“Over the net next time, Katie,” Logan’s voice echoed throughout the gymnasium, “Rotate,”
He stood on the sideline of the court, his eyes roaming back and forth as the volleyball flew from arm to arm around the room.
Laura had woken him up that morning. She came home to collect her stuff for school after spending the night at her friend's house— per Logan’s insistence —and found him asleep on the couch an hour past his usual wake up time.
Once conscious, he felt delirious, after the prior night’s visit he had been hesitant to come into work at all. Wade had seen a part of Logan that he doesn’t share with anyone, not even Laura. The vulnerability of it stressed him out.
“Good serve, James,” He called out again. Trying to keep his focus on the game and not on last night.
That focus wobbled as he watched past the court to see the doors of the gym opening to reveal Wade stepping inside. He looked around the room until his eyes fell on Logan and he waved dramatically, high and obnoxious. The older man rolled his eyes and set foot on the court’s edges to walk over.
“Logan!” Wade greeted with a big smile. The man in question hummed in response, “Is right now a good time?” He had his typical abnormally cheery attitude.
Logan turned his head back to the court to check on the game and see whether it was running smoothly or falling apart. He looked back to Wade, “What d’you need, Bub?”
Wade’s smile brightened, “Well,” he prolonged the word, “I came to tell you that tonight’s practice isn’t actually a practice,”
Logan tilted his head and cocked a brow.
“Once during every production, I like to take the cast out to actually engage and have fun with each other offstage,” He spoke about it like an excited child. Logan let a tiny, fond smile crawl onto his lips as Wade continued, “I was gonna give you the heads up yesterday but somebody was too busy wallowing to show up to work,”
Logan rolled his eyes again, “Get to the point, Wade,”
“Are you gonna be up to going?” Wade’s childish behavior subsided, he had the same blended expression of care and concern that Logan saw him with last night, “I totally get it if you don’t feel like going. I can handle the kids alone, and, well, I’ll have my personal bitchy mini-Logan there if I need her to help out with everyone so don’t feel like you have to go if you don’t w-“
“Jesus, Wade, shut up, I’ll go,” Logan cut him off.
Wade grinned toothy and wide, “You will, oh, thank God, I was definitely bullshitting just now,”
“I could tell,” Deadpanned Logan.
Wade stuck his tongue out at him, before talking “We are going to an escape room,” he sounded ecstatic.
“An escape room?” Logan’s brow lifted up again.
“Yeah, like, mystery solving puzzle rooms, like ‘find this old man’s dying wish and get a code out’ typa deal,”
“I know what it is, Wade, but would the school even allow you to take the students? How far is it?”
“Um.. it’s like?” Wade paused for a second, irritating Logan, “It’s like half an hour away, we’ll be fine. The school doesn’t care that much anyways, they hardly consider the drama department a real thing,”
Logan scoffed, “Assholes,”
“Precisely, Pumpkin,” He smirked at the growl his pet name received, “So the plan is to meet in the auditorium at normal practice time, and then we will load the kids up and haul ass over there before our five o’clock rooms,”
“What kind of… drive is it?” Logan really tried not to show his concern, but Wade’s face softened regardless.
“It’s a one-way stretch before you hit the downtown area with the rooms,” He gave Logan that pitying look again, “I can drive if you aren’t feeling like you-“ He stopped talking when Logan’s fist gripped his shirt collar.
“Quit tiptoeing around me, asshole, I don’t need that, I’m not a child” He let go of the fabric that his fingers were twisted around; Wade looked dazed.
“Sorry,” He held his hand up by his sides in defense, “But, is that a yes or-”
“You will drive, and you will say nothing to any student, or anyone, about why. Blame it on gas or on me having to keep you in line,” Logan left no room for comment, Wade simply nodded, “Good,”
“Keep using that tone and you might get a different kind of ride in my car,” Wade smiled, annoyingly gorgeous.
Logan growled, “I have to get back to my class,”
“I didn’t hear any decline to that offer,”
“Keep your pants on and leave, Wade,”
“What about your pants? Hm, Kitty?” Wade took a playful step forward.
Logan stomped forward onto the younger man’s foot, “All clothes stay on,” He pulled his foot back, “Now, get the hell outta my gym, Bub,”
“Fine, fine,” Wade pouted, “You’re no fun,”
Logan rolled his eyes and turned away from him. Walking back to his previous position, he watched the student’s game carefully. Ignoring Wade lingering by the doors.
