bakugo freaking katsuki

The sunset basked over their faces, curving over their noses like a dirty little secret. Izuku stood with his hands deep in his pockets, standing on the hill appreciatively with Ochako beside him, her pink sundress flowing behind. She twirled a strand of hair around her finger, glancing between the boy beside her and the sunset. It painted the sky in a brilliant orange as though it was bleeding. As though it was drowning the sky in color. Ochako had a hard time focusing on anything but Izuku. He was just so immaculate. Standing there in his baggy sweatpants and a too-small shirt that read “I’m a gamer, not a player. Players get girls, I get bullied at school”.

God, he was so hot.

Ochako turned her head away and bit her lip, biting back the blush covering her face. She hoped the sunlight hid it. She had been waiting for this. She had wanted to be one-on-one with Izuku for such a long time. The feeling in her heart was blooming so much, and she had a hard time repressing it. It was difficult to get Izuku alone because he and Katsuki had such frequent sparring sessions that they both were desperate to have. Training must have been really important to them. She was glad they were such good friends now!

Izuku turned to her with a bright smile, “The sunset is really beautiful, Uraraka!”

“It is,” Ochako tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, “Deku-kun, you can always call me ‘Ochako’ if it’s easier.”

He thought about it, “No, that’s too personal–? but thank you!” He gave her a kind and genuine thumbs-up before turning back to the sky. Izuku began mumbling something under his breath that she couldn’t hear.

Too personal, she thought. Ochako moved a little closer to him, trying to inch their pinkies together. She wanted this to be personal. She wanted to be close to him. The closer she got, the more oblivious he seemed to what she was doing. He must be so nervous around her. That was normal for girls you liked, right? Izuku must’ve been afraid of making her uncomfortable, and that was why he wouldn’t make a move. He was so considerate. Too considerate, she wanted to get this show on the road.

The class (mostly the girls) had made a bet that Izuku would be the best kisser out of all the guys. Well, the gentlest and most romantic kisser, by Mina’s description. And someone had to test it out. Who else but her? She was almost certain Izuku felt the same. Or, maybe not? Everyone had been convincing her of it and she would feel horrible to be wrong. But she couldn’t keep hiding it from him. Not when he deserved a loving girlfriend!

She bumped his shoulder with hers, prompting his attention. He looked down at her with a question in his eyes. She looked up with what she hoped he read as her affections. They were so close.

“Izuku,” Ochako whispered and glanced down at his lips.

He looked surprised at the usage of his given name, “Yes?”

She brought her hand against his chest lovingly, “What are you mumbling about?” she said with as much seduction as she could.

He smiled and moved away from her, walking closer to the edge of the grassy hill as if he were to begin a dramatic monologue, “The sunset reminds me of someone.”

“Oh, yeah?” Ochako trailed behind his footsteps, “What are they like?”

“They’re brave.”

“Mhm.”

“They’re amazing and tactical, a brilliant fighter. Watching them always makes my heart soar,” Izuku flushed as if realizing how that sounded, “W-With inspiration, I mean.”

Ochako hummed low, “Is that so?”

“Yeah.”

She wrapped her arms around his bicep, leaning into him. Ochako stood on her toes and got discretely up closer to his face, “They sound nice.”

Izuku turned his head away just before she could get too close, the kind smile never leaving his face, “I don’t know if nice is the right word. But Kacchan is a great person! He’s kind in his own way, and ‘nice’ and ‘kind’ are different meanings. I know he really cares about people. The sunset reminds me of his quirk, how it bursts and makes people stare. It’s also bright, like him! Kacchan–”

Izuku continued rambling about Katsuki and his power. How brave and passionate he was and how much he was alike the bright sky, but mellow like how the moon would be. Mellow as in he was quiet until provoked by someone so much as glancing at him.

Ochako had stopped listening. She only heard the distant sound of his voice and she wished she could kiss him to shut him up because she honestly did not care and needed to report back to the ladies. However, Ochako did enjoy his company.

Izuku had snaked his arm out of her grasp when he was using it to gesture something about explosions.

Then the sun finally fell.

When they walked back inside together, everyone was in the common area. A few people slung over couches or talked in the kitchen, while others just sat curled on the floor or wherever they could find. Ochako caught the eye of Mina, and she felt like Toru looked too, but she couldn’t tell to be honest. She gave them both a tight smile and a small head shake.

Mina frowned and whipped her head toward Izuku.

Wasting no time.

“Midoryia!” She said innocently and called over the chatter in the room, “Are you single?”

