Party and Presents
Chapter 6: Party and Presents:
Loki was up early the next morning as was his wont and as such had made breakfast for both of his men. The smell of bacon frying and waffles in the waffle maker was enough to lure first Mobius and then Kevin down the stairs.
Kevin was rubbing at his eyes still half asleep and Mobius was in the middle of a yawn as he headed to the coffee maker. Loki placed a kiss on his cheek as he handed him one of his favorite mugs. "Did Sean say what time he was going to be home?"
Mobius had to take a minute to think about that before he nodded as he took a sip of his precious coffee. "Yeah...two? I think. He said they were going to be out late so he would probably be sleeping in so it could be a little later."
Loki nodded as he fixed himself a cup of tea and then brought over three plates to the table. Along with silverware. He went back for his cup of tea before he seated himself at the table as well.
Once breakfast had been eaten and everyone was a little more awake the decorating began. Kevin and him got into a rather silly battle of who could say the funniest thing while they ingested little bits of the helium that was supposed to be used for blowing up the balloons. Mobius had tears of mirth in his eyes as Loki mocked X-5 in his squeaky voice. The inside joke was lost on Kevin, but he was still laughing anyway.
Once balloons had been filled and streamers hung around the living room along with a banner that said congratulations Mobius set to work at the grill and Loki got to appreciate watching him work here and there.
Kevin bounced back and forth between helping Mobius outside at the grill (which admittedly there wasn't much to help with) and helping Loki in the kitchen baking a couple of Sean's favorite treats. These included his cinnamon rolls, chocolate chip cookies and a batch of peanut butter chocolate fudge that was normally only made at Christmas time.

"I'm home!" Sean called as he stepped through the door and toed off his shoes by the door and set his bag down on the bottom of the stairs for now.
"We're in here." Mobius called back from the kitchen.
Sean followed his nose to the kitchen. "It smells so good in here." He said before his eyes lit up as he saw burger patties covered in melted cheese, hotdogs, chicken and baked potatos with all the fixings on one counter and then on the other counter all the sweets. "Woow.."
Mobius smiled as he ruffled his hair. "We wanted to have a special dinner for you champ. A little family celebration for the four of us. After we eat there's presents to."
Sean threw his arms around Mobius and then ran to Loki and hugged him as well. "Thank you."
After that plates were fixed and the table was gathered around and while they ate Sean jabbered away about the party and the arcade and the awesome time he had with his friends. Kevin interjecting with his own commentary and asking questions here and there. Loki smiled at Mobius as they more so just listened. Content as long as the boys were happy.
There was definitely no mistaking that the boys had inherited their fathers love and appetite for good food. All three of them ate a good portion of the food and there wasn't a whole lot to put away, but no one was complaining because it made clean up so much easier.
Once things had been tidied up, dishes done, counters wiped down, table reset for later use they all gathered in the living room. Loki curled into Mobius's side with a glass of wine in his hand. Sean was on the other couch with Kevin sat next to him ready to fill his role of present handler.
"This one's from dad." Kevin said as he handed over a smaller box wrapped in silver wrapping paper. Sean gave it a couple curious little shakes, trying to judge what it might be before he finally opened it. "A taser dad?"
Mobius shrugged. "Figured it wouldn't hurt to have it on you just in case. I know Loki's taught you how to fight and defend yourselves pretty well, but hey. Every tool in the shed helps."
Loki nodded in agreement. "Indeed. There will always be someone bigger and stronger than you. The element of surprise is a very good thing to have."
"That's fair." Sean said as he read over some of the features and other things on the back of the box before he set it aside. "Thanks dad." He said before he looked to Kevin.
Kevin picked through the pile for a moment before he handed one wrapped in green with a gold ribbon. "This is from Loki."
Sean once again took it. Trying to figure out what might be inside the box. He took a good long look at the shape of it before his eyes went wide. "No way." He tore open the wrapping paper and stared
down at the brand new drawing tablet that hit the market six months ago from Stark Industries. "Oh my God."
Loki chuckled a little. "Yes little mortal I'm here." He said before he smiled softer this time. "I saw you looking at it at the store a little while ago. You said you wanted to start trying your hand at digital art and I figured if you're going to give it a shot may as well be on the best the market has to offer." He may have his reservations about the hero, but he did know tech.
"Yeah no...this is amazing." He said as he looked down at it again for another moment before he set it aside. "Thank you so much."
Loki nodded as he took a sip of his wine and Kevin handed over the next present. "This one's also from dad. It's an envelope." Kevin said curiously before he handed it to Sean.
Sean took it just as curiously and opened it and looked over the certificate and the paperwork in regards to a warranty of some sort and then at the pictures of a beautiful and absolutely comfortable looking brown couch from La-z-boy. Apparently. "Wow that looks so comfy...look at this Kevin." He said as he passed some of the pictures over to him.
"Loki said he was going to get you an apartment and the cornerstone of any cozy home is comfy furniture. They're holding it for now until we find what apartment you're going to be in. Once we have an address for them, they'll deliver it for you." Mobius said.
"That does look comfy. I bet it's soft to." Kevin said as he handed the pictures back to Sean and he set them aside.
Kevin reached for the last envelope on the stack. "This one is from me and Loki. I picked it out, but we paid for it together."
Loki laughed a little at that and nodded. "That we did."
Sean pulled open the envelope to find more proof of ownership paperwork and warranty paperwork and more pictures, but this time of a beautiful oak deask with lots of drawers and little compartments and lots of storage space on top. As he looked closer a part of the table could also be converted into a light table for tracing and his eyes widened a little. "No way. This is gonna make animating and making panels so much easier!" He cheered as he looked through the pictures again.
"I thought as much. I've seen some of the comics you like to draw." Loki said with a small laugh. "Same thing as the couch, once we have an address to send it to they'll make sure it gets delivered to you. Also next week once we see Kevin off to summer camp your father has arranged for some vacation time, we're going to go with you to New York and we're going to be there for about three weeks to find an apartment for you and help you settle in. Alright?"
Sean nodded enthusiastically. "That's amazing! Thank you so much! All of you!" He said as he first hugged Kevin and then ran over and hugged both Loki and Mobius before he looked back to Kevin. "I got something for you two Kev. I won you a prize at the arcade last night. Help me bring this stuff up to my room?"
Kevin bounced up and collected all, but the drawing tablet which was hugged closely to Sean's chest as both boys made their way upstairs. Loki chuckled a little as took another sip of his wine and looked up to Mobius. "I'm scared. Please tell me everything will be okay."
Mobius leaned down and pressed an assuring kiss to Loki's lips. "Everything will be fine sweetheart. You have those fancy suppression cuffs you made for yourself, you're going to match your image to the name on the ID that we set you up with. There's no reason for anyone to be suspicious about Lyle Mobius. And if we absolutely need it you know I still have a tempad."
Loki took a small shuddering breath as he let Mobius's voice calm him. It was true. The most they might do if he had used a little Seidr was say he was a mutant, but there would be no reason to use any magic at all whatsoever. Things would be fine.
