Until I found you

Ocean and Penny were sitting on a bench together, overlooking the Pacific Ocean as the sunset drew across the coast of LA. Ocean lay her head on her girlfriend's shoulder as they interlocked fingers on Penny's lap. They both stayed quiet, the atmosphere spoke novels in and enough itself. Penny strategically held Ocean's hands away from her pockets. Penny thought back. About life, about Ocean. About them. Penny couldn't think about anything else, no matter what moment she was thinking of, Ocean stood out to her.

"Oce" Penny started, still looking out to the sunset in front of them. Ocean just made a hum of recognition.

"Remember when we first came out to the choir?"

---

It was a cold, dreary and rainy day in Saskatchewan. The choir were having a late practice as they were going to a competition the next morning, a proper one, one a two hour drive away. They were trying to prepare. By now the streetlights were seen through the condensation on the window, the light being brighter where Ricky had drawn multiple smiley faces across the window.

Father Marcus sat on his desk at the computer which held the lyrics being projected onto the board, scrolling when necessary, however, they were at a 10 minute break, and he sat there quietly, freezing the board and presumably reading through emails, pulling up his glasses to rub his eyes every once in a while.

Noel sat in one corner of the room, finishing up some art homework, his tongue slightly sticking out when he concentrated on the small details of his piece. His earphones played music just about loud enough that you could hear the beat of the songs through them, he didn't mind though.

Ricky sat at the piano next to the window, absentmindedly drawing patterns onto the window as his phone was plugged into the plug socket below.

Constance sat quietly next to Noel. She was reading through recipes on Pinterest, tapping Noel every once in a while asking if she should bake them, to which Noel would nod his head, not taking his eyes off his work. She also had headphones in, obviously a lot quieter than Noel's as you couldn't hear what she was listening to, but she unconsciously tapped her foot to the tempo of the song.

Mischa sat in another corner of the room, having stolen another chair to prop his feet up as he smiled at his phone, presumably talking to Talia. He also had homework to do, but he didn't care. He doesn't even remember the last time he bought in homework.

Ocean and Penny sat together at the back of the room, Penny moving Ocean's hair out of her face as the red head spoke passionately about how she only got an A on a project she definitely should've gotten an A+ on. Penny listened to Ocean talking, admiring how she looked, nodding along, resisting every urge to kiss her stupidly cute face. That's when Penny realized, no one knew they were dating.

Well, Ezra did. He had the unfortunate experience of walking in on them when they were making out, but his only friends are the college kids he sells his Ritalin to, meaning they didn't have to worry about him snitching, and he knew better than to tell their parents. Meaning that they had never actually told anyone they were dating.

Penny leaned in to whisper to Ocean, not that anyone was listening, but she was just making sure.

"Ocean, can I ask you a question?"

"Yeah, of course, are you ok?" Ocean looked at Penny with unnecessary concern.

"Well, I was wondering, if you would like to, maybe, tell the choir. About, you know, us?" Penny's stumbled over her own words, unsure of why.

"I mean yeah! Like when? I'd be happy to do it now!" Ocean smiled.

"Maybe wait for when Father Marcus leaves the room, he might tell our parents." Penny said, to which Ocean did something unprecedented, she poured water over her sheet music.

"Oh gosh, Father! Is there any more sheets for head over heels? I spilt water on mine and ruined it!" Ocean complained, smiling slightly at Penny.

Father Marcus rummaged around his desk trying to find a spare sheet of paper before giving up.

"I'm sorry Ocean I dont, let me just print one off, I'll be back in 5 minutes" Father said, clicking around on his computer and going (presumably) to the room across the school where everything got printed.

As soon as the door shut behind him, Ocean stood up, taking Penny with her to the front of the room.

"Everyone! I have an announcement!" Ocean said loudly, everyone who heard her making a look of annoyance, apart from Noel, who didn't even realize Ocean was talking until Constance tapped him and he took out his headphones with annoyance.

"What is it now Ocean? Is it that we can go home? It's 6:30 and I'm starving!" Noel complained loudly.

"No! But I promise practice will be over soon. I- we, actually wanted to let everyone know that Me and Penny are dating!" Ocean said, Penny smiled, taken slightly aback about how straight forward she was being, but she didn't mind, it's one of the few things she loves about her girlfriend.

"Oh thank god, if I had to sit through Ocean rant about Penny one more time I would have strangled myself" Noel, said. Although, everyone seemed to be cool with it.

"How long?" Ricky asked, his AAC device blaring through the room.

"About two months" Penny said, sounding nervous.

"You good?" Mischa asked Penny, raising an eyebrow slightly.

"Yeah, I guess I've never come out to anyone before so it's kinda nerve wracking" Penny laughed awkwardly. Every one collectively got up and Pulled the two girls into a hug, letting go quickly when Ricky let everyone know Father Marcus was down the hall.

Everyone went back to how they were before.

"Ok! Everyone stand up, we are going to run through all the songs one last time then we are going home! Trust me, I don't want to be here either" Father Marcus said, oblivious to what just happened. Penny and Ocean smiled at each other as they took their places on the stand.

---

Ocean smiled slightly at the memory, she's never felt a more comfortable atmosphere around the choir, she was so happy they were all still friends. The choir, no matter the difference, will never leave each other's sides.

"How could I forget that? It's one of my happiest memories" Ocean smiled, leaning her head into Penny's shoulder, admiring the sky which had turned slightly pink at this point. A shade quite similar to Penny's face.