“Katie, you need to squat more, get under the ball,” He watched as she tried again to pass the ball, sending it into the wall instead of over the net. She frowned, frustrated with herself.
Sighing he walked over towards her, “Josh, pass the ball over here,” He caught it as he arrived beside her, “Squat, please— Good, alright, look, you need to curve your wrists more— No— Not like that—“ He glanced back to the gym doors, Wade was still standing there leaning against the bleachers. Logan was going to hear so many shitty innuendos later.
He looked back to Katie, “Stand up, I’m gonna show you what I’m talking about. Hold the ball and pass it to me when I say so, watch my wrists and my feet,” He took one step away from her and got himself into position.
He lowered himself down, squatting tight and steady. Pushing his arms in front of himself stretching his back out. His fists and wrists pushed together, and his forearms faced upwards, “See how I’m holding myself? Tight and firm, don’t leave anything loose. The force of the ball can knock you off balance that way,” He planted his feet, “Pass it now,”
The ball came towards him lightly, she hadn’t put much force into her toss. He stretched his body forward and dipped his wrist down and under the ball’s curve. When it bounced off his wrists it flew up into a near-perfect pass for the setter. He smiled to himself proudly.
Logan stood back up and turned to Katie, “Show me the position I just held,” He watched as she put herself down into a squat, her arms out.
He nodded, “Forearms up, you want to see the inside of your elbow,” She adjusted.
“Okay, Darla, pass her the ball, and Katie, get it to your setter,” He stepped back to see how she did.
Katie was on the school’s volleyball team, granted she wasn’t a varsity player, but he did expect her to have a better grip on the positioning of a player.
When the ball came at her she brought her wrist back and forward, causing the ball to go off course again. Logan sighed and stepped back onto court.
“Tell me what you did wrong,” He stood in front of her as she brought herself back up. She glared at him and didn’t reply, “Okay, fine, I will tell you what you did wrong,” He brought his arms in front of himself and brought his wrists into passing position, “You brought your arms in towards your chest instead of out towards the ball, that made you lose the steadiness of your stance,”
“Yeah, but the ball was coming in a lot harder than it did during your demonstration,” She complained.
Logan tried not to get frustrated, “The speed of the ball has little impact if you hold your position,”
“Easy for you to say when your not doing it,”
“Get off the court, watch me one more time, I will show you that it shouldn’t matter,” He watched her step off court and cross her arms over her chest.
He stretched his legs a little and looked at the rest of the students on court, “Who had the next serve?”
The ball got thrown to the girl in the corner across from him on the other team. As she set herself up for a serve, he bent his knees to prepare for the possibility of a pass. He really needed to stop getting stubborn with students, he was too old for this shit.
Just before the ball went into the air, Logan could see in his peripheral as Wade sat down on the front row of the bleachers. He shook his head to rid himself of the distraction, trying not to feel the hint of excitement in his chest from knowing that asshole was watching. It didn’t matter that Wade was in there. It didn’t matter that Wade was watching him. Wade made no difference on how he was going to play. Except Wade definitely impacted his mannerisms, and that small part of him wanted to impress Wade. Deep down, he wanted that praise from Wade.
The ball was served straight into his corner, just a little out of his reach. With no second thought for his knees or age he brought himself out of a squat and slid to his knees. Stopping just before the ball, sending it up into the air. Immediately he glanced towards Wade to gauge a reaction. He huffed at himself for being so greedy. He did not need to be acting like this, especially when the person he wanted attention from was Wade fucking Wilson.
The ball reached the setter and was hit over the net. He smiled ambitiously and got back to his feet as quickly as his body would allow. Watching as the ball bounced around the opposite side of the net.
The ball shot back over and bounced off his side’s middle back’s shoulder. Thinking fast he got into the ball’s path and stood into a setter’s position. He pushed the ball up into a set and watched as the right side hitter smacked it past a blocker onto the gym floor. His side yelled excitedly and he caught himself glancing towards Wade once again.
The man sat on the bleachers clapping with an unreadable expression, and Logan felt a bristle of pride in his chest. That pride might also be characterized as butterflies to any average person.
