Kitchen and Crushes

Harry's POV

My friends were upset I was going to be cleaning the kitchen instead of hanging out with them but luckily since we just came, the camp cup competitions hadn't started yet.

It would be starting in a week's time.

I went into the kitchen and saw Draco looking irritated at everything.

"Hey Draco, you're here early. So would you do the dishes, or the floor."

"How can we do the dishes? We have no dishwasher." He said and I grinned at the spoilt brat.

Of course he didn't know how to do the dishes.

Well to be fair, neither did I until I came to camp. I only used to load up the dishwasher.

"Well, that is a sponge and over there is soap. You can wash the dishes with that."

He looked absolutely horrified. "What? That's going to take all day. I can't do that. I've never done that before."

"Okay then. Handle the floor."

"But there is no vacuum cleaner?"

He looked so perplexed that I started laughing.

"You're such a princess. You've never seen a broom before?" I teased.

"Stop laughing." The scrunched up nose showed his annoyance so I tapered down my laughter.

"Okay, we'll do it together. I'll wash and rinse, you'll dry and keep." I took a rag and handed it over to him and carried the large basin that the dishes stayed in. I rinsed it off and kept it in its place.

"Wipe the plate dry with the rag and then drop it there. Okay?" I asked and he nodded, looking so innocently confused and I smiled at him.

"Hey don't worry. If you mess up I'll help you."  He nodded but the tension in his muscles didn't lighten up.

I washed and rinsed and handed him the plate.

He gripped it tightly, drying it with so much concentration and precision that I couldn't help but smile.

"You know you're not getting an award for the best dish dryer or anything right?" I teased and he frowned at me.

"Anything worth doing should be done properly Potter."

"Harry."

"You teased me so for now you're Potter. When I forgive you, you'll be Harry again." He said with such a snobbish voice that it was easy for me to forget the slight hurt hearing Potter from him caused.

Which was really weird because it's my surname.

I would definitely try and unpack that later.

We finished doing the dishes while chatting about really menial things.

Basically it was Draco doing all the talking, I was just listening and answering his million and one questions.

I noticed a lot of things about him.

Firstly he forgot many common words in English and it was funny in a really cute way when he was trying to explain them.

Like he was telling me about one time he and Blaise set their kitchen on fire while trying to make popcorn and he forgot how to say microwave in English.

"The hot box." He explained and I raised an eyebrow.

"Hot box?"

"No, that's not the name. The electric box that makes food not raw anymore."

"You mean a microwave?"

"Ouii. The microwave and then_"

I smiled and continued listening to him.

Which made me notice the next thing about him.

He returns back to French when highly emotional. Like excited, and happy. And annoyed.

"Oh mon Dieu! Tu es vraiment stupide pour quelqu'un d'aussi mignon!"

What he said when I accidentally spilled flour on the floor we had just finished sweeping.

All in all it was a rather fun and enlightening time.

I was glad we were becoming friends.

"Hey Draco?"

"Yes Harry?" He said, wiping the counter absent mindedly.

I couldn't stop smiling. He had finally forgiven me for the teasing.

"Why did you come to camp this time and not any other time?"

He paused and looked at me, his silver eyes seemed to be judging me.

Assessing if I was worthy to speak to him at the moment.

"You don't have to tell me if you don't want to. I'm just curious. Since from all you've said you have known Pansy, Blaise and Theo for a very long time. So why didn't you come with them?"

He sighed and bit his lip. "I'll tell you on one condition. Promise me you won't start being all guilty."

I nodded.

"The first time I was old enough to come, I fell sick with Pneumonia. So they left me. But when they came back, they mentioned that you guys were in the camp. And honestly speaking I was nervous about meeting you all again. I mean we had a bad first meeting. So I avoided the summer camps by making sure I auditioned for movie shootings during my summer."

I didn't expect this to be the answer and I was swamped with guilt.

However I had promised that I wouldn't be guilty so I couldn't show it.

I didn't know what to say. So I froze and there was an awkward silence.

Draco hung the rag on the door and turned to me.

"It was nice doing punishment with you. Please let's not make it a habit." He turned and left without a backwards glance and I sighed.

This summer was already being so stressful.

* * * * * * * * * * *
"Do you think you have a shot? He'll never go for someone like you. I mean sure Smith was being an asshole but you're a wimp." Astrid snapped.

Hermione and Ron had gone of on their little dates. Luna was helping the counselors with the smaller kids.

Neville was in the greenhouse taking care of plants. He spent most of his times there when we came to camp.

I was the only one stuck with the twins.

"I'm not a wimp." Aquila defended himself softly, huddling into his blanket.

"You've been crushing on him for seven years. Yet how many things have you said to him?" Astrid mocked, grinning evilly.

"Ten things." Aquila said, covering his face with the blanket.

"Yeah, you were eleven when you fell for him yet all you do is watch him like a creep.  He can never go for someone like you." Astrid said offhandedly and I winced when I saw Aquila remove himself from his blanket.

"Well I still have a shot. Guess who ruined hers for life because she thinks with her trauma and not her brain." Aquila snapped and I groaned. Great the twins were about to fight in front of me.

The twins were adopted when they were eight years old and they had spent the first years of their life in a terrible adoption home before they ended up in their permanent adoption ones.

They were treated so badly that they didn't even have names. They used their case file numbers to identify the children in the care.

They weren't fed, were used as child labour in making toys and were beaten up when they messed up. They were abused emotionally and even sexually.

It affected them in different ways.

Astrid was a lively child so she got the worse of the abuse physically and that made her want to lash out at people.

Aquila was a calmer and pretty child so unfortunately he was among those given to predators.

They both didn't warm up to anyone easily but while Astrid was brutal to people, Aquila was just cold.

They rarely fought but when they did it was brutal.

"I didn't ruin my shot. I don't care about the Bratz doll."

Ahh, Pansy then.

"Sure. Like you don't spend all your wifi on her YouTube channel. Stop the stupid self sabotage nonsense and apologize for what you did and you'll both be happy again."

"She's a drama queen. I wasn't the only one that messed up. She messed up first."

"Yeah but you messed up worse." Aquila argued.

"I'll apologize to Pansy when you have a full conversation with Blaise without acting like the ground is about to swallow you whole. You're already not his type."

"I wasn't the one who was told and I quote "hell doesn't deserve a person like you. I wouldn't wish knowing you on the devil." By my crush. You have nothing to say."

I paused..

When did all these happen?

"Wait guys. What's going on?"