Everyone in the common area went immediately silent and all eyes turned toward him. Ochako gaped as though she had been betrayed in the deepest offense, a silent shriek coming out of her mouth before she slapped a hand over it. And the boy in question was comically frozen mid-sentence from where he had started talking to Katsuki and Eijiro.

Izuku blinked a few times and looked uncomfortably around at everyone, “Uh...why?”

“Just wonderinggg,” Mina giggled, “It’s fun, no?”

No,” Katsuki grumbled and crossed his arms.

“Rhetorical question, blondie,” Mina scoffed and got up from her spot, walking over to Izuku and wrapping an arm around his shoulders in a friendly way.

Izuku smiled shakily.

Katsuki narrowed his eyes at Mina, “Yer makin’ him uncomfortable.”

“No! No, it’s okay!” Izuku assured her when she gave him an apologetic look, “I am single. Uh–to–well, um, answer your question, I guess?”

“Interesting,” The girl responded enigmatically. She retracted her arm and walked away with hands on her hips, swaying them intentionally to convey sass. People had more or less resumed their own conversations but some students still kept an ear open.

Denki laughed at her movements, “You trying to seduce us, pinky?”

“Always,” Mina replied easily with a dramatic wave of her hand, “It’s my part-time job.”

“We all know you ain’t gotta job,” Katsuki quipped with an eye roll, “Let alone a part-time one.”

“Yuh-huh! I’m the matchmaker!”

At this, everyone in the room gave her a look that could only be read as doubt.

Kyoka sucked in her teeth, “Girl…”

“What!? I’m perfect!”

There was a collective, disbelieving noise.

She protested again.

And Izuku, happy to have the attention off of him, moved to sit down beside Katsuki. The blond moved over discreetly to make room for him. They sat side-by-side and Izuku started asking him random hypotheticals he had thought of throughout the day. Or just plain old things. Things like:

Would you rather be too powerful for your own good or have no power at all?

or

I saw this thread saying All Might doesn’t deserve the fame! Can you believe that?!

or

How was your day? Do anything interesting?

and the replies of

It ain’t bad. how was yours, nerd?

or–

“Sorry, I haven’t responded to that message yet! I’ve been busy with training, and Uraraka and I went for a walk together so there hasn’t been any free time. Was it important? Is it too late? Should I look now? I’ll try and be more mindful of it."

“It’s fine, idiot. Don’t get all worked up,” Katsuki gave him a fond glare and then looked down at the floor.

Eijiro glanced over from where he had been grinning at Mina, catching Katsuki’s eye just as he looked up again. They held eye contact before Katsuki sneered and shoved the redhead with his foot. Eijiro pretended to gag, laughed, then moved away from his floor spot to go stand beside Mina.

After a few more minutes, someone interrupted Katsuki and Izuku’s conversation.

“Bakugo,” Denki had his feet sprawled out over an entire couch and Kyoka’s lap (against her will), “Isn’t it past your bedtime?”

Katsuki scowled at him, “It ain’t a bedtime, stop discrediting my good habits with your baby vocab.”

"What.”

“It’s a respectable time to sleep.”

“Okay, Grandpa.”

“Okay, anthropomorphic Pokemon incarnat–”

“Bro, how do you come up with this?”

“He looks in the mirror and practices,” Izuku teased, patting Katsuki’s shoulder.

Katsuki’s eyes softened for a second before he abruptly stood up from the couch.

“It’s fucking late and we have class tomorrow. I’m going to sleep, and if you were fucking smart, you would too.”

Ochako glanced desperately over the tempting, now available seat beside Izuku. And she stared at him as if she could force him–-by sheer will–-to stay put so she could move over to him. Maybe she could be exhausted. Rest her head on his shoulder–

Izuku stood up as well, “Yeah, maybe I’ll go up to my room too. I have some of my show to watch anyway!”

Katsuki stopped walking to wait for him, “You’re gonna get distracted and forget to sleep, dumbass.”

“No!” Izuku walked quickly over to him, “I promise! I’ll set an alarm and everything so–”

“No goodnight for us?” Mina called over to them with a playful pout.

“No,” Katsuki snapped at the same time that Izuku said “Sorry!”

“Goodnight everyone! Sleep well,” Izuku smiled and waved before resuming his promise not to stay up for a ridiculously long time.

Everyone watched them retreat to the elevator and talk quietly to each other as they waited for the doors to close. Izuku began laughing just as the door closed on both of the boy’s faces.

The class sat still for a second as if the silence was holding something. As if their voices would get caught and carried somewhere they shouldn’t be found.

Then they broke it–

Momo leaned forward eagerly, a cup of tea between her palms, “So?”

Ochako groaned and buried her face in her hands.

