Everything’s Back to Normal 🥳
Hanging out at the park, Miles and him were just like before.
They weren’t exactly doing anything interesting at the moment, since they didn’t bring a basketball nor skates, but why would they need to when they could just talk to each other? Anyways, it was their designated “hang out” spot for the moment, because it’s free, has things to sit on, and if they needed to rush back to the school it’s right there. They make sure not to go past curfew when Miles’s dad has night patrol though, they learned the first time.
“You think we should head back to the dorms yet?” Miles said as he dangled his feet from the roof of the playground he’s sitting on. He has no idea why he likes to sit there so much but oh well- everyone’s different. In fact, he’ll add it to the list of things he likes about ‘im. The list is already long enough to top the Empire State Building, what could one more on there really do?
“Do you want to?” Hobie raised his eyebrow. The boy always asks that, even when he’s never the one who wants to leave. He feels there’s a reason to it, but unless he gets a hint he’s not finding out anytime soon.
“Nope.” Miles said simply, looking at the horizon. “Curfew definitely ended a while ago though.”
“Sucks for them.” He shrugged.
“Yup.” He said, popping the p.
Hobie smiled softly as he slowly climbed on top of the roof too. “Hmm, were you lonely down there?” Miles joked, looking directly at the punk now.
“Maybe.” Hobie said, leaning closer to the boys face. He could see him more closely this way.
The way his chest went up an down, the way his breathe left his mouth in a fog, just to disappear in the frigid air, the way he gulped a little as he looked at his eyes; surely seeing something that urges him forward. It felt like the only thing Hobie’s ever known, the only thing he’ll ever need to know.
And, the way he looked at him. God, that’s the only thing he won’t know about ‘im; the one thing a teacher couldn’t teach and the one thing he could never put into words.
It quickens his own breathe and makes him feel feelings he doesn’t understand.
But he wants to understand.
He… finally feels like it’s the time to learn, to fully take a look at everything Miles is, no exceptions. Maybe then he could understand them, fully embrace them. Show them to this beautiful boy.
“Why do you look at me like that?” He said softly as he tilted back just a bit.
“W-what?” Miles said, like he just snapped out a trance. Yet, even out the trance his gaze on him was unwavering and left goosebumps on his skin and a nervous lump in his stomach.
Yeah, he needs to know what that look means, now.
“Why do you look at me like that?” He said a little louder, choked up a little.
“Why does that matter right now?” Miles gritted out red faced, looking away from him.
“Cause I want to know.” Hobie shrugged. “Does there have to be a reason?” After a few seconds of silence, he looked over at him expectantly, but all he saw was the back of his head and his fist clenched in his lap. Weird.
“…Am I a joke to you?” He finally uttered out, sagging his shoulders like he’s given up on holding his own weight.
What?
“What?” Hobie blurted out, now bending forward even further to see Sunflower’s face. What’s going on? “What’s wrong?” He said worriedly as he still stood silent.
“I- you- it’s” Miles whipped around abruptly as he tried to form his words, “This! This is wrong!” He looked like he was about to rip his hair out as he pushed a finger into Hobie’s chest. “You think this shit is funny?”
At that, the punk furrowed his brows and immediately went into the offensive. Is he talking about them almost kissing? Was- were they about to kiss? What’s going on? Was he getting the wrong idea this whole time? Again, what’s going on!?
“You got a problem?” He said darkly as he himself clenched his fists. He knew this was too much to ask for.
“Oh no no no you can’t turn this on me, dude, I’m tired of this-“ “Tired? You were the one that’s iniated everything!” Hobie practically shouted as he pushed Miles farther away, almost completely off the roof.
“…”
Miles stared at him open mouthed as he held back tears. Tears. Like he should be the one crying. Asshole.
“Fine, that’s how it is?” He breathed out as jumped off the roof himself, then jumped off the railing 5 feet off the floor and still landing perfectly. He would’ve been impressed, if he wasn’t shaking and having the urge to throttle said bloke.
“I try to make it obvious I like you, give you multiple hints, give you every chance to leave meand I’m the one at fault?? Go fuck yourself!” Miles shouted, voice cracking and sounding like its on the brink of not working at all, as his crush looked at him wide eyed. “Really, go fucking fuck yourself!”
“What?” He whispered softly.
He liked him? He thought so but then- Hold on- what’s going on?? What are they arguing about? What’s going on!?
However before he could voice his concerns, the boy of his dreams ran off. He ran away from him. Because of him.
…
Shit.
