Chapter 2
After the Battle of New York there was many things to be taken care of none as sad as the funeral arrangements that need to be made as well as attended. For the Shield as whole it seemed like one in particular was the hardest Agent Coulson the one that was always the most optimistic and the one good eye of the Director of Shield. For Melinda May it was one of the hardest things to do. Getting ready for the funeral that her parents would be attending with her more like forcing her she would rather fight a hundred thugs than do. “Bǎobǎo it is time.” Lian May said in the most softest tone of voice that Melinda only heard three times now since adulthood. “Mama I don’t think I can do this.” Melinda voice came out raspy and rough from the hours of crying and screaming. “Oh Bǎobǎo we have got you, but you need to do this you will regret it if you don’t.” Melinda sighs and puts the leather jacket on that Phil gave her years ago before Bahrain, before their separation, and before their marriage. It was a one year anniversary gift of them dating.
She opens the door to see her mama’s face. “Your baba and I have got you Bǎobǎo, I promise we will not let you fall today.” Lian May says and Melinda just nods. They go downstairs to find her baba trying to tie his tie. Lian May tilts her head to the side and shakes it. “After all the years you still can’t do it right.” Lian walks to her husband and ties his tie smoothing out the nonexistent wrinkles. Melinda is filled with a deep sadness that hasn’t left, but being more like ocean that comes in waves. Both her parents look at her and walk to her to guide her to the car. Her baba sits in the back just holding her like a child. Melinda’s thoughts are filled with how she is the one that stop the last years of her marriage short by leaving.
They arrive at the funeral and Lian guides them to sit in the last row. Melinda in between the both of them. The funeral is held outside and the seats quickly fill with people that cared and worked with Phil Coulson. There are so many people in the area which is surprising because of the clean up still happening. Natasha Romanoff, Clint Barton, and Tony Stark were the only avengers present. The funeral started and was really nothing for Melinda, because she could hear anything besides the thought and memories in her mind. She felt pressure against her legs to look up to see someone resting against her from what Melinda can see she has dark black hair much like her own. Both her parents move to get her off you before they see her hand reach up to hold Melinda’s. They are all in shock when they see Melinda’s wedding ring on her index finger and look to her other hand hold a bottle of Haig which she knows for a fact belongs to Phil Coulson on that hand around her thumb is Coulson’s wedding ring. That he never took off unless on a mission, but held them close to his heart on a chain.
The funeral was coming to a close. Melinda brought back to reality when the guns were shot both she and the girl jolted at the sound each time. She was about to ask who she was when someone walked around. “Daisy May Coulson, I have been looking for you. It is time for you to come with me.” The new lady said. The girl looks up and hold Melinda the half filled bottle. Melinda in shock that she said Coulson. Looking at the girl’s face she couldn’t be older than 18 years old. Melinda’s filling rapidly with questions. The girl’s face is haunted and filled with sorrow. She walks towards the new lady and says, “No I don’t think I will be.” She twirls around kicking the lady in the ankles before reeling back to kick her in the stomach. She looks down at Melinda and says “Take care of yourself okay?” tossing her a box not waiting on an answer. She runs immediately after doing.