The entire class was aware of her crush. Except for Izuku himself. And even though not everyone agreed that they would be a good couple, they still were willing to listen and keep their disagreements to themselves. If not to be a good friend, then because, frankly, Class 3-A loved drama.

Katsuki openly disagreed for the reason of ‘not seeing it fit’.

Eijiro politely disagreed with the reasoning of ‘Izuku not seeming interested in her’.

(many people keep their opinions private)

And Mina thought both of those disagreements were ludicrous.

“What happened?” Almost everyone exclaimed in unison.

“I was basically presenting myself on a freaking silver platter and he didn’t do anything!” Ochako spoke muffled into her palms, “I was trying so hard, I don’t get it!”

“Oui!” Aoyama piped up simply because he wanted to contribute something in French.

Shoto gave her a pitiful look and an awkward pat on the shoulder, “It’s okay, Uraraka.”

“What exactly did you do?” Asui asked with a furrowed brow.

Ochako groaned again in response, then decided to answer Asui’s question, “I wore one of my nicest dresses on our walk–” she held up one finger to keep track “–then I told him he could call me my given name–” two fingers “–I got close to him–” three “–put my hand on his chest like I was going to freakin’ kiss him or something–” four “–I tried to be seductive, I swear! He was mumbling, so I asked what he was thinking about and guess. what. he. said–”

Ochako finally held up all five fingers and slammed them on the table for emphasis, “That the sunset reminded him of Katsuki-freaking-Bakugo!”

The table started floating upwards before she released it with a huff and sat back, crossing her arms over her chest.

Everyone murmured to each other.

Mineta put a hand on her forearm and sighed dramatically, “That’s rough, baby. You gotta get someone to treat you right.”

“Get the hell away from me.”

“Woah, Woah–” Eijiro waved his hands to fizzle the tension, “He said what about Bakugo.”

“The sunset reminded him of Bakugo’s quirk, I don’t know!” Ochako scoffed in defeat, “All I’m saying is it didn’t work out. He’s dense! I have to say it!”

Iida and Momo both shook their heads.

Momo spoke over her tea, “Midoryia is intelligent. Maybe he simply doesn’t have a knack for romance.”

Tokoyami, who was reading a book (and keeps his verbal opinions very rare), actually said, “I agree with Yaoyorozu. Either he is romantically challenged or is trying to politely get Uraraka to back off.”

“No!” Mina immediately disagreed, “He definitely likes her!”

“How can you know that though?” Kyoka asked.

Oijiro nodded as Denki zoned out fiddling with his tail, “Yeah. How do you know he likes her? He’s kind to everyone. I think he treats her the same as everyone else.”

The class saw the logic in this statement.

Eijiro awkwardly contributed something, knowing it might annoy Mina, “Yeah. I don’t mean this to hurt your feelings–” he gently says to the troubled-looking Ochako “–But Midoryia is just a nice dude. Nothing romantic is my guess.”

Mina made an indignant sound.

“Maybe he likes someone else?” Toru suggested, “May explain his disinterest.”

Everyone went quiet at that.

“Who would it be?” Asui stuck her tongue out and spoke it almost in a conspiratorial whisper.

Before people could start speculating, Mina stood up and gestured around at everyone in annoyance, “You people know nothing! I’m telling you! Stop with this.”

“Mina,” Eijiro stood up and moved over to her, “You can’t get upset and meddle in people’s love lives all the time. I know it’s fun but–”

Mina walked past him and grabbed Ochako by the arm, ignoring the surprised sound the girl makes, “‘Night everyone. Meeting over. Ochako, babe, come ‘ere.”

A few people called out in protest at their leave, but ultimately couldn’t stop them. Mina dragged Ochako, down the hall, around a corner, and immediately started complaining about everyone else. Ochako didn’t know what to do (still sulking) so she just listened and waited for it to end.

“I promise you, ‘Chako, he’s gotta like you!” Mina slammed her fist into her palm for emphasis, “We will get him, you understand?”

Ochako stared at her wide-eyed, “Well, um, we shouldn’t force it right?”

“We aren’t forcing it!” Mina exclaimed and grabbed the other girl by the shoulders, shaking some sense into her, “I have a plan.”

Ochako shook her head with a frown, “Really–-thank you–-but maybe they’re right about–”

Mina groaned loudly and slapped a hand to her forehead, “My love, they are brainwashing you!”

“Uh, what?”

“Listen to me,” releasing her shoulders, Mina began to pace back, “Midoryia will be ours.”

Ochako blinked, “Ours?”

Yours–whatever. That isn’t the point.”

They stared at each other in determination.

Mina pointed a finger in Ochako’s face, “Do you trust me?”

“Yes?”

Bad idea!