"Wanna know my favorite memory?" Ocean spoke

"What?" Penny said, looking at Ocean with a look of excitement, she's heard this story many a time, and she'll never stop her.

"Our first kiss" Ocean smiled.

---

The two girls were hanging out at Ocean's house, the heavy rain outside making manic tapping sounds against the window. The two girls were laying on the bed, Ocean had put her CD player on, playing quiet music in the background as Penny and Ocean just talked quietly. Ocean couldn't help but think they were much closer than usual. Did she mind? No. Was it making her brain implode? Yes.

They were looking at each other, so close they were sharing oxygen, each breath making Penny's hair stand up on end, feeling the knots in her stomach and the blush on her cheeks is a feeling she'll never get tired of.

They looked deep into the other's eyes when one of them spoke, Ocean held Penny's arm lightly, seeing the blush emerging on her porcelain face made her face tinge pink itself.

The room was silent. The house was silent. Ocean's parents were gonna be away for a few days with their weed dealer or whatever, it didn't matter, the atmosphere was indescribable. One you could bask in forever and never get bored, one you wish to never leave. As if you were floating in a never ending pool, wishing to surround yourself in stars and daydreams for the rest of eternity.

Somehow, the girls got closer. Ocean could feel every breath escaping from Penny's mouth.

Without thinking, she leaned in. Feeling a fire burn through her veins as Penny placed her hand on Ocean's faces as she deepened the kiss, leaning in more. Ocean rested her hand in Penny's hair, now realizing what she had done. She wasn't complaining though, Penny would have pulled away by now.

They pulled away and smiled, Ocean rested her forehead along Penny's hairline, ruffling her hand through the blonde, soft curls. Still bright pink. Both girls were speechless, what do you say in a situation like that?

"Sorry" Ocean whispered, not knowing weather to smile.

"Don't be" Penny smiled, before she initiated their next kiss. One much slower. Penny could feel Ocean's smile appearing on her lips as she leaned in. Penny ruffled her hand through the smaller girls hair as she leaned in more. A wave of relief ran through her body, she knew Ocean liked her back. That's all that matters.

They lost each other in Elysium, and seemed to be strangers when they met again, yet all of that seemed to go away, the fear of leaving again seemed like a distant memory to Ocean. For now, her and Penny seems closer than ever, their lips intertwined like vines on a castle. Penny was her castle, a grand one, one to be seen for miles around, one that she can and will admire for hours.

They pulled away slowly, as Ocean filled with a sense of longing for Penny's lips on hers again.

"What are we?" Ocean asked.

"Maybe we'll plan that along the way" Penny smiled, before kissing Ocean once again. Life was at an all time best. The sound of the music and rain outside was a distant memory as the two girls leaned into each other, brushing lips as oxygen fell out of the equation. Their fingers intermingling in each others hair, causing a right old mess that neither would undo.

When they did let go, they smiled and laughed, falling into each others arms, all sounds coming back to them at once;  the rain, the music, the ruffle in the blanket whenever they moved, the creak in the bed as they got off. A wave of loving fell over Ocean as she touched her lips, swearing she could still feel Penny's ghostly lips upon hers.

---

Penny smiled at the memory, it had been 5 years since that day. Since then, they've graduated and Ocean finally got her acting career sorted out as Penny got a singing deal. Sure, it wasn't what they thought they'd grow up to be. They also didn't expect a lot of things. They didn't expect to move to LA, they didn't expect to still be in touch and LIVE with the choir this long after graduation. They didn't expect that they would no longer like their parents, the people they would look up to as small children. Ocean wasn't going to expect what Penny was going to do next.

Penny and Ocean stood up, the sky filled with pinks, yellows and oranges, causing a ray of gold over Ocean's face, one which made Penny smile profusely. She held Ocean's hands in hers, looking over the balcony to the beach, where tourists were slowly clearing up and leaving, the Ocean had slowly been making its way in, the waves now crashing louder on the shore. Yet, it was all quiet for them, a lone bench atop a cliff. Just them.

"Ocean, can I tell you something?" Penny started.

"Of course Penn, what did you wanna say?" Ocean said, smiling sweetly at her girlfriend.

"Since we first met, even when we were little kids, I have always felt drawn to you. When you and your family packed up and moved to Uranium I still felt drawn to you, as if some invisible force was drawing us together. And when we met again in high school, we only grew closer. I always knew you were going to be a huge part of my life, and I don't think I will experience that with anyone else" Penny stated, pushing Ocean's hair out of her face and planting a small kiss on her forehead. Ocean just smiled wider, resting her hands on Penny's waist.

"Ocean, you don't know how happy you make me, sometimes I just wanna scream and tell everyone I see how incredible you are, you changed my life for the best. And I wanted to ask you something" Penny said, Ocean nodded her head, insinuating for penny to carry on. Penny carefully pulled a box out of her pocket and got onto one knee.

"Youll always be there for me, forever and ever, which is why I wanna ask you something insane. Ocean O'Connell-Rosenberg, will you marry me?" Penny asked, shaking slightly as she as she held the box.

"Oh my gosh?! Of course! Yes! Yes Penny!" Ocean squealed, the only noise being honks of congrats from cars passing by.

Penny carefully took the diamond and emerald ring out of the box and slid it carefully onto her FIANCEE'S hand. God this felt incredible. Penny quickly stood up and pulled Ocean in for a quick kiss, one no different than their first.

They were getting married. This was going to be an adventure.