Logan stood straight and turned towards Katie, “I’m in my forties, if I can do that, you should be able to as well,” He stepped off the court as she grumbled something about him being a dick. He didn’t mind.
The kids continued their game as Logan put himself back into a coaching position. He watched Wade stand from his seat on the bleachers.
The two men shared eye contact with each other across the room. Logan couldn’t read Wade’s expression, but he knew that he hadn’t seen something like that since his rebound fling with the school janitor. The look was nearly predatory, an expression of want.
Logan shot him a little wave, expecting one in return. Wade simply smirked before turning around and walking out of the gymnasium.
—
“All my seniors go stand in a line over there, pretty please,” Wade made a shooing motion with his hands as his five upperclassmen lined up, “Kay, great,” He stepped up to them, allowing the younger students to mingle on their own.
“Wade, what are we doing, shouldn’t we be leaving,” Laura sassed at him.
“Love the encouragement, Laur, and yeah we should be, but during my very busy schedule, I forgot to plan a car system, so, that leads me to ask— are you all comfy with driving?”
The five of them shared a few glances at each other, “I don’t have a license, Mr. Wilson,” Ben shyly told him.
“Wuh- Ben your like-“ Wade sighed and cleared his throat, “That’s fine, go over there now, Ben, yes-yes,” Wade watched him join the lower grades before turning back to the other four seniors, “You. all are fine, though, right? I’m desperate, I already paid for the rooms,”
Laura rolled her eyes “You are an idiot, Mr. Wilson,”
“Golly, do you know how to lift my spirits, you're almost as kind as your dad, you know that,” He huffed, “Okay, you guys figure out who you want to drive, and have one of you text me the list. I will announce it after that and then we will get the hell outta here,”
“Aren’t you and Mr. Howlett going to drive anyone?” Sam asked.
“No, uh, I thought it’d be nicer for you guys to do it, cast bonding and all that blahblahblah,” Wade smiled convincingly.
Laura looked at him, scrutinizing. He stared back at her and nodded. It was a silent conversation, and she knew he was keeping Logan out of the cars with kids. Neither of them wanted him to be tense or scared.
“Logan and I will drive separately in my car, Laura will take their car,” He confirmed and she nodded in agreement.
Just as he turned away from the seniors to leave them to figure out his put-off shit, the auditorium door opened. Logan walked in, holding his phone up to his ear and his bag slipping off his shoulder.
Wade trotted up to him and took Logan’s bag. The other man gave no fuss and looked at him with a grateful expression.
“No, Sir, believe me, you do not want Scott and I working together on this,” Logan spoke into the phone, a little desperate. Wade listened closely, interest piqued.
“Yes, Sir, I understand that— Yes, I care about Matthew’s education— Yes, I understand as my player he is also my responsibility, but— Sir, please,” He pointed to the front pew for Wade to put his bag down, “Sir, Yes this is about— Yes, I know I shouldn’t let my personal affairs affect my work life, but—“ He pinched the bridge of his nose.
Wade guided him to a pew and made him sit down. He remained standing in front of him as Logan listened intently to the phone. He looked up at Wade, and the younger man had to consciously not lose his breath.
Logan had big brown doe eyes glancing up to him through pretty lashes. He mouthed something along the lines of thanks that Wade didn’t catch, nor was he going to catch. He wasn’t paying much attention to Logan’s other features; his focus was only on the man’s eyes.
Logan huffed, “Sir, please, I get that it may be unprofessional but— Sir— You are talking about my dead fiancé, Sir, you need to be more respectful—“ Wade raised his brows.
“No, Sir, I can promise you that nothing useful will be done if you set up a meeting between Scott and I… No— Sir—“ He leaned back into the pew and closed his eyes, Wade could see his patience quickly drifting away, “Sir, Scott and I have a history— Sir, do I have to spell it out to you—” He groaned, “No, Sir, I’m not trying to be disrespectful, I— I just—”
Wade sat down beside him, glancing over at the seniors still bickering in the corner. They all had about fifteen minutes to get grouped and packed into cars. Wade sighed, and snooped back into Logan’s phone call.
“Sir- Sir, please— Sir, Scott and I have a bigger history than just being coworkers— Sir— Sir, I can’t just waltz into his class and talk to him like that— He was— Sir, Scott was involved with Jean and I and I can’t—“ Logan sighed, “Yes… Yes, Sir, that is what I’m implying… I would rather not go further into that… I— Sir, I am next to Mr. Wilson, and I would rather not talk about my sex life with either of you,”
Wade snickered under his breath earning a glare from Logan.
