Ricky and Penny were going out for about 2 months before the cyclone. No one knew.

In the afterlife, everyone was scared of Jane. Sure, she looked a little spooky but he could recognize his girlfriend any day. That was Penny Lamb. His girlfriend. It seemed like, although Penny lost all her memories, she remembered Ricky. They were totally enamoured with each other. They shared a secret kiss in the corner where no one could see them. They laughed quietly, before it was revealed that Ocean was going to decide who goes back. 

Really? 

Ocean? 

The girl who has just spent the whole hour talking about how much better she is than everyone else, the girl who would vote for herself at any opportunity given. Ocean? 

"You knew all along I could never do it" Ocean realized

"Do what?" Karnak asked. 

"Vote for myself." Ocean practically whispered, everyone seemed to look at each other, shocked. 

Ocean O'Connell-Rosenberg? Choosing herself? This was practically unheard off, however, this whole death experience had changed her a bit. She was a little more bareable than before. 

"Her. That's my vote" Ocean said, looking at Jane. 

Ricky sat there wide eyed. Sure, one of them had to go back, but this decision shocked him. He looked at the floor, not daring to look Jane/Penny in the eyes, in fear he might start crying. 

"I love you" he whispered under his breath, that's all he could do. He couldn't burst out sobbing, dramatically jumping into life with her. He just stared at the floor, the light of the portal disappearing was the only indicator was that she was gone. He'd never see her again. 

He'll never hug her. They won't trip kids up in the hallway anymore. They won't secretly kiss at the back of choir. They won't have movie nights anymore. They won't read books together, laughing at the characters being stupid anymore. They'll never hold hands on a picnic date. They won't be together, and there was nothing Ricky could do to stop it. He couldn't even look at the video showing her life, her future, one they were meant to go through together, through thick and thin. 

Suddenly, he was being pulled into a hug, that's when he realized what was going on. Virgil was chewing through Karnak's wire. The loud buzz of electricution filled the air as everyone held on tighter. Suddenly, they were jolted out of the hug. They were stuck here. Forever. 

Ricky went and sat down on some boxes in the corner. Realizing what was going on. He'll never see his girlfriend again. He had a whole life and it was gone like that? It was all so quick. One minute he was plummeting to the floor, the next, he was singing about Zolar. God damn Zolar. The world he and Penny made up for fun, which eventually became his safe place to think. 

He couldn't help but feel himself crying. Who wouldn't? He didn't realize how much he needed this. He covered his face as the tears seemed to pour and pour. He was forever 17. His parents had no other children. He wondered if they would keep silent, would they keep the cats? He'll never know, he was meant to die younger than normal anyway, but it was meant to be peacefully in his sleep, or in hospital, having chosen himself to pull the plug. Either way, it was meant to be peaceful. He should've never gotten in that rickety cart, maybe no one else would've gone on? 

Either way, he was gone. He cried and cried, not caring about the fact he was being loud. That's when he felt a hand on his shoulder. 

"I get it Space Jesus, let it all out" Mischa comforted before pulling Ricky in for a slight hug. 

"Mischa, I'll never see Penny again, I'm not gonna see her ever again. Just like you'll never see your Talia. I've lost my girlfriend Mischa, and I'll never see her again. Jane or Penny, I don't care. I just want her back." Ricky cried as Mischa gave a reassuring rub on Ricky's back. 

"I never knew about you and Penny" 

"Well, we were gonna tell everyone after the Rollercoaster, but we kinda, you know, ended up here." Ricky mumbled, crying a little less now. 

Penny is gone. Nothing will change it.
