Chapter 2

Peter woke up the next day to an update on his burner phone from Silk.

Silk: I helped them for a bit
Silk: kid did great
Silk: the issue was kingpin and hammerhead. They’re fucking with inter dimensional crap. I’ll update soon

That… did not install courage in Peter. He’d been involved in enough team ups and mentorships to see when something was about to go south. He sighed and reluctantly glanced at the time (7:38 am, still way too early by Peter’s standards) before rolling over to wake his lovely wife. MJ blinked groggily at him before waving him off with a kiss and inching towards Peter’s side of the bed to be awoken better by Mayday if needed.

Peter quickly suited up before leaving through the fire escape, again too early. He really wanted to be at home, asleep. Patrol isn’t always exhaustive, but there’s a feeling in his bones about this particular mission that makes him feel that he’ll be drained by the time he’s back home.

Peter was put into a position of power at a very young age and was expected to keep a standard of heroic acts that really should have been unthinkable to anyone else his age, he knew the way it made you feel, the emotional labor that could crush you if you weren’t careful. That’s why he’s determined to keep Miles from bearing the burden alone and why he was determined to care for his daughter and his family.

He dialed Cindy’s number and held the phone to his ear. It took two rings for her to answer.

“Hey Dude uh, I’m kinda in the middle of something here!”

She yelled, and call him crazy, but Peter could swear he heard screaming in the background. Scratch that, he knew that was screaming. Cindy always got into the most crazy shit, especially early in the morning.

“Is it the same thing from yesterday? Cause I want to help.”

Cindy took a second to sigh. She knand said

“I’ll send you my coordinates.”

And then promptly hung up. True to her word, Peter got her coordinates. She was somewhere near Greenwich Village, close to the sanctum sanctorum, but not directly in the sanctum. He swung over the city quickly and quietly, because even though New York never sleeps, it still was early morning and Peter didn’t want to bother anyone.

By the time he’d reached the sanctum, a soft peach accentuated the sky, the horizon returned to its normal state of beauty and tourists had begun to photograph it.

The sanctum, allusions hiding it as always, looked about the same as any other building in the city. Peter approached the door, the real sanctum revealing itself to only him as he stepped closer and closer to the suddenly gold encrusted doors. He reached the step, and knocked on the engraved wood.

Wong answered the door urgently and dragged the man in, slamming the door behind them.

“Spider-Man, we have much to discuss.”

He followed Wong as he walked quickly through the intricate halls and into separate rooms that lead to another room and a final room, large enough to hold him, Wong and Dr. Strange, who was already present.

“Parker.”

Peter responds to that with the same energy he was met with.

“Strange.”

Fuck it, he’s vindictive. Who cares? The man almost ruined his life, he has the right to be upset.

“So what’s up? I assume a magical/mythical disturbance?”

Wong flew around the room a little looking at this and that, attempting to find anything that might help and gathering his findings in a satchel, handing it to Peter.

“Silk has informed us there’s a disturbance in the multiverse and that we may have variant versions of you and the others here. That is very dangerous, so I’ve given you potions that could potentially help.”

He lead Peter into a different room, down the basement stairs, taking a few turns before landing in a large room with high ceilings and walls and a portal like structure in the middle of the room.

“A failed portal to alternate worlds. I assume I couldn’t be used as a conduit to open such things. However, I believe you have a chance.”

He led Peter to where the materials were laid out. Many things greeted him including wrenches, hammers, power tools and many parts that Peter could fashion into a functional portal.

“So, you’ll build the portal while Silk and Spider-man provide a distraction. This way, we can have a way to transport these variants back to their respective dimensions.”

Peter looked back towards the supplies and then towards Wong.

“Ok, I’ll do it.”