“No, Sir— Sir, I just told you why— Sir, we aren’t on talking terms and I don’t— Sir, for the love of—” Logan growled, clenching his teeth, “Yes, Sir… Yes, Sir, I am free, mhm, but, Sir— Yes… Alright, goodbye, Sir,” He set his phone down and leaned forward putting his head in his hands.
Wade sat up with him and placed a comforting hand on his back, “Wanna tell me what that was about, Hotshot,”
“Piss off,” There was no bite to Logan’s words, “I have a meeting with Scott on Monday,” He peeked past his hands towards Wade.
“Make sure, if you guys have hate sex, you use protection,” Wade smiled.
Logan shouldered him away, “Fuck you,” He stood up, “I won’t make practice, the meeting starts at the same time,”
Wade nodded, turning his head towards the students, “Do you want me to drop by your office with some condoms beforehand— Ow—” Wade winced when Logan hit him, he bounced to his left, “I also have flavored lube if you— Ow— If you need it— Ow, fuck,” Wade laughed as Logan swatted at him.
“Shut the fuck up, Wade,” Logan huffed at him. Wade stuck his tongue out in response.
They both watched as Laura herded the students into packs, apparently Wade was taking too long to get back to them. Once everyone was situated, she turned around and waved him over.
He started towards her with Logan trailing behind. It took all of Wade’s self control to not make some remark about how Logan was like a lost dog. All he ever did in this auditorium was follow Wade around, clueless. It was cute.
“I got everyone settled into their car groups while you two were cat fighting,” Laura announced when the two men stopped beside her. Logan grunted at her as a reply.
“Great, I would’ve gotten over here sooner if somebody would have gotten off his phone. Your dad can be such a screenager ya’know and— Ow! Dammit, Logan, stop hitting me,” Wade pouted.
Logan smiled, small and proud. Laura rolled her eyes, “Get everyone to their cars, c’mon, we have five minutes,”
Wade’s eyes widened, “Shit,” He clapped his hands together, “Okay, alright, I hope everyone is thrilled with their car arrangements because they are not changing, cool, awesome,” He swiveled around and pointed at the auditorium exit, his arm stopping directly in front of Logan’s face, earning him one of those oh-so-beloved growls, “Everyone, get your asses out to your vehicles and drive— safely, of course —Logan and I will be right behind y’all, we just have to lock up,” He smiled and clapped his hands again.
All the students hovered around their assigned seniors as they shuffled out of the building. Logan stopped Laura for a quick, hushed conversation Wade couldn’t understand. He caught a few familiar words from his freshman Spanish class, but, honestly, his translations were useless.
Logan hugged her, kissing the top of her head, before waving her off. Once all the students were gone, he turned back to Wade, surprised to see the younger man watching him, “I was, um, just telling her to be safe,”
Wade nodded, “You don’t have to justify talking to your daughter, Log,” He grabbed his bag and shuffled through the front pocket before pulling out a key chain.
“Let’s go, Peanut,” Wade walked past him and smirked to himself when Logan grabbed his own things and shuffled up to follow.
When they got into the car Wade started it up. Pulling out, he hesitated before opening conversation, “So, you and Scott had a thing?”
Logan kept his eyes on the window, “Wade,” His name was a warning.
They stayed quiet until Logan sighed, “It wasn’t ever exclusively Scott and I, Jean and him were together before her and I, and— the situation is really messy, but with a lot of negotiations and talking shit out, he would…”
“Have sex with you two?”
Logan huffed at him, “Not only sex, Wade, Jesus,” He glanced over at the younger man, before quickly turning back to the window, “He stuck around for dinners and other shit too, but then he and Jean had a fight and they never… they never got to resolve it,” His voice got quieter as he spoke.
Wade nodded, but he stayed quiet for a few minutes. He was never the best at comforting, but he couldn’t let this hang in the open, “Logan, you know it’s not your fault, right?”
Logan stared down at the glove department, “To Scotty it is,”
Before Wade could open his mouth again, Logan turned the radio on. He twisted the volume up loud, leaving no room for discussion. Wade took the hint and simply continued the drive.
