Let’s Do A Road Trip
Amity gave a heavy sigh as she finally got home.
Today had been a long day of this already extremely hard year.
Today had been the last day of her parents’ divorce. At last, her father managed to divorce her mother, and she had finally ran out of tricks.
She knows most children would hate that their parents got divorced, but Amity couldn’t wait for this to be over and for her mother to be out of her life.
Odalia is the main reason of Amity’s trauma and therapy. Ever since she remembered. Her mother had controlled her life. How she looked, what she wore, who she hanged out, even the color of her hair.
For many many years, it had been like that. But then, came high school.
And with it, came Luz.
At that year, Amity had been alone. She had been friendless. (Not that she had any real friends since Odalia forced her to leave her only friend behind), Boscha had just been expelled, and no one else met Odalia’s standards.
She met Luz by bumping into her. At the time, it meant nothing.
But somehow, that day lead to the best decision Amity made.
Luz had attempted to befriend her. Amity knew she would never be accepted by her mother, that she would get in a world of trouble. But for some reason Amity accepted her offer and became friends with Luz.
Soon, she was the closest friend she ever had.
Then she was more.
It was at Junior year, at the anual end of the year dance, that Amity knew for a fact, that she had a crush on Luz.
That was dangerous territory. Amity had known she is a lesbian for a while now, and that alone was dangerous should her mother find out. The fact she had fallen in love for someone that did not meet any of the mother’s standards made her a nervous wreck.
But...Luz was worth it.
Never in her life has Amity felt so connected to someone.
So she took the risk.
And in senior year...she planned to confess her feelings.
Only for Luz to confess to her first.
That day...Amity had been so happy....she felt like she could get away with anything.
Of course, fear for soon to her.
She kept the relationship from her parents, only telling her siblings, who kept the secret for her.
But it was later on, during college, when her mother found out.
She started yelling, telling her that she had to break up with Luz, and that she could never see her again.
And for the first time n her life, Amity fought back. She would not give up on her happiness.
The result was, Amity got kicked out of her home. After getting a black eye from her mother.
She moved in with the little she was able to get to Luz’ apartment, the place she calls home now.
It was much smaller than the manor she grew up in, but it felt so much like home than the mansion ever did.
For the next months, it was...ok. Amity was struggling with all what happened, but Luz, despite having her own issues, was there for her.
Then, one morning Amity got a call from her Dad.
He didn’t leave at home, but in another place to manage the Blight company. He only came back for meetings with her mother, and even then, it was all business. They even slept in different rooms.
Alador had called her, telling her he wanted to reconnect with his children after years of being apart.
Amity at first hesitated, but Luz managed to convince her.
So she met with him, and it was what finally started this thing.
Turns out, Odalia has been intentionally keeping Alador and the children apart, so that she had control. She had lied to him about the kids not wanting to see him, and vice versa.
When Amity told Alador about being kicked out, Alador said that enough was enough.
They called Edric and Emira, and went together to the manor, and Alador declared his intent to divorce Odalia and change things.
Odalia of course did not go down quietly. She fought against the divorce. Not because she still loved Alador. But for the money that came with the Blight name.
She constantly tried to talk to Amity. Tried to get her to help her. After all, she knew if Amity spoke in court, she would be screwed,
It was overbearing. Amity felt like she was being stalked, by her own mother !
But in the end, she didn’t allow fear to get to her, and at last, it was over.
Alador got the divorce, and practically got everything, including full custody.
For the first time, Odalia has no say on her life.
Of course, Amity knows better than to think she’s just gonna give up. But for now, it’s over.
Amity opened the door, to find Luz on her desk, waiting for her.
“Hey sweet potato....how did it go ?” Luz said, hugging and kissing her.
“It’s over now. Dad got everything, even costudy.”
“Ah that’s great ! I’m so sorry I could not be there to support you.”
“It’s fine babe. It’s not your fault you had a final exam at the same time as the court hearing.”
Amity flopped on the couch.
“I’m so tired. Not only was this year living hell. But all of this happened.”
Luz looked down. Knowing very well how hard this year has been for her girlfriend.
For Luz, Amity is her everything. For quite some time, it’s really been them against the world. With only Eda, Edric, and Emira being the ones they truly count on.
And she does know a bit about mother issues. Why Luz hasn’t talked to her mom for a long long time. And her mom wasn’t abusive, they just had...a pretty bad disagreement.
Frankly. Both of them were pretty drained.
Which is why Luz has been thinking on a way to rest.
“Say Amity, it’s now summer break. And well....you do know what’s coming, right ?”
“Em’s wedding. Yeah, we need to start looking for plane tickets and hotels.”
“Yeah about that...the wedding is a month away, and...I’ve been thinking, why not make a road trip ?”
“I’m sorry, a road trip !”
“Yeah ! Eda told me she and Raine did them all the time. Look, the wedding is a month away, so I say, you and I hop on the car, and we go around the country, taking a vacation, and just exploring new places, while we head there.”
“Well....the wedding will be far away from Gravesfield....but where would we even go ?”
“I’ve got some places in mind. I even checked what is interesting from here to the wedding, and even have looked at hotels. And well...we can always just improve.”
“It is a long drive. Are you sure we can take it ?”
“Babe. I know that if we are together, we can get threw anything.”
Amity blushes at that.
“Allright...Yeah, let’s do it ! When would we leave ?”
“Well. If we do want to be at the wedding in time. We should probably start in two days.”
“Two days !.....that should be enough to get places checked, hotels reserved, and pack things up. Ok, you continue searching for places we can go, and I’ll start making a list of everything we need. We probably should take your car since it’s more suited for dirt roads should we cross one.”
“Oh Amity, this will be so much fun ! A road trip with my awesome girlfriend ! This will be great !”
“Hehe....Yeah....it will.”
Two days later, Luz and Amity had all set.
They had their places marked, and hotels reserved for each day. They had gone shopping yesterday for everything they could need. Food, water, extra gas, supplies, maps, portable batteries, pretty much everything they could need.
“And all ready !” Luz said. Closing the back door. “We are all set !”
“I can’t believe we are doing this...I’m...actually very exited.”
“Me too hermosa, me too.”
With that, Luz got in the driver seat, while Amity got in the passenger seat.
Luz got out of the parking lot, and soon, they were on the road.
“Allright, it’s....three hours before we arrive our destination. So what should we do while we get there ?” Luz asked as she drove.
“I got the perfect idea,” Amity plugged in her phone.
Soon, a familiar audio book started.
“You downloaded the Good Witch Azura audio books !”
“Yep. I thought it would be fun, and a great way to start this trip.”
“Ah Amity. Have I mentioned how much I love you ?”
“Probably as much as I’ve told you that I love you. But I don’t care if you tell me again, Batata.”
With that, both Luz and Amity got confortable, ready for the road trip that laid ahead of them.
Little did they know at the time, all the adventures and hijinks that awaited for them.
