She lives in daydreams with me
Ricky and Penny were sat at an outside table at a local restaurant. They were glad they had now moved to the coast as the salt in the air and the waves crashing was a bliss upon both of their ears. Ricky and Penny just smiled wide at each other as they enjoyed their food.
"Remember when I asked you out?" Ricky signed, catching Penny off guard.
Penny covered her face and smiled at the memory, "Oh my god yeah" .
---
A cold and snowy day wasn't uncommon in Canada. In fact, it probably made the whole day better. It was the first day of Christmas break and Penny had slept over the day before. Ricky was reminded of this fact when he woke up to Penny's arms around him. Oh. My. God.
Ricky did everything in his power to find a way to manoeuvre out of Penny's arms without waking her up. Unfortunately, his most successful attempt ended up with a half asleep Penny's even closer to him. He could feel breath escape her lips and onto his. He widened his eyes as he tried to leave, blushing like crazy.
"Don't" Penny whispered, still half asleep. Ricky stayed still. He kept a close watch on the taller girl, making sure he would definitely look asleep when she woke up. However, that didn't work when Penny's eyes suddenly shot open as he was staring at her lips. Fuck.
"Oh my god, I'm so sorry" Penny apologised, quickly unravelling her arms from around Ricky. Ricky suddenly felt this strange yearning for her touch again.
Ricky nodded and sat up. They both sat next to each other. Unsure whether the distance between them was uncomfortable or not.
"I'm really sorry about, that. I must have moved in my sleep sorry" Penny apologised. Ricky tried to ignore the blush that swept across both their faces.
"Don't worry about it" Ricky signed in response, slightly wishing for the moment to just reappear again and again. He slowly made his way over and sat closer to Penny. She didn't move. He just got redder.
"Penny, if I told you something you didn't like, we'd still be friends yeah?" Ricky signed.
"Yeah! What did you wanna tell me?" Penny asked.
"Well. Penny i." Ricky signed, he was shaking too much to actually make his signs intelligible.
"Hey it's ok, what did you wanna tell me?" Penny comforted, restring her hand on Ricky's knee, which, in all honesty, made it a lot more difficult for him to sign his words correctly.
"Okay I'm good now. Penny. I really like you. Like, more than a friend and I guess just waking up like that made me realize I should probably tell you at some point or I'm gonna be a mess whenever we made contact. I just wanted you to know" he signed quickly, not looking at Penny until he finished.
When he finally did look up, he saw Penny smiling wide and blushing like crazy.
"Ricky, I really like you too! You don't know how long I've waited for you to say that!" Penny said, holding Rickys hands before hugging him tight.
"Can I kiss you?" She asked, Ricky nodded enthusiastically before he felt her lips on his. Oh my god. It felt as if the two were flung into the depths of space together, surrounded my stars and nebulas and galaxies and planets and everything. They travelled at both a snails pace and at light speed at the same time. Shocks of joy went through Ricky as he kissed her back. He pulled back as he yearned for her lips again. Hoping it wouldn't be long before they were connected again.
"You're incredible" Ricky signed, out of breath.
"So are you" Penny smiled, laughing into Ricky's shoulder.
---
"I'm still slightly sorry about holding you in my sleep by the way!" Penny laughed before taking a swig of her drink.
"I mean, if you never did I never would have confessed to you" Ricky signed whilst laughing.
"Really?!"
"Yeah! I guess when I saw you blush after holding me I got kinda confident that you liked me and asked you out. If you didn't move in your sleep I never would have asked you out, and I wouldn't be here now"
"It's insane how it all works out! What about when we told my parents about us?" Penny asked.
"Well we didn't tell them they worked it out"
"Still!"
---
Penny was around Ricky's for the night. It had just turned spring and the once leafless trees that sprawled along the street were now sprouting with leaves and blossoms. A time which Penny loved as she collected the prettiest blossom flowers she could and she gave them to her boyfriend.
Ricky was happily sitting on his bed as Penny carefully made him a flower crown, he felt goosebumps along his neck whenever she got close enough that the distance between them was practically non existent.
"Oh my god" Penny laughed as she pulled out her phone camera to show Ricky how he looked. Ricky covered his mouth and laughed into Penny's shoulder.
"You look amazing" Penny said, pulling Ricky in front of her by his chin.
"Speak for yourself" his aac device blarred out, before he pulled her in for a kiss. He could feel her lips pull into a smile as she kissed back. Honestly, it was all peaceful!