—-
Logan and Wade were the last car to pull into the Escape Room parking lot. Their solemn silence had abruptly ended when Wade decided to belt out along with the radio and piss Logan off. They ended up missing their exit.
When the two of them sped into the lobby, they saw Laura standing arms crossed and annoyed.
Wade, in his brilliance, leaned into Logan and mumbled, “She looks just like you,” in which he received a smack to the arm from the older man.
Laura’s brows furrowed, “Can you two quit acting like children for two seconds, I’m sick of doing your job, Wade, now go tell the girl at the desk we are the reserved group before she kicks us all out,” She hissed at them both.
Wade nodded, partially scared to talk back, before he trotted up to the frontman.
Laura turned to Logan, “I expected better from you, what the hell kept you guys so long,”
“Do not talk to me like that,” Logan attempted to scold, but she was not having it, “He missed our exit because he was too occupied singing,” Logan shot Wade a glare.
Laura snapped her fingers in front of his face, gaining his attention like a dog. It worked, “Look at me, not him,”
Logan huffed at her, “How long have you all been here?”
“Sam’s car arrived five minutes ago, they were gonna kick us out if you guys didn’t show up in the next ten,”
Logan practically put his tail between his legs, “We’re sorry, Laura,”
She rolled her eyes and walked back to her group.
It was a minute later that the front girl began to speak, “Alright, guys, I’m Cassie, I’m sorry about getting so heated with you guys, it’s kind of my job to make sure you aren’t ripping us off,” She smiled and glanced around the room, “I have you guys down for two rooms, do we have split groups? Or need a few minutes to pick those?”
Wade looked to Laura, “Did you guys decide that while Logan and I weren’t here, or do we need the time?”
“Mine and James’ groups are going into one room,”
Cassie nodded, “Alrighty, and are my two lovely chaperones participating?”
Wade nodded, “Logan will go with their group,”
“Great, you all follow me, Jenna here will direct the other group,”
Logan followed Cassie towards a large red door; Laura stood beside him and the rest of the kids behind her. It took a few minutes for Cassie to explain their fictional situation to them, and in those same minutes Logan realized he should have stayed home.
The group piled into the room and Cassie stepped out the door, “You will have one hour to complete your tasks and escape the room,” She smiled and slammed the door shut.
Laura immediately picked a sheet of paper up and began to read the contents. Logan tuned most of it out, on the way Wade had told him that the two of them were mostly there for supervision. The actual game itself was meant for the kids.
As they progressed, he assisted them a few times. Mostly he helped with difficult codes or hard to move items. One picture frame he moved had something behind it that jumped at him and the kids thoroughly enjoyed the slew of swearing he let out.
When his group finally finished— their time being 36:31 —Wade’s group was already in the foyer. Logan stepped up to him, and Wade giggled at his appearance.
“The hell did they do to you in there?” He quipped.
“Go fuck yourself,” Logan glared at him.
Everyone settled down, chitchatting or quietly sitting, tired. Laura and Sam were the first to properly break the wind down time’s quiet.
“Did we even take up an hour?” Sam asked aloud.
“Yeah, Mr. Wilson, didn’t you pay for two?” Laura looked towards him.
Wade frowned, “Yes, but that is my cross to bear, I guess. At least you guys had fun right?”
The kids let out yeses and a few nodded, which was sufficient enough to Wade for wasting his money.
“You paid enough for another thirty minute room,” Cassie interrupted, “You could have another group go?”
The students glanced around at each other. Sam whispered to Laura who smiled in response. Sam then looked at Wade, “What about you and Mr. Logan go into one together?”
Logan shook his head prepared to say no, but the enthusiasm of the students stopped him from speaking. He and Wade glanced at each other.
“We have a TV for occasions like this, your students could watch you two in the room?” Cassie pointed out, “It would be ready, quick and easy,”
Wade ignored any protests from Logan, “Let’s do it,” He smiled as the kids erupted in excitement. That was the point of this day. He could deal with whatever complaining Logan was gonna yell at him about.
Logan grumbled and hit Wade’s arm again.
“Did you forget how to use your words, Peanut?” Wade complained, protecting his arm with his hand, “Hey! Hitting is mean,”
Logan rolled his eyes and lightly pushed Wade towards Cassie as she led them away to their room. She gave them the necessary warnings and located each camera for them before leaving them behind the slammed door.
