. Though, nothing had seemed out of the ordinary today, there was always calm before the storm. Out of all of the options available, he hoped it was Kingpin so he could yell at Matt and get him to do it instead. Then, Miles wouldn’t have to be awake at the god forsaken hour of 3 am.

The kid should be in bed, but last time he told him that he’d patrolled nonstop and skipped school, so they’d agreed to only patrol at night and to rest afterwards. He let Miles’s rambling continue after he’d taken a few deep breaths and made sure the kid wasn’t screaming at the top of his lungs.

“So, Kingpin is infringing other people’s territory and him and Hammerhead are going at it again and I don’t know how to stop them and it’s getting really frustrating-“

Peter stopped the kid kindly, before starting the flood of follow up questions, as Miles called them. Peter talked a lot, so did Miles. It came with the mantle, so Cindy luckily had been able to dodge the frankly annoying trait.

“Did you talk to double d?”

The kid hesitated and Peter sent him a dad look, newly discovered thanks to Mayday, who despite only being 1 month old, was already a chaotic kid. Miles folds, immediately spilling.

“No, I- I uh didn’t know where to find him”

Peter’s Dad look doubled in doubtful intensity. Miles sighed and started to tell the truth.

“Ok, fine, I admit it. Daredevil creeps me out and I have never held a conversation with him without you or Cindy there, and i don’t know how to ask him for help. There, I said it.”

Peter laughed a bit to himself. He was aware double d was a bit odd to other vigilantes and heroes. He’d been essentially operating as DD’s secretary since he was 15. He was the least intimidating member of team red after all.

“Ok, I know what to do. I’ll get double d,”

Miles relaxed in relief.

“But you’re coming with me.”

Miles tensed again.

“You’re not going to get out of this. You need to be able to talk to other vigilantes, not just me, kid.”

Miles groans at the lecture, and then they head off, Peter leaving MJ a message of whereabouts and when he’s coming back.

Hells Kitchen was quiet and quaint which was strange. So, obviously Matt was perched on top of an especially tall building and appeared to be using his radar sense at a larger scale to assess threats. He noticed them almost the second they crossed into his territory. As the arc of his swing came to a head, Peter landed in front of Matt, Miles doing the same.

“Spidey, Junior. What brings you to the Kitchen?”

Miles was keen to keep his distance, Peter refused to let him. He looked at Miles expectantly, gesturing him to talk. He hesitatingly stepped forward.

“Uh, hello, Mr. Daredevil, Sir.-“

He looks at a loss for what to say and Peter sends him a look. He turned back and shrugged a bit.

“Uh, Kingpin is causing a ruckus with, uh Hammerhead again and I need help.”

Matt nodded towards the kid. Peter took it as his cue to leave.

“Let me know what happens. I’ll be back on patrol soon so i want updates. And Kid, let Silk know what’s up too”

They exchanged a joking salute as Peter fell into a swing, yelling a goodbye to DareDevil before he left the kitchen. As he landed back on his apartment’s fire escape, he pulled out his burner phone and left Cindy a message.

Spider-Man: I’ll text w updates but he’s doing well asking for help

He shut his phone and entered his apartment near silently before changing back into his pajamas and falling back into bed, asleep. He was glad both he and Mj had a day off tomorrow.