Well, until the door opened and Ricky's mom and dad stood there, mouth slightly agape.
Penny just looked up and her face flushed pink with embarrassment.
"Hi Mr and Mrs Potts. " She said, quickly unravelling her hands from Ricky's hair and putting her hands in her lap.
"Hello Penny, we just wanted you to know that dinner was on the table" Mr Potts signed, quite awkwardly.
"Yeah, thanks" Ricky signed back.
"Oh and, well done you two! Just, keep the door open slightly" Ricky's mom signed, before closing the door, leaving a slight creek open.
"Mom!" Ricky signed, Penny covered her mouth to hide her laughter, one which was mixed with genuine laughter and partly to hide her embarrassment and bright red face.
"Loving the crowd by the way Ricky" his dad signed before leaving.
Ricky covered his face in embarrassment and fell into Penny's shoulder whilst laughing.
"Jesus Christ" he signed. Penny just laughed harder.
"I love you" she said as she stood up and passed Ricky his crutches.
"Love you too" he signed, kissing Penny's cheek before leaving to go to dinner. A very, very awkward dinner.
"Sooo, how long have you two been going out?" Ricky's mom asked.
"About 5 months" Penny signed back, looking at her dinner.
"Well that's nice!" Ricky's dad signed back.
"Why didn't you tell us?" His mom asked
"Well, I just never thought to" Ricky signed back.
The rest of the dinner was awkward. No one else signed or said anything. God if only they knocked every once in a while.
---
"It was so awkward but so funny at the same time" Penny laughed.
"Are you kidding? My parents still bring it up!" Ricky laughed. Looking out at the sea.
"Should we pay and go to the beach?" He asked, Penny nodded as they called a waiter and payed.
They slowly made their way down to the beach, just loving the presence of each other.
"Moving in with you is the best decision I ever made" Penny said, kissing Ricky on the forehead as she sat on the sand, enjoying the sound of the waves going in and out.
---
A few months ago, Ricky got the best news of his life. His art got accepted, and he was going to be working with Disney. This has always been his dream, so for him to get that confirmation email, his life changed for the better.
So, he and Penny packed their bags, gave Ricky's parents a tearful goodbye, before they made their way to California.
The day they arrived at their new home would never be forgotten. It had a certain smell of old carpet and their neighbors upstairs and next door were both extraordinarily loud, but it was theirs.
Luckily for them, they payed extra for someone to set up their furniture, so they roamed the streets of Cali.
They stopped at the exact same restaurant they would be sitting at before this flashback started. Crazy how it all comes full circle isn't it?
They got back as they payed the guy who set up their furniture. Penny and Ricky immediately flipped down onto the bed together, holding hands.
"I'm so proud of you" Penny whispered, planting a kiss on Ricky's lips.
"I'm so proud of us. I mean, we're doing this together aren't we?" Ricky signed back, kissing Penny again.
---
Ricky smiled out to the sea. The sun was long set but a nice warm breezed caressed it's way across his arms. California was definitely so much nicer that Uranium. Well, anywhere was better than Uranium, bit still! It's quite high on the list of 'places better that Uranium' that Penny keeps in her top drawer.
Penny wrapped her arms around Ricky's torso, as Ricky dug through his pockets for something. When he finally found it, he pulled Penny to make sure they were talking eye to eye.
"Penny, I've known you most of my life. I can't imagine my life without you in it. You truly are the most beautiful girl I've ever met" Ricky signed before tucking Penny's hair behind her ears.
"You are probably the best person I'll ever meet. I hope I have a future with you"
"I hope to have one with you as well, which is why, I wanted to ask... " Ricky now pulled the box out of his pocket, revealing a ring of a bright diamond surrounded by aquamarine dots.
Penny widened her eyes as she realized what was happening. She had to stop herself from screaming yes at this very moment.
"Penny. I can't imagine my future without you. Quite frankly, I don't want to. I want everyone to know I have my whole future with you if you wish to wear this ring. Which is why I ask; Penny, will you marry me?" Ricky signed quickly.
"Yes! Of course! Holy shit yes!" Penny shouted. Ricky carefully took the ring out and carefully slid it into Penny's ring finger. Penny took a second to admire it before pulling Ricky into a deep kiss. This was the best moment of her life.
"I love you" Ricky signed.
"I love you too" Penny smiled back. Already planning the wedding.