A crackle sounded through the room before a recorded voice came out. The voice told them about a doctor who had gone mad then disappeared. Now, they were stuck inside his home that he is said to haunt, their mission is to find the entrance to his shed and break loose from his home.
Logan looked around the room while Wade stood dumbfounded. The older man rolled his eyes before stepping over to a desk topped with loose papers and torn up books. Rummaging through it he found a picture of a toolbox.
“Wade, quit looking lost and get your ass over to help me,” He lifted the picture and began looking around the room for the box.
“Rude,” Wade muttered before stepping behind him, looking over his shoulder at the picture. Logan twisted his head back to look at Wade leaving their faces inches apart. The younger man did not miss the way those brown eyes flickered at his lips. A sense of pride filled him as he stepped back.
“Wouldn’t a tool box be kept in the shed?”
“Yes, but we can’t get into the shed,” Logan said it like Wade was stupid.
“Play nice, now, Kitty, no need to ruffle your fur,” He looked around while Logan glared at him, “Hm, it could be our goal item, like we have to crack X amount of codes until we can even access the box?”
Logan nodded, still irritated, “Okay, then help me find our first clue,” He went back to rummaging through the desk.
Wade spun around and looked at the wall decor. Pictures hung of who he assumed was the doctor, some looked average, others looked down right scary. He spotted a broken clock.
“Log, here, clock reads 12:37, it could be a code for something,” He kept his eyes on it.
Logan made a noise between a huff and a joyful exclamation, “One of these desk drawers has a four digit code, c’mere and punch that in,”
The two of them got the drawer to shoot open, it revealed a paper covered in blood with some transcript on it, and a dismembered plastic finger. Logan immediately reached for a book laying on the desk and shoved it into Wade’s chest.
“Flip through this and see if you can find any kind of code language,” He left Wade to his business while he searched back around the room.
Wade flipped through each page carefully, the same lettering was found on a few of the pages.
Logan snooped around the door that was supposed to lead ‘outside’. He inspected it closer, seeing if there were any strings or gadgets attached. The last thing he wanted was for something to jump out at him again.
Wade walked up behind Logan and tapped his shoulder making the older man yelp, then growl, as he turned around.
Wade smirked a bit, keeping in a laugh, “I found the code’s translation, the hell are you doing staring at the door,”
“Nothing, just— did you figure out what the paper said?”
Wade nodded, “Something about the finger being a key for a door? like an ID thing, but this door isn’t locked like that so I think it’s for the shed,”
Logan smiled, “Thank God this room is quick,” He took the dismembered finger out of Wade’s hand and pocketed it before turning to the door. He sucked a breath in and opened it up.
There was two seconds of peace until a crack of thunder roared throughout the room and Logan jumped back. He grabbed Wade’s hand and stepped in closer to him.
The younger man laughed and squeezed their hands together, “For being brooding and mean, you scare real easy, Peanut,”
Logan shook their hands a part and huffed, he looked at the exit that led to a faux grass filled room and hesitated. Wade stepped past him easily and walking in. Logan followed quickly after him, attempting to act nonchalant.
They opened the door to the shed and watched as a head rolled towards them. Wade kicked it out of the way— earning a small laugh out of Logan —and picked up the toolbox from the photo.
“Ta-da, I told you it would be in here- AH,” Wade dropped the box as a fake arm reached up and hit his back. He flung away from it and knocked into Logan.
“Watch yourself, asshat,” The older man shoved him off.
Wade put a hand to his chest in offense before lifting the tool box back up. They spent far too long rummaging through the box and much too little time paying attention to anything else.
Wade lifted his eyes from the box, he watched Logan’s intense stare and smiled fondly. The older man pulled out a key and looked up at Wade excited. Wade had yet to see him like this, he never wanted that expression to go away.
“Key. I found a key,” Logan sounded just as accomplished as he looked, “Do you think it’s gonna get us outta here?”
“That would be far too easy, Angel Baby, but I love the enthusiasm,”
Logan frowned and shut the toolbox, “Then we are wasting time, let’s see what this goes to.”
The two of them trailed out of the ‘yard’ and back into the office. Logan began shoving his key into every hole he could find, and Wade had to muster every ounce of self will he could to not make at least six jokes about it. Damn kids were watching.
Logan smiled and waved his hand at Wade when his key finally unlocked a box that sat upon the messy desk. He was just about to tell the younger man to get over there when a loud bang rang around the room.
Logan jumped back from the box and leaned into Wade, “The fuck was that,” He gasped out, another bang rang.
Wade glanced around and saw that the clock changed times from 12:37 to 6:10. He pointed to it for Logan to see, the older man huffed at the clock before stepping over and taking it down.
Wade walked up and looked over his shoulder again as Logan inspected the machine. He stuck his tongue out of his lips in concentration.
Wade stepped back and looked up at a portrait of the doctor, he followed the painting’s eyes to a corner to a crooked frame. He walked over to it and removed the picture from the wall. Revealing a vault with a three digit code.
Giddily he punched in the new time and smiled when the door unlocked. He reached inside to find a dismembered hand.
Logan was still occupied with the doctor’s clock and journal when Wade took the hand to the last door, he shoved it up against the scanner and watched it flash green before the door unlocked.
Logan looked over just as Wade shoved open the door to a hallway leading back to the foyer.
“Guess I’m the brains to your brawn,” He smirked over to the older man.
Logan grimaced and shoved past Wade into the hallway.
When they returned into the lobby the students cheered. Wade bowed, “Yes, yes, I did indeed open the room all by myself,”
“Piss off, you couldn’t have even started without me,” Logan complained.
“You’re just mad you can’t call me a dumbass anymore,”
“Oh, yes I can,” Logan glared at him.
Cassie interrupted by stepping up to her front stand, “Apologies, boys, but the bickering has to end. We have another team coming in soon so we have to get you out,” She smiled.
It took a few minutes for them to pile into a group photo and trickle out of the building. Logan, Laura, and Wade stood on the sidewalk waving everyone off as they drove away or got picked up by a parent.
Once it dwindled down to just the three of them Laura nodded a goodbye to Wade before mumbling to Logan, “Estaré en el coche, no coquetees por mucho tiempo,”
Logan glared at her for a moment before she walked away. He looked at Wade who was smiling at him, “I love when you two talk in Spanish,”
“She does too, cause I can’t understand half the shit she says,”
Wade laughed, “Thank you for agreeing to this, Peanut,”
Logan looked at him, brows raised. Wade sighed, “Don’t fucking hit me, but I didn’t think you would show up for this after yesterday, and now the meeting with Scott, I know your dealing with a lot and you really don’t need this whole codirecting shit on your plate and I’m just, I dunno, grateful your sticking around,”
“You done?” Logan asked, Wade nodded with a frown, “Kay, ‘cause you have this tendency of running your mouth when you're nervous, it’s annoying,” He sighed, “Look, Wade, I…”
He looked down, trying to find what he wanted to say, “I don’t hate this as much as I thought I would,”
“Wow, thanks,”
“Shut up, and let me finish.” He looked back up to the younger man, “It’s been fun, I haven’t messed around a stage in a long time and I… I guess I missed it. Just, don’t let what I’m saying get to your head, mkay?”
Wade nodded, a soft smile on his lips. They both moved towards the beaten up red van parked in the corner of the lot. Logan made the excuse to himself that he was going so he could grab his work bag, but he would’ve walked Wade over regardless.
Logan took his things out of the passenger seat and rounded the car to stand beside Wade as he climbed into the driver’s seat.
“Drive safely, Wade,” Logan looked into his eyes.
“‘Course I will, Peanut,”
Logan nodded, “And…” He smiled a small bit, “If you wanted to stop into my office Monday, before my meeting, I wouldn’t mind,”
Wade lit up, but stayed poorly subtle, “I’ll definitely be there,”
“So help me if you bring any fucking vanilla lube or some shit into my office I will kick your ass,” Logan warned.
“So violent, is that how you used to get Scott into bed with you? ‘Cause it is definitely working on me, I have that lube right here in my center console, Kitty, I can take you right here, right- Hey!” The car door slammed in his face as Logan flipped him off.
“Goodbye, Bub,” He called out as he walked across the lot to his and Laura’s car.
He slid himself into the driver's seat and just as he buckled his belt Laura looked at him.
“Why do you let him call you Kitty?” She asked, deadpanned face.
Logan turned the car on and switched the radio up loud enough Wade could hear it. He pulled out of the parking lot as quickly as he could.
